Hello everyone!

Until I hit puberty, I was as skinny as a rail. Once I did hit it though, I gained weight and kept it on. I guess i was never really "fat" even though I was called fat by classmates and the like, but I've always been bigger than I wanted to be. My mother passed away after a brief battle with cancer last year, and that sent me into a really bad funk where I gained a lot of weight. My wife and I also welcomed our first child near the end of 2012. It was certainly time for a change.

I started this journey at 6'1, 349 pounds. I lost 10 pounds leading up to the surgery, and have lost another 20 since my surgery, which was at the end of June this year. I am currently at 319 pounds and heading in the right direction. I look forward to interacting with you all and sharing the experience together!

Congratulation on your start on this lab band journey. Remember to not get caught up what the scale is saying but concentrate more on how your life is changing.

There is nothing better than being a parent, (I do have to admit Being a Grampa is just pure fun. You are heading in the right direction because you will need all the energy you can muster to keep up with the youngster.

Take care.

Hey BDP, my story is very similar so I feel ya. I was thick in highschool, then hefty, then chunky. When I was 21 my dad was diagnosed with cancer. How could my hero have cancer?? Anyway, fast forward three years and three different bouts with cancer he finally passed. At this point I was fat. I went from 220 to 290. Fast forward two more years and I was obese. Tipped the scale at 367. I hated it. Yo Yo dieted for a few years and ended up getting down to 300. Fast forward a couple of more years, a recession, a baby, dissolving a business, starting another business, all the financial hell you can think of and I was back to 330. Losing weight in your twenties seems easy compared to losing in your thirties. I finally lost some and just had enough. I could tell the weight was negatively effecting me and my doc got tires of me bitching all the time. Now I'm a few days on the other side and can already tell a huge difference in how my body feels. Congrats on making such a life changing decision. Stay connected on here. There is an amazing group willing to help.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
