  1. Started by OBXgirl,

So I am two weeks post op and made it to Onederland today . Very exciting!! I did great with surgery and the two days in hospital. However, this has been very challenging both mentally and emotionally. Each day seems to get a little better though. I'm thankful for this forum and all the great discussion and advice. On that note, how about some advice for getting in more liquids? I'm not doing the best in that department. Water actually makes me sort of nauseous, is this common?? I'm also on puréed foods, any suggestions other than yogurt, cottage cheese, etc?

I was banded in 08 & lost 80lbs - went into "onderland" for a while - now I'm battling cravings, eating everything, over-eating, etc. I spent four years out of state and didn't have a check-up. Tuesday I'm going to have a fluro, but I'm sure something isn't right. I crave food, I'm hungry, I can eat way more than 4 ounces of food at a meal and just feel like a failure. Not to mention very uncomfortable in my tight clothes that are getting tighter. I eat when I'm happy, sad, glad, celebrating, frustrated, etc...get my point...I'm always eating. Has anyone ruined the band and then had a sleeve? The thing I worry about most is I've lost the "brain function" - when…

surgery is done as of Tuesday. three days out.i have been off pain meds since first night.the only time it hurts is when I get up and down or sneeze or cough. along this line I had my husband buy me an old lady toilet seat that raises up the seat five or six inches after it took me five minutes to get up. keep in mind if you have a low toilet. my surgery was at woamck army hospital and the staff there rocks. hernia repair, sleeve and my liver had adhesions that took a little more time. dr perkins is the best. I am just really tired and sleepy.no gas pain so far, don't know if comes later. I feel great considering.

I'm happy to have found this website. I'm scheduled for surgery on 9/19 and am really starting to worry whether this is a good decision for me. I don't personally know anybody who's done it and have no one to talk to. I've tried several diets and workout routines over the years, and while I'm always fairly successful, I can never maintain the weight loss long term. Let's face it, I can only eat chicken breast, cottage cheese, and salad for so many months before I start to gag on my dinner. As soon as I go back to "normal" foods, the weight comes back. This was the reason that I looked into lap band surgery. I'm hoping that this way I will not be limited to fish and…

I have had a weight problem for over 10 years. It started out with just 20-30 pounds over weight but as I grew older and stressed I ate more and more. I would lose weight but I never maintained the loss. The biggest gain for me started about 3 years ago when I made the decision to move away from my family for my career. At first I was okay no weight gain but as I began missing my family the more I pulled away from the life I had created away from home and would dwell on how much I missed home. That's when I started eating more and more. Before I knew it I was 70 lbs heavier. I tried Zumba and walking to get the weight off but somehow I ended up with a cyst on my knee. Wal…

Today is the real beginning to my band experience. I had surgery on August 9th, but just got my first adjustment due to fluid not yet obsorbed around my port from the surgery. I was so excited today when I left the doctors office that I cried. I have no idea what I am in for as far as tolerance because since I have been eating solid foods, I really haven't had problems with anything. To date I am down 24 lbs but have pretty much been at a stand still for a few weeks waiting for my body to cooperate and was getting a little discouraged because the changes I have made stopped producing results. Any suggestions for tomorrow, my first experience with solid food after adj…

Hi, my name is April and I'm an Oklahoma girl I was actually a member on here previously (strangelynormal-yes, that's me with the hot pink hair) but once I tried to sign back in I couldn't because I no longer had access to the previous email. It was just a hassle so I said screw it and created this account. I was almost a self-pay in Mexico, but lo and behold, I finally had insurance that covers the sleeve... so I didn't go that route. I have a few more appointments and then I'll be sleeved in either Dec or Jan. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I have learned a lot from this forum and appreciate all of the help it offers. Laters

I am 4 weeks post op and each week has been a challenge. I have waited 4 whole week to eat something with texture that now that I am able to I am so afraid to eat the wrong things. I am not sure if certain foods will get stuck or if there are certain foods that should just not be eaten ever again. On the other side of the fear I have lost 23 lbs in the last 4 weeks. ( yay me) This is where I need a little help, After surgery I was given a very small list of food options for week 4, can anyone give food Ideas that worked for them.

Hi everyone! I have been lurking for a couple of weeks now and just joined a couple of days ago. I am 5'6" and 265 pounds. I'm tired of being fat! I used to be "merely" overweight, by about 3 pounds, and thought that was the worst ever. Boy, was I wrong! I was a teenager and constantly picked on by a step-father who enjoyed making cruel comments and pig noises at me. Now, I am 34 years old with two children and zero energy. I look at pictures of myself as a teen and wish I still looked that cute. For a long time I used to view every bite I took as an "Eff you" to the ex-step-father. I have made peace with my past and realize it was his issue, not mine. (FYI his…

  25. I'm pre op just looking at all situations that could possibly arise. Me & my boyfriend of 4 years have our share of issues, but nothing so serious that would make me consider leaving. We both are overweight & enjoy food...Now that I am moving forward with this surgery I am nervous about the possibility that we will not have our common link. It is my hope that my journey will encourage him to make some small changes, but do not expect him to have the surgery. This man came into my life and we connected on such a deeper level, I just worry that so much of it was based on the fact that we are both overweight. I hope this doesn't sound horrible, because I love him dear…

Hello everyone! I am new to this support group and just briefly tell you my story. I am having surgery on September 20 in Burbank California. I began looking into the surgery this year and to my surprise was approved by my insurance. My heaviest wt was 311lbs and currently am 276lbs. I began my preop liquid diet and mentally preparing myself for the changes. My fam and friends are supportive, thankfully. I also am lucky to have a close friend who had her surgery last year ( she honestly convinced me because she is doing amazing! !) I am excited to know that I am not alone in this journey. I look forward to reading the posts of this community!

  29. I have received my insurance approval..for some reason I thought that everything would magically fall into place, but I am starting to get fearful & overwhelmed. Anyone got any good advice for staying calm and not over thinking the process? I watch YouTube videos and get either very excited or very afraid, but I need to prepare myself as I am a analytical person who likes fact...my MD office has several tests, visits set up for me as I begin this journey to my surgery date. But I want to interact with those REAL HONEST PEOPLE who have blazed this trail before me and those who are embarking upon it at the same time...SO WHO'S GOT HELP?

Anyone had VSG done there willing to share their experience would be appreciated. Cost? Facility/hospital stay? Doctor & staff? Thanks in advance I can only afford to have it done there, in the states it's impossible for me budget wise.

Is anyone having.....or have had this issue? Today I finally was able to take the dog out for a walk. My stomach felt weird, and I kept having internal burps. Though we walked for about 20 minutes, I cut it short & went home. I felt really weird. A little later, when I tried to eat lunch, I kept having those internal burps. For most of my life I have always had trouble with digestion. I struggled with diabetes since I was 14 yrs. old. In my 20’s my diet consisted of primarily coffee and nicotine and I wouldn’t eat dinners until late at night due to working 60 hour work weeks. When my husband was deployed in 2003/4 it was shortly after the birth of our second daughter that my health took a turn. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer that was not progressing but it was advised that I have a full radical hysterectomy to be safe. The surgery went fine and I recovered well and it was a few years before I started to notice that something wasn’t right. We had been transferred to WA state in 2006 I w…
