I went into Mercy hospital Rockville center long island on Monday 8/5th . They took me set me up in a bed and waited. Was a little nervous. Saw the one who knocks me out saw the dr. Ready to roll. Woke up in pain. They gave me a button to press that releases medicine (morphine) and while still half out I heard them say how many times did she press the button within 1 hr. I heard the lady say 18. 18?? Don't you think you should give her more if she pressed it 18 times. They did and finally much better. 2 hours later they put me in a room with a nurse who made no conversation. She put on the leg compressors and left me for a few hrs. When a new nurse came in she said the co…

I am certain I need this surgery. I am certain that I am going to get this surgery. I am certain I will be healthier in critical ways after this surgery. But I am not at all certain that I will be happier after this surgery. My name is Dee, but if you call me Devichan I'll answer. I've used it as a nickname for years. I'm 41 years old, a mother of two (ages 16 and 7), poly, married, pagan, geeky, techie woman. I love my smile, my eyes, and my curves. I love to knit, play roleplaying games, watch football, and geek about Doctor Who (sometimes all at the same time!) I'm owned by three cats (Echo, a tuxedo female, and tortoiseshell littermates River and Kaylee), all of who…

Well, just came from my PCP's office and I am a fuming!!! He just informed me that he considers my weight loss surgery a miserable failure and he's not going to recommend it to anyone else. I've been hovering between 216/217 For the last few days. Well, I didn't take my normal water pill that I take daily because I don't like to take it until 'm home and near the bathroom. Anyhow, I weighed 220 on his scale this morning which of course I was upset over as well. I was OK until he called me a failure at this WLS and he also said it's ridiculous if you have to keep going for fills and you're still not losing fast enough. Well, I had enough of his negative talk and blasted b…

Hello! I am new here and hope to be able to use this group as a great place for advice! The whole process is moving pretty fast for me, I met with the surgeon in mid-July and since I am self pay they were able to fast track all of my tests/appointments. I still have to attend two support group meetings, which will be done by August 20th and I hope to have my surgery in September! My main motivation for doing the surgery is to hopefully relive my chronic migraines...I have had migraines daily for about 4.5 years now and just want some relief! Anyone else with migraines...if so, did you get relief after surgery???

I've been reading the boards and read something about cheating on diets. I thought that once you have the band you can't eat more then 1/2 to 1cup. How can someone overeat? And, if someone overeats are you stretching out your stomach again? If you overstretch your stomach is going on a liquid diet for a couple days and soft foods for couple days going to shrink the stomach back up? I'm getting this done so that I don't go back to my old habits of overeating again. I didn't realize you can go back to your old habits.

I started my new journey on May 13, 2013 weighting my highest weight ever 244 lbs and 5'2 inches. I had my sleeve done on June 12, 2013 and I must admit at first I felt like what the heck did I do because I could not eat the way i use to. Now, I would not trade it for the world!!!! Today at weigh in I was 199.6 lbs and I feel like I'm floating on air I am just soooooo EXCITED. At first I could not see it for a long time, then my sweet daughter asked to take my picture this mornind and I actually see the difference. I am truly rocking my SLEEVE!!!!! I am very new to blogging and just downloaded this app today. I am having a revision of my realize band to the gastric sleeve. I am Very interested in the conversations and the information we all can share. Currently I still have my lap band It was placed October 21, 2008 And am expecting to have it revised hopefully within a month or less. I got an EGD done to take pictures to find out about my constant nausea vomiting and sliming . It showed my stomach was perfectly fine everything like that no problems except for a few ulcers. It turned out to be The esophagitis and H. pylori And so I started the course of treatment and had my band completely unfilled the same tim…

This is Sandras daughter, Haley. I thought I'd inform everyone on her surgery. She just got out, everything went well. Because of her scar tissue from her appendix surgery, it was ripped all over the place and it was hard for them to see the stomach. They did have to cut her open instead of putting 4 holes. It was suppose to take 2 hours, but it took 7 hours. Continue to pray for her. She will get out of here either Saturday, maybe Monday. Thank you, Haley

Hi I am Patty, age 55, 3 grown kids, 2 grandchildren. 5+ years colon cancer free (yeah yeah), severe sleep apnea, diabetics and a personal loathing of my body - led me down the path for about a 7 month pre-op period to my destination of July 25. 2013 when I was sleeved. Literally went all the way through the process, out for the surgery, without any guarantees they could even do it due to scar tissue from colon cancer surgeries. I just knew I had to do everything in my power to get there, even if the outcome was not good. I woke up on the other side, not only sleeved, but they were able to do it laprascopically, scar tissue was more south and everything was wonderfu…

Hello all, its been awhile since I posted anything, summer comes, everyone is busier, etc. But also another thing-depression is back and worse than ever. Quite awhile ago I had posted on this same topic. I had been seeing a great psychiatrist for depression and anxiety for about 3 years prior to my surgery, and everything was very well controlled and he was in favor of me having my gastric bypass surgery. After the surgery, I made the mistake of deciding I was in such a good place, losing weight, feeling great about everything. I decided to stop seeing my doctor and gradually wean off the meds I had been on for years. BIG mistake on my part, which I can readily admit now.…

I love myself again, that's as plain and simple as I can say it! August 2nd was my 1 year mark and I am down 138 pounds as of this morning. LIFE IS GOOD! I'd like to lose another 40-50 pounds to really get the results I want. The sleeve was the tool I needed so desparately and it has worked just as I hoped it would. I got my life back. I got me back. I am happy again. I am full of life again. There are SOOO many positive things to list. I couldn't even fathom that I would be this happy a year ago. Yea, I thought I'd lose weight, but in the back of all our minds we are still self-doubting, self-sabotaging, etc., etc., etc. but I really didn't think I would end …

Hi guys. I am new here but I would like to ask how you chose the sleeve and what your experience has been? I had my first appointment with my surgeon today and the surgery is scheduled for sept 10. However, I went there thinking I was going to get the lap band and my Surgeon said he would do it but he would prefer the sleeve. Any information/advice you could give would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to hearing from you.

I recently joined this site and was horribly depressed. I listened to those who responded and prayed about it and decided to start off with the basics. I began full liquids today. I have stayed focused taking in my protein drinks AND vitamins. I went to the store and bought easy to go shakes and products so it is convenient with my work schedule. I will weigh tomorrow because I was short on time, but I feel great and focused . I want to thank everyone for support ! I am also going to call my surgeon and set up that APPOINTMENT! Thanks! I will keep up informed on how I am doing

How long did you wait to eat fruit and/or veggies? I'm afraid to eat both. I guess cause I don't know how my new stomach will take it.

I have always been heavy. I was a closet eater, a binger & a boredom eater. I had reached 350 pounds and I had accepted I would be morbidly obese for the rest of my life. One day my dad asked me if I'd be interested in weight loss surgery. We went to the seminar and scheduled a consultation. I had my surgery 11/21/12 at only 19 years old. My highest weight was 350 pounds. I am currently 180 pounds. I feel better than ever and hope to be inspiration to people who feel there is no hope for a healthy life.

I am new here, checking everything out and have come for the support. I've been in weight watchers for years and found the support helpful and uplifting. I am hoping to find similar support here. I do not want to continue going to weight watchers as it is at work and I don't want to talk about my lapband all the time there as I lose weight and they want to promote their plan. Their plan has worked for me in the past, and I'm sure it would again, but I'm on a timeclock in order to get back surgery before I do permanent damage to myself. I am keeping my online tools though, for the recipes, the articles and such...at least until I am comfortable letting that part of my…

Well, everything is starting to feel real, all the tests done, meetings done and tomorrow I start my 2 week preop diet. I actually started drinking some shakes last week for breakfast each morning. Tomorrow though, it starts for real and I couldn't be more excited about it! 2 weeks from today I will have my surgery and can't wait! I am definately looking forward to my new life and all it has to offer! Then, 3 weeks after mine, my wife will be having hers. That makes it even better!!

I've never been nervous about a surgery before, but I'm freaking out a little about this one. Don't know why. Maybe because such a massive change goes along with it. Maybe because my stress level was thru the roof because of a close friend that flipped out over me having it yesterday. Maybe cuz I just don't feel well having been on this pre op diet. Whatever the reason, prayers please for calm and for everything to go safely and smoothly.

And so it begins. Noticed increasing hair loss in last few days and today BIG lots going down the plug... Am I sad? Yup, I love my hair. Am I going to freak out? Nope. Knew it was likely, irrespective of what protein/vitamins/biotin/water I have taken since the surgery. I suppose that as there's no such thing as a free lunch, there's always a price to pay for something that is working for me as well as my sleeve is. Have lost hair before when taking a chemo drug (although hope not to lose my eyelashes this time!), so been here before and hair recovered. Like everything in life, this too will pass... So as I watched the hair swirl away this morning, I thanked it for ma…

Hello everyone. I had my lap band done on July 30th at the Maple Surgical Centre. I paid for all the costs and it was the best investment I've made in my life because I chose the right place. It took about three hours and I was out walking. I had some pain for the first two days and now the pain is very slight now and soon it will disappear. In the first meeting with Shannon, I was 289 pounds. Today, I am 262 pounds. Thank you Dr. John Bracken,

I decided to get weightloss surgery after being over 250 lbs for 5 years with several failed diet attempts. I had hypertension, GERD, and fertility issues. I started off weighing 285. By the time I had surgery I was down to 268 lbs from my pre-surgery diet. Had my 4cc lapband done on 5/17/2006 in Omaha, NE. First fill 6/2006. .5 cc. Lost 30 lbs. by 6/2006. Got pregnant 7/2006. Yay fertility issue solved....faster than I had planned....but yay!! Had my son 3/2007. 228 lbs. postpartum. Had second fill done 6/2007. 1cc. Got pregnant AGAIN 11/2007. Um fertility issue solved...yay? Another baby? Really? Ok. Had to empty band this time due to complications. Moved to Texas 2/…

Hello! I am new to this site , but I need some help... I had the sleeve surgery in December 2010. I did great lost over 100 pounds. My work is so busy, so I eat fast. I can eat anything. I would have some reflux but now I could probably eat a whole small pizza. I exercise but I have become very depressed. I feel I messed up my surgery. I know when I drank liquids I did great it was when I introduced solid foods that my weight changed. I am up 50 pounds. I am a mess. I am not giving up though. I was afraid to go back to my dr because I did not want to disappoint. I know when I had my initial upper GI they had to use dye. I felt great until I had my hysterectomy. Well anyw…
