I just found out that my insurance has approved me. I do not have to do any 3-4-5 or 6 month supervised diet. Insurance just wants psych eval, nutrition visit and dr visits. I've filled out all my paperwork and insurance only needs detailed diet attempts and primary dr letter of concern. My Bariatric dr is a 2 hr drive for me. So they e-mailed me the forms to fill out and e-mailed them back. Once my coordinator gets all the ducks in a row, she will schedule an appointment for a physician consult, psych eval, and nutrition class all in one day. It should be by mid August 2013 when my procedure happens. I will keep you updated. My preference is the gastric sleeve.

Three years ago I went to the bariatric seminar planning on having surgery as soon as possible. I walked out telling myself that if I have to wait six months - screw it. I could do it on my own. I'm 50 years old, live like I'm 30, very active socially, and enjoy my Friday night cocktails. Part of my problem is that I actually have a very happy life - with the exception of being too fat to shop in an normal store - and being too fat to even roll over comfortably on a bed, let alone having a normal physical life with my husband (I know - nobody talks about that part - but let's face it, it's reality). Four months ago I went back to the same seminar, told them I had bee…

Hi there! I usually lurk on these sites, but every once and a while I actually want to reply to a question, but I guess it's rude to do so without introducing myself. I was sleeved May 30, 2013 by Dr. Ramos-Kelly in Tijuana. I had a BMI of 30.9 (Possibly lower, I stopped weighing myself, as i started to get worried the pre-op diet would be so effective I wouldn't be eligble for the sleeve by the time my OR date arrived.) Yes, my BMI was is low, but it's been higher, and I simply got tired of fighting all the time to get my weight down, while always firmly staying in the "obese" range. It really started to suck that I was dieting all the time, but still couldn't wear…

I had my band 3 years ago. I started out at 265 and in the first few months I lost 50 pounds. Great huh? Except 3 years later I feel I can eat almost as much as before and have started to gain it back. I think I have quite a bit of fill but I am too embarrassed to go back Does anyone have any suggestions to get me back on track? I went for a walk today and drank more water. I also work nights and find it very hard on the diet. I'm either eating to stay awake or just eating the wrong things. I need support from fellow lap band members!!

After many years of weight struggles I'm getting the sleeve in 6 days!!! I'm excite and nervous at the same time. I live in Louisiana but will be traveling to Mexico to have it done. I know 9 lady's that have done it at the same hospital. I have no health problems so I'm hoping not to have any when I come out of the surgery.... Acid reflex and things like that. My concerns are will I loose all the weight? Will I have a fast recovery? But it's about to be on so we will see!!!!!

Hello everyone, I am looking for as much guidance as possible. I am very excited for this VSG surgery (September 9). I am feeling a little uneasy for many reasons. One, I am doing this alone. I am getting it done in Mexico, where my mother had hers done. I have only heard exceptional things about all aspects of the journey there. The staff, doctors, drivers, the stay itself etc. I am 23 years old and am still kind of a baby when it comes to going out into the unknown, so far from home (Oregon). I have a million questions, even after doing a bunch of research. I suppose I will list some and see where this goes. 1. I am a smoker, and as much as I would like to not be, i…

My last post of the day.... If I hear one more person tell me they don't think my upcoming sleeve surgery isn't a good idea I'm going to go mental. My husband supports me - in the sense that he supports any choice I make that will better my health. My son thinks it's a copout. My friends keep telling me I don't have good luck with surgeries (yes, i am usually the one in a million with some strange complication) and that I can do this on my own. My parents are scared to death. I'm fearing the lack of support is going to be my downfall. Now, I'm telling everyone I've cancelled it (with the exception of immediate family), and am going to get through this one way or ano…

My surgery is scheduled for September 4, 2013. I will be traveling to my daughter's wedding in Utah on September 28th. I am nervous not only about the surgery itself, but the traveling and adjustment to the new diet. I am wondering if I should postpone the surgery, or will I feel up to making the trip?

Hi my name is Sarah and I am a married 30 yr old female from Indiana and I'm currently in the process of waiting for insurance submission for rny at Carmel bariatric center of excellence. I've always been a tall and wide person with low self esteem cause ppl called me fat and my grandfather was really mean about my weight even before I started getting heavy. Anyways, I recently got diagnosed w diabetes and this really upset me and my doctor recommended surgery which I agreed on and started my consult at the end of June. I do my last recommendation on Wednesday and then will wait on medicare and the insurance lady to set up a time for my tests and physical and stuff. …

I have been struggling lately when I stumbled upon this app. The forums of the hospital where I had my surgery done was filled with snobs and people judging which was unbelievable to me. I tried to be supportive and helpful for others and got knocked down a lot. I finally unsubscribed and left. Since only people who have the surgery can understand what life is like afterward, I have found myself alone for a while now. I have a wonderful support system at home but again, their understanding is limited. I am 1 year and 5 days shy of 8 months since my surgery. I'd like to share my story but I'm feeling things out first. It's a heck of a story lol. I have blogged a lot of it …

Hi everyone I just wanted to introduce myself I am new to the forums but not new the site. When I started my journey I would always come here for answers to all my questions. I had my surgery August 14th of this year and I am still adjusting to a new life. So far I have not had any complications. I hope that on here I can make a few friends and have a good source of support while I go thru this journey.

For me it was a life of abuse, I put on weight to keep people as a distance so I would not be hurt, and it nearly killed me! I'm also a professional baker and cake decorator. I was always tasting and eating left overs. When I started losing weight I had to keep a sink of hot soapy water to put the bowls in so I would not lick, taste or otherwise. We all have our stories, yours just might be the one to help someone overcome theirs. Blessings!

Hi there, I am new to TT and am anxious to participate and to see what everybody else has to say about their VSG journey. I started my journey in November of 2010 and finally had my surgery on March 16th, 2011. I had an awesome experience with everyone involved with my case. My surgeorn was Dr. Wisbach at Balboa Navy Hospital in San Diego, Ca and everyone on his team was super friendly and helpful. They helped me all along the way. I went in on Wednesday, March 16th at 11:00 am and had surgery at about 12:30 and was in recovery by 3:00 pm. My Dr. came in to see me in recovery and as groggy as I still was, he assured me that he was very pleased with the outcome. I remained…

After 20 years of ups and downs with my weight, I have finally decided to have the sleeve surgery. Today, I had to see the nutritionist and had a psych appointment as required by my insurance company. Tomorrow to the cardiologist and after I receive clearance, I'll be able to receive my surgery date hopefully. I'm 50 years old, 5'4, weigh 248 and SCARED TO DEATH. I have never, ever been successful at losing weight and I truly hope I'm doing the right thing.

Ok...strange post with a strange ? Is it possible my surgery just didn't work? I had VSG on the 15th and have felt great other than a little gas in the beginning. Now I can eat, drink and have no problem with sugar at all. I can drink 4 oz at a time no problem. I had about 3/4 can of chili for dinner followed by a handful of m&m's. I am just so worried after all of this I won't end up loosing weight.

Hi everyone , I have just began my journal and will have to do a 6 month weight management as required by my insurance. I have had my first seminar as well as my first consultation . I am so excited, that I am on this path, I have a psy eval next month and i am looking forward to it because this will be another item I can check off of my todo list. I am hoping that my six month requirements flys by fast so that I may stay on track and have my surgery in the begining of Jan 2014. I am looking forward to learning and sharing ideas, thoughts, frustrations with everyone. I have selected Henry Ford Macomb in Clinton Twp as my desired place to began this new journal after a…

I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. My name is Christina. I have spent most of my adult life avoiding cameras so my pic is one of my 3 siberian huskies. Once I can get a decent pic on my computer I will change it. I had my surgery 9 days ago. I waited almost a year for my surgery due to insurance red tape. I was so excited to finally get it. I am having a lot of pain where the port is. I seem to not be able to tie my shoes on the right side, lay on my right side, rest my arm near the site with out a considerable amount of pain, and it's just lumpy looking. I have no idea if any of this is normal and wa hoping someone could key me in. I am also ver…

Hello all! I'm 27, mother of one, been married 6 1/2 years and am morbidly obese. After an incident in the hospital in June I decided that I needed to make changes. I was too scared to do the bypass and felt that the lap band didn't work well, so I decided I wanted to research the sleeve. I found it to be very promising, and am scheduled for the 27th! I'm excited, nervous, and happy, etc all at once!! I can't wait!! Thanks!

Hi I'm ArtistNic and I am new to this site and had the Gastric Sleeve surgery 4 days ago. I have sleep Apnea, High Bloodpressure, and was diagnosed Diabetic two years ago, but only stayed in the diabetic range for 3 months because I had started Medifast. I had lost 90 lbs in 5 months on MF and was feeling great. I was about half way to my goal and got complacent. I maintained it for a year and a half and was having trouble refocusing because I never felt good... I had been struggling with pain in my bladder. I had been to all sorts of doctors and I had a hard time describing what was wrong with me. I had pain, frequency issues, and difficulty emptying. After abou…

I am on day 13 of my pre-op diet. In 2 more days I will be on the sleeved side. What is even more surprising my husband has finally accepted that fact. So as a surprise for me he wants to take me up the Mount Washington Auto Road (in New Hampshire) tomorrow Morning to watch the sunrise. He asked me to look it up to see what time the auto road opens. Much to my dismay it doesn't open until 7:30 am, well after sunrise. Keep in mind that photography is my new found hobby. I was disappointed. But then...........The luck of a life time. I noticed at the bottom of the Mt. Washington web page, they have Early morning sunrise openings 3 times a year. The last one this y…

This is my first time posting an original thread, so please be gentle! I keep looking on the forums for a conversation discussing long-term issues with the sleeve. I'm not finding much beyond the first couple of years, which I kind of suspected since it's such a new procedure. I also tried looking for research articles discussing gastrectomy issues long term, but of course the only other reason they usually do a gastrectomy is for stomach cancer so those studies don't go beyond 5 years either since it is considered an accomplishment to make it 5 years in those cases. To get to my point here, I have this fear about the surgery as it gets closer and more real. I initiall…

Okay, I'm doing this. I'm really doing this. I'm going to have the surgery, I'm going to do my pre-op liquid diet and put my life into the doctors' hands. I'm ready. I really am. But, why is it the post-op stuff bringing me down? I'm now worried about continuing with the liquid diet for what seems like a long time, the wounds, the new changes in eating. Even the "chew your food 25 times before swallowing." I tried that today and I couldn't get past 20 before it was pretty much non-existant. I guess that's the point...but, is it really hard to follow up with post-op restrictions? Also, we have a Disney trip planned about 2-3 weeks after my surgery. Walking is …

So my plan was not to tell mom until closer to surgery but today I just felt like I needed to tell her. My SIL had the lapband 2 yrs ago and my mom was so judgmental of her I was afraid of the same thing towards me. I started by letting her know I wanted her support even if she didn't agree. When I finally told her she asked if it was the lapband right away. I told her no and began to explain to her but my daughters nose began to bleed. After that it didn't come up at all I wasn't sure what she was thinking. Later she just kinda blurted out what I had decided and why couldn't I just go to the gym. I said it wasn't about that anymore. That it would be sometime in Feb…

As a child, there are certain things that you should not be made aware of. The first time I was made aware that I was overweight was when I was maybe 10 years old. I was 103 lbs. My pediatrician at that time told me mother that I was 13 lbs overweight. She did not provide and instructions, plan or support on how to achieve that goal. Now at 38 years old and I weigh 280 lbs., (NOT GOOD @ ALL!) So it is safe to say, I have struggled with weight my whole life. I have tried so many different diet plans. Slimfast, Metabolife, Weightwatchers, to name a few. Yes, I had some success with all every program. The weight came back. As a child, I was always reminded that I was “…

I am in the process of waiting on approval for the sleeve surgery. I am also going on a family cruise October 25th to the Bahamas. I have been told I can have the sleeve surgery in September most likely middle of September. I will be post op surgery 5 or 6 week by the time I go on my cruise. Or should I wait till after the cruise. My question is should I have surgery before or after the cruise? I will be on soft foods during the cruise.
