So here is the update. ~I passed my nut exam...however the nut says I am a glass half empty type of person. How can a person who meets with you for 20 minutes pass that type of judgement? She couldn't be further from the truth. Oh well, at least she passed me. ~Surgeon's office has two nutritionists/dieticians. The manager dietician said I need one more month (October) before she will submit to insurance since they scheduled two visits in one month. The other dietician, the one I don't like because she doesn't take any time with me and has told me conflicting information told me she is submitting this month...ugghh. ~Finally told my boss!! Wasn't going to but she ask…

Hello, My name is Gail and I had Gastric Sleeve Surgery on Monday September 23, 2013 at EMMC. Michelle Toder was my surgeon and my surgery lasted less than an hour. I've had a great experience with the exception of my first pain pill not agreeing with me and causing a lot of nausea on Tuesday, but that did not stop me from walking more than 2 miles on day two I'm home now recovering...and a little bored. Reminding myself what to do...sip sip sip...and what not to do...my husband is going to have to vacuum when he gets home.

I hit Onederland today (199.4) at 7 1/2 weeks out. I'm down 42 pounds overall (14 pre-surgery). I'm so excited about this milestone! I'm playing my first tennis match since surgery tonight & my tennis clothes look so much better . Weight loss has slowed down to a crawl though...I thought I'd be posting this a week ago!

I have been very angry over the last 3 years. Our lives will never be the same. For those of you that don't know me, I am NOT the one that had the gastric bypass. I am speaking for our family on behalf of my fiance. After much thought and research, my hunny's ultimate decision to have the weight loss surgery was for his daughter. Our story begins with his surgery in November 2010. He had complications from the beginning. We spent more than 3 weeks in the hospital that first month. RNY was laproscopic. He initially spent 3 days in the hospital and was released with 1 JP drain. Our first sign something was wrong after we came home from the hospital- watching yello…

Hi, I've been a part of this forum for just over a year and I'm finally getting to a point where i see a light at the end of the tunnel. I started my process in June 2013 through SHARP service provider but because of the financial factors I changed to a military doctor. I am hoping to have surgery through the military system (which in itself is a little bit scary). I've attended all my classes, lost my required 13-15 lbs (actually lost 20lbs), and "passed" my psych evaluation with a recommendation for monthly follow ups because of my stressful job and previous depression and anxiety. I even quit smoking in June 2012. I have been cleared to meet with the surgeon and am wa…

Hey everyone one! Im new to this site. I am single, 26yrs old and I am now 210lbs and 5'3". I have high blood pressure, high cholestoral, herniated discs in my back, and diabetes and many heart conditions run in my family. Since last week I've decided I want to get the gastric sleeve, so I am in the very beginning of this process. Ive been yo-yo dieting for a couple years now and threw away a couple thousand with medifast. Which i was losing the weight and gained it all back once I ate real food. I have a 6 year old daughter whom I do not play enough with because I just dont have the energy or body parts hurt or Im too hot (because I only wear pants). If I can lose …

Hello I have been a long time lurker here on this site. It’s a great site by the way. I have learned a lot and a lot of my questions have been answered just by reading post and the answer everyone has given. I have been over weight since I was a kid. I have tried many many many times to lose weight. Every single time I tried only ended in very little loss. It gets me because I am a fairly active person. When my knee is not bothering me I go to the gym 2 to 3 times a week. And I have a very high impact hobby I do 1 to 2 times a week, but never really been able to drop and weight. Well I have been thinking about WLS for awhile now. And I went to a couple WLS seminars in…

I just joined the site and was hoping to hear from anyone beginning this journey with a BMI ~32. I have been confirmed a candidate for the sleeve by my doctor, but have been talked down to by everyone I have tried to reach out to, with the exception of my family. My sister has the sleeve (since Feb 2012), and it has been life changing. I feel I have seen her go through many things and have an idea what I will be doing (although no two experiences can be the same). Has anyone out there had the same experience with people doubting you?

Hi I am 6 days post op and concerned about 2 things. I am still using pain pills because of the discomfort that I feel from the band. I constantly feel gas pressure on the band which makes it very uncomfortable. I take anatacids too which dont seem to help. ! Also after 4 days I had no bowel movement so took prune juice and milk of mag. Considering I'm on a liquid diet the bowels should just be moving liquid right?. I'm just worried about impaction from no bowel movement for 4 days. I also have to take Milk of mag daily now.

Highest weight 299 lbs. Day of surgery 278 lb on 8/21/13. Current weight 263.5 lb on 9/21/13. Have had a stall for 2 weeks but I can see changes in pictures. No complications other than having a low blood pressure now. My normal was 120/90's hr 100's.....now im 90/50's hr 70's. I passed out from it a week ago. The doctors office said it was just my body adjusting. I can definitely tell when it gets really low so I am learning to deal with it. Exercising consists of walking 2-3 miles on the treadmill at least 4x a week and then doing some light weights and just random dancing lol. It's really hard getting Protein in but im trying my best. Drinking plenty of Water and tea w…

I use to hate the fact that my weight loss is so slow compared to most people but I think that I'm loving it now because people don't suspect or question me having surgery compared to a lady I know that dropped weight so fast that people are saying that she had surgery even though she denies it. I know it's nobody's business and that people will always gossip, which is why I only told my family and my boss. Another good thing about this is that I have more energy now so I use the stairs more at work and workout more now with my residents that people see my trying to lose weight that surgery is the last thing on their mind. And of course, I tell them my secret when asked: …

Hello all!! It's terribly strange for me to say that in just a few weeks I'll be celebrating my 2 year sleeve-aversery! In some ways it feels like I had my sleeve done years and years ago, and other ways it feels like just yesterday. I thought I'd pop back on because I remember reading these posts before my sleeve and wondering what I was in for. I also remember wondering why there didn't seem to be many veterans on here. If I may, let me give you a little insight on what it's like 2 years later. My highest weight was 342.2 (every oz counts right?) and now I stay between 168 and 171....if you're doing the math...171.1 is exactly half my weight. Odd isn't it? I was never o…

Hi All, I was sleeved about 8 months ago and I was pretty active on VST in the 3 months leading up to my surgery until about a month or so after surgery and I've been pretty absent since then. There are a variety of reasons for this, including the fact that I am a grad student working on my Master's thesis and I don't have a lot of free time right now, but probably the biggest reason that I have been absent is because I hit a months-long stall from about 2 months post-surgery until the 7th month after surgery and I was feeling very much like a failure. I lost around 40 pounds within the first 2 months of surgery and then virtually nothing--well, maybe 3 pounds that I ke…

After over 2 months of steadily losing hair, washing it today I realised that single strands were coming out, not little groups of hair. It wasn't blocking the bath and when I brushed it out, there was way less hair coming out... I know, that was today and tomorrow might see more hair loss. But I will take every little victory and today, I am smiling :-))))))

I just need to sleep but I cant!! I need some reassurance that everything will be fine! Also I have never had surgery before (im only 21) so as weird as it sounds my biggest fear is waking up in the middle of it! (I watch too much greys anatomy) has anyone else had these feelings? Hello Mexico sleevers, I am trying to get as more info as I can about being sleeved in Mexico. My older sister who was denied by her insurance cos of low BMI and no health issues except for knee pain is considering going to Mexico to be sleeved. She is worried about something happening and no one to be held responsible. Also, she is wondering who will follow up with her when she comes back here. Also, the amount of money it cost, can she trust anyone, who's the best surgeon back there etc. please I need as more info as I can get for my sister. She is seeing my progress and she wants the same for herself which I would love for her to have by all means. Thanks in advance.

And doing awsome. My starting weight was 305 and my year anniversary I was 165. My goal was 155- 159. Here I am 8 months later and still 165-168 pounds. I feel like I eat like a normal person. If I want a cookie I eat a cookie. I still can't eat very much but I haven't had a hard time with any foods. It hasn't been hard for me to stay at this weight. I'm So happy I did this and sometimes I even forget I had it done. Totally worth it!!! Gonna try alittle harder to get the last off cause me and my husband are trying to get pregant so I wanna hit goal before that. ????

Surgery was July 15th, I am down 30 pounds and still have alot to go. I started a gym, but am unable to go as much as I would like due to I work long varies hours of the day. I think I am doing ok, but it doesn't help I am a picky eater before surgery. I still want to eat junk food, but do everything in my power to avoid doing it since my hungry is different now. Its great being full fast, and the hungry goes away so much faster. But my old self remembers how good certain were and wants to enjoy them still. All suggestions are welcome.. thanks, Sandee

I had the gastric sleeve august 21st of 2013. I have had a few problems at week two when I was supposed to start soft foods I ate some tuna and got sick. And was throwing up and couldn’t get fluids down. I ended up at the hospital for two days on an IV. When I went home I was on clear fluids for a day and then back to blended foods for a week. On week three I still wasn’t getting enough fluids in and ended up at the emergency room because every time I stood up I became dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. My DR said you have to drink more. I was only able to get 36 oz. in a day. I began forcing myself to drink even thought it was painful and giving me heart burn.…

I was banded on 9/11. I'm feeling great, really. I'm back at work today for the first day since the surgery. I'm tired, but able to work. I have a desk job, so no heavy lifting required. I was so worried about what the days after my surgery would be like...pain, discomfort...but I feel like I came through it very well. I was off pain meds in a couple of days. I tolerated the Protein Shakes better than expected (I have a dairy allergy that started to rear its head at the end of last week, so I have switched now from whey proteins). I was allowed to move to mushy foods this weekend. That's been interesting! Who knew blended lentil Soup would be so yummy?!? So…

I am sooo terrified that I cancelled my 9/11 surgery for the love of!!!!!!. Soo many folks on this site that can't wait for their surgery date and I cancelled mine. I even went on wellbutrin prescribed by my doc to calm my anxiety and still I cancelled! I have been going to a lot of support groups and listening to stories and reading on this website (which is fabulous) and still I am freaking out! I am so irritated with myself! I am a breast cancer survivor and I would think that would be enough for me to go through with it due to fat producing estrogen and that is what was in my tumor so now have been put in a medical menopause so my ovaries quit producing it but the fa…
