My name is Jerry. I was banded on 3/20/03 by Dr Mark Pleatman at the North Oakland Medical Center in Pontiac Michigan. My highest weight was in January of 2001 and I weighed 390 lbs. At that time I went on a diet and lost about 50 lbs. Slowly but surely I was regaining. In January of 2003 , at a weight of 355 lbs, my PCP asked me to investigate a strange new device called an "Adjustable Gastric Band". I had always been opposed to the drastic internal changes required of other weight loss surgeries, and would never consider them. The minimaly invasive, and totally reversible nature of the lap band intrigued me, and I started my research. Well the rest is history. …

Hello everyone, I'm Amy, 33, banded July 11, 2003 with Dr. Ortiz. I'm usually a lurker and don't post much, but just thought I would say hello and hope that this site provides lots of inforamtion for all of us. I live in Henderson NV, right outside Las Vegas. With the current heat, it allows me lots of time on the computer. I made the decision to get lap band after several unsuccessful attempts to lose weight. I saw first hand how my life would be through the eyes of my obese mother and father. I just didn't want to spend the greater portion of my adult life with high blood presssure, high cholesterol, bad knees, back ect. I'm looking to a bright future with the extra p…

Hi Everybody- My name is Shannon. I am 30 years old. I had my lap band surgery on July 12, 2002. I just had my one year anniversary. I started out at a weight of 306, and to date I have lost 75 lbs. The weight loss has slowed considerably over the past 2-3 months, but most of that is probably my fault. I have a new very stressful job. I also have the greatest guy in my life so I am not exactly doing all of the things I used to. I don't have as much time to go to the gym and I'm not being as careful with what I put in my mouth. I will definitely get back on track soon! I also had a minor setback a fewmonths ago. I was very sick, couldn't even keep water down so…

Hi, I am Jeanette, I live in the Oklahoma panhandle. I am an Australian who met my husband online, and we've been happily married for 5 years now. We own the 8 screen movie theatre in town, which keeps us really busy! I have been researching the band since December and then joined the Oklabandsters board in January. I have received invaluable help there, and I am sure I will here as well. Thanks Alex, for doing this! I am scheduled for surgery on August 5th, so only two weeks away now! I am going to be banded by Dr Sanchez in Monterrey, Mexico. I am actually more worried about the flying down there and organising things at work before I leave, than I am about the surg…

Obviously, my name is Sara and I hail from the great state of Texas, Dallas to be exact. I first began contemplating WLS about three years ago when a trusted friend from church suggested it to me. (She had a bypass several years ago) I dismissed the idea at the time because I thought the idea of surgery was too drastic and was the "easy way out". I began to seriously consider last year after my cousin had the RNY and lost a lot of weight. I could see that it was not the easy way out and I realized that I simply couldn't lost the weight on my own. However, I was still not convinced that RNY was the answer. I began researching surgery on obesityhelp.com and discovered the L…

I'm Leigh, and was banded on January 29,2003 by Dr. Carroll in Jackson, MS. I can't tell you how this band has made a difference in my life----well, I guess I don't have to anyway, because you all KNOW how it changes your lives! I've done well so far, losing 101 pounds by my 5 month anniversary. I started at 367, and having more to lose generally means I lose faster--AT FIRST! I'm quickly approaching my 6 month anniversary, though, and have only lost 2 pounds this month. Talk about slowing down!!!! I haven't had a fill yet, but if the weight loss doesn't start picking back up by my dr appt in August, I'm gonna get one. I CAN'T let myself fail at this! I still have…

My name is Martha, I am 31 yrs. old I have always battled with my weight. I was willing to do anything even the other types of surgeries, luckly my husband heard of the band and gave me tons of info on it, so I began looking up info talking to my doctor about and decided to go for it. I am scheduled for my ban september 22 in Monterry Mex. with Dr. Rumbout. I am a little nervous, (will it work for me, will it hurt, can I keep it up) but I am optimistic, it has worked for many the way I see it has to work for me. Wish me luck. Martha
