Little background about myself: 24 years old 5'7" Largest weight 285 Smallest weight in past 7 years 221. Couldn't keep off any weight I would lose. Would start to gain it back and then some. Last weigh in with the doctor (over two weeks ago) 264 Today's weight 254 (liquid diet before surgery, did not lose 10 pounds in 5 days!) I've actually thought about bariatric surgery for quite sometime. I never went through with it because I had a boyfriend for seven years that insisted that I shouldn't. Finally after we broke up the first thing I wanted to do was call the doctors and find out more. My first appointment with my regular doctor was February 28, 2013. My…

On July 30, 2013 I had the gastric sleeve and began a whole new chapter in my life. I started this journey in January of 2013 & after a couple of setbacks...it finally happened. I cannot lie, I asked aloud on days 1, 2 & 3 as well as 5 & 6 "Why did I do this to myself?" Between pain, vomiting the liquid pain meds & low grade fever I was certain I had made a horrible mistake. Fortunately my baby sister, having had her GS performed in May, was encouraging and motivating. She advised me daily the first couple of weeks were the worst and throughout time it would get easier. She is 90+ pounds lighter and kept saying, "Keep your eyes on the prize!" Here …

I am 1 week into my pre op diet and I have to admit, it has been tough. I also admit I had a couple of slices of smoked turkey lunchmeat (a protein) and a couple scrambled eggs. Hopefully that will be the end. So, my question is, who else cheated and did it cause any issues for your surgery?

Has anyone filled out any paperwork In MX Florence hospital regarding NO BLOOD POLICY? No need to comment if you haven't. I asked Alma at Ready4aChange if they have this type of paperwork and she said yes. Just wondering if anyone has ACTUALLY filled it out.

Hello everyone! I have been checking out this site for a few weeks and figured it was time I introduced myself. My name is Melissa (41, 252 lbs, 5'1") and I've been overweight/obese most of my life. You know, it's kind of weird - I remember my 5th grade class picture and I was little and cute. Everything from there on out through middle school I have vague memories of some crap happening then but now I just remember putting on the pounds. I graduated high school at 160 and well, just never really stopped. My mom passes away out of the blue one day of sudden cardiac death and when then happened it really shook me to my core. After that happened I, in no particular…

I am going to be Sleeved Sept. 9th. I have been told that your Taste Buds change. Things you use to like to eat, now you don't care for anymore. I find that very interesting. So tell me about your Taste Buds? Did they change at all. Or do you like things that you never before would have eaten.

My surgery is in two weeks. I'm so excited and am getting everything ready. I called my doc last month about changing my time-release meds I take every day. Of course, no response from my GP! I take Wellbutrin and Toprol and I don't know if I can take them after the surgery. They aren't that big-about the size of a regular Advil tablet. Can anyone advise me?

Is it me or is anyone else starting to hate food so to say. I think that I am not enjoying food anymore because it doesn't take much before my tummy starts to ache. Even salad is a chore for me now, 2-3 forks of salad and I'm done. My 1year old eats more than I do and forget about my 3 yr old and they all take after my husband (skinny) thank God. I never want to eat the way I used to but at least there should be space for healthy stuff like salad with tuna. I still love my sleeve to death but I just eat to live.

Anyone else, come here first to update your ticker when you've weighed in and lost weight? Just giddy........! It would have taken me years of different diets, frustration, depression to get 52 pounds off...and most likely I wouldn't have done it, I would be continually growing and not shrinking...... Who ever thought I'd be excited to get back into my *fat* jeans! I am! When I outgrew those......talk about.....depression.......but I am now back into them and I can breath and everything when I put them on! In her best Beyonce impression, "Who runs the world?!" ....."Sleevers!"

I'm just curious what people's perception is and where they see their ultimate goal. I'm 5'4" tall and started my weight loss journey at 245 lbs and a size 20. I'm currently 179 lbs and a size 14. I originally thought my goal would be about 140 but now I'm not sure. Just curious what people's goals are/were. Did you meet them or are you a work in progress still? If you met original goal did you stop there? Lose more? If you can, provide starting weight/size and then weight/size for goal or current. I think I'd like to be about a size 6/8. I don't like super skinny and don't think I'd look right being just skin and bone. Right now, I'm celebrating being labe…

Went out for my husbands birthday yesterday. Had a little bit of everything but didn't go over board. A friend of outs was there who had the Lapband done in October and she was eating like how I used to eat before surgery. She asked how I was doing and I told her the truth that its been interesting getting to learn how to eat. I had three small sliders (minus the bread), three nachos and three bites of a chicken tender. I guess I'm just confused how she can eat a WHOLE meal (steak, mashed potatoes and veggies) and I can barely eat a burger patty. Oh well. I know I should just worry about myself but its hard.

I just has my surgery August 7th and I got sent home today. I'm able to tolerate liquids and jello, I also had oatmeal today, but I'm not able to finish 2tsp of it. I'm extremely tired and run out of breath very easily. I tried walking for 10 minutes today 2x but I'm so exhausted. I just want the pain to go away. How long will I be in pain for and will I be able to take in more food? I'm not hungry at all but I can't go days without eating enough.

Hi all- I'm new here, been on a weightloss/gain journey my entire life, and ready for this to be life changing and long term. I've had major ups and downs with weight, in '08 I went to a weightloss dr in town and went from 206 to 136 in 5 months with exercise, strict food diet (from the dr), and serious determination. 3 years later I've gained it all back and weigh more then I started. Today I weigh 218. I'm waiting for insurance and have cleared all the other hoops. I'm excited to join you all here for long term better health! Summer 2007 Summer 2009 Currently- 2012

Well here goes, I got to my heaviest weight 334 and decided I need to make serious changes. I am 37 but like most I can lose weight but can't keep the weight off. I went through the year long screening and education process for insurance to cover the surgery. My surgery day was July 16, 2013. I did a 10 day liquid diet and lost 19 lbs. My surgery went smooth with very little pain and no gas pains or nausea. I worked myself up so much before the surgery I almost left the hospital without doing the surgery. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights and went home, hardest part of going home was the watching all the commercials about food and watching my kids eat. I started my so…

I am a future Mexico self pay sleever. I was originally scheduled for March 9th but had to reschedule. I got extremely sick and the doctor's could not find anything wrong. I did not want to go through surgery not knowing why I was hurting and sick. I rescheduled my surgery for July 27th. In the meantime I started thinking and worrying more and more about my daughter's weight. She is 14 and been overweight for 2 years. She is 5`3 and weighs 248. She has tried to diet and exercise but has a very hard time losing weight. The doctors can't find anything to stop her from losing medically. She is starting a new school, in a new city this year after going to the same sc…

I am new to this website and just wanted to introduce myself. I am 32 years old. My highest recorded weight was 302lbs. I have been over 250 for 10 years. I was always heavy, but learned to deal with it. I have a lot of self confidence and never let my weight stop me from doing anything, but the last two years have changed that part about me drastically. I had my son in Janurry of '12. 11 weeks later I had a nearly fatal car accident. I crushed both wrist, fractured my femur, broke my hip socket. Fractured a vertebra, nine cracked ribs, and a whole lot of bruises. After three surgeries, some plates and screws, and a blood transfusion. I was alive. I was non weight b…

My doctors office submitted all of my paperwork to my insurance on July 21. My insurance carrier said it wasn't received until the 25th. I called them on the 26th and they said that it takes 10 business days for them to review my case. I called today (the 10th business day) and I was told that my doctors office should have submitted it earlier because it can take weeks for the approval. Here is my dilemma. I just had my pre-op appointment at the hospital on Wed. August 7th. I am supposed to start my 2 week pre-op diet on August 12. My surgery is scheduled for August 26th. But my insurance is dragging its feet. I would hate to have to start the liquid diet and h…

Hi everyone I thought I should probably introduce my self as I have been following your journeys for the last month. I finally realized that if I want to continue keeping up with my three kids, 16,13 & 8 and an extremely fitness orientated husband I needed to get a grip. I have always struggled with my weight and I view my life as one big diet plan, I have been pushing my body for years and finally it's decided to push back, I just can't handle getting injured snowboarding, hiking ect... anymore. I brought up the topic to my husband expecting him to not be supportive, big surprise !! after explaining the sleeve process his question to me was " if this was what …

Hello everyone. I'm not sure if I'm posting correctly as I just discovered this app yesterday and have been glued to my iPhone reading all the posts! I'm in Australia and had my procedure 1st August! Things seem to be going well. I'm down 15 pounds. Starting weight Was 216 lbs. I've spent hours reading all the stories and I love how this provides a feeling of support as everyone else knows what I'm going through. In saying that, reading all the stories about weight not coming off, complications and how the band may fail has made me extremely paranoid and I feel it'll affect my results I'm a smoker with a heavy cough n im scared my band will slip. Im scared ill be dishear…

My subject says it all. I'm nervous and excited I have surgery scheduled in three weeks. I think the nervous part is the being put to sleep. Although I've had other surgery it's still nerve wrecking. Well I've managed to lose some weight on my own and I'm happy. Just last few days I feel sooooo hungry for no particular reason. My starting weight was 224 I'm down to 201 now and ideal is to get to 135lbs since I'm 5'4 in height. I have to admit I have had some who support me other not at all, or the few who state "you don't need that". But my health comes first. Is there anyone in the bronx, New York area? Any key advice for pre and post surgery? I have two little…

So this Friday it is. Its almost hysterical that every time i have started some new crazy diet in the past Friday began the insane time to eat with reckless abandon because Monday always marked the end of food as I knew and loved it. Well not this time, Friday will mark the end of an era for me, and I cant wait. My aunt recently got the surgery, and my cousin will be getting it two days before me, but I want to have as many people in my corner to go through this process with me. Anybody else getting sleeve 8/16? Wanna be my buddy?

I know that I'm not going to feel like going shipping for anything at least for a week. And what's the best protein drinks? Any suggestions? I had my vertical sleeve surgery on July 8th. So, now I'm three weeks Post-op and I'm frustrated with what seems like a slow recovery. My dietitian encouraged me to try the soft solid foods that are on my list, so I tried a scrambled egg on that first day and it made me so sick! I stayed sick for hours until I finally threw up and got it off my stomach. (I was so disappointed). Then the other day I ate two small meat-balls out of a can of Chef-boy-ardee, no noodles, just the meat balls, and they were plenty soft and plenty moist. (My dietitian said make sure it's soft and moist) and they made me just as sick as the egg did. I threw up several times and didn't feel better…

Hi all -- love the threads! So much good information and conversation. My name is Amanda. I'm a 37yo homeschooling mom to six kiddos, and I'm hoping to be a December sleever. Having been overweight since late childhood, I've been hoping for bariatric surgery since seeing a documentary about RNY fourteen years ago. I've not had insurance coverage for bariatric surgery before last year, and even then, it came as a surprise. I would check at the beginning of each year when we'd renew our benefits, and my husband's company would not only not cover it, they would specifically exclude it. The surgeons I'd call would tell me that exclusion would make an appeal impossibl…

I just received my band on 8/1/2013 after almost a year journey to get there. I started last November preparing for this. My insurance required a minimum 6 month doctor supervised diet among other hoops to jump through. From then until my surgery date, I lost 45 lbs. I am extremely proud of that considering I've been obese for my entire life (literally from the time I was about 6 months old). I haven't had any of the normal problems I've been reading about or seen through my family who have gotten then band (my dad, my mother in law, and 2 of my aunt in laws). The biggest problem I'm having is sticking with the mushy foods, because quite frankly, it gets old eating the sa…

Hi everyone. I have been reading threads and posts all day. This app is addicting, but incredibly helpful. I got a lot of great ideas for puréed foods... Going to ask the doctor about them tomorrow. So I decided to introduce myself like the message I got said to. I am a rule follower I guess. Back to the point... My name is Samantha. I'm a 30 year old, single, female from central Florida. I also teach high school math. The first day of summer break in my county was May 24th, and that also happens to be my surgery date. I had my sleeve done at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, FL. This is about an hour south of where I live. The drive is well worth it to …

Hello to you all!! ; ] I am getting ready to have my surgery in 3 wks. Trying to not eat everything that I will miss, as I will be starting my pre-op diet on Monday. I have decided to have my surgery in Mexico, and I hope it all goes well! I have tried to do my research, but the more I read, the more I feel I don't know. It has been very helpful so far reading all of your different post. I have read about several of the problems... hair loss, acid reflux, (i think ) drop foot and other problems due to Vitamin deficiency. Can anyone mention others that I could read up on?? Thank you all, E ; ]

Never in my life have I had food spoil since getting sleeved (6/19/13). Since I'm just eating a 1/2 cup at each meal there are plenty of left overs, food savers have plum full both the freezers , I use to be the one that ate the left overs but now I've learn to buy less and my food bill has gone down. So far I lost 65lbs and feeling pretty good about myself.

Hi, my name is Steve. I was sleeved May 20th, 2013. I was 350 lbs at my heaviest, May 2011. I managed to lose a few pounds on my own. When I started my pre-op diet on May 1st, I was 331lbs, on my surgery day I was 305lbs. I am down 61 lbs since I started my journey. I have no regrets having the surgery. Only that I didn't do it years ago. I have 2 friends that were sleeved, they are the reason I did it. I saw how well surgery went for them, and how well their weight loss was. I cant believe that the day after surgery I was walking around the block, 2 days later walking around a super market with my wife. My sister in law was also sleeved the same day, in another hospital.…

Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary since my band surgery. So I have been reflecting on the past year and some of the ups and downs. I just wanted to post a few thoughts as my first anniversary passes for those of you maybe thinking about getting the surgery or just those who are starting your journey post surgery. Ups - Lost 130 lbs- started my journey at 338 and this morning weighted 208... I am so close to ONEderland I can smell it! - Down from a size 26/28 to a size 14/16 - I have walked several 5 Ks - I have ran (not walked by actually ran which I haven't done in a LONG time) 20 mins straight and working on my first 5k - I work out atleast 3-5 times a week a…

Hi-- I'm new to this site and very thankful I found it. I'm 8 months out from sleeve surgery. I've lost a total of 80 lbs since starting the process, but only 50 lbs since the actual surgery itself. I had my surgery at St. Vincent's charity hospital in Cleveland, OH and had a fantastic experience, no problems at all. However my inner voice is killing me as of late. My original goal is 27 lbs away, yet I'm beating myself up that I haven't lost it yet, which makes me gravitate towards eating out of being depressed (what I did pre-op). I'm so fearful this is going to spiral out of control and the next thing you know I will wake up pushing 267 lbs again!

I am considering WLS and really need some straight answers from those of you that have experienced the band. I have read sooo much on both surgeries and have looked at the good , the bad, and the ugly. The sleeve has me scared because if in the next 10-20 yrs something happens to me like getting sick or cancer, I will not have a stomach to withstand treatments since it is not reversible. However I have also read that so many with the band has reverted to the sleeve because of no success. I know that both are considered a TOOL for weightloss and like all programs, if you don't work the program correctly, it won't work. So my question is to you -- do any of you regret gett…

My surgery is Tuesday (13th) and I'm down 9 lbs in less than two weeks on the pre op diet. That would be 18 lbs a month (if I could maintain that rate) and I only need to lose 135 lbs!! Won't take me long ... right? I'm starting to wonder why I'm having surgery if I can lose weight on my own!! Then I remind myself that I can't (or wouldn't) stay on this diet ~ if I wasn't having surgery. This weight loss is not sustainable - for me anyway. Once I start to eat normal again I'll gain any weight loss right back. I know me - I need the help for the long haul. What bugs me is that the diet is so much less food than I'm used to eating daily and I've ONLY loss 9 lb…

Hi everyone, I received my band only a few days ago on August 6th in Tasmania. I've been browsing here and have found some really helpful info and just wanted to reach out and say hi. I look forward to sharing my success as well as hearing about yours. The worst part for me is the gas pain. It was mainly in my shoulder but now is also under my left ribs. But.. I know that'll pass soon enough so I'm moving forward one day at a time.
