Hello everyone I wanted to share my story with you so that I may help someone that is discouraged with what they are going through. I am 43 years old, I have been obese for several years now. I developed gestational diabetes 8 years ago with my youngest child and had kidney problems in my pregnancy and was on bed rest for the last 4 months. My son was born 7 weeks early and after a weeks stay in the NICU he was able to be in a regular room until he could go home. I suffered irreversible damage to my organs and I was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and type 2 diabetes. So over the years I have been battling with health issues and weight gain. I have been seeing a surgeon …

Hey y'all. I went for my endoscopy last week and my surgeon just called and said A scope came back positive from my endoscopy for a bacteria into stomach that causes ulcers. She put me on an antibiotic for two straight weeks and six weeks later I'm scheduled to take a blood test just to ensure that the infection is gone. I'm worried this will be a stall for me. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone know of anyone this has happened to?? What was the outcome for you/them if so? Please help!!!! Missy

Went to the amusement park the other day and it was great not having to worry if the safety bar would come down. Little do my friends know that is why I haven't been to one in years. My highest weight when I started my journey was 363 now down to 210. Glad I embarked on this lifelong trip.

I had surgery July 26 and 3 weeks in I was doing great down 20lbs and the past few days I've been overheating even to the point of making myself sick. What is wrong with me? Am I ever going to win my battle with food? I swore things was going to change once I had surgery and you know I can't seem to overcome my need for food. I was doing so good and as usual I ended up failing. I'm a failure I felt so angry at myself. I'm almost 40 and I wanted so much to accomplish the one thing I have dealt with my whole life. It's like I went from feeling full to I'm not. Will it change once I have my first fill in a few weeks? Has anyone experienced this same problem?

I never thought I was that much of a big eater before being sleeved but seeing how much food is spoiling in my fridge has brought my out of denial. I now know that I have been the one eating the leftovers and bottom pots of food. I will be 3 months post op on 9/5/13 and down 44lbs and 2 dress sizes. I still cannot believe myself putting away food cos I'm full. Being full was never in my dictionary before the sleeve unless the food is finished. I still pinch myself every now and then to know if I am real or fake. My 1yr old has more appetite than I do and he is not big ( thank God he has my husband's stature). So so happy for the changes in my life but still can't believe …

Hey everyone, I am a little over 6 months out and down 90 lbs...ive been extremely committed to going to the gym 3 times a week. I usually do about 45 mins on the elliptical and burn about 550 calories. At this point i really want to start incorporating muscular workouts (all the machines) in the gym. If I cut down to 30 mins on the elliptical and do all the machines for 15 mins will I still lose weight? Just scared by cutting down the cardio will limit the weight loss. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Because it seems completely clear to me, I often make the mistake of thinking it must seem obvious to others. So here it is: If you are over-weight and don't have a band, losing weight without eating well/exercising is damned near impossible If you have a band and don't eat well, don't exercise or have no restriction, you're pretty much as above If you have a band, don't eat well, don't exercise and have some restriction, you may still lose, but probably not much, and eventually you'll probably start regaining If you have a band, eat well, don't exercise and have no restriction, you might still lose, but slowly If you have a band, eat well, don't exercise, and have r…

Hi everyone. I'm doing the 6 mo. Diet monitoring. It's BS but tomorrow I finish w my 6th mo. My concerns are my job. I work as a heating and air tech and tend to sweat a lot and chug a bunch of water. How will this affect my job? Will I have to carry water on me and take sips through out the day?

I have a quick question for those of you who have Blue Cross Blue Shield. My sister and brother-in-law are both seriously considering being sleeved. She called their insurance today, BCBS and was told that they don't cover weight loss surgery. My thought is what if their Dr. prescribed or recommended the surgery? Has anyone else who has BCBS encountered this issue and if so, what steps were taken to finally get approved? Thanks in advance for the help.

As I reflect on this past week I am in awe that I am already here. First I have realized that as much as this forum is a great source of information, that everyone is SO different, that it really is an individual journey as much as a group journey. I have also realized that a lot of the struggles are mind over matter, it sucks to get water in, but "sip sip sip" is pretty much point on in those first few days. I felt like a baby nursing lol, it was constant.... sip...sip...sip.... The persistence has paid off, the first day I only got in 17oz, the second 40oz and yesterday.... 70oz. Protein is another story.... and another post. I have unofficial weights, but I won't make …

I started at 334 pounds and am now holding at a comfortable 177-180 (5' 8' tall). I got down to 195 with the surgery and held that for several years. Then I gained back up to 225. Not happy! I started doing research about the food available in the grocery stores and the food that I was eating regularly. I I had fallen into the trap of eating low fat low sugar foods that were highly processed and not very nutritious. I also was achy, tired often and sluggish. I cut out a lot of the processed foods that I was eating, and I bought a Vitamix. I started drinking a big smoothie with lots of fresh, organic fruits and veggies every day. Then, after losing about 25 pounds, I join…

For me, I learned a lot of faulty beliefs about food as a child. My Dad, who had schizophrenia, was never very loving (actually extremely abusive) but on occasion, when he felt especially happy, he'd share his joy, and love with us buy buying junk food. I remember him carrying me on my shoulders at around 4 years old down to the corner store and bought me those little chocolates wrapped in foil in the shape if a football! That's a special memory for my because I've had very few experiences of feeling loved by him. (Food = love) I was the oldest of 9 children. I had a lot of responsibility and stress growing up seeing as my dad was unreliable mentally and our mom was a…

rather than keep trying the old fashioned route. I am 5'4" tall and weight 255. I decided on this surgery because I feel like my life is on hold and I dont want to get to the point that things are more out of control than they already are. I am 34 and would like to have children some day. I would also like to marry my long term boyfriend but I will NOT be a fat bride or a fat pregnant woman that is unhealthy. 3 people at work have had this procedure are are happy and healthy with a new out look on life. my BMI is about 43. so, whats your story guys? ones that have been sleeved or waiting to be sleeved, Id love to hear from you.

Now that I am "approved" for surgery and this is becoming a reality, I figured NOW is the time to post my story so far. I am 49, 5'7 and 235 at my highest weight. (Can't believe I actually wrote that down for public consumption!) That made me a BMI of 36.8. I had considered weight loss surgery off and on throughout the years of yo-yo dieting. My last good weight loss was about 30 pounds back in 2009 and I was lighter then. So that means I have put on about 40 pounds in four years. (Less than a pound a month, not too bad, right??!! Ha!) I have some lung problems, high blood pressure (if you would only lose weight, you wouldn't have to take these pills anymore....…

This is a mother/daughter adventure for me. Myself, being the "daughter". I'm 21 years old, 5.3" @ 255lbs. Goal: 140lbs, by December 2014. Im on a 6 month plan from my insurance company and had my very first nutritionist appointment last Friday (August 2013). I'm basically gathering as much information as my brain can handle about the procedure, with the before & afters, and preop/postop diets! Everyone on this site is so encouraging and helpful! I look forward to seeing everyone's success!

I am really new to this posting thing, so any mistakes made please forgive me. I will be starting the options class at Kaiser Palmdale, CA. tomorrow on June 10th. I am so excited I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. I have so many plans in my head about what I will do with the lighter version of me. I'm a diabetic and I'm really, really hoping I can start my new life without insulin. I used to do so many things before diabetes and I'd really like to get back to every last one, and this time I'll appreciate life I whole lot more. I'm looking at this as a second chance, a redo, and I don't intend to waste it.

Hello everyone! I have been on my journey for this procedure since June and the time is almost here. My surgery is set for September 12, 2013 and the closer the date gets here, the more my nerves set in. I have been struggling with my weight my entire life and decided that I had to do something. My weight is causing health issues with my back, my knees, and my ankles. I decided to take this route since everything else I have tried didnt get me where I need to be. I just have fears about all surgical procedures. I'm trying to stay positive and was looking for friends and plenty of advice on the way. So far I'm finding this site to be very helpful and answering a few of my …

Hi everyone! I am 53 years old and have also struggled with weight up and down all my life. However at this point in my life it's always on the up side. I go tomorrow for my first consult but I am feeling so unsure. I have read lots of good on the band but as you all know there's always the band too. I'm hoping the bad stories are few and far. Hello Everyone; I have been searching for answers and ran across this site while surfing the web. My story: I am 52, divorced, have raised 4 children and am a Family Practice physician. The year my life became very stressful (1998) I gained 100 lbs. That was the year I chose to let my husband leave the family (he had another "love"), I was accepted into medical school and moved the 4 kids to a new home, in a city where I had no friends or family and no employment. Yes, STRESS will cause one to gain weight. At that time I couldn't focus on my body and had to get through every day one at a time. Now fast forward 15 years: I have had a successful career as a phys…

I've been lurking around reading everyone's posts since before I had my surgery, so I figured it's about time to finally introduce myself and tell my story! So, I'm Tara, a 33 year old woman who recently married my love who I've lived with for over 12 years. I think that was the defining day for me. We had planned on getting married for years and years, but finally decided to just go to the court house with a couple of family members and do the deed. I couldn't even stand to have people take pictures of me/us that day. I know everyone wanted them, and I should have as well, but at almost 320 pounds I just couldn't stomach the idea. Of course, that's only one of a laund…

Puritans Pride has a digital Water bottle that makes life so much easier. It keeps track of all your Fluid intake in a 24 hour period. It is so nice to not have to add up every drink throughout the day. I just look at the end of the day at the display and put that on MFP. You can put all liquids in it as far as I know. Protein shakes may be too thick but they may work as well. They are $20 each at Puritans Pride website.

I can't believe how quickly my life has changed! Getting the sleeve was the best thing I have ever done for myself but I had to do my share too! I run 20 miles a week, do yoga twice a week and train with a trainer twice a week. I've also had to completely re-train my brain when it comes to food. This time I'm never going back! I'm 31, and have been struggling, back and forth, with my weight for my entire life. I've been through phases where I was very healthy, and not at all overweight (even used to be a distance runner,) and then for whatever reason it would come rushing back even more than before....off and on like that for many years. Essentially, I reached a point where I started getting serious health problems like diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, liver disease, hypertension, etc. So after considerable reserach, I decided to get "sleeved." I did on 8-21-13, and the journey has just begun for me. I'll get to try pureed foods for the first time tomorrow....kind of excited to see how…
