There was a recent study on the effects of yo-yo dieting on women. The problem is that I cannot tell what it all means. The results of the study showed that: There was an association between weight cycling — also known as "yo-yo dieting" — and the risk of sudden cardiac death. The increased risk was more than three-fold greater in these cyclers than in weight stable women. Weight cycling by overweight or obese women carried no excess risk of death, however. Similarly, women who reported a maintained weight loss or gain had no increased risk of death. The sample size was large. Lead investigator Dr. Somwail Rasla from Memorial Hospital in Rhode Island analyzed the…

I'm 4 months post op and just started tp notice a lot of hair loss :'( I was hoping I was going to be one of the lucky ones that it doesn't seem to be so drastic but I'm beginning to worry already :'( I do very well with my Protein & Vitamin intake daily but I have been reading it just doesn't matter whrn it comes to the hair loss. My main concern now is how long will this take before it stops falling out? I have read up to a year! There will be NO more hair on my head way before a year :'( I do use Nixon shampoo & conditioner to help with the regrowth :-) Any secrets anyone has to help me get through this would be great!! :-) Sent from my SGH-T999L using the…

So having scoured forums for suggestions of palatable Protein drinks I find most of the ones recommended are not available in Australia. Does anyone have some suggestions of ones that taste reasonable and are well tolerated by a new pouch? I am having trouble with my pouch not wanting to accept anything much in the way of protein. Hi all! I'm new to the site as well as the weight loss surgery adventure! I had my first consultation with the Nurse Practitioner on 11/11/16 and she said I was an excellent candidate for surgery. I currently weight 272 lbs and I am 5'5". I was told I would need to lose between 13-14 lbs before the day of my surgery. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield MA, and I had them send over the prerequisites, and they don't mention any 6 month diet. I have to have a psych evaluation, and ekg, a chest xray, and an endoscopy before I can be approved. I just wanted to see what I should be expecting for a time line. I have my appointment with the nutritionist on 11/29/16, and an appointm…

This is my first time on the forum.... I got a lapband 14 yrs ago, never really saw any change. Then about 4 years ago, I lost 100lbs, through diet and exercise. Honestly, never thought I would go back to being heavy again. But... I changed to a new job I hate and have gained back 60lbs. My surgery is scheduled for 11/29; my husband thinks I can lose the weight on my own. I feel like I have no will power and just go back to my horrible diet favorites. Is it really worth all the bad parts (dumping/hair loss/never having chocolate again) of having the gastric bypass?????? This could be the pre-op diet talking (it's hard), but I need some real perspective! *Me aft…

How many of you had to go through the same criteria as an initial bariatric surgery patient??? My surgeon's office asserts that everyone has to go through the same 6 month process even though my insurance has told me differently--twice! (Even talked to the bariatric nurse in the precert department.) Now, they want me to call the insurance company and have them call the surgeon's office on 3way to tell them that. Does this seem odd to anyone else? I get why they would want me to do the long process. It is more money for them as I would have to see the surgeon more often and they would not change their routine. However, I would love to have this done before the end of …

Hello everyone I had my first Gastric Bypass on December 2015. I have had a few complications but have faith everything will fall into place. I been married for 8years and now that I lost all the weight, my husband is changing towards me. At first he was happy I lost weight and now it's like whatever and he has been not himself. He supported me at first. I use to have big breast before my surgury and a hourglass body and decent behind( sorry to much information) and now I went from a size 14 to a size 2 and went 3 bra size down and flat behind. I am self conscious and feel like unattractive. I have become very shy in many ways. Is this normal? Or anyone else experience a…

Hello all...I've posted a few times on the forums, but read things a lot. I've learned a lot from everyone here, and also learned a lot about what not to do! I had my surgery on October 17th. On the 21st I started running a fever, called my surgeon, and made the 2 hour drive to the hospital where I had surgery. By the time I got there my fever was up to 103.4. I spent 2 nights there, had a CT and 2 x-rays, for them to determine that I just had a virus and they sent me home that Sunday. Unfortunately, the CT contrast gave me horrible diarrhea, and just when I thought it was getting better, it would come back with a vengeance. I began to question whether it was really …

I have always had hormone issues, low low progesterone. Never was that emotional "girly girl"but lately. Had a partial hysterectomy in June stage 2 cancer, but rny bypass was already in the works, pre op classes and monthly weight loss visits. Got the go ahead from cancer specialist in Sept. Rny October 3rd. I have lost 60 lbs total happy about that. No longer is my life food centered. Lately I am so hormonal though. I am over sensitive and cry at the drop of a hat. Not sad just goofy stuff. It's like I see me thinking crying about this is stupid yet cry anyways. Movies, things people say even positive, my favorite skirt fell off, still not sure if that was happy or sad t…

Advise needed. I am 8 weeks out from bypass. This second month I have lost 3 lbs total. It is so frustrating. I understand there are stalls, I have read up on them and get they are a true problem during the early weight loss stages... but this feels more then a stall. I feel like I am doing something wrong. I started working out a month ago, 3-4 times a week... hard hiit style training. I increased my calories to 900, I drink 60-80oz Water, 80 grams Protein. I try to do a low carb diet, between 30-50 grams a day. I track my food and weight most of the time so I know my macros and calories are pretty accurate. Here are things I know I am not doing right.... I do …

The last 25 pounds are killing me smalls! I will be a year out from my gastric bypass on December 9th. Hw 315 Sw 302 Cw 165. My Doctor wants me to get down to 140, so I'm on the last stretch, but it's HARD NOW!! I can eat more, usually getting to 1200 calories, and I have a three pound drop/gain. Sometimes I'm 164, sometimes I'm 167, but most days I'm 165. It's been a month like this. I lost 6 pounds a month ago. Then this little bouncing game for the last four weeks. And getting that last six pounds off was hard. What I'd like to know is, what are some tips and tricks that could help me get this last 25 pounds off, from other gastric bypass patients. I fell like I didn't have surgery. I'm 3 weeks out from bypass and only lost when I was on fluids. Once I started the soft food stage, I stopped losing. I haven't felt any restriction at all and haven't had any trouble eating anything. This is not what I expected at all. Has anyone felt like this? Does it change? Hey everyone! My surgery date is coming up soon (Nov 9th) and I'm looking for anyone else that's having surgery around the same time. I'd love to have some surgery buddies to text/message throughout the process. I don't really use FB but I'm on Instagram (same name) if anyone wants to be friends there! As a bonus if there's anyone that's also pre-op in Chicago, I'd love to chat. I'm going through Northwestern Memorial with Dr. Fronza. Thanks! Christina Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was wondering if anyone out there had been diagnosed with fibro before having bypass surgery. I can't find a straight answer from any of my docs and there isn't anyone in my support group or pain group with this particular issue. I'm wondering if this weight loss is going to "cure " my fibro. Not that I wouldn't have done this anyway, I am a revision patient from a VBG/SR back in 1999, having issues with the ring. Just wondering if my horrendous pain might actually go away in the next year? Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

Hello All! I had Gastric Bypass on July 14, 2016. My highest weight was 275. I have lost weight on my own many times but always fail to keep it off. When I started my WLS journey, I weighed in at 258. The day of surgery, I weighed 236 and I currently weight 185. My next post of visit is November 7. At my last post op (September 7), my surgeon told me she expected me to lose another 30 to 40 pounds by November 7th. I have only lost 3!!!! I am happy with my results so far, but I am concerned that I have started my self destructive ways that always tend to get the best of me. I am able to eat pretty much ANYTHING. NO DUMPING! I have started eating carbs again…

One of the most amazing things for me is my menopause hot flashes and night sweats have dramatically decreased since my RNY!! I had a complete hysterectomy including ovaries in October and went in to immediate surgical menopause.. What a horrific experience. I had no idea it would be so hard and because I had cancer and a blood clotting disorder I could take NO hrt no hormones whatsoever not even bio identicals . Needless to say I was suffering miserably.. But since my surgery on May 21 my hot flashes are down from like 100 to 1-2 a day and night sweats which caused me to not sleep more than an hour have lessened so much I actually slept 5 straight hours!!!!!
