Hi, I'm almost 4 months post op (6/26/2013) and the weight loss has slowed way down (kind of frustrated). My highest weight was 212 and surgery weight was 188. I am at 146 today and I have about 21 lbs to be at my goal of 125 lbs. I am short only 5'0". I haven't been exercising as much as I should and I know I need to change that. I just need to get motivated and I am having a hard time doing that. I have gone on a couple of hikes with my husband which I have never been able to do and actually did an 8 mile hike in 2 days a few weeks ago! I was so very proud of myself! It hasn't been easy, it's hard work making good decisions and I do admit I don't always make good …

Hello, My name is Maureen and I am a 45 year old woman from Olympia, Washington. I have been overweight ever since I can remember. I have always been on a diet even from a young age and still obese. I am currently over 330 pounds and 5'2". I am afraid to step on the scale. My BMI is over 60 and I am concerned for my health. I have high blood pressure and severe sleep apnea. My biggest fear is dying and having to have 6 firefighters carry my body out of my house. I went to my pcp and requested to have gastric bypass back in August. She sent in the paperwork and I was approved to move on in the process. I have Group Health as my medicare advantage. I finally h…

Iwas sleeved on May 28, 2013 by Doctor Fass in Austin Texas. I lost 28 lbs on my pre-op diet. To date including my pre-op loss I have lost 120 lbs. I have been very blessed with the way that I handled the surgery. I never had any major pain. I was on liquids for about 3 weeks and made a smooth transition to semi-solids and solids. It has now been just over 4 months from my surgery and I am starting to lose a little hair. Words cannot express the changes that I already have in my like. I weighed just under 400 lbs when I had the surgery. Just walking from my home to my vehicle took my breath away. I can now bend over to tie my shoes. I walk around the nieborhood…

Hello all! I have been lurking and reading while researching and making my decision. A little less than a month ago I met with a surgeon, powered thru a ton of appts and evaluations and can now officially say I will have surgery on December 1st! More excited than nervous right now. My doctor is one of those with no real pre-op diet except liquids 48hrs before, but I am using this time to explore and figure out all the Protein options and such and hope to lose some pre-op weight to help with the liver issues anyway! He also has a very speedy progression post-surgery which I will probably ask about in another post. This one is just to say hi and here I am! I am 44,…

Hey guys! So there are so many people to thank on this forum, but, to be all-inclusive, and not leave anyone out on accident, I'll just put it like this: Thank you guys so, so much for everything. Anyone who has prayed for me, answered a question I had, become a friend, talked to me, asked me questions, commented on my status updates, given me a like or two, and just made me feel like a part of this community, thank you. Here, have the biggest virtual hug in, like, the world. o=(^o^)=o Okay, so here's how my life has gone lately, and it's pretty amazing, and you guys are a HUGE part to thank! Well, Here I am! New to all of this and hoping I can meet new friends and different opinions on this whole new life! My life changes started when I learned that I had developed Diabetes, along with already having High blood Pressure and hypo thyroid. Along with my mother getting sick and having to go to the hospital and when I rode in the ambulance with her, I couldnt even buckle the seat belt! I was soooo embarrased! I made an appointment with Dr. Shroder and went in January of 2013. As required, I had to get a nutrionionist consult, a psychaitric evaluation, and letter of support from my Family Practice Doctor. I completed all of this by the end of April this year. Al…

Hi. This is my first ever post. I am on day 7 of my pre-op diet (out of 13 days). My first 3 days flew by with no problems, I am taki g Optifast only. 1 packet 5 times a day. These last 2 days have been very hard for me. I cry I'm so hungry and I have a 1yr old boy and 3 yr old daughter that I have to cook for all the time. I know I am having this sleeve so my quality of life is better and for my children and husband as well, but I'm very nervous about completely changing my lifestyle!! My husband and I both love to cook. Drink wine and just enjoy eating out. We travel constantly, and I'm just so afraid I won't be able to do it anymore. Many nights throughout the summe…

I'm 2wks post op and my dad birthday was October 16th, we went out to Ruby Tuesday and when the waiter came they took drink orders and when they got to me I was like no thanks and yes they stood there like okay not even water lol and I was like no thanks lol ... ( I learned that from you all) so then moving on to ordering food the women collected all the orders and just skipped me lol I said well I guess she say if she ain't drinking she ain't eating so my dad had to call her back and I order the chicken tortilla soup... It was a bit thick so we got another bowl and hot water and mixed it ... Long story short when she came back it was still a lot left so she goes you didn…

I am going to add some info, and I will probably add more later. I am 36 years old, morbidly obese, and a type II diabetic. At my heaviest, I weighed around 380 lbs. More recently, I have been hovering around 300 lbs, but my diabetes has been virtually uncontrollable. So, I decided in late August 2013 to attempt to qualify to have gastric bypass surgery. Long story short, and in what seems to be a miracle giving some other peoples experiences with doctors, insurance, etc, I was approved to have surgery on Oct. 1st. I am writing this post as one of the first things I am doing since returning home today from the hospital. My surgery went extremely well and I am…

Hi Everyone I am 46 yrs old, 4 days post op gastric sleeve and very much on my way to my new life! Surgery date: Oct 15, 2013. I'm 5'5" and weighed 268 lbs in August. I was at my GP's office for a check up and when I stepped on the scale and knew I could no longer live morbidly obese. I'd hewed and hawed for almost two yrs prior, also. So, here I am. Day before surgery my wt was 256. I return for post op visit on Oct 25. Your posts are inspiring and let me know I am not alone. I have chosen not to share the sleeve experience w/ my family yet, nor co-workers, although, I am rethinking this. I go back to wk on Monday and starting to worry I haven't taken enough ti…

Ill be meeting w my surgeon tomorrow to discuss my date. I haven't been able to sleep all weekend. All I can think of is how wonderful my life is going to be, how many more activities ill be able to do with my children, how ill be able to cross my legs, fit comfortably in a booth, how I won't be the "biggest" in the room... The list goes on and on. The one thing that I'm having a struggle with is wondering how I will look as a small girl. I've been morbidly obese for years an at one point I was extremely comfortable in my own skin, but after having kids my body grew larger and the confidence just changed. I can't wait to find that confidence and self love that I once had.…

I've been in a little stall for the last week or so at a pound away from 50. Just wanted to celebrate! My starting weight (July 15th) was 241, surgery weight (August 6th) was 227 & current weight is 191. 50 lbs gone in 3 months! I'm wearing size L/XL and 14/16 clothes and am so excited about shopping in regular size stores again. I feel good!

I am 36 years old mother of 3, and 6 years post op. I've had just about every possible side effect and have had to put it bluntly...I hate the way my experience has gone. I was HW 306 PRE OP 236 current weight 150 but fluctuates up and down. I've had to work hard at staying above 125lbs I got so ill from malnutrition from consuming not enough calories. I've struggled with deep depression bouts and even almost suicidal sometimes. I was a very happy and socially busy "fat gurl" but now I can honestly say I am a introvert have no close friends anymore and I look way older now I have over 16 lbs of skin in my mid section I hate it. My kids used to think I was fun and loved…

I have been able to lose weight on my own. But I don't see me being able to get where I should weigh. Those people i have talked to, says I can lose what I need to without surgery. I disagree. That is why I saw a Weight Loss Surgeon. I wish they knew how chubby feels like, I do.

I'm glad I found this site! I have experienced a lot of what people have posted! I thought I was going crazy. I have lost 31 lbs. The hunger pains I was not expecting I'm trying to cope with them and my old habits! When I'm hungry I want to eat and I try and go for old foods that I still have a taste for but my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I do exercise now which is great I started with on demand walking basics and then walking the track 1 mile a day! I am optimistic about losing the weight and feeling better which I do already! The recovery is a little more and different than I anticipated

Okay, we need a little fun here so here's my bad weak moment. Last night I woke up after a nap feeling like I needed something different than my wonderful puréed items, and I looked in the fridge and saw some COOKIE DOUGH! I felt like I had turned into a crazy lady and took two pinches, then swished it around in my mouth then quickly spit out. YES, I know us here are not suppose to do this, but I had a "CRAZY LADY MOMENT"

Hi everyone! Introducing myself since I just had my consultation on Wednesday and am officially on the road to getting sleeved. I toyed around with the idea of Lap Band two years ago, but never did it. It wasn't right for me and I'm so glad I didn't do it. I'm a blogger and I've been writing about my journey to a healthy life for just over two years. I wrote in detail about my consultation on my blog, so feel free to click here and check it out. My psych eval is scheduled for next Friday and then they can submit my paperwork to my insurance. I'm hoping to be sleeved the week before Thanksgiving. Let's get this show on the road! Thank you to all of you who post a…

Good Morning, My name is Jeanette, I am 30 year old, 5'4 and 240 lbs. I was so excited this morning because I got my surgery date set for Nov 7th! Now I am scared...I came on to start posting and another group caught my eye. I went in to Lap Band Complications and all these people are talking about erosion and dilated esophagus, ,revisions, slippage and removal....Seriously, this stuff happens? I want the lap band to help aid in my weight loss. I need to get healthy for myself and my children. I have tried everything to help but nothing. So I looked up lap band and it seems like a great tool in weight loss but now Im reading all those posts I am second guessing my d…

I had my one visit requirement with the dietician yesterday, she explained the rules of surgery and asked general questions about my health and diet. She advised me based on my insurance type, the time in between seeing her and having the surgery is typically 6 weeks, that made me really feel closer to my destination. She told me that the surgeon that's performing my surgery schedule fills up really fast and for me to call ASAP if I'm trying to have my surgery this year, I thanked her we ended the visit and as soon as I got to my car I called and schedule my first visit with the surgeon for oct 22 just a few days away. Once I have my second visit with the surgeon I will b…

I got my call today, YEA!!!!!!! I'm surprised that I only have to see a nutritionist once, watch a DVD and fill out some paperwork. I can't believe it's all happening so fast. Im more than thankful to myself for making that call. This all started just a few days ago and now I'm on my way. Finally I will become healthier and will have the body to match my personality and smile. It still hasn't all quite hit me yet. I'm so appreciative of this app and all of the people that are willing to share their advice and experiences, I'm sure I will have lots of my concerns eased and questions answered just from reading some of the threads.

Down about 113 pounds in the second picture. The 1st picture was from last Christmas, I was 7 months pregnant. The 2nd picture is from Oct 5. My surgery was March 25. It's a work in progress, my weight loss has really slowed down but my exercise has really picked up. Shooting to be under 200 by Christmas, not sure if it will happen but I'm working at it!

I'm Molly and I am 23 years old. I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday, October 17th, after 6 months of prep! You could say I gained the freshman 15 every year since I graduated high school and I just can't get it off. I worked 60 hours a week while going to college for 4 years, which left little time to take care of myself. I currently have a BMI of 40.1 and weight 246 (I've lost almost 10 pounds since starting my LSD). My goal is to lose 100 pounds. Very nervous and excited for Thursday!!!!

I was banded February 29th , 2012 . My starting weight before surgery was 262 lbs. My progress has been slow and steady . Overall, I don' t regret having the surgery because it changed and saved my life for the better. My current weight is 184 lbs and went from wearing a size 18 W to regular size 12 . I had to buy a lot of new clothes and love the way I look in skinny jeans. . Only a few people know about my surgery ....close relatives only . At work , no one knows and I get all these compliments , and sometimes I feel like a fraud . But I stop and think , wait a second I workout hard, and I made a decision to better my life ....why should I feel this way ? I'm learning…

Hi guys! I am coming up on the 5 months since I got my sleeve (May 28th). I am down 82lbs from 318lbs to 236lbs. I feel great, but have to work harder now to keep the calorie count down and the exercise level up. My weight loss has slowed, but I know what I need to do. I am still hoping to lose another 20-30 lbs. I'm in it for the long haul and hope I get there.

Well I did it. I had my vertical sleeve surgery! No pain, very little discomfort other than the J tube and as soon as my doc removed it even that discomfort ended. I was preparing myself for tons of pain and the fear of throwing up and I am happy to say I had none. No pain meds after I was discharged from the hospital. I was really nervous for my 2 week post op appointment I didnt know what to expect. But to my surprise I had lost 21% of my excess body weight already. I am hopeful for the near future.
