Wow, I have so many mixed emotions about tomorrow.I can't believe this day is finally here. I did horrible on my pre op diet. I didn't lose any weight, my own fault of course. A close friend of mine recently was sleeved on July 8th and had a leak. She was in the hospital for 20 days, released for 2 days and back in again. She had to have 2 stents placed to block the hole. But our doctors, body, healing and everything else is different. My family keeps asking me why I'm still going to get this done after she's had so many problems. I'm excited for it. My life will be cut short if I don't have this surgery. That feeling when your back is up against a wall. I've never been u…

Here it is, the whole tale, recorded mostly in real time as I experienced things from the day I flew into San Diego to today, the day before I fly home. Pre-op Day We had to fly for 3 1/2 hours on a fully-booked flight from Nashville, TN to San Diego. Samuel was waiting for us in a shabby little white minivan. Perfect English, but no tour like some others discussed, he drove us straight through the border and into Tijuana. Awkward conversation, trying to think of things to say. He told us to take the orange and white cabs to go anywhere, but the bellboy said to always take hotel transportation. Not sure who was right. Lots of poverty everywhere. Shabby houses on the h…

Hello everyone!! I am new to this forum and this is the first one I have ever been on. I am quite shy, but I am starting a new journey, leading me to a new life. I came upon this forum while researching about the gastric sleeve surgery. I had originally planned on getting the lap band, but after reading and researching more about it, I decided on the sleeve instead. I had my first visit on July 15th 2013 and the surgeon also recommended the sleeve for me. I am excited that I have been approved and my surgery date is August 13th 2013!! I am also very nervous! Today is my first day of my one week high Protein full liquid diet. I guess I should tell you all just a little abo…

I on the other hand have been feeling really good! I'm 23yrs old so maybe I was thinking because if my age but I've been of pain mess since the night I stayed in the hospital and I've been able to drink water very well. I feel like Ive been sipping in too much broth for only being 5days out, is this normal for anyone else?

  8. Hello! This is my first post since becoming a member. I am going to be sleeved on the 17th of this month by Dr. Snyder in Denver. Needless to say, I am super nervous but know that this is the best option for me. What are some things you wish you knew before surgery that would have made the experience after surgery easier (recommendations, items on hand, suprises in the process, etc.)? Thank you!

I have been following RNYTalk.com for a while now and decided I should share my experience. I had RNY in January 2005 at age 24. I was 249 lbs at the time of surgery. I did fantastic with no complications other than needing my gall bladder removed in December of that year (which is very common). I lost my weight steadily and at six months I had got down to 152 lbs. I never had a specific goal in mind but this was a great weight for me. After that I stabled out at 157 lbs for four years. In January 2009 my life dramatically changed when my very painful divorce was final. More or less everything that had been my life was gone. I was going to be 30 in just a couple months …

I'm looking forward to losing weight but it doesn't seem real yet. I meet with the surgeon in May and that's when I find out what my pre op diet will be. Just overall excited but also a little nervous. Anybody relate?

I had reached 260. I had started hiding from pictures. Nothing fit right... my kids would make comments like "mommy has a big tummy" or commercials would come for weight loss or tummy wraps to make you look smaller and my daughter would say mommy you need that. I had no energy was depressed. I didn't even let my husband touch me. I had enough. So I went to my Dr we tried a life wellness program. And in it didn't work. I have a tentative surgery date set for October 23rd. Typically in the past whenever I've had surgery I have had a really bad reaction to the pain meds which causes some horrendous nausea the next day. They will usually not allow me to have any liquids for several hours to the next day because they don't want me to vomit. The thirst is awful. I also think he is a sadist who wants to make me suffer for asking legitimate questions about my healthcare.
