Did the pre op testing yesterday. I've been doing a 1200 calorie diet for 2 weeks now. Now I start on a more restricted diet: v8, oatmeal, cottage cheese, soups, sugar free jello, protein shakes. I can only eat those foods but I have to get in 80 grams of protein. Upper GI on Saturday. Anyone else in this stage of the process?

I think I've started to think that the band is the way to go. I just am curious because it is such a new procedure, how many of you had it and what kind of complications you may have encountered. Also, it is reversible, correct?

It went really good! I had an EKG and with great results and he said my heart sounds real good! He said he is clearing me for surgery. He is having me go for an echocardiogram on Friday and then I see him again on the 7th. I am nervous because my appointment with him is at 1:15 and then I have my psych eval that day at 3 at a different location. So, I need to figure out how to get from one place to the other! That stresses me out! . I wish everything was in my own town because i would be familiar!! I was really disappointed! When I weighed myself a couple weeks ago I was at 278 and when they weighed me I was at 290. Ugh!!

Hello Everyone!! This week makes 4 weeks since I had my Revision surgery from lap band to VSG! When I started my weight loss surgery I weighed 250 lbs. The day of my revision I weighed 208.6 lbs. Last week I weighed 195 lbs, on Monday I weighed in at 192lbs. So far after revision I have lost 16.6 lbs slow but steady! I'm relearning how to eat. It is very different from the lap band! I hope everyone is doing great!! Happy new year!!

Hello! I have been interested in Lap Band for about a year and a half, but this past July I finally made the step to seek out a doctor and begin the visits. My doctor ended up closing his office in my city so I have been having to drive 2 hours to every appointment. I almost gave up and looked for a closer doctor but I had already done 2 or 3 of my necessary 6 month appointments per my insurance so my mom talked me into not switching and starting over. But now my surgery is scheduled for December 30, 2 1/3 hours away from my home and well I am going to go through it but it has become way more expensive than I thought, for me as a single mom. I am kinda hoping that after …

  15. I am a newbie to posting here - actually to posting anywhere, but here is my story. It took me almost a year to be certain this surgery was the path for me and to get through the preparation. I had my sleeve surgery on 12/3/13 and was completely confident that it was the right decision for me. I started to feel better as soon as I started on Optifast, which my surgeon requires for two weeks prior to surgery. I was disappointed that I only lost 15 pounds because I have seen on this forum where many people lost a lot more. My surgery went well, and my only issue was mild nausea, but I only spent one night in the hospital. My surgeon requires 2 weeks of full liquids follow…

Ok so I am a nurse and scheduled for sleeve surgery 2/24. Being in the medical field makes these things a little more difficult as I sometimes know too much for my own good. So as far as drains post op, I have been very apprehensive questioning my surgeon too much about it. He had mentioned to me that he does not leave an NG tube (tube up the nose into the stomach) or a drain unless necessary. So my question is, what kind of drains did you guys have? Is it common to have a Foley (catheter in the bladder)? Thanks everyone!

  22. I had my six-week follow up with my local doctor yesterday – to say I’m happy is an understatement. Although I’ve complained about my weight loss in other posts and lamented about being a slow loser, I am happy with the way things are going. I don’t use my doctor’s numbers to track my weight because it’s inconsistent – they weigh with clothes on, sometimes shoes on (depends on the nurse), I wore heavy jeans yesterday compared to lighter capris the last time, etc. I use my Thursday weigh-ins on my home scale to track my loss. So, I’m down almost 41.8 pounds from my high weight and 24 since surgery. Wow! Writing that is surreal. My body fat has been decreased by 5%…

Often here people use the term "slip" as some sort of rationale for making a decision to eat something. It is an old term that in the 12-step world is used....but is inappropriate. By definition a "slip" is. 1.an act of sliding unintentionally for a short distance. synonyms: false step, misstep, slide, skid, fall, tumble ! a fall to a lower level or standard. OR. 2. a minor or careless mistake. synonyms: mistake, error, blunder, gaffe; If I were to eat a meatball that was filled with bread and didn't know it, that would be a slip; if I were drink a beverage I thought was sugar free, but wasn't, that's a slip.
