I was banded by dr. Kuri in Tijuana. Everything I read about him was accurate! A well skilled surgeon with over 5500 surgeries performed. He does not overload himself with patients and will come to visit you after surgery to check on you and release you. This does not happen in Canada! The facility was top notch and everyone who was associated with dr. Kuri (nurses, other surgeons, drivers, hotel staff) all make you fully aware that they are there to assist you and help you. It was most bizarre to be honest. It's like they truly care. Tijuana is not the town I remember it to be nd was scared to go back. Tijuana has grown into a beautiful city. However, there are stil…

I used Dr. Garcia in Tijuana and it was a great experience. Pre-surgery weight was 352. I lost 22lbs during my pre-op diet. I'm down to 310lbs eleven days post-op. So far it has been a great experience. I had no gas pain, very little surgical pain and my mind isn't messing with me yet. This seems to be a great community of sharing ideas and seeking support.

Hi! My name is Dawn and I'm 42yo. I had gastric bypass in 6/25/2013. First 2 weeks was tolerable but on the day of 3weeks post op I ended up in the hospital for 6 days due to a pleural effusion which I then had to have a chest tube for 5 days. Since then I stay N/V. My dr did an EGD this past Tuesday where he had to dilate the stricter. He said that is what was causing me N/V. But it's Friday and am nauseous as ever. I've lost like 38-41 lb. but everything makes me ill, even the smell of food. Is this normal? How do I get over this? I have even considered reversal if that were an option. I'm not use to being down/ill. I'm always taking care of others. Please someone h…

For the last 10 years, I've been on the hot side, daring my husband to turn on the furnace in the winter and freezing out my secretary at work. Since VSG, my how the table has turned! Here in the tropics with the air turned to "meat locker," I actually have to keep a sweater on the back of my chair at work and wrap up in it when I start to shiver. Paybacks HAVE been hell. Am I the only one?

Im super excited for the future. Started my lap band journey on July 18th by going to my first seminar but didnt have my consultation till the 25th! Omg everyone in the office was so nice. Idk I felt kind of ashamed being there and when they took my weight I cringed!, but them realized umm duhh this place is for weight loss. I guess I was more upset I let it get this far. My weight 268 with a height of 5'2. IDK how everyone elses consult went but I met with the insurance coordinator, dietician, the Surgeon, The coordinator or surgery. They told me everything I needed to do. So this whole month of august is testing and more testing. Surgery scheduled for Octobe…

Getting sleeved Monday morning!! Excited and nervous at the same time. I am doing 7 days pre-op liquids and am drinking 4 Bariessential shakes a day. I have been getting things together for post-op and have tried MANY Protein shake samples. My favorites so far have been Celebrate ENS and whey Natural! USA. I have not seen much here about Whey Natural! USA and (IMO) it is by far the best tasting. Does anyone have experience with Whey Natural! USA?? Here is a link: http://www.wheynaturalusa.com/store/p/48-Natural-STRAWBERY-2-5-lb-38-Servings-FREE-SHIPPING.aspx Thanks !!!

I'm a 37 year old female who has been diagnosed with depression, fybromyalgia, and Rhumetoid Arthritis. I was on a ton of medicine trying to control the pain and different meds. To control the depression, I weighed 130 lbs before I got severely sick. After taking all of these different pills I gained a ton of weight I was now up to 285 lbs in a matter of 8 months. My doctor was trying to figure out a diet for me,to,go on because I couldn't walk my legs would swell horribly I couldn't sleep or,do anything for that matter due to the pain I was in so I had brought up to him about the sleeve, and he said ok we can try this (since I went on over five diets that did nothing) I …

So I just put on a pair of my capri's. Usually after I wash and dry them I have to struggle to get the on until they stretch out. Today they just slid right on. No effort at all. I didn't have to fight. I weighed myself today on my home scale and I am down 31 pounds. It fluctuates about 5 pounds through out the day. And as long as I'm under 460 I'm happy. That's 24 pounds down. Now I'm going to fight to get these last few pounds off so I can get my second appointment!! My appointment weight is 450. Thanks for listening. I really don't have anyone around me that cares to hear my looser stories.

I am 3 weeks post surgery and feel like I can eat more than I should...certainly more than I expected. As an example, I just had mashed potatoes for lunch with some 'crisp bread'. I ate around a cup of mashed potatoes and then 2 of the crisp bread wafers. I'm full but not sick. Anyone else experience this ability to eat after surgery? I'm really nervous about what this means to my ability to lose and keep weight off.

I was banded on July 24, 2013. I am so glad this support is here because it makes it so much easier. So far, including the pre-op diet I am down 26 lbs. My only complaint is the bloated feeling and I know I need to be patient. I am truly thankful to be a part of this community and to have begun my journey!

Hello everyone! I am new here. I am a 36 year old female, living in upstate NY with my wonderful husband and two teenage daughters. I began my journey in early January 2012 and I am scheduled to have RNY August 15th. I have BCBS Excellus and will have all mandatory appointments completed August 2nd and then off for final approval. I am a little nervous but it sounds like as long as I have followed guidelines and completed necessary appointments I should be approved. I look forward to meeting many of you on this site. It looks like a wonderful resource. Have a great week!!

Okay so I am 3 weeks out (almost). I went back to work 5 days after surgery (desk job). I have cooked my family dinner every night since day 3 and we have eaten as a family. No one knows about my surgery except my husband. My kids just think I was sick for a few days and then went on a 3 week cleanse right after. They have noticed I am not eating much at one time but they haven't thought much about it. My husband helped me grocery shop the first two weeks. I went alone today. I am averaging 6k to 10k on my fitbit without added exercise. On the long days my incisions do get a little sore. I can't wait for purée I have been on liquid almost 3 weeks now. I really don't …

Can anyone share with me how they found out they had a stricture, what kind if testing the surgeon did, how quickly they fixed it and how they fixed it. Is it another hospital stay? I know that's a lot of questions but I am pretty sure I have one and my surgeon situation is complicated. Surgery was 7/1 and everything has been going perfect until yesterday. Now I can't even get down fluids.

I don't know when I'm going to resist the urge to eat ice-cream knowing what it did to me the first time I ate it after surgery. The first time I had ice cream which was a month after surgery, I vomited the whole ice cream half way thru. Today, almost a month later, I had to try another ice cream and I still feel like something is stuck in my throat. When am I going to learn my lesson and stop eating ice cream? After all it's empty calories and I am doing so so good. I'm going to stop, I have to stop.

I started my journey at my highest 389lbs and the day of my surgery I was 359lbs today I weighed in at 230lbs... Doing the math I lost 129 in 1 year. But 159lbs total. I am so grateful for the support all my new opportunities. Still truckin for my bday challenge/goal to weigh in at 200lbs. Top home from hospital 3 days post Bottom last month

Hey Guys, I am Kari and I am 20 years old. I had my sleeve surgery on July 2, 2013. I was released from the hospital on July 4th. The first day was pretty much a blur. I was so SCHWASTED on the IV pain medications. I literally fell asleep while walking the first night after surgery. Lol The first few days were the hardest. The pain was pretty tolerable. Infact I was off my pain meds after the second day home so 4 days post op My pain was pretty much gone. The detoxing from the food was really what made the first few days hard. I had random crying spells because I missed food. I would wake up in the morning and cry because I couldn't just go to the fridge and stu…

Hi, my name is Sonia & I'm a 38 year old mother of 2 living in Central, NJ. I was sleeved on 7/22/13 by Dr. Montes of NJ Bariatric Center in Springfield NJ. I was very nervous & wondered if I made the right decision. I even asked God that if this was not for me, please do not let the insurance give the approval. I got my confirmation that I the right thing at my post surgical follow-up. They found Mesothelomia in my stomach lining. Thank god it was benign but regardless I would have had to cut it out. This way I was prepared for losing part of my stomach & never had the worry of finding out if it was cancerous or not. When I found out biopsy results were alrea…

I just wanted to say that I think Dr. Schram is an amazing surgeon and if you are considering the sleeve and you live on the west side of Michigan consider him. He is prompt, responsive, kind and professional. He prayed with me before surgery and followed up with me twice a day each day I was in the hospital. He definitely supported me going home when I felt ready which is a nice change from other surgeries I've had where it seemed they couldn't get you out fast enough. Himself and the PA both reassured me that if I need anything any hour of the day just to give them a call. The hospital itself was nice, newer in construction with a great complement of staff. The woman …

Hello everyone. I've been cruising around this wonderful website for about a month now. I was banded on July 2nd and couldn't be happier. I've battled my weight all of my life. I was put on a diet when I was in the 5th grade and I think I've been on every crazy diet since then. From shots to pills. Finally at age 47 I decided to change my life. I'm 35 pounds lighter now. I have a ways to go but I am off to a great start. I look forward to seeing everyone's progress and reading all of the great advice. I know my band is a tool and it's up to me to make it work. This is the beginning of my new journey and the new me. I am very thankful that my family, friends and my doctor…

I have had my lap band for 3 1/2 years now. I am very happy with my weight loss of 120 lbs and have maintained it. I started having trouble keeping food down about a month ago. I don't know if I am still eating too fast of too much. It is a hard habit to break. My doctor loosened my band, but I am still having trouble. I have this annoy feeling that there is something in my throat and discomfort. It hurts but not real bad pain. Is this the symptom of a slipped band? harleymin13

MONDAY: 7/29/2013 I just arrived in Tiajuana and am thrilled to be here. I only came from Houston (3 hr flight) and do a lot of traveling so I'm rather adept at traveling on my own, but I did want to share my experiences for those of you who might be wondering what it's like. Arrival in San Diego was a breeze and I got a phone call from my driver, Eduardo, while I was waiting for my luggage. He spotted me through the crowd and came over, introduced himself, and helped me with my luggage. He was a very pleasant man and willing to answer questions that I asked. We then moved to another terminal to pick up a second passenger from Calgary, Canada. Her surgery is scheduled…

So I am 4 days post op and they said I had a huge hiatal hernia which caused a lot of air in my chest and my left shoulder. It will not go away and I can not burp either. Today was the first day to go on full liquids and I was full very quickly, so that I liked. Has anyone else had this shoulder problem?? Also looking for a group or someone to talk with along this life journey!!

I know I'm in the beginning but I have a lot of questions and when I do get it done I know I'm gonna need a support group. I want to know about what kind of test you guys had how long was your stay and so on...anything to make me feel better. I'm from new new jersey and I'm getting my surgery done at cooper hospital so if anyone has experienced surgery there let me know thanks.
