Am 5 days away from my banding. Opti fast is yucky but I made it through thanksgiving okay! I am 42 and at 310lbs I had to do something. I was a firefighter EMT for 10 years and then a 911 dispatch supervisor for 12. I am just so ready to start my journey, just worried I will fail... Anyone ever feel this way?

Well tomorrow, 12/2 is my surgery. I am not nervous yet, but I'm sure I won't sleep tonight. I didn't have it as tough as some others and had no pre-op diet. However, I will have a drain and a catheter. I maybe would have preferred the pre-op diet instead. I want to thank all the "veterans" on here for all your posts on various topics. Your posts have convinced me I can do it. Thanks to Laura-Ven, RJ's Beginning, Lipstick Lady, Gamer Girl, Butterthebean, Madame Reverie, Fiddleman and many others whose names I have forgotten. Hi there everyone! I am a 31 year old married mother of two miracle boys. I have finished all my pre-op testing and I am currently waiting for a surgery date for my sleeve. I have PCOS which is a hormone related endocrine disorder that places women at high risk for diabetes, infertility, heart disease and obesity. It also makes it very difficult to lose weight. I am wondering if there are any PCOS Sleevers out there who can share how the surgery has affected their PCOS symptoms, if at all. Thank you all for any information and all your inspiring stories!

Okay so I went to my seminar August 25, The next day they called and scheduled my appointment with the surgeon for September 25. The waiting for the first appointment was a killer, from there all of my appointments have been in October. The only appointment I have left is medical clearance and my three workshops. Which I could have gotten it all done in November and then had my surgery the beginning of December, but I have three children so I had to ask a friend if she could take them make sure they got to school on time did their homework all that wonderful stuff for at least two days for me. The only time she could do this would be the end of January so they rescheduled…

Three weeks ago today I was sitting in the hospital admitting area thinking to myself, “You can walk out of here right now and you’ll only be out $500.” I was terrified – terrified of the surgery, terrified of the recovery from the surgery, terrified of the future, terrified of my life post-op; I could go on and on. I was outright scared. Today, three weeks later, I’m at peace. I haven’t second-guessed my decision to have this surgery (it wouldn’t do me any good anyway). I’m at peace with my new tiny tummy. I try to make sure to drink/sip slowly and take tiny bites that I chew, chew and chew some more. I consider myself fortunate – I haven’t had any complications,…

I've only shared my surgery decision with a handful of close family members/friends & I don't want them to be worried so I don't talk about it around them much, so I'm so grateful to have a private group to share the good news that I officially started my pre-op diet today and am 7 days pre-op! My surgery is scheduled for 13 Dec. I had labs drawn yesterday morning, met with the surgeon and did admissions paper work at the hospital today, and am meeting with the nutritionist for a 2 hour "what to expect" appointment on Monday the 9th then surgery on Wednesday! I'm so excited I want these next few days to FLY by! I must admit though that I can already tell the pre-op…

Was sleeved on oct 28th. On my first week post op was down 14lbs. It was a struggle with shakes and vitamins and liquid. I finally can drink premier Protien vanilla and bariatrics chewable vitamins. The problem I'm having now is what to eat. It is 4 weeks today and I don't know what to eat. I have oatmeal, Greek yogurt, broth with a little pastina in it. But that's pretty much it. Anything solid than that feels like it's stuck it very uncomfortable Does anyone know where I can get recipes or other foods to try. Thank you

I am on the "mushy" diet. I am down 21lbs. I Haven't loss a pound this week and I am ok with that. I am slowly telling family members about my surgery and some are supportive and some are not. I am ok with that too. I can't wait to start back at the gym, and swim in a pool. I am so excited for my new life. I am proud to have patience with this, but by summer my goal is to be a lot smaller, and able to ride on rides with my girls!

Well I am 9 days post op....but lets start from the beginning. First I must say I NEVER thought I would do this. I had thought about it several months after having my second child, I was at my heaviest it seemed impossible. I finally called the doc found out some information and called my insurance....finding out it was covered 100% besides my co-pay of $200 and a $50 charge for the nutrition book. So I gathered my information and asked my husband what his thoughts were. His only questions were "What are the risks?" and "Is this what you really want?" I had my first doctors appoint, nutrition class, and psych eval on Oct. 23rd. Leading up to the surgery I was terrif…

The doctor doing the evaluation was actually a friend of my therapist's, so that was kinda cool. My insurance covered most of it, which shocked me. I got good scores on everything and was super amused to see one of the categories was how likely I was to take legal action after surgery. C'est la vie, as they say.

  27. Hi there. I was sleeved on 11/14/13, so I'm just over 2 weeks post-op. I've learned a lot in the past couple of months, since I decided to have VSG. The day before surgery and the day of surgery, I almost backed out...multiple times. I was scared and feeling like I would regret going through the surgery. I was thinking about all the things I wouldn't be able to eat. I would no longer be able to enjoy food like I had in the past. I wouldn't be able to go out to dinner with friends and family and Celebrate. The morning of my surgery while I was in admitting, I thought to myself, "You can leave right now and you'll only be out $500." I was tempted. Then I looked …

I am 9.5 months post op and down 113 lbs. I can't complain i guess! I'm just wondering what people are eating this far out of surgery and about how many calories everyone is consuming in their average day?? I still would like to lose another 40 lbs or so. It's getting way harder to lose now! I am committed to the gym and eat pretty healthy. I just have these stalls. Or 1 week I'll go up 1 or 2 lbs out of nowhere. It drives me crazy! Ope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was fantastic. Spent the better part of the week at my brother's home. The hustle and bustle of getting ready for the holiday was exhilarating. Wednesday, my godson was off from work. We woke up early, went to pick up the pies and then I took him to a pancake house for Breakfast. Being on liquids, i just sipped my Water, while Jace drowned his chocolate chip pancakes in syrup and dunked his bacon in the syrup. Afterwards, we went back home and he performed for me. He is 10 and musically, gifted. Played the drums for a while, then got on his piano and played Bach and Chopin for me. Anyway, yesterday, we all decided t…

  36. Well I told a story a couple months ago that I developed ulcers due to acid..well went in for my 6 week endoscopy, the ulcers had healed but I was left with Barret's Esophagus (pre-cancerous condition of the esophagus). I don't understand how my acid reflux got so out of control. I try not to let it get to me but when the doctor mentioned the big C word (cancer) it really worries me since I have 2 small children to raise. I read that Esophageal Cancer is a lethal form of cancer and very hard to get rid of..with a high mortality rate. That really scares me. I like that I've lost almost 100 lbs but it's not worth being sick. I just pray that nothing comes of the Barret's. T…

I was glad when my Surgeon stated they had to rethink that all bariatric patients could get off Insulin. I knew I never would but it would be reduced. Well miracles are happening. i was sleeved November 19th and already down 28 LBS. In the Hospital i brought my own insulin as they never know what amount to give me form past experience. Before surgery I took 120 units of Lantus, 2000 Glucophage (Since 1990) and anywhere from 140-300 units of Novalog a day. Of course I knew it would be reduced more than 80%. I debated end…

Losing weight like crazy, blood sugars totally normal for the first time in years, I have energy, spunk, and feel like I was born again. Best decision ever. Day 8 I was back to work where I'm on my feet 8 hours a day. No food has made me ill. I'm not sure how much I'm able to consume because I haven't pushed it to see, but easily a cup without any hiccups or weird body signals to stop. So, yes, I've been very fortunate. Hello all, I just had my gastric sleeve done yesterday 11/26 and I think I'm doing pretty well. I wanted to tell you about some of the things I am experiencing so you'll be expecting them. When I woke up in the recovery room, my first words were "no turning back now" --- don't know where that came from, but it's true! I was in the recovery room for hours because I was experiencing a lot of distress from the gas. They pump your abdomen full of gas so they have more room to maneuver, and they actually pull your stomach outside your body through one of the small incisions they make. The gas pressure was so intense that I really couldn't get relief from it. It felt like a…

Hi 15 days post op and I am not losing anymore weight but the 30 pounds so far, actually I think I gained 2 pounds but I think that is from fluid intake I drink over 64 ounces a day and also it might be muscle growth because I walk a mile and a half a day at least 40 minutes brisk walk. I read so much about the stall and I guess it will just go its course. I will remain vigialant and only weigh myself once a week instead of every morning. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

And I'm doing great! I was sleeved on Nov. 18. I will admit, the 2 days in the hospital were tough. I also had a hernia repair. Came home and tolerated clear liquids really well. No nausea, gas wasn't an issue, and no throwing up. Weighed myself this morning and I'm down 27 lbs. Moved right out if the 300's! Moved to Premiere Protein shakes this week and they have not settled well with me. Finding that soy milk is working better. Those of you that were lactose intolerant after surgery, did it eventually go away or is this going to be a forever thing?
