  2. Afternoon all! I just had my one year post-op check up yesterday, though my surgiversary is not for another week (expect a post then too!) and my blood test results are already in (I love my bariatric center!). Recently there has been a lot of discussion and confusion about Multivitamin Patches and some of you may have seen in previous posts that I am a proponent of the multivitamin patch for people who have trouble swallowing pills as I do. I promised I would update about my blood test results when I found out, so here they are! Everything is completely normal except my folate, which is high, which will probably mean I need to reduce my Iron supplements. I'm goi…

  3. I was banded almost 5 years ago and have managed to gain just about all the weight I lost (which quite honestly I don't think the band helped me lose all that much). I still have port discomfort after 5 years and I hate that sometimes I can get stuck on one bite and sometimes hardly feel restriction. I've found a way around the band by eating slow or waiting till the food goes down and continuing to eat. I hate the feeling of the discomfort in my chest and I hate that healthy things like chicken and raw veggies are close to impossible to eat with a band. I feel like I would be better off without the band and no further surgery. I could eat healthier but I want to…

  4. Hi everyone! I had lap band November 2011. This worked well for a while. I lost about 80 pounds, until I had complication Nov 2014. I had problems with vomiting everything I would eat, so my previous surgeon ordered an upper GI and esophageal manometry. Both of those tests confirmed I had a prolapse. Long story short, my insurance company made me switch to a different surgeon. I had my band and port removed 8/10/15. My new surgeon said that my band had also slipped and was sitting sideways which was causing me to have the vomiting. He also did an intra-op EGD to look at my esophagus to see if there was any damage from 9 months of vomiting. He said it didn't look too bad…

Hello, I have my appointment with my surgeon tomorrow and will be scheduling surgery most likely for sometime in October. My question is how did you feel at say 4-5 weeks out or 5-8 weeks out? I own my own business and I have a long weekend of trade shows scheduled for the first weekend in December. I will most likely be on my feet from 9am-7pm for a couple days and staying at a hotel for the weekend. I know it will vary person to person but I'm just trying to figure out if this sounds like something that is feasible at around 5-8 weeks out? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  10. A group from Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence found no difference in the muscle growth response to protein after a full-body resistance training workout between more muscular and smaller participants. Except when it came to specific exercises. The study split young, resistance-trained males into two groups; those with lower lean body mass (<less than 65 kilograms) and higher lean body mass, 70 kilograms and higher. Each volunteer participated in two trials where they consumed protein after resistance exercise. In one trial participants consumed 20 grams of whey protein and in the second, they consumed 40 grams of whey protein after exercise. Scientists…

What does that mean? I was sent to the lab for blood work. Im still waiting to hear from them. On the bright side, NO MORE INSULIN FOR ME, YEAH. 15. According to a major new study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, researchers have linked public transport usage with key health outcomes. Specifically, investigators examined the relationship between body fat percentage and BMI values as they relate to individuals who: (1) Just use public transportation; (2) Actively commute by walking or cycling; (3) Use a mixed-approach, combining public transport and an active mode; (4). Commute exclusively by car. The trend was assessed in over 150,000 British residents between the ages of 40 and 69 years old, making it the largest study to date on this topic. So I had my surgery almost two years ago. For the last month I have felt terribly nauseous and not have come to the point where I can no longer eat. It feels like as soon as a swallow and it hits my stomach I need to throw up or will sit there endlessly dry heaving. I habe an upper gi and lower GI where they thought I had an intestinal fistula. I had a barium enema which didn't show that. No I'm scheduled for an endoscopy.it has ruined my life...some days I can't get out of bed. Anyone else ever experience this?

BUT...I can EAT anything. The only reason I know this is because we've been on vacation for 2 weeks. I drink tons of Protein drinks still, but because I'm so limited on food options, I just "try" a little bit of whatever. So far I've never dumped. Ever. And I even tried a tiny bit of a lemon bar last night at our hotel. I was amazed I could tolerate the little bit of sugar. But now I'm freaked. I don't want to tolerate sugar. Is something wrong with me? I even tried a chicken strip and had like 2 French…

Okay - here's the back story: I've gone through my 6 month approval process, jumped through all hoops, and finally got my surgery date (yay!), but over the past 6 months I've developed a general "bad feeling" about my surgical group! (Always an hour+ wait for office visits, poor staff communication, lack of personal attention from surgeon, etc...) I honestly always feel rushed and "blown off" when I'm there, like they're understaffed and carry too many patients. Soooo, obviously this doesn't make me feel super confident going into a major surgery. My question is...is it possible to switch surgical groups once insurance has approved? I do great with staying on track with eating - I find it difficult to stay motivated in the exercising department - that's where I need advice - how do others keep themselves moving, interested, and ready to go. The only thing holding things back from getting a surgical date is my iron levels need to get up by 5 more points but I am finding it difficult to get myself motivated to go for that walk daily so advice on what keeps others going and moving would be so appreciated

  33. Hello. Today is a sad day for me because I learned that my surgery has been denied due to errors from the psych eval. The doctor's office sent an addendum stating that there were errors on their previous report - they had my records mixed up with someone else's records - yet Blue Cross Blue Shield still denied it. I've been waiting all day for the phych doctor to call me back, and at 2 p.m., still no call back. If the doctor refuses to work in my defense and rectify their error, what next? I am happy to tell that my worries have subsided because I was able to tolerate everything I tried today! Yogurt, oatmeal (watery), and a softly scrambled egg with some low fat cheese!! I was very nervous about getting stuck or nauseous or whatever but, I think because I was so worried I really paid attention to the guidelines of eating with my new pouch! So relieved!! I know that I'll feel younger, and move better, and maybe my knees and feet will feel better, and my breathing will be better. But all that fat plumped out my wrinkles, and gave me boobs. I've been told I look 10-15 years younger than my age. So now I'll look old, and haggard, and seriously droopy. It's not my biggest concern, but I can't help thinking about that.
