4 weeks post op and went back to work at my 12 hour shift. It was a very rough day to say the least but my body didn't feel like it while I was doing my job. Now that I'm home I'm miserable and having sharp pains pretty consistently in my back and stomach. I thought it might be constipation so took some MOM and it helped pass some stuff but hasn't helped with the sharp pains. Anyone have any similar thing happen when going back to work? Otherwise I've been pretty textbook I think. Don't want to call my dr unnecessarily but probably will if it doesn't stop in the next 2 hours. I'm due back at work at 5:30 am and really can't afford to miss.

I am so excited but nervous, I am living in Bridgeport, & my Dr's office called me today my insurance covers my surgery, yay????...Had my seminar last night Dr seemed very educated, although I researched him before going to the seminar, so now I start. I was hoping to he approved now I am nervous, my entire family had HBP, Diabetes, Heart related issues u name it. I don't want to get there. Is this so bad wanting a tool to assist me in making better choices so that I can live long enough to see my kids grow up(3 yrs & 17yrs) is it cheating when others are killing them selves at the gym? Wow so many unanswered questions. But still feeling blessed for this opportuni…

It's been 3 months since I've started this weight loss journey. Everyday is a struggle mentally and physically, but I will not give up! I'm more happy then I've been about myself in a long time and this was the best decision I've ever made! Here's a few pics of me.

Im scheduled to have my surgery in 2 more days!! After years of planning and saving...I'm seriously about to freak out! I went on a 6 day fast and lost all my required weight only 14 lbs and they approved me to eat low fat low carb meal 1x a day and 2 shakes! Been doing ok but I keep hearing all these people talking bout a 2 week or even a one week liquid? Why wasn't i on that? And liver shrinkage? Great what if that is too big?

Hello everyone, newbie on the block here...LOL. I'm scheduled to have my Gastric Sleeve procedure on December 31 2013, Couldn't think of any better way to bring in the new year other than a $30,000+ surgical party in the OC (Orange County, Ca)!! These are going to be the longest 21 days in my life filled with all kinds of emotions... Wish me luck :-)

I had surgery Oct 1st. I would like to hear from anyone that had surgery that same day and how your progress is going. I have lost 33 lbs. I feel like I should have lost more at this point. I am trying to do all the right things..protein, exercise, etc. I do feel sometimes I am hungry but I know it's head hunger. Thanks for any input you can give with telling me your story.

In 2005 I got the birth control shot and picked up 100 lbs in 1 year. Plus since my appetite increased I of course ate more! Now I just can't get rid of the weight. I am married and have a 2 yr old son. My parents have high blood pressure. My mom and grandmother both had strokes. So getting this weight off and wanting to eat better is a priority for me. I am so scared I will have one. I started this process in June 2013 and now waiting for Aetna to approve me! I pray I can get this surgery by the end of the year.

It's been a while since I posted anything so I thought I would send a quick update. Surgery was 12/13/12 and as of this morning I'm at 119 lbs. (I'm 4 '11 & 1/2 start weight was 246) I can't believe how fast this year has gone by and how much my life has changed. I am truly a participant in life and no longer a spectator. I am proud of how I look, I am confident and healthy. I jump on trampolines with my kids, dance like nobody is watching and run to the car when it's rainy. All things I would have never done a year ago. I've learned so much about who I am and, yes, I'm sorry to say I've learned a lot about who other people are too. In a lot of ways it makes me sad to…

I'm still in shock! I bought 3 different pairs of pants yesterday in a size 10. All different brands, so it wasn't just a fluke. The first picture is a month before surgery and 2 weeks before my pre-op diet. The second picture is me in my new size 10 jeans. I'm down 102 lbs in 10 1/2 months!

Today is a milestone for me. I have made the appointment to start my 3 month supervised diet with the surgeon/nutritionist/counselor. I have so many feelings- but mostly I feel relief. Relief that I am finally going to be able to do something to help me feel better and get my life back. I have be blessed with 4 beautiful children and I want to feel like doing all the things they need and want me to do. I am 5'3" and weigh 225ish; no co-morbidities (yet) to speak of but lots of things coming from my being too heavy (bladder problems, joint problems, pain, etc.) I have considered this for 2 years and researched and prayed. I think it is finally going to work out this…

Thanks for indulging me in a little patting myself on the back. I limped into the information session at a morbid 347#. I was sleeved on halloween at 322#. Today I weighed in after my shower and it read 283#. It's been a long time since I've seen a number that low and it feels great. Along with my clothes hanging off me, my mobility is greatly increased. Several people have told me "wow, you look really young." I am loving this sleeve. I am so glad I made that decision back in April! To you pre-surgery folks, be patient and have hope. It'll be here before you know it and it's worth it!

Metabolism I rarely hear that word mentioned on the board. I'm hearing people say they are eating 600,800,1000 cal diets post op. Does that affect metabolism? I guess I'm asking about the whole starvation mode idea that's been taught over and over again.

I'm new to this site, but wanted to share my journey. After being diagnosed with chronic sleep apnea in May of this year, I knew that I had to do something about my weight. I already had diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol and the sleep apnea diagnosis sent me over the edge. After talking to my primary care doctor and getting a referral, I made an appointment to see Dr. Amin.

Hey everyone out there!! I'm Shannon. My surgery was 11/26 in Tupelo, MS. I was 319 the week before surgery and am 292 today! I can already see changes in my body-- my skin is clearer, my jeans are looser and .... I have ankles! I am so incredibly excited about this journey. I feel better today than I have in probably 5 years. Surgery was not as bad as I thought it would be. I pretty much slept and walked the whole time I was in the hospital (not at the same time...) Once home, I found sleeping on a sofa was much easier than a bed-- lower to the ground, something to hold on to to help roll over. My skin incisions have been a little uncomfortable…

I'm 26 years old from NYC. My obesity problems began in my teen years and now I'm at my worst. I'm 5'4 and weight 253 pounds. I'm tire of looking at my self and feeling disgusted by what I see. I don't let my husband see me. On Aug of 2012 my mom told me about her friend who got the gastric bypass at ST. Lukes hospital so I decided to make an appointment. On Sep 12 I went for my first visit and seminar. On Oct 17 went for my second visit and submitted all paper work and was scheduled for surgery Dec 2. On Nov 4 all paper work was submitted to insurance and on Nov 6 my surgery was approved. Im so excited and happy this is the best Christmas present.

In April 2013 I was 265 pounds 5 11" and considered obese 4-6X men's clothing in addition Type 2 Diabetes, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, 4 Cardiac Stents, COPD. He told me I am a candidate with BMI over 35 with co morbidities. First reaction was no way then thought about it. June 2013 made appointment for Sleeve consultation. Approved, 2 weeks later surgery date 9/6/13. Had no support from wife, children, siblings, nobody. Kept researching and was going to go through it. Was I ready for permanent change for life? New eating patterns, exercise, was starting to question myself "I am not hat type of guy" however most of my issues were due to being overweight. This m…

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum!!! I have my VSG scheduled for January 13, 2014. However, the program I am in at BJH in St. Louis requires that you "weigh-in" prior to surgery - they want to make sure that you dont gain a substantial amount of weight pre-op (no more than an avg of 10 lbs). I weigh in on December 18, 2013 - 12 days from now. However, the only diet we are given to follow pre-operatively is a 1400 calorie diet. Does anyone have any advice on how to maintain or lose the weight? I lost a few pounds I think (although different scales vary). Should I start a clear liquid diet to be safe? Apparently they are allowed to postpone your surgery if you weigh more…

Hello! My name is Laura and I live in the St Louis area. I work in IT and have for about 18 years. I had sleeve surgery Monday, Dec 2. My insurance at work finally decided to cover most of the costs so I decided it was time. I am 49 and really didn't want to turn 50 overweight, hence my handle. I originally had decided to get the band but then did more research at the urging of my endocrinologist. She had suggested the sleeve and after doing research (and watching a procedure on YouTube) I decided that's what I wanted to do. So far I'm doing great physically with only a little bit of pain but a TON of burping. Fortunately I had someone who gave me advice before surg…

Hey everyone that had surgery in September, how is everything going almost a month out. I had my surgery on the 4th and I am returning to work next week. I have lost a total of 25 lbs. I am going by the weight before the liver shrink diet. I am able to eat anything pretty much. I only threw up twice both when the chicken was too dry and reheated. When I get backed up, I found that eating a bowl of raisin bran cereal sends me to the restroom within 1 day. I bought me a few winter dresses several sizes too small and hope to be down at least another 30 lbs by Thanksgiving. (45 pounds would be even better) :-)

Thank God I dont see that. I think if it was infected I would have a fever or something obvious. Lets see what happens. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

I've just joined this forum. I'm Italian, 61 years old. I've been banded since may 10th 2011. I've lost 50 kg (about 100 lbs) . I've gained 5 kg back, but I think it is something that happens to most people. My band is my best friend. When I had my lap band surgery I knew it was the last chance life was giving me e that, if I failed, I would live (and die) as an obese. This is the reason why I'm determined to make my band work. Here in Italy, when there are no more chances left, we say "it's my last shore". I hope you can help me not to give up..

I'm getting banded on 12/5. Excited but nervous. I'm hoping it all goes as well as I'm anticipating. I'm currently on the pre op diet. Drinking Isopure Protein shakes (yuck). Anyways, I was was watching a DVD that the doctors office gave me and it has the 8 rules for success. In the DVD they say that people who drink wine with dinner actually have greater weight loss success and they encourage wine with dinner (limited of course). Well... Yay. Lol Does anyone enjoy wine with dinner? Are your results ok?

Although my physical pain (incisions) seem to be getting more tolerable, gas pain can still be pretty intense still even with me doing all the suggestions on how to get through it. My main worries are not having any appetite and trying to intake 60-80 grams of protein as well as general 64oz of water throughout the day...I'm pretty much forcing myself to drink..should I really be worried so early out of surgery?

Good morning all. I'm now two weeks post surgery and I'm very pleasantly surprised at how smoothly things have gone so far. I'm a 56-year-old guy and I weighed 345 at surgery and at my ten day pos-op appointment I was at 325. Whoa! I have graduated to one Protein shake a day and soft chicken, turkey, and fish. So far, so good. My biggest challenges so far have been forcing down enough liquid and Protein shakes. Oh, and although I'm not hungry at all, I REALLY want to go buy a box of fried chicken and scarf that stuff down. Old habits die hard I suppose. Based on my experience so far, I would wish this on anyone thinking about surgery. I had a lot of angst going …

My doc said I am not allowed to drink my calories including protein shakes. he said to get bars if I must do protein. Can you recommend a good one? I was all set to buy protein powder as I really haven't done the bars. it's to curb hunger in a pinch and have something for when I don't have time to make my lunch. Thanks a bunch.

Hi, All, I just joined the forum. I am scheduled to have lap band surgery on Monday, but almost backed out today at my preop visit. I stumbled upon some facebook groups that had members that were very against lapband. I decided in the beginning that I didn't want to have RNY because I don't want to have parts of my stomach/intestines removed/rerouted. I have about 80 lb to lose. The before-mentioned groups strongly tried to convince me not to go through with it. They listed issues such as fibromyalgia, autoimmune problems, arthritis, etc, as complications. I don't want to fix one problem in my life, only to cause a whole slew of other problems, possibly much worse.…
