I thought this would be fun because I was so skeptical about this when I heard it would happen, yet almost immediately I am noticing things. Prior to surgery I was addicted to Vitamin Water Zero Rise. Sweetened with Truvia and tasted great. I spent around $200 a month on it because I hate drink mixes and don't like the taste of plain water. That was then. Now, although I still drink it, and it is better than water, it still tastes lousy. It has a terrible initial taste, and a terrible after taste. Very chemical smelling even though it's not sweetened with synthetic sugar. In the past, I really didn't like crystal light. In the hospital, they gave me (pre-…

I had lapband surgery in August of 2008. I only ever lost 35 lbs. About two years in, half of my band collapsed and wouldn’t hold fluid at all. In 2015 I went to the doc for a revision to sleeve. My doc would not convert from band to sleeve due to increased leak risk. He recommended bypass and my insurance quickly approved. I didn’t want bypass and didn’t go through with it. I tried keto and lost 50 lbs. I didn’t keep it off and was back up to 285 which was my initial band weight the first of this year. I decided to have bypass this year and had to fight insurance for 5 months which was crazy because I was in the same position I was in in 2015. On July 2nd I had my band r…

I’m getting a revision from sleeve to bypass next month. I’m a self pay. I went for pre op at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. I wanted to get the final price for my Hospital stay before I made a certified check to the hospital. At first they quoted me 6000.00 when I called they said they made a mistake and that was for a bypass the correct price was 8000.00. I said ok. When i was at pre op I asked the registration person about it . I told her i was gettin a conversion to bypass. She called her supervisor and she said it was 8 grand. She wrote this down and put the supervisor name on a paper and gave this to me. I was at work and i got a call saying no that was incorrect…

I constantly run into Sleevers in their 50s and 60s but I would love to get to know some of you who are bypassers. Seems our life experiences and potential difficulties may make us good support for each other! (You know, little things like menopause, arthritis, etc...). Please come out of "hiding" and gather here. I need to see yall in action! And would love to support you as well!

Hi all, Had my gastric bypass Monday and came home yesterday afternoon-felt like I should have stayed another night but glad to be home. This is quite an adjustment- making sure I get a sip of water every 7 min and taking meds. Hopefully my cramps stop and some more gas releases (: Hope you are all well! Megan

Hi y'all! I am 8 weeks post op and cannot get any relief!! I threw up everything including water so I was severely dehydrated and malnourished, had an ulcer and a stricture, I just got out of the hospital for the 3rd time and this time I was there almost a week due to complications from my surgery. I had to have a picc line inserted in my arm so that I can "eat" through TPN. I am starting to feel better but now my Dr wants me to start trying to eat and literally EVERYTHING still makes me sick!! I am so sad and frustrated, I can't even describe what I've been through these last 8 weeks, oh and by the way the TPN made me gain back all the weight I'd lost so I'm really feeli…

I am in phase 1 of RNY surgery (7/18/18). I have been trying to fit everything in including my vitamins, full liquids and walking. Every sip I take it seems like I'm gonna bust like it's not moving anywhere. Also the premier shakes are bad for me because I'm lactose intolerant. This is really tuff and I'm not even a full week in, whichI knew that it was gonna be, but how do I stay on schedule with meds, fluid and protein without feeling like my stomach is gonna bust.

Has anyone been on thier pre op diet while traveling? I didn't have room to take my binder of info and I drew a blank on what and how much to drink and eat. So I'm just doing one meal per day protein drinks the rest and water. I'm in day 4, my son's bday is tomorrow and my family reunion this weekend... Uggghh!! No bday cake for me. Starting weight: 257lbs Size: 24 and 3X Current Weight: 192lbs Size: 16 and 1X First of all, I am happier than ever, that is the most important takeaway. Other than my husband, no one knows I had surgery. I am so glad that I didn't tell people. I feel amazing! I have energy and confidence again. I have suffered from depression and anxiety for years. Weight loss combined with proper medication has really helped. For the first time in my life, it is starting to get fun to shop for clothes and clothes are comfortable. Nothing hangs out or over anymore. For anyone considering surgery or who has just had surgery and wondering if it was worth it, I promise you, it is the b…

I'm having a bypass revision (5 yrs of reflux with my sleeve. I'm so ready to sleep all nite without choking on stomach acid) on Aug 9th. I'm looking for some protein powder recommendations. I will probly shop on Amazon, but can go into a brick and mortar if need be. I liked Syntrax Nectar Cappucino flavor when I had my sleeve and am thinking about using it again but it's gone way up in price ($40 for a 2lb tub) and Syntrax Medical has unlfav powder for $20 for a 1lb tub. Also thinking about getting a tub of Chike (protein iced coffee powder). It's going to cause $74 for all 3, and thats not including the Premier clear protein that I'm going to get at Sams for about $24 a…

I am over two weeks postop and have been craving eggs. Not something I expected to crave. I found my salvation in eggdrop soup. Super easy to make and gives the sodium and some protein needed after surgery. I hope that helps for those getting board of our limited options. Does anyone else have anything yummy to share? Do you have to wait 30 mins before and after having a protein shake? I just doubt so many things; I know you can have milk with cereal so I was wondering about shakes and water. I feel like the water will flush out the protein but doesn't a protein shake have water in it. But then I think the water will still flush it out or dilute it. I dunno. I'm just so unsure.

I'm having a hard time deciding on what my goal weight should be. What was everyone else's progression of weights pre and post op? At first I was thinking 110, but I am conflicted because my lowest weight ever was 102 but I feel like it might be unhealthy. What was everyone's average weight loss and for those of you who already made it to your goal weight, how long did it take you to get there and do you /did you have any unexpected troubles? Any problems with skin in the end? Sent from my LM-G710VM using BariatricPal mobile app

Im 2 weeks post op tomorrow and having some issues with water, propel, or any liquid. I can keep it down but it feels like it’s getting stuck on the way down or like I’ve got air trapped. I’m not using straws or anything like that and taking baby sips. It hurts in my throat and chest area. I have a appointment tomorrow at 1 pm but I really can’t go that long not drinking anything. Anyone else experience this? It’s happening with any drink.

Hello all, I am having trouble getting my protein in. I have 3 weeks out from gastric bypass. I am back at work and I feel ok for now, but worried about in the long run. I can't seem to stomach my protein shakes at all. I have a few others on the way to try, but it's like they hit my stomach so hard. I also can only get about 40oz of water in as well. Any tips? Thank you!

I am still pre op and picking up items here and there to try. I will be seeing my nutritionist again once I'm approved and can/will ask her as well. I'm curious as to whether a certain soup I tried and really liked is ok. It has 13 g sugar total (3 of which are added, 10 natural) Along those same lines how many grams of natural sugars ARE ok post op? The rule of thumb I was given is to try and stay under 10 grams/serving, but didn't know If that was total or added. Also, if something has say 13 but I am only able to eat a half serving, is that ok? Sorry if I rambled and im really NOT stupid, I swear....lol

I have been working towards this day for a bit over a year. Tricare have you do many pre-op classes even though I am a revision due to complications. My lap band never really worked the way I anticipated. Either too tight or not enough restriction. The band has taught me some very poor eating habits. I am nervous about failure, health issues, toilet issues, gas issues, dumping issues; what if I cause myself irreversible health issues. I am 53, worried about my health when I am older. I guess..I admit...i am scared. I am suppose to be happy, what is wrong with me. [emoji53] Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi. I don't want to sound ignorant but if I don't ask, I'll never know. I was looking at getting a tattoo, a small one, some time between next month and December. I am worried about the tattoo shrinking and I don't know if I should wait until after I have skin removal surgery (if I ever get to that point) to get it. Does anyone have a tattoo? Did you get it before or after surgery? How did it look after losing weight? I'm sorry for so many questions but this tattoo is really important to me and its not just a sudden choice, been thinking about it since I was 18 but my weight has held me back. So, had my GP on the 17th, surgery went fine, but complications afterward (while in the hospital) made it very hard for me and they kept me a bit longer than expected. I had projectile vomiting and uncontrollable dry-heaving. Luckily it didn't last beyond a day. I haven't used any pain killers since being home but have been struggling with one thing - this god-awful multi-vitamin. The first liquid bottle we got literally looked, smelled, and tasted like horse diarrhea (don't ask me how I know that) and I couldn't stomach it. We took it back and got a powder version with a hint of lemon which took the edge off but I am still gagging with it, which makes my stomach hurt. No…

Ok so I tried to search first before starting this but had no luck. I was diabetic before surgery taking 80units of levimere twice daily and 1000mg metformin twice daily just to try and control my blood sugar. Gaining weight because of the medication. The big push for the bypass was because everyone believed that post surgery you tend to get rid of diabetes. Well up till last couple days my glucose readings have been 95-104 when I check. I checked a bit earlier and I had a spike of 145 which freaked me out. Its now 4wks post surgery all I had today was my triple zero yogurt that I generally have and 1 cracker with pb on it. I have had this before w…

Anyone else obsessed with how they look? I can't help looking at my reflection when ever possible. I do a lot of walking while at work and I purposely check my reflection out every time I walk in front of a store front with big windows. I don't want to sound vane or boastful but I am so happy with the way I look and feel. I think this is the happiest I have ever been in my life. I am proud of where I am at and how I got here.

Hi everyone, My name is Meridian and I had my surgery almost four years ago. I started at 385, got down to 311 and now I am stuck in the 250s to the 260s. I had my surgery in Omaha, NE and ended up moving to Florida only a month after my surgery. Well, I had a lot of complications (like bleeding, dehydration, etc). I also was an idiot because I was so young and thought I could do this surgery my way. I am now 24 and I am trying to get back on track and finish losing the next 100 pounds. I started drinking protein shakes again, walking more (I even got a job where I move around a lot) and I stopped using straws. I already lost 2.8 lbs and hopefully I will lose more. …

Has anyone else experienced lower back pain? I'm a few days from 3 weeks post op and have had some lower back pain all night. No temp...everything else seems okay. At my last appt they said I should be in the clear for infections or leaks, but I'm still pretty nervous!! Any idea when I can feel "okay"? I have heard differing opinions...3 weeks, 1 month, 90 days, & never. Ugh. Why is this causing so much mental stress. ?

Has anyone experienced a difference in the way things taste post-op? I'm only post-op 11 days, but things that had a well-defined taste for me previously seem to be unusually bland now or have a strong aftertaste. We all have different taste sensations. I'm also one of those "tasters" who can detect a metallic-type taste when my IV is flushed with saline, for example. I've heard plenty of nurses who talk about the comments they hear from other "tasters".

Hello, I'm trying to find someone my age (I'm 31) who has had the gastric bypass for a long while and is doing really good at it to motivate me/help me with keeping on track. I live in Northern California, as I stated that up there. But I'm trying to find someone who is either at the same milestones in their lives as me because everybody I've met has kids and everything or married and I don't want to feel like I'm burdening people/not in that point in my life plus I want somebody I could relate to and they could relate to me (I don't relate to nobody though so I wish I could). I had the most productive day so far since surgery. I’ve been behind on house work due to surgery so I got some stuff done today. I cleaned bathrooms, kitchen, bedroom, and did all the laundry that had piled up. I felt so good for being productive but now I’m having a severe burning/ pulling pain in my left lower abdomen and back. It feels like someone is stabbing me if I bend down or try to straighten up. It’s not incision pain because it’s below my incisions. I took 20mg of liquid pain meds from hospital it was hurting so bad and it is barely touching it. It only doesn’t hurt when I’m sitting in my recliner. I had this pain right after surgery for a little over a week a…

On Saturday around 3:42 PM I experienced some pressure in my chest after eating a shredded piece of chicken. After some time, the pain grew and radiated to my back - sometimes it was hard to breathe. After about half an hour or so I began to throw up saliva and it was clear/white and very thick; it did not burn or feel acidic. As this occurred I also was burping in-between. This went on for about three and a half hours until the final time and everything stopped. I felt weak afterwards due to the stress and strain. It concerns me since that was only my first meal of the day. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? It was the scariest thing I've felt and d…

I'm about 3.5 months out from surgery and experienced my first case of the "foamies" last night. It wasn't pleasant to say the least. I'm sure it was either eating too much or a piece of meat that got stuck. Last night's episode lasted about 3 hours. I've only had a similar feeling twice before when I've eaten too much and walking around for a few minutes would usually be enough to jiggle the contents of my pouch out into the intestines. Walking did nothing to help last night and laying down was worse. I sat in front of the toilet waiting for it to come up but then I started to hear the digestive juices in my stomach and all the sudden I felt better. I got luck…

Has anyone had experience with lower left abdominal pain? It comes and goes. It was bad after surgery then went away for about a week, then today it was back again. It feels like ripping or pulling and stinging. They did a CT scan a week ago and everything was fine. Today I was stuck and couldnt move the pain was so bad. After 2 oxycodone I was able to get up...it was a terrible 2 hours. I did message my doctor, but was wondering if anyone had any insight into this?

My NUT doesn’t give us a certain amount of food to stick to at meal times... I’m seriously afraid to eat because I don’t want to get sick or bust the staple line like I’ve heard of on here. I don’t get a full sensation and I’ve read several different things on what causes hiccups when eating after surgery. I don’t know if this is my signal to stop or not but I also don’t want to push it to find out. Any suggestions? I’m a few days over 2 weeks post op. Thanks!

I just had the most satisfying meal since my surgery! Refried Beans. YUMMY! No seasoning added just straight out of the can warmed up in the microwave. Quick ?: My post-op diet paperwork said I could have a 1/2 cup of Refried Beans. I'm 3 weeks post-op. Isn't a 1/2 a cup 4 ounces? And, isn't our pouch only 2 ounces!!? Maybe it's considered a "slider" food? I finished about 3/4 of the 1/2 a cup and feel really satisfied and full. Adding this to my favorite meal list so far. I almost felt like I was having a taco. Haha!
