Hi all, Im new to this forum and have just started the process of appointments with the dietitian, physiologist, surgeon, etc. I was told by one of the nurses at the clinic that around 60% of people who get an RNY bypass don't follow the post-op program with varying degrees of consequences including malnutrition. This is slightly worrying because i imagine each and every one of those people told themselves they'd follow the program faithfully and do everything they were told to do only to end up NOT doing what they knew they should. Does this mean that the post-op plan is SO hard to follow that the majority of people are prepared to risk their health by not foll…

I had my lapband removed and converted to gastric bypass on March 7 2016. Forever gone is the constant sliming, throwing up, and the worst reflux ever,( which included several bouts of aspiration pneumonia). This is the best I have felt in years. My HW 265. My initial visit weight-255. My current weight.......I'm in onederland!! 195. I need to lose 10 more before September 18...a cruise to Bermuda!! My goal is 155, although that dosent seem ever possible. I think I am definitely slower at this than most...but feel better than I have for years. Anyone else going this slow?? Maybe I've lost all I am going to?? Even if....it was worth it!! Sent from my SM-G920T…

I'm going to make this the "Reader's Digest Version". I had my lap band removed 8/1. I was planning on having a revision to the sleeve the same day but due to scar tissue it didn't happen. In the mean time I read a lot and thought a lot and decided I'd rather have the bypass. I was scheduled for 9/22 and today received a call and asked if I would be able to schedule for 9/6 instead. I of course said yes. I am wondering if anyone has had their band removed and their revision done a month later? If so, how was recovery? I know typically it's done 90 days later so that's why I'm asking. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm 19, and almost all the way through the surgical weight loss program. I have one more dietician appointment until the surgeon consult. I'm so nervous about the lifestyle change, especially being so young and not experiencing the normal things a teenager would, post-op. I'm the youngest one in all my support groups, and it actually kinda sucks to not have anyone who understands where I'm coming from completely..

My doctor's office submitted my information to my insurance on 8/30/16 and they called me today, 9/9/16, to tell me I've been approved! Surgery is scheduled for October 18, 2016 in Rochester MN (Mayo Clinic). It's starting to feel more and more real! :-) Anyone else having surgery on or around that time?

Hello everyone Haven't been able to chat for a while like I have want to. I again had complication and just got home from having the lower intestine revise. Had a obstruction and a lot of scar tissue which was preventing me from keeping food down. It has been a nightmare for me but I hope this is my last time. Within 11 month have had 3 surgury and 4 dilation. I believe this time I will be better. I do feel a little better. I really love this support group and need all the support I can have. I have a question. I have had this cough before I had surgury and it is not a pneumonia. I scream of pain even when I hold on and hug a pillow tight to support my stomach. I was won…

Hi there I am having a gastric bypass on 16th August and looking forward to the positive changes that will come with it ... reduction or elimination of insulin, improvement of GERD, lowering of blood pressure, being able to move better .. maybe even less knee pain. Of course I am worried about the outcome particularly since I also have a heart condition, although my cardiologist assures me I will be fine and my heart will even benefit from my losing weight. As a nurse I know I will lose weight but in the back of my mind I still have this nagging doubt. I suppose with all the failed diets in my 56 years I can't believe that this time it will work. What I am curious a…

I had surgery last Wednesday. I feel great! I should get my JP drain removed on Thursday. I have been out a few times already. Monday the nurse called and was not happy that I was not getting in my liquids or protien. I was getting in about 20oz of liquids....15 grams of protien ..maybe even less protien... I was only home for 3 days..off meds for a day and a half. She wanted more liquids and protien. I am trying but it's hard! Today I have 32 grams of Protein and 34 oz of liquids. I'm forcing down some now. I'm just frustrated...where do they think this liquid is going?!?! any advice? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

Ok friends I have a question. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out of the RNY BYPASS and supposed to be on purée and I did it a couple times but I'm mostly eating soft foods and chewing very well. I've had no stomach problems and no bathroom problems. Was just wondering if anybody just skipped the purée stage and went straight to soft food. Does this do any damages down the line. Or if it's working for me to just stick with the soft foods. Thx for info. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I was just wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal or if I should get checked out. I'll be 4 weeks post surgery on Monday I had a lap band removed and bypass at the same time. I'm still so tired all the time, like physically exhausted that I can't do much besides sleep. I'm also feeling nauseated especially when eating and the last couple of days I've had a dull ach across my stomach, I'm not sure if that's just the internal stitches healing etc or if there's more to it, any help would be great, also I'd love to know what ppl lost (in KG if possible in the first 4 weeks post op, I've lost 12.4kg) and just want to know I'm on the right track! Thank you

I haven't been on this forum in years... literally. Long sad story short I had a Realize band placed in 2010. By sheer force of will I managed to lose about 80 pounds while I went through fills and waited for the band to do something. All my loss was via self-control and acting on guilt for spending so much of the family's money on the surgery. I got to 80 pounds and the program I was in told me more or less that I had lost all the weight I could expect to lose and that they wouldn't fill my band any further. I got pregnant... gained some of the weight back... had a baby... lost the weight again. I was still 200 pounds at my lowest. After years of constant port pa…

Is there anyone else out there mourning the loss of their favorite food items? As we come into months of heavy eating, November thru New Years Day, I have found that I still miss the foods that not actually brought me to my condition, but just the idea of eating them in small quantities. I had my surgery 8/16/16 and have lost over 45 pounds with 75 more to reach my goal. I don't want to 'cheat' but I don't feel that having a sliver of a whopper or big mac or pizza, or FF would set me back to the start of my journey and yet, I mourn the fact that I no longer have a craving for these items but feel the loss of their presence in my life. I don't eat sweets of any kind a…

First off, this has nothing even remotely related to weight loss surgery. I found this research interesting so I thought I would post a link. Two groups of Native Americans, the Flatheads of Montana and the Blackfoot of Alberta, used sweetgrass as an insect repellent. They did so by burning the grass and allowing the smoke to saturate their clothing or by placing sachets (scented bags) of sweetgrass in their clothing. A group of scientist tested the effectiveness of essential oils of sweetgrass in a side by side comparison with DEET in the effectiveness to repel mosquitoes. They found that they were equally effective. The results were published recently in the Journ…

Recently I told my fiancé about me wanting to get gastric bypass and since then he's been unsupportive. He doesn't think I need to get it done and he thinks I'm trying to take "the easy way out". I went through this whole process about me wanting to get surgery in 2013 and I opted not to because of the people in my surrounding not supporting me or talking negatively about it. I thought then that maybe I was trying to take the easy way out, so I didn't finish the process. I was able to lose weight on my own with healthy eating and exercise and around the time that I was deciding that I wanted to get surgery the first time I met my fiancé. I felt bad because we were star…

I am 6 mos post op RNY. Last night while I was laying in bed watching television, I developed severe leg cramping in both upper thighs. It was so painful it was almost impossible to get out of bed. Luckily I had a bottle of Water on nightstand and drank a lot of water thinking it may have been due to dehydration. I finally laid on my side and stretched my leg and did the same to the other side. It wasn't a Charlie horse which is in the calf. It finally relaxed but wow was it uncomfortable. Anyone else experience this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have posted this before, but am now really struggling and need advice/words of wisdom/ANYTHING. I had surgery 7/27 and it truly has been great! I'm down almost 90 pounds woo! Something i am struggling with so much is what I would call "frothy" vomiting after eating. The best way I can describe it is tightening of my chest, excessive saliva and burping until i eventually have to throw up. I know it is not dumping because i've experienced that (dumping for me is more of a total body experience with sweat, shaking, etc). This does not happen all the time, but frequently enough to drive me insane. Just today, i ate veggies and chicken for dinner, got sick, tried a banana…

This stuff is great. They have "extra strength" versions of it so if your worried about protein, Muscle Milk will get you to where you want to be. I am 4 days post up and I got in 100 grams of protein yesterday. I drank two different Muscle Milks (one was the extra protein version), and I had 3/4 of a can of cream of chicken soup with 1tbsp of genepro non flavored protein powder. The rest of my day was water and vitamins. So far, so good! My favorite part of Muscle Milk is that it is available a lot of places. I can just grab one at Walgreens or 711 anytime! Hope that helps. Hi There, I'm new to the forums, but I think the idea of having a buddy would be super good for me. I'm really starting to struggle with the preop diet and procedures and stress, so I'm pretty worried about how I will do post-op :/ I've always been big, but now it's gotten to the point where it is affecting my mobility (and I'm only 28) and ability to fit in public places, so I really need to do this surgery, but I'm all sorts of worried about it, honestly. I live in Alexandria, VA, but I'm having the surgery in Herndon and their support group is too far away from me to be practical really. So if anyone is interested in being buddies, I'd be really happy to hear from y…
