  5. Today I had my behavior modification and nutrition class. I’m between 2/3 of my mandatory 6 months of supervised weight loss and after today I’m still on the fence mainly for live style reasons. I like to eat and drink. I’m 5’9” 47 year old guy with a BMI of 47 and I see the positives but it is a complete 180 change in lifestyle for me, my family, parents, friends, etc. My wife is not on board because it’s a major surgery so I’m trying to educate her but she’s only 25 lbs heavier then high school so she truly doesn’t understand the struggle, just that I should try harder. I look at my 8 year old daughter who is heavier then her friends and I think that doing it would be…

  7. Hi everyone! My surgery is tomorrow and I’m officially in panic mode! What protein supplements are you guys using? I’m doing some last minute shopping... My biggest fear for tomorrow is waking up to a breathing tube in my throat after the surgery. They say that they take it out while you are awake but not 100% alert — I don’t know if I trust. Lol. Can anyone share their experiences??? As well, how was your pain level???? Pls share as I’m going nuts with the fear of unknown!!! thanks

So, I had a band 10yrs ago and nobody knew about it. I never had a very high bmi - around 36 but looked very big. After the band I lost minimal and have just eaten badly due to the vomiting. I am back up to original weight and am going in for a revision. I think I have decided on the RNY due to reflux and one surgeon said that the first restrictive didn't work on my so why do another. I am pretty nervous to do such radical surgery but the band has to come out. My questions are... I understand the first months or 2 are really obvious..but after that, is it possible to hide RNY surgery from people? Not talking about the weightless, talking about the going out to r…

  9. I had my bariatric bypass done about 7 months ago. I have lost about 85 pounds and everything has gone really well except that I still have trouble eating certain foods. A few days ago I suddenly got very severe stomach pain. First I thought that I just had too much to eat but the pain got really bad really quickly and I had to be rushed to the nearest hospital. It turned out that I had developed gallbladder stones and a few of them had traveled to my pancreas and caused a severe inflammation. My gallbladder was full of stones and had to be surgically removed. My surgery was 2 days ago and still my liver and pancreas blood work numbers are really bad. I am writing this to…

Went for my first consultation with bariatric surgeon today. And he said I was a complicated patient, partly because I take several psych meds and am interested in bypass rather than sleeve because I have GERD and Type 2 diabetes. He's worried about managing drug levels after bypass. Anyone have input into this? Do they monitor levels of psych meds? Thanks. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey everyone, I just thought I would introduce myself and tell ya'll a little about me and my journey. So I have been severely obese my whole life and when i was young my mother and grandmother had gastric bypass surgery. When i was about 16 my mother decided that i needed to have the surgery. I went through the process for several months before they realized i was too young for the insurance to cover the surgery. They approached and asked me to wait a few more months until I was almost 18 and then continue the program where I left off. Upset i left and waited coming back to the program a few months before i turned 18 i again attended the appointments as instructed. I wa…

Does GERD get better or worse after bypass surgery? The nurse practitioner at my Gastroenterologist’s office mentioned that it often gets worse but I could have sworn the gastric doc said it would definitely improve.

  14. Hi All! I am about 3 weeks post op after having a sleeve. My mother in law has also gone through the process to be approved for WLS but has terrible acid reflux, so she can’t have a VSG, she also has a hiatal hernia, and a lot of fear after hearing a statistic that 1/200 die from RNY. This is the main thing holding her back. So, my question for you all who have had the surgery, What would you tell her? I think she truly wants to have WLS but now she scared and 1/200 is a pretty high statistic. Have you heard that? Is that true? It’s seems high to me. I’m now 6 weeks out, no weight loss since week 2 and putting weight on now. It’s all going wrong! I thought the weight would just fall off, but it doesn’t. I’m struggling to see what I have achieved by having the surgery!

I had the lap band surgery in 2008 which was largely unsuccessful. I lost about 30 pounds and then gained it all back and a lot more. This band has been so frustrating and living with it is so difficult. I am now 200 pounds overweight and have considered either the sleeve or bypass for the last few years, but find myself paralyzed with fear about the healing and side effects since the bad would also have to be removed. Your experiences with the following would be greatly appreciated! -Band to sleeve or bypass is a double surgery and requires additional healing time. Is the pain awful and even worse than if just one of them was to be performed? I'm very afraid o…

So yesterday wasn’t a great for me as far as following my diet. I weighed myself yesterday morning at 309.2 and this morning, the same scale, is reading 315-317!!!!!!!! I am not proud but yesterday I did eat more often than I should have. I had egg salad(without bread))for a snack and I usually do not snack. I also had part of a sno cone which did have sugar. I’m just unsure how there was such a dramatic increase in weight. TMI, But I will also add I have used the bathroom. I know you shouldn’t weigh everyday but I have never “gained” so much in one day even before surgery. I could go to a buffet and still not gain so much! Hw-378 Sw- 363 (2/27/18) CW-310.6

All worked up, did my 6 months of pcp appointments, egd, ultrasound, sleep study, labs, etc. Got approved though my insurance and my date has been scheduled for June 8th!!! So very excited/nervous at the same time. Do you think there could be anything, once approved by insurance and scheduled, that they would change their minds and not give me the surgery??? It’s just such a blessing and a wonderful tool and I’m so close after waiting so long that I’m afraid any little thing could go wrong. Any last little bit of advice/encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  31. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and a hernia repaired through my belly button on May 5th. I have noticed the last two days that I have tightness in my stomach. It feels like I'm wearing a really tight pair of high-waisted pants, or a corset. Is this normal? I'm getting my protein mainly through protein drinks, but have introduced a few pureed foods, as instructed by my surgeon. I'm not hungry at all, and have to force myself to eat (such a weird phenomena for someone who lived to eat).

Hi, I decided to make this thread to figure out why I am so light headed/dizzy today. I just got my gastric bypass/hernia surgery on May 15th of this month and I tried to go to Raley's today to get some water and some soup broth, I could barely make it through the aisles so I got one of those electric cart thingies and I couldn't really reach for much so a lady who worked there had to carry my stuff to the register and to my car. I was wondering how long does the dizziness/fainting last? Because I didn't really do much and I'm very tired.

It’s not like I gained a lot I think I gained like 20 pounds and lost it all plus 20 pounds after having him. I’ve been stuck at 240 for weeks and can’t seem to get under it. I haven’t changed anything in my routine and it’s very frustrating I’m worried I won’t ever get below 240 [emoji17]

I know I should wait until I am closer to my goal, but I have to have nice dresses for work and my fat clothes are WAY too big on me now (oh darn! lol). I'm not complaining, I've been dreaming of having this problem for a long time, so it's all good. Anyone ever tried one of those clothing rental services? I was looking at Gwinnie Bee since they carry dresses from my favorite store (Nordstrom), but I haven't pulled the trigger & signed up. We need a clothing trading forum on here.

I am getting very frustrated, feeling super defeated, and overall worried. I had surgery on 5/2/18. My surgery weight was about 250 lb. It’s been 18 days and up until three or four days ago, my weight continued to move in a positive direction. I was able to get down to 239.4 lbs and within the last three days, I gained 2 lbs and now it seems I am at a stall. Should I be fluctuating or stalling this early with my weight? I’ve never “cheated” on the specified diet. I’m still in the puréed stage. I’m just getting upset because I feel like this is a prediction of my journey and it doesn’t seem positive. Any advice or experience sharing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A non-scale victory (sort of) I am a ‘bath’ girl. Pretty much every evening, for an hour, I soak in a tub of hot water and sometes read or do emails or come here to you all, my buddies. I have a gas califont that auto sets - so I just push the ‘bath fill’ button and it gives me 110 litres at 45 degrees - and then the water stops running. Now I noticed two or three weeks ago, it doesn’t feel as luxurious and realised the water isn’t covering my chest and keeping All of me toasty warm. Weightloss! My bum doesn’t press up against the sides of the bath any more - in fact I can fit my arms between my hips and the bath. So I have upped my bath quantity - by 30 litres…
