I’m getting a revision from sleeve to bypass next month. I’m a self pay. I went for pre op at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. I wanted to get the final price for my Hospital stay before I made a certified check to the hospital. At first they quoted me 6000.00 when I called they said they made a mistake and that was for a bypass the correct price was 8000.00. I said ok. When i was at pre op I asked the registration person about it . I told her i was gettin a conversion to bypass. She called her supervisor and she said it was 8 grand. She wrote this down and put the supervisor name on a paper and gave this to me. I was at work and i got a call saying no that was incorrect it was 10,500. I was upset. The lowered the price down to 9500.00 after they saw I was so upset. Would you take that lower figure or try to go for anything lower. Actually the person on the phone said we don’t quote prices . When in fact the supervisor that the registration person called that gave the 8grand figure was the person that is trying to tell me now that it’s really 10,500.00

Out of pocket, with insurance, I paid about 3k for my surgery.

You are getting a bargain for any price listed there in my opinion for surgery in the States.

Is this just the hospital portion? I paid $9000 total last year. $3000 for the surgeon, $6000 for the 2 night hospital stay.

Prices vary so much. Where I live, cash prices are $19000. So I went to Florida.

Something seems fishy....if they quoted you a price, they should honor it.

Talk to the supervisor who’s name you have! Something isn’t right. I’m don’t think anything is fishy, i just think no one knows what they are talking about!

If you are self pat, you really should have some kind of contract that spells out the costs and obligations on both sides - the insurance companies do that in their network contracts and it is reasonable to do so as a self pay patient. We self paid for my wife's DS and that was under an all inclusive contract that the surgeon had worked out with the hospital - all hospital and surgical fees including anesthesia and incidentals (no lingering bills for $10 Q-Tips, etc. and it seems that everyone down to, seemingly, the floor sweepers are independent contractors wanting to send you a separate bill.) Our contract also included a cost cap in the event of complications, covering additional surgeries and hospital days, if needed. As a self pay, you have the choice of dealing with any surgeon and hospital in the world; the surgeons are often more sensitive to this than hospital administrators, though I would expect in a city like Huntsville they would be more sensitive to competition than an a rural county with only one hospital.

Talk to your surgeon about this. They are often on staff at multiple hospitals, and some hospitals are more accommodating than others.

Good luck, and hope all works out...

I went to Crestwood this morning and they did make it right for me. They realized their mistakes in quoting me incorrect prices for the surgery. They made it fair for both parties.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
