I got the call yesterday that surgery was approved!! I officially started my process on August 5 -- my 13th wedding anniversary -- when I completed my Weight Loss Surgery Seminar online and met for a face-to-face with the surgeon. At 267 at 5'7", my BMI was around 41, so I was an "automatic" approval, even with no weight-related comorbidities. My insurance, Cigna, still required the 3-month monitored diet (along with a few other minor hoops), which is 4 total nutrition visits. I saw the NUT about a week after I saw the surgeon, then about every three to four weeks, so not 30 days apart, but at least once per calendar month (so mid-August, early September, October, …

Hello. I'm fairly new here, I've posted a couple times and everyone has been so helpful and kind. I've scheduled my surgery for Nov 26 in TJ Mexico with Dr. Corvala. I had a lap band place in '05 by the same surgeon and had no problems until Oct 2012. I had it replaced with a new band that month and have had nothing but problems since. I'm ready to get it out! I'm excited to be rid off it but very nervous to be sleeved. I never fully lost al. The weight I wanted but I losses some and was happy and maintaining for all those years till the new band (placed here in the US) has caused havoc on my gut! Anyhow, my new adventure begins soon and I'm looking for any encourageme…

So I went to my doc for my 5 months weigh in after not weighing myself for a month and expecting a huge weight loss. To my greatest disappointment, I found out that I lost only 13lbs in two months. Really! Are you kidding me. I have never been so dedicated to anything in my life like I am now. I eat at least 75% less than what I used to eat or even less. I gave up juice, soda and only drink water or milk. I eat healthy now compared to before my surgery. I eat apple with peanut butter or yogurt with egg whites for breakfast, baked live chicken(homemade) with broccoli for lunch or beans, fruits with cheese for supper. For snacks-protein bar, yogurt, carrots, apple or banan…

As of this morning I am down 70 lbs. Woohoo! I started this journey last November when I inquired about weightloss surgery with my pcp. At that time my weight was 289 lbs. I got my referral to my bariatrics team (Dr Gould in Manchester, NH). I went to the info seminar in Dec of 2012. From that point on I started walking with a pedometer and watching what I ate. After jumping through many hoops and waiting for what seemed like forever I was finally sleeved on Aug. 26th. I weighed 266 when I started the pre-op diet. The day of surgery I weighed 251. Three days later I weighed 259. It's been 10 weeks since my surgery and I am now down to 219 lbs. I am r…

WOW!!! I'm not sure where to begin. I have always struggled with my weight, oh, I could lose10 pounds but they always returned with at least 10 or more friends. In August of this year, I was at my largest, we took a trip to Florida with the kids, my seat belt on the plane barely fit but I was too proud to ask for an extender, all I wanted to do was sleep, had no energy, just laid around. I have been a nurse for 12 years and have been Certified in Wound Care for 5 years now and I found myself diagnosing obese folks with leg ulcers from vein problems, lymphedema issues from obesity, and oxygen dependent in the wheelchairs in the airports and even around the pool on this…

Hi, I'm Jill and I'm new here. I have completed all my requirements for the sleeve, but it's been a long emotional road to say the least. I started with the requirements in August of last year. Everything was going fine with my appointments until the surgeon's office submitted my packet to United Health care before it was completed. Needless to say I was denied. Now I have BCBS insurance and a new surgeon! I'm just waiting to hear if I was approved and get my date!! I was told sometime in December. I'm so anxious I can't wait!! I am so ready for this that I approved by ready started my pre op diet and I'm down 11 lbs! Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself.

Today was my first appointment and being that I don't have much to do to get approved by my insurance company my doctor cleared me. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow and my evaluation is scheduled for next week. One final appointment December 11 and finally we can proceed with surgery. Super Excited!

I am a wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, nurse and dog owner. Not necessarily in that order. It seems like my whole life has been happiest when caring for others. Somewhere along the line, I forgot to care about me too. So, now I am doing something just for me! I am soooo excited. I would have left my conversation wih my surgeon and gone straight into surgery that day if it had been an option. Unfortunately, my insurance company inserted several hoops in my path between now and my gastric sleeve. I am truly hoping to have everything done in order to have a March 2014 surgery. Hoping to make some friends here along the way.

My surgery is on Nov 18, started my liquid diet a week ago. I did ok the first 2 days. I'm not hungry, but I've been emotional eating. I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to lose enough weight & shrink my liver enough & my surgeon won't do the surgery. I had lost 5 lbs, but I still have 2 weeks. I'm supposed to have 3 meal replacement shakes & 1 high protein, low fat , low carb meal a day. Need some encouragement please!

Hello I was revised from band to bypass on 10/9/13 .I couldn't pass gas on the 3Rd day and was in pain so my doctor did another surgery instead of a CT scan . He didn't find anything so on the 3Rd day from that surgery I had the same pains and requested for them to see if I had a bowel restriction. They did a CT scan and saw I did then my doctor did a third surgery and that time he cut me from above my belly button to about a half of foot. I been in the hospital almost two weeks then came out then back in. I'm healing slowly now with a wound vac because they sent me home with an infection. My journey has been hard . I just pray this whole ordeal is almost over. I've been …

Hello Everyone, My name is Rebecca. I guess this is my introduction story, so here it goes. In February of 2013 my husband suffered a stroke because he was a non compliant Type 2 Diabetic. Although I tried for years to make better meal choices for him, I really was very ignorant to proper carb servings, and portion control. We have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. At the time of his stroke our 2 boys were already grown and gone, but we still have our two daughters at home, a 17 and 6 year old. We went through 4 months of hospitals, physical rehabs and neurological rehabs for my husband. Here I was supposed to be helping him and it was all I could do to pu…

Right now I am so devastated I can barely type. My process began on March 20 2013, when I notified BCBS of Illinois concerning Bariatric Surgery. Below is a copy of the correspondence: 03/20/2013 18:44:00 -- Member Question: Hello Unfortunately, at this time I am looking into Bariatric Surgery at the recommendation of my internist. We have a Blue Distinction Bariatric Center in Portland. What are the different steps that Blue Cross requires, under my plan for this surgery. Response: Bariatric Surgery 03/21/2013 15:12:31 - HCSC Response: Hi Patrice, Surgical treatment of morbid obesity may be considered eligible for coverage when all of the physical, c…

I've been considering a lap-band for several years but when I found out about the sleeve, I knew it was exactly what I'd been looking for. Tons of research and a heart-to-heart with my husband later and I'm booked for October 30th in Mexico Ten years ago, I quit smoking--but I needed help to do it. I'm happily a decade out from my last cigarette, something I thought was the hardest thing I'd ever done. But I'm well aware this battle I have with my body is much more complex and difficult. And, yes. I need help with it. I'm actually excited at the thought of finally succeeding. I have plans in place--I'm fortunate to have been working on my emotional and mental issues …

So the last week in September I spoke to my Doctor about weight loss surgery/gastric sleeve, after doing months of research on it. This surgery just seems to make more sense to me. Of course like many of us I have always struggled with my weight my entire life. I have had ok years and I have had bad years. Due to stress and a bad break up I reached 280lb at 5'6. Since my highest weight I have been able to lose 20 of that. Although I am still over weight and unhappy speaking to my Doctor put me more at ease. She was able to understand my issues and weight struggle. Due to my insurance, 6 months of follow ups, surgery weight loss classes, and food tracking with the nutriti…

I am nervous and excited. I have been heavy my entire life. I can remember as far back as age 4 and having to shop at Sears in the Pretty Plus sizes for girls. Tomorrow will be the start of a new life for me. I would appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. My prayers are with all my fellow sleevers tomorrow.

Hi, I am eight years post-op. I went looking for this site last year when I was at a pretty low point in my life. I had my surgery, I had lost weight, I was successful in my career and I was wallowing in alcohol abuse. I was at a point where I was pretty much drunk all the time. I want to warn everyone..I know you (or maybe some of you) want to feel "normal". I wanted to not be the lady who had had the surgery, I wanted to be like everyone else. I went to parties, ate what I wanted (after all, I couldn't eat much) and also, drank what I wanted. The weight started to go back on. I told myself that I would lose it tomorrow. Tomorrow never came. I put on half of…

So I'm new to all of this, not sure if I am doing this right, sure you will let me know. I had my Gastric Sleeve on October 30th, 2013. I love Halloween(not for the candy) and thought to myself, its a good time to have surgery. I'm still sore and tire out easily but doing ok. I thought about having a Sleeve for about a year. I work as an RN in an operating room and see the surgeries every day. Perks of this, I really got to see how it all happens, ask lots of questions, and pick my team. I can't say how blessed I am for the care my friends gave me. I'm tired of the fluid thing already, craving pizza ( I did through my whole pregnancy) and sore. I am the third in l…

Hi everyone! My name is michelle. I started my journey in September. I have been so torn between the rny and sleeve. I looked into rny first then saw the sleeve and ever since then did not know which to pick. I love the research behind rny but I love the sleeves not so scary complications. My aunt had rny maybe 5-6 years ago and I know she had a lot of complications which makes me nervous and where I'm so young I'm so afraid I will deal with a lot of complications. I guess I just read way too many things. Anyways my surgeon is amazing at rny he has sooo many successful patients with it with minimal complications. I guess I just need some guidance in choosing. Help!

Hey guys I'm just bout a week out since my sleeve surgery as far as pain wise I'm doing great didn't really start to feel hungry till yesterday n boy was that a rough morning. This liquid stage is def not for me n kinda not looking forward to the next stage either. I knew it would be tough n Idc what anyone says u can prepare yourself mentally as much as possible pre op but once your post op the shock alone is enough to bring you down. Just really going through it n since I can't be active 24/7 in my down time I just beat myself up mentally n that is starting to put a strain on my personal life. Just hoping it gets better thanx for giving me a outlet to vent a bit.

I am a 31 year old mother of 7, our children range in age from 13 to 15 weeks. I am very excited about the major changes that I have already made in my life, and the even bigger changes that are yet to happen. I am from The Harrisburg Pennsylvania area, and I'm having my surgery threw the Kunkle Surgical group. I was required to see a psychologist, dietician, and have a sleep study during the 3 month wait period for my insurance. I would love to make some friends in the group for support and motivation as I go threw this journey. During my waiting period, I started exercising regularly and currently do 10 miles a day between my treadmill, elipitical, and exercising. And I…
