I have been toying with the idea of surgery for years. Last year a friend had a sleeve with great results. I still struggled with how this would change my life, my addictive relationship with food....... How could I do this and be happy? How could I not? After years of weight loss and regain. In April of this year my Dad had some health problems and ended up in a coma. As I stood over him thinking I was saying good bye I was filled with anger at him for not taking better care of himself, then it hit me that the extra 160 pounds I was carrying was probably worse on my health than his smoking was on his. At that point I became committed to have the sleeve and do all I could…

September 26 was my 1 yr surgiversary!!! I can't believe how quickly the time has passed and what an amazing journey this is.. I went from 250 being my heaviest to 235 day of surgery to 147 as of today.. I have lost a total 103lbs and I'm not looking for them ever again.. Getting my sleeve was the best thing I could have ever done.. I ???? it and my only regret is not getting sooner... ???? Janie (sent from my iPhone using VST)

Well, I am post-op day 1 gastric bypass (roux-en-y). Highest weight 299 lbs, day of surgery 278 lbs. My journey began on March 16th 2013 at Dr. Roller's seminar in northwest arkansas. Had to a 3 month nutritional counseling. My first appointment consisted of a complete history, lab work, h. pylori test, ekg, pulmonary function test, and chest x-ray. Next came the egd and pyschological evaluation. Once approved my surgery date of 8/21/13 was scheduled. 1 week pre-op I was told to do 2 meal replacement shakes and a healthy meal a day. The day before surgery was clear liquid and the amazing mag citrate bowel prep. I have never had any major surgeries before and really no maj…

So my only option was to go to MX. I had planned to have it Jan 17 2013 with Dr. Lopez in PV. I met 2 great ladies here during that time who were having surgery same place and same time and another who was having surgery with DR. Alvarez at the same time. We have stayed in touch and I call those ladies friends. They have done awesome!!! But I had to cancel due to some family issues. I started Phase 1 of my journey in May and have been through all the required appointments, seminars, group meetings, psychiatric evals and the dreaded liquid diet. Tomorrow morning at 10am I start Phase 2 and I am sooooo ready to embrace the new me. I decided to get banded because I was sooo sick and tired of being sick and tired. Every health issue I have had from infertility to hypertension had been addressed by healthcare professionals with "lose some weight and your symptoms should improve". However in the past NO ONE was willing to give any assist…

  15. Hello. My name is Kat. I was banded Monday and it seems like I'm recovering pretty well. I went home the same day, continue walking hourly, and am getting my protein drinks down like I'm supposed to. I'm trying to wean off the pain killer because it knocks me out. I've been lowering the dose since yesterday and I've been able to stay awake for longer periods of time. The only trouble I'm having is staying hydrated. Seems like I can't drink enough water and I feel dehydrated. Working on that today and looking forward to starting my soft diet on Saturday. Looking forward to positive results.

Hello everyone! Until I hit puberty, I was as skinny as a rail. Once I did hit it though, I gained weight and kept it on. I guess i was never really "fat" even though I was called fat by classmates and the like, but I've always been bigger than I wanted to be. My mother passed away after a brief battle with cancer last year, and that sent me into a really bad funk where I gained a lot of weight. My wife and I also welcomed our first child near the end of 2012. It was certainly time for a change. I started this journey at 6'1, 349 pounds. I lost 10 pounds leading up to the surgery, and have lost another 20 since my surgery, which was at the end of June this year. I am …

I have my sleeve surgery on Friday morning. That is only 2 days away!!! I can't believe the time has come already. And I am freaking out. I am having the surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC in TJ, MX. I have only heard fantastic things about their clinic and recovery, but I hate the nagging thought that refuses to leave my head that keeps asking the questions like: "What if something goes wrong after the surgery and my hospital or doctor don't know how to help me?" or "I hate throwing up and throwing up directly out of surgery would be awful. Is that going to happen to me?" or "What if I get there and I end up having an enlarged liver or something and they can…

I was banded January 9, 2011. I was so excited. Did well on an Optifast diet prior to surgery. Did very well the first 4 months. Lost 43 pounds and felt so good. New clothes, people noticing. Then I started to struggle. At the time, I had an upper management job and my responsibility was 24/7. Things started getting very challenging at work and I found myself working 12 hour days (mostly a desk job) and I became exhausted with little time to eat and less time to think about it or exercise. Not an excuse, but I am 62 years old and this was too much for me. My weight loss stopped. Several months went by and I started to see myself barely moving, grabbing anythin…

Good Morning USA "losers"! I just got on the scale after a few days of anxiety induced overeating behavior. I've regained 5# and am MAD that I allowed myself to fall back into the pit of sugar! I'm determined to lose it again before my next weigh in on the 7th of October. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to avoid the old habits and stick with the new mindset when anxious??? Please help...I am prone to consume sugar when emotions are overtaking my mind. I know I'm NOT the only one. AND I KNOW I CAN OVERCOME the habitual by making new habits.------------FRUSTRATED!

I had the gastric bypass July 22. I weighed 260lbs. I had no health issues other then being over weight . I decided to have the surgery because I have struggled with my weight for years and didn't want to gain weight and develop health issues as I got older. This is a learning process for me . I now weigh 216lbs and my goal is 150lb. My other goal is to learn to eat good healthy foods and learn a good work out regimen.
