My name is Tamie and I was banded in July 2009, I had to have my port replaced in nov 2011 due to a leaky port. I had lost 100 then gained back 50 in that time. Now today I am down 106 lbs I feel great and eat like we are suppose to eat, small portions of anything. I make sure to eat healthy and every now and then I can have a treat. The key is proportions, I still take a lot of different foods for my lunch so I can have variety and this keeps me from straying to bad food. They make a dark chocolate granola that fills my cravings. I still eat on a small plate and my stomach does not like some foods any more but that's ok it just means I don't need them ( bread, tortillas)…

I am in the process of debating the pros and cons of two surgeons - Dr. Nicholson in Dallas and Dr. Houston in Nashville. I live just outside of Nashville so it seems like the logical choice would be to go with Dr. Houston. But, since I'm going the self-pay route, I have to factor price in my decision. Here's my pros and cons list thus far: Nicholson Pros Great reputation, including bedside manner Price $12,200 Pretty much guaranteed I could get in for surgery in December Cons Won't get to meet him or have pre-op work done until day before surgery Have to travel almost 11 hours - kinda worried about that on the ride home If post-op complications pop up, I a…

I am writing this post in the hopes that I help others really understand what life with the band is like. I was part of the Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band clinical trial in October, 2003. I thought I was doing a great service for the medical community, as well as hoping that I might help others that have battled with their weight find an effective treatment. From the get-go, the band was a major pain in the arse. My fills had to be done by the surgeon under floroscopy because of the study, so I got to see lots of images of my stomach. My port was very hard to find as it had flipped and tilted upwards. I had my port moved once, and after that, we decided we would j…

I just recently had the LGS, April 29,2013 and I actually am a week today post opt and I feel great. I feel that the sleeve was the best option for my self considering I'm trying to choose a better and healthier life style not only for my self but also my 3 children. I've been obese for 5 years and I felt that all my attempts didn't get me where I wanted nor needed. Now here I am happy as can be on my way to where I'm happy with my health. I have hypertension, as well as sleep apnea, and was border line diabetic with high cholesterol. I also was morbid obese, after 3 children it was time for a change. I'm now on my way to a new happier healthier life with my family right …

Hello my fellow post sleevers, can your protein beat mine? i am trying to figure out the best protein drink out there. My nutritionist told me to always get the protein drink with the most protein content and the least fat and sugar content. I am using the whey protein by body fortress with 30g of protein per scoop and 2.5g fat, 2g sugar, 170calories. I tried the premier protein drink and it was nasty. I was wondering if anyone else can beat this whey protein considering the contents. I'm looking for the most grams of protein. Thanks

Hello all! I'm 32 mother of one! Weight has always been my obstacle however I have always been able to control it with diet and excercise. After having my son I am unable to lose the weight I put on --- I'm still 40 lbs heavy from before I got pregnant and 60 lbs away from my goal weight. I recently saw a specialist who said I was an ideal candidate for gastric bypass --- I weigh 195 and am 5'1" --- I have no health issues except the weight I carry -- looking dr someone in a similar body weight and height who has gone through this!!!

I would rather NOT eat a thing than to have to live through these horrid runny bowels that this protein shake is giving me...OMG (sorry TMI)!! I think I'm going to get some gateraid and broth because I cannot take another minute of this. What did you drink during your pre-op diet that made it easier? Funny thing is I'm not even hungry I just want to make sure I'm putting something in my stomach.

Hi my name is Lucii & I will be 31 years old this November. I've battled with my weight on & off most of my life; but this started to become more of an issue for me following a head on collision back in January 2009, which as a result has left me with a spinal injury thats permanent. My Doctors & consultants told me that I will need a spinal fusion within the next 10 years; if I don't have this surgery then they've said that I could lose the loss of my legs, bladder & bowels permanently & become registered disabled. The catch is though that they've also told me that if I don't undergo a spinal fusion, then the above issues would happen to me any…

First off, I can't tell you how excited I am for my RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery. It is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th. After reading many of your posts, I too have had to jump through a lot of hoops. It will be worth it in the long run. My biggest obstacle was stopping or quitting chewing tobacco before they would do surgery. Having to quit delayed my surgery by 3 months. The frustrating part was when I went for my first Nicotine blood test two weeks from my quit date, my test came back positive. I was shocked, upset, and frustrated all in one. When the nurse called to tell me the bad news, I was very upset and I asked her how it could be positive when I swear…

Hi, everyone - I am seriously considering weight loss surgery and have been browsing through some of the posts here, so I thought I'd register and introduce myself. I will probably go with UC Weight Loss Center, which is near Cincinnati in West Chester, Ohio (Dr. Brad Watkins). Right now, though, I am trying to decide whether to go with the lap band or the plication. My insurance will not cover any of the procedures, unfortunately, so I will have to pay for it myself, which means I won't be able to have the surgery till after I get my bonus at the end of the year. I know the plication is newer, and therefore riskier. But it seems less invasive than the lap band. …

New to this forum/website and looking for support and to connect with people who have or are having the sleeve surgery. I hope to connect with some people from the MD/DC area especially. I am scheduled, tentatively, for surgery on Aug. 29. I've spent the last 3 months going through all the necessary clearances. I'm really excited, not scared at all. I've had 2 c-sections, so hopefully this will be similar in terms of recovery.

I know alot of people post this concern, I have seen it too....Please dont tell me to stay off the scale, I have been through this nightmare already.....I was a sleeve to bypass revision on august 1st, but when i got my sleeve I was on the other site titled "sleeve talk"...and soon after my sleeve, I saw that my weight loss was lagging behind everyone who was sleeved at the same time I was..then, I just stopped losing..actually as soon as the post op diet ended...I have lived on salad and grilled chicken for 3 yrs, and the wt would not come off..I knew I could eat alot, it wasnt my choices in food, it was the volume...Now I feel like I am living that nightmare all over ag…

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the site but am post op three years in September. My starting weight was 370lbs and 8 weeks ago I was 282lbs. I was thrilled but really struggling to eat. Something was blocking and I was choking at night while sleeping. Pretty scary to be woken up out of your sleep because you are choking on your own saliva. Anyway I went to the doctor and they immediatly emptied me out. It was such an incredble feeling to not have any restriction. They wanted me to be empty for a week or two to make sure I was ok. But I was supposed to still be careful with my food intake. Well I went haywire right away eating everything I have not been able to …

Since I have started this journey I have realized that I am a bored eater. I eat when there is nothing to do. I am constantly checking my Facebook and coming on here to see if there are any new topics or updates to try to curb my mind off of food. I need a new hobby or activity. I can't walk to much because of my knee. I would go swimming more but I can't take the kids with me. Uggh! Does anyone else that's pre op feel the same way I do? The good thing is though since I have started to change my eating habits the food cravings and mind manipulation has went down dramatically. I now have some kind of control. Which is a good thing!!

I found this site yesterday and was thanfkful. I was so pumped about having gastric bypass and did all my research. I knew complications were a possibility but were rare. Everyone I know personally that had it had zero problems. Well wouldn't you know I would be the one to have complications. I had my sx on Mon. 8/5..all was well. I was supposed to go home on 8/7 but had been passing blood from my bowels and my blood counts were dropping. My surgeon told me it was most likely left over blood in my gi tract from sx and would resolve itself. My blood counts leveled out and I came home on 8/9. I could only keep down small amts of water. I could not tolerate protein. I was co…

I began thinking about surgery (again) in April this past year. I have PCOS and have struggled with my weight since my late teens. I spent many years on and off on WW (lose, get pregnant, have baby, gain, go back to WW (repeat 3x!)). I went to the "informational" meeting the beginning of June and have submitted everything to my insurance (Federal BCBS). Waiting to hear from the insurance has been more difficult than I imagined! I am so ready for this. I am sick of feeling like food rules my life and feeling like a bystander in my own life. I know this isn't going to be easy, but I am ready!

Hello everyone, I am new to this site, I just found it last night. I'm having gastric bypass surgery on August 7th and am on day 3 of the liver reduction diet. I lost weight all on my own and kept it off for 5 years. I have gained a great deal of it back and just don't feel like I have the strength to do it myself again, I'm tired of the constant fight with food. If I'm not eating, I"m thinking about eating. I am also a stress eater and have a lot of stress in my life that I can't get away from so I have to find a better way to deal with it. As I sit here tonight, feeling really empty physically, I am kind of feeling that way mentally too. I'm in a strange mo…

I wanted to see what other's diet progression is. My surgeon/dietitian has a standard progression of one week of clear liquids, two weeks of full liquids, then two week of pureed foods. I have been reading other sleevers talk about how they are doing pureed foods within the first week or so. I wanted to find out if my diet progression is typical or extra conservative. Also, wanted to see what kind of calories people are taking in.

No worries, this won't be a full recap of my life. I just feel that my story is one that should be shared because of how the band changed my life and then unfortunately had to be removed 4 years later. Before I jump into the story I will say that if you are feeling ANY unusual pain - not necessarily in your port area or stomach - see your surgeon. We have a foreign object in our bodies and it's not unusual for our bodies to try and reject it... Before the band: I've been overweight my entire life. Like many others I couldn't latch onto the right tools to lose that unwanted weight. My level of discipline is something that I continuously struggle to build up - especial…
