Today marks one year for me! This time last year I was nervous and excited all at once! I am down almost 60 pounds. It been a very slow and steady pace and I am so ok with that. I'm about 4 pounds from my goal. (I was on the smaller size didn't think I would get approved) besides the scale going downward my NON SCALE VICTORY included great blood work. All my lousy number are down! From cholesterol to sugar to blood pressure! I have a lot more energy ! My clothes fit so much better! I like that I don't have this obsession with food anymore! I'm ok with a small amount! We as American eat entirely to much! Too bad it took me too long to figure it out! Loving the new me!!!!!

Hello all! I began lurking since June 2013 when I decided to have VSG. At the first meeting with surgeon, they said I didn't have any restrictions and could have surgery ASAP. I started doing all required dr visits immediately. A few days later surgeons office called- they were wrong about no restrictions. I had to have 6 months dr visits and 5% weight loss. Not only that, I found out insurance didn't cover hospital I was using, and now have to use a surgeon that is about 2 hours away. At first I was crushed and felt defeated. I quickly gathered my thoughts and realized this was a good thing. The time allowed me to really prepare myself mentally and to have my whole…

My journey has been a nightmare but I'm trying to stay positive. I started in April. I had all of the testing required, blood work, x-ray, endoscopic testing, psych eval, ect. I did all of my weight visits as well. My surgery was scheduled for November. Unfortunately, my insurance prevented coverage so they rescheduled for December because I would have a new policy. Mid November I went to the surgeon and found out that the surgeons were leaving the practice/hospital. I was notified that I could go to Pittsburgh. I live in Erie so it's a drive but I didn't care. I then got a call and their was no doctor in Pitt that did sleeve which was what the doctor recommended. …

I'm now on a full liquid diet not bad at all; but I get full extremely fast. If your newly out like myself hows it going for you.

Although through all that time all I ate was ice chips... I was released home a day before thanksgiving.... Thanksgiving passed and I had a slice of apple & sucked on an orange (but didn't eat it) I guess I experienced dumping & dehydration that night because I was super cold, dizzy, couldn't walk, nausea, (threw up a little blood) and diarrhea (so I thought) while in bed I couldn't get up so I…

My Laproscoptic procedure failed when my surgeon accidentally cut my colon and didn't know it. I was in recovery when my wife asked a nurse if the drainage bag was supposed to be red like blood. Yes yes she answered, at three the next morning my surgeon called her and said I was in trouble and he doesn't think he'll be able to save me. However I suppose it wasn't my time, I kept right on breathing, my wife said my blood pressure got down to 60/32 but it was there. The surgeon, of course, had to open me from sternum t…

I'm still in the hospital from Monday. All my surgery mates went home yesterday. I'm struggling trying to pass gas and forget about pooping. I've been walking the halls like a mad women and drinking warm. Nothing seems to work. Any tips or tricks out there? Last night I got a fever of 100.2 they have me swallow Tylenol. That was awful because the pills got stuck. I got a sinus infection too so they started me on antibiotics by mouth yesterday. It's been not so great so far. I'm blessed that things haven't been worse. I really want to pass this gas!

  27. Ok..i had the surgery on Monday.. Was drinking fine at the hospital.. But ever since yesterday I get chest pressure that really really hurts.. I also cannot keep much down. Seemed as though the liquids I am drinking sits on my chest.. Then comes that feeling of pressure. Then a couple of minutes later Ithrow up what I just drank. Has anyone expected this.? Are the chest. ,pain due to gas. I am taking nexium and gas x strips. Are all these symptoms normal.? Btw I had the band to sleeve revision.

My inlaws drove over that morning to be with me and with my husband while he waits and I can tell that my MIL is sooo nervous, she keeps rubbing my arm. So I just booked my surgery with Obesity Control Center in TJ. I started researching WLS last spring and finally settled on VSG with Dr. Ariel Ortiz and Dr. Arturo Martinez. I would encourage anyone in the "research stage" to contact Obesity Control Center with any questions about the procedure and/or their facility. Carolyn has been very helpful and quickly responded to my dozens of emails. Never once did I receive an unsolicited phone call or email. They are extremely no-pressure when it comes to your decision to book your surgery with them (or not). Anyways, within hours of scheduling, I received several emails with all the info I need from a helpful preop checklist…

Ok folks, I recently found comfort in reading a day to day from a previous forum member that went through their own sleeve surgery, so I will do the sane in hopes of maybe helping someone else and also as an "anxiety" relief and feedback/support. 6 days away from surgery - 12/16 is the big day. I am 5'10 woman early 30's and weigh 275 as of today. Tomorrow I see my doc and clinic/hospital for final steps - anesthesia convo, etc. In preparation for this my insurance and doctor requested documented alternative methods of weight loss programs, blood work, psych eval, nutritionist, ekg, attended his orientation class, chest xray, endoscopy and did not do ab ultrasound …

I know it’s time to start changing it up – I have to the break the vanilla, strawberry and chocolate barrier. This week I found a sample pack of Health Wise Soups that I forgot I purchased before surgery. Jackpot!!!!! The Cream of chicken was so good – it has a little less protein (15 grams vs. 20 with a shake), but that 5 grams of protein was worth my sanity that night. I have also had the chocolate mixed with warm 1% milk and some sugar-free peppermint syrup. That was a nice treat on a cold, snowy n…

Hi everyone! My name is Amanda. I'm so happy to have found a place to talk with other people. I had gastric bypass on November 12th. This past Friday I had my 2 week post-op visit, since October 24th, I've lost 34lbs. I also started the puréed stage of my diet on Friday. I have good days & bad days(mostly good). On the occasional bad day, I feel like this process isn't going to be successful. Sometimes I can't see the finish line(not that there is a finish, I know it's life long). But most days, I am excited for the future. I have a five year old son & a husband that give me motivation. I'm curious to meet others & see their journey!

  50. As of this morning, I am officially OVERWEIGHT!! I started this journey almost 7 months ago (May 16 '13) at 263.8. I was a tight size 20 bottom, XXL top, 42DDD boobs and a BMI that labeled me morbidly obese. As of today, I am 168.8, only 8.8 pounds away from my original goal (which I've since lowered but...). I am in a loose size 12 but could move into 10s if I liked the pants tight look. I wear a size L top but everyone says a Medium looks better. My boobs are now a 36D and my BMI has finally hit OVERWEIGHT!!! I am so freaking happy. I haven't been this size since college. I've lost exactly 95 pounds and my new mini goal is 100 pounds by Christmas!!
