Any advice, encouragement or hope will be appreciated

I had my vertical sleeve surgery on July 8th. So, now I'm three weeks Post-op and I'm frustrated with what seems like a slow recovery. My dietitian encouraged me to try the soft solid foods that are on my list, so I tried a scrambled egg on that first day and it made me so sick! I stayed sick for hours until I finally threw up and got it off my stomach. (I was so disappointed). Then the other day I ate two small meat-balls out of a can of Chef-boy-ardee, no noodles, just the meat balls, and they were plenty soft and plenty moist. (My dietitian said make sure it's soft and moist) and they made me just as sick as the egg did. I threw up several times and didn't feel better until it was off my stomach. I never would digest. I'm frustrated with my attempts at solid food, and I'm thinking of just going back to liquids for a while. I can eat a few things ok, like cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna (sometimes) and watermelon. In addition to this frustration, I've been feeling very weak, tired, lethargic, spaced out and sometimes dizzy. I'm trying to figure out if this is a sign of dehydration or lack of protein. Because I KNOW I'm not getting nearly enough fluids and not nearly enough protein. When I drink something it makes me nauseated and I just can't stand it. And I'm so sick of the protein shakes that they almost make me gag. Does anyone have any advice? BUT The good news is ... I've lost 46 pounds in 5 weeks (including the two-week-pre-op-liquid diet). Thanks, Tanya

Tanya2244, have you tried drinking diet fruit juice? Welches has a good peach juice and I also like cranberry lemonade. Baby food might stay down easier because its smooth ( other foods are bumpy and may irritate your stomach) and its nutritious. I had the beef in gravy and the chicken in gravy. Also carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, and peas. At first I could only eat 1/2of each jar. Then I could one jar meat and one jar veg. Hang in there!

Sheilarae; Thank you for the advice about the baby food. I'll give that a try. I think what I'm so discouraged about is my current limited menu. I've been living on soup, jello, yogurt, cheese, watermelon and cantaloupe. Today I was brave and tried something new ... It was a plum. It was on my list of allowed foods, and of course I pealed it first. It went down really well and I feel just fine tonight. I am very tired though, but I did a LOT of walking today. I took my daughter shopping in the mall for back to school stuff. I wore good tennis shoes, but I still had to sit down every once in a while. So, I guess I did ok today. Thank you for your encouragement and friendship. Have a good night.

Tanya I so feel for you! I was sleeved on 6/19/13... I still can not tolerate most meats. About 5 weeks after surgery I had complete regret for one day. That is all I allowed myself. I got online, found high protein options and started to test new foods out. I found a sugar free custard that really boosted my protein intake! Then went on to try other varieties. Pumpkin custard. Apple custard. All sugar free. I use premiere chocolate protein shakes and absolutely force myself to sip throughout the day. Egg salad with low fat mayo ( I can not tolerate scrambled eggs, vomit every time). There is so much you can tolerate! You just have to take the time for yourself and find what they are! Good luck, hope to keep in touch, your story sounds like mine.

The custards sound good. I'm not liking solid food very much. I'd rather eat yogurt or cottage cheese. I have a pumpkin pudding I like...1 can pumpkin, 1 can evaporated skim milk, 1 small box sugar-free butterscotch pudding and then cinnamon to taste. Just mix it up. I was going to try it with vanilla protein drink but haven't yet.
