Constipation

I am 2 weeks post op and having to battle with this a little bit, it is enough to be pretty uncomfortable. Any advice other than the softeners I was prescribed when I left the hospital? Water intake is good, not great - 6 glasses daily.

Everything else feels just fine!

These are some of the recommendations from past threads to deal with constipation.

* Eating apples with the skin

* Smooth Move Herbal Tea
* Prune Juice (warmed)
* Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night)
* Magnesium citrate
* Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber).
* Haribo Sugar Free Gummy Bears. (Be careful with this one because it can lead to diarrhea.)
* Aerobic Magnesium 07
* Ground Flax Seeds (but don’t try to grind it yourself). Use 2 tablespoons per glass of water every night before going to bed.
* Low Fat Bran Muffin (recipe). 80 calories each
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups bran cereal
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
½ tablespoon applesauce
optional: banana, berries, mini chocolate chips
Bake 400° F for 22 minutes

How long do the effects of milk of magnesia last?? As in, how often do you all take it?? Also, is it true that if you take it as a laxative, it will give you heartburn?? I took some and i also happened to have horrible heart burn that night but I don't know if it was the magnesia or the tiny chocolate sundae I shared with my sister that afternoon.
