I just got my VSG sleeve on 12/30/13. I am so glad I gave myself this present for Xmas. I started this journey at 271 pounds an would like to get down to at least 160 or so. The 2nd and 3rd day post op was the toughest. I was nauseas a little but the pain in the middle incision where they did the hernia repair was the most painful. I am now in the 5th day of post op an am feeling pretty good but for some reason I cannot seem to quench this thirst. Does anyone have any suggestions. Please post your story, updates an progress. It will be great to get support an give support on this phenomenal journey we all on this site have started.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I will anyway. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass feb 5th I already know my drs plans for pain management afterward but should my husband be taking time off of work to help me with my kids? Or will I be ok to function on my own with them when I get home from the hospital they are 5, 3, and 2 but my 5 year old goes to school. I know I have a good pain tolerance because when I had my csections I didn't take any pain killers I was sore but it was manageable. Thanks in advance

I'm 16 months post op from my sleeve and now pre op for my bypass due to acid reflex it is unbearable none of the meds work ... Sleepless nights are killing me lack of nutrition due to this acid that doesn't let me eat ... I I've tired to avoid anything that triggers acid reflex but no result ... So my surgeon put this plan into work by converting me this will stop the acid reflex !! Let's see how this turns out hopefully it stops...

Very nervous, getting excited, lost 9lbs on the pre-op diet, excited with my FitBit and WiFi scale to track, but just a little nervous to be going under (did once for my tonsils). Tough to see some foods you know you can't have for awhile, I won't say never, but I hope I can use this as a tool and form better eating habits that I stick to after 8-10 months and don't just stick smaller bites of cookies in my mouth - lol ... I eat for emotional reasons at times, and finding a new outlet for that will be key. Just venting with this post and alleviating some of my nervousness. Thanks for listening and I'll try to post later today, wish me luck!

Started this journey a year ago and had to put everything on hold until January of 2014 because of a dumb preexisting clause with my new insurance company. I restarted the process in Nov and had lab work and upper GI done. Met with nutritionist and will have my psych eval on Sat. Once it is complete my doctor will submit paperwork for approval of surgery. The nerves about getting approved that I read from everyone on here are already setting in. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and my doc said that my policy does include wls so that's a positive note. I am so ready to have this done. I have two children in elementary school and it will be so nice to not be ti…

Jan 20 I will complete my insurance required supervised diet. What should I expect? I'm nervous and anxious. Any advise or suggestions on what's next. I know I will need to get a referral to see the surgeon and then get my eval and play the waiting game for my insurance to approve. I can't believe it the day is almost here to finally know if I will qualify or not. I've been looking forward to this, but scared of rejection. I've lost 46 total pounds so far on the diet.

This week I reached a small milestone in my weight loss. Purchasing regular size clothing. Its been 15 years. This journey is only 3 months tomorrow and I feel my body and my mind change. I don't regret for a minute this decision. 47 pounds and many inches. I got this. What was your first major milestone?

Hello Everyone!! This week makes 5 weeks since I had my Revision surgery from lap band to VSG! When I started my weight loss surgery I weighed 250 lbs. The day of my revision I weighed 208.6 lbs. Last week I weighed 192 lbs, on Monday I weighed in at 190 lbs. So far after revision I have lost 18.6 lbs! I was kind of sad that I'm losing so slowly. But then I did the math! Lol if I keep losing 2 lbs a week I will be at my weight goal of 160 in like 3 1/2 months so I will totally take it! I have lost 60 lbs since the beginning and I can't wait to reach goal!! I really hope I could be under 185 for valentines! Let's see! Hope everyone is doing great!! Love reading all ur in…

I have my consultation with the surgeon Monday (already did info seminar, psych eval, nutritionist). My surgeon offers the SPIDER method of surgery for band and sleeve where she operates only laparascopically through the belly button (no other incisions) and uses the SPIDER tool to actually do the surgery inside. I want to do this for my sleeve rather than have the 4 - 5 small incisions. I know that you have to qualify for the spider (e.g., torso has to be a certain length, no other scar tissue, etc.). Anyone have the sleeve using the spider technique? If so, can you share any insight into healing time and whether you were still very sore? I think it would be nice…

Hi, I had Roux-en-y surgery in Oct 2009. At 5'1", I weighed 194 pounds. I got to 132 pounds, a place I was very comfortable at, although 125 would probably be better. I maintained my weight for the first 3-1/2 years, but over the past 6 or so months, I have put on 10-12 pounds. I haven't been separating my liquids and solids probably since the beginning and without realizing it, I was dumping much more than I should have, and I worry that I may have stretched my pouch a bit. Looking for support and am more than willing to offer my support to anyone!

I am 8 days post-op and am feeling pretty good! That is until today... I woke up mad! And I don't mean just a little mad, I mean uncontrollable mad. The biggest thing is I don't even know why. I feel like I'm just going to blow up at anyone that talks to me. Anyone else have this happen to them.

I live in Chicago so I don't have to say anything about the weather. I have been thinking about what kind of exercise I would do during this cold months. I am going to get another Wii because my first one was stolen. I was thinking I need something else so I finally decided to get a bike. I did physical therapy this summer for my knees and an exercise bike was part of my routine and I did pretty good with it. So I thought it will be better for me than a treadmill. So it will be on by January 14 and hopefully surgery will be not too far behind. I will keep everyone posted on what happens.

Yesterday I had a lot of feelings of anger. I am almost 4 weeks out and am wondering if this is me getting frustrated with my lack of control. Or almost me being in the angry stages of morning the good bye to binges. My anger started at an under armor outlet with my family. My mom a fit 5'8 woman size 12/14 did not fit into their XL clothes, but my overweight father 42 inch wisest had no problem finding his size. It really upsets me how this country/ world is seeming so much more ok with overweight men than woman. Arg! I got really frustrated with myself because as the day went on I could tell I was being very short with my son. My flight home was cancell…

I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom & hunger. I had 6 years of great work with my 10cc Band and then Cancer showed on the mammogram. That was like a bomb to my everyday emotions and the way I brought myself out of the pit was pleasurable living by eating gooooood food. One year later I'm told the Cancer is gone after the surgeries and my Bariatric Center & surgeon just smile and say, "we'll see you in a year!". No mental help there. (My insurance pays for annual Lap Band checkups!) I live way out here in the boondocks and don't know where to go next. I've had an appointment with my Nutritionist, but most of our conversation was on…

Well today is day 4 of my pre-op diet (round 2 b/c surgery was pushed back). I'm really struggling with hunger. I had a slip yesterday and I think that is causing the hunger to come on very strong. I have my food planned out for the day -- high Protein & veg, low carb (max 800 calories, 100 g carb, min 60 g protein). I am due to have a yogurt this afternoon and am trying to wait as long as possible so that it can carry me through dinner. I don't know how people are able to stick to this. If I could do this, I would not be here. It was a struggle to stick to 1400 calories a day. Arg. I understand the point of it, and want my surgery to go well, but it…

I had the lap-band done before most insurances covered it and went to Mexico and had it done with absolutely no problems by Dr. Rodriques, about ten years ago. All went very well with the surgery. When I came back afterward Dr. Snow in Decatur, Tx agreed to do my follow-up and fills. I had about three fills , my last one being over seven years ago , done manually in the office. I have not needed one since then. I moved from that area about seven years ago and have not been back to a lap band doctor since .I still am controlled by the band and over the years have fluxuated in gaining and losing l0 lbs of the 80 I lost during the first six months after the band was in…

Guess I'm on the Fence. So many other health issues that I need to deal with. I know I'm an emotional eater so I think that regardless, some days are better than others, I just need to stay focused. I'm diabetic as well, T2 w/ meds. With all the posts I've read of folks falling off the wagon regardless of being banded I have to stop and question myself. Is this the right path for me? Or do I just need more time with a counsellor about my emotional bagage. The band isn't a cure all, this i know, but it is a physical reminder that you can't go and eat whatever and get away with it. Likewise, being diabetic, I can either follow my diet and eat what my body can handle or eat …

My sleeve surgery was performed Monday, 12/30/2013 at 4:00 pm. Because it was such a late surgery time, I had all afternoon to think about how hungry and anxious I was. My doctor prescribed a medicine for before surgery, Emend (it's a little pricey.. $45) and the pro-op nurses had put a nausea patch behind my ear. Surgery was a piece of cake, once the anesthesia hit I was long gone. About an hour and a half later, I was 1 hiatal hernia and 75% of my stomach less. I had no idea I had a hiatal hernia but was thankful the doc was able to give me a 2-for-1!! I remember being in post-op and itching like crazy due to the anesthesia and pain meds. I stayed the night in th…
