I just had my surgery 10/23 I'm 6 days post op n I feel great! Surgery went great n yes I did feel pain once I woke up n was already in my recovery room but lil by lil I stayed strong. Since my week of pre op 10/16 till now I've lost a total of 30lbs so I can already tell this is going very well for me. I'm so glad I decided on the sleeve because first I was going to do the lapband. I'm still on the liquid diet pretty soon I'll start on soft foods I can't wait because getting tired of broth lol

Hi Guys, I just received an email from someone asking me about my doctor for her future sleeve and it occurred to me that I don't actively think about it anymore. I actually had to sit and consider the implications... On balance they are probably great because it means that I have been able to accept the surgery fully, it was done on March 16th 2012, and that I am comfortable with the new me (down 150 pounds, and from a 54 inch waste to a 34). On the other hand, I am worried that if i forget old habits will come back and so will the weight. I can certainly eat much more than I ever expected, but still very much less than I used to... Have others experienced this? Best…

HI, My name is J- About a year ago, my oldest daughter, at age 22 came to the decision that she needed to get healthy. Steadily having gained weight since high school athletics ended, she was a beautiful, spunky, world traveler who had desires to get married, raise a family and enter the next phase in her life. One thing held her back, her size. Without coming right out and saying it, we all knew what she meant. I had lost about 30 lbs my Senior year and could relate to wanting that acceptance and having someone think you were beautiful (that you weren't related to). I told her I would go to the 6 months of nutrition classes with her and be a support so she didn't …

I've been wanting weight loss surgery for years! Since my sister had it about 14 years ago, and lost over 100 lbs. I finally changed insurance this year and qualified for surgery due to diabetes and h.b.p. On October 15, 2013 I went into the hospital in Burbank, CA. I was out of surgery and in my room within hours. I was also up and walking the same day. I was in a lot of pain, which I was told was normal, and about every 8 hours I was getting Heprin shots to prevent blood clots. Day 2, I stared drinking, it didn't go so well still in a lot of pain in my belly & nausea. Doc kept me an extra 2 days because of it & I was still getting Heprin shots. Finally…

I have been looking for a Forum to discuss questions about Lap band because I always feel bad calling or emailing the Dr for simple questions. Anyways on to my story. I am a 29 y/o father of 2 boys. I have been trying to lose weight for years and I have success but nothing that stuck. I started reviewing my other options outside of a diet. I needed something more permanent that I couldn't just stop. I found lap band surgery as an option but didn't know if I should follow through...Well on vacation my mind was made up for me when I was unable to enjoy something with my boys. It kind of hit home and my mind was made up for me. I then proceeded with the surgery. I am no…

Tomorrow should have been my surgery date. I'd been very nervous - I thought I'd done enough prep reading these boards but a couple of days ago I got really scared that I didn't know what would happen after the ten year mark. What if there's massive nutrition deficiencies? I started reading bad stories - unsupportive stories - and was really nervous that I didn't prepare myself enough. I've had a lot of people question me doing this -my BMI is 40- thinking I should just do it the regular way and I'm taking the easy way out. There's no question this isn't the easy way out. I tell them its the effective way out. Despite my doubts, I was carefully getting ready for t…

So I said I wouldn't come back on here but im so angry at my situation! I went to get my first fill today and of course I was super excited! Welllllll he went to do it and he was only hitting plastic and the noise was horrific! Well he couldnt tell what was going on so he did the little picture thing and I healed incorrectly and my band moved! So not only could he not do the fill but I also have to go back in to get it fixed! AND I have a new insurance and Im not sure if they will approve it!! Im so upset about it. I honestly feel like "of course this would happen to me" now I have to "wait it out" to see if I get approved before I can do anything about it. I have been cr…

I still have 3 weeks before my surgery I wanted to create a post about hair loss. As a Licensed Cosmetologist I want to share something that I haven't come across in lot of these threads. Although hair loss with this type of surgery may not be something that we can not avoid, it sure doesn't hurt to try and avoid it! We want to be healthier and skinnier and NOT bald! We all know it's important to keep your scalp clean and in good condition for proper hair growth. Using a good professional shampoo is very important, as other shampoos can cause a waxy build up that will weigh the hair down and could possibly make it fall out faster. It is important that you switch up your s…

Hey all! I just scheduled my sleeve with Dr. Rod in Warez for Aug 13. I am super excited, but a little nervous at the same time. I am sure thats normal right? Warez, that city scares the begizits out of me too. I am a low BMI-er at 33. I see threads here and there from low BMI sleevers, but it would be really nice to have a dedicated sub-forum for our kind. Who can make that happen? Here's my story: I'm 40 years old, 5'9", 215 lbs, and growing (aren't we all.) For the last 10 years I've always told myslef that 210 is my limit. Every time I hit the limit it's HcG time. after 7 rounds of HcG over the past 5 years (before that it was off label drug use, blah!…

Hello there, as of last week I was 1 year banded and had nothing but troubles. First I wasn't loosing then had a fill and still didn't loose following that I went back and had no fluid in the band. So I got refilled and went back for a check up and everything was fine. Then it came to where it wasn't able to eat meat or carbs so my doctor was going to Un fill as it may have been to tight but he couldn't find the port. So 1 week later I had to have a X-ray and drink this awful corky stuff he checked the band was in place and port turns out everything was ok. Except the flow through the band was to loose. He then removed all the fluid and refilled it with a bit extra to hel…

I am almost two weeks post-op. I thought I'd done all research possible mind you I've been researching for at least 5 years on bariatric surgery. All i have to say is "ain't nothing like the real thing baby"! I live in louisiana but I travelled all the way to decatur tx to have my surgery. Number one if I had to pay I was going to make my dollars stretch. I ended up finding Good ole Dr. Scott Stowers. He very down to earth and has an excellent staff! They make you feel like you are the only patient the have. I am very pleased with the results. I'm down 36 lbs in a two week time frame. I have my days but its ALL worth it. :tongue2:

Well, its been 5 weeks since surgery and I am having a great experience with my band and plication. I am happily on solid foods after a 2 week liquid pre-op diet, then surgery, then 2 week liquid post op, then 2 weeks of mushies and then onto solids. I can't believe that I am satisfied on 3 meals and 1 snack a day! The weight loss has been incredible and I'm following the rules...ALL of them....from day #1. I don't have any cravings for anything and am happy filling up on Proteins first followed by some carbs and a veggie. I go for my next appt with my doctor on friday and am happy to not want a fill right now. I am feeling blessed in so many ways....i feel SO mu…

Hello! My name is Velvet and I am tossing my hat into the lapband ring. I'm done with being overweight and it has been an especially intense struggle the last 6 years. I recently acquired asthma and it has put a big dent in my weight loss efforts. Off and on steriods, breathlessness, and etc., I just need the band to give me an edge so to speak. Right now I have 0 support. 1) My husband is against surgery. 2) Not much for family or friends. Believe it or not, I'm not really worried about the lack of support, I just want to get healthy so I can enjoy my future grandchildren. Kinda of tired of being fat too lol! So my insurance would rather pay for heart attacks,…

I'm brand new to this site, however I am almost through with the doctors visits that are required of me. I guess my main questions have to do with how I will lose. I always had to struggle with weight loss. My main problem is portion control. When diet programs would tell me how much I could have it just looked absolutely unreal. I am a repeat offender of Weight Watchers in particular. I'm a smaller sleever, having never weighed this much before, but whatever weight I gain seems to stick on me like glue. Sigh. Does anyone still have the urge to over eat? Or does that start to heal over time? Also hair loss? What?! ~Kay

Good afternoon all, I am entering into day 3 post-op, and I'm feeling really good. The soreness is still there, but it is really tolerable. I'm just so excited to begin this new weight loss journey! It feels good to know that I will finally be able to see the benefits of my workouts and eating right! My best friend and I entered into this journey together, and I have echoed to him how this was the best investment we could have ever made for our life and we'll-being! Just thinking that this time next year, I could be 100 lbs lighter is invigorating. Good-bye expensive Big and Tall section, and hello to affordable widespread shopping! Let the journey begin!!

Hi there, my name is Michele. I had a lapband back in 1998 and my first attempt at a tightening was not good. I'm not after all this time going to try again. I want to keep this to ver close friends and very close family as I am so scared of failing. My first tightening took an hour with I expect an inexperienced technician. I never went back. I now want my life back ! I have achieved so much at this weight but I know I can achieve much more and I don't want to sit on the side lines of life personally anymore. I would love to make friends on here who I can support and who can give me advice. I'm not good at being vulnerable or asking for help but I figure we have oceans…

Hi, I was sleeved at the end of May. At my first appointment I weighed in at 275. Scary! I did a low carb diet to lose as much weight as I could before surgery and the day before my surgery I was 256. So I have lost 32 lbs since surgery and 51 lbs altogether. I was a self pay patient and that has had good and bad parts about it. The good part is I didn't have to jump though a bunch of hoops to get my sleeve scheduled. I just scheduled it when I was ready and it was convenient for me. I teach school so I did it the day after Memorial Day, my first week of summer vacation. The bad part is I didn't have to attend any classes or support groups and now I'm looking to …

Hello everyone. I am glad to have found this site. I am scheduled for a RNY in about 2 weeks. I go for my preop visit one week from today. I have had a weight problem all my life. My first diet was my mother bringing me to Weight Watchers at age 8. I am so tired of this battle and how I feel that I have allowed many things in life to slip by as I made excuses for why I wasn't doing certain things. I am tired of living a lie..yes, there are things I want to do, and look forward to at least having the ability to participate in. I am not saying that I really would sky jump, but by golly I will have that option. Besides being healthier, and looking better I am ready to start…

Hi my name is honor I'm from utica ny and Ive been over weight all my life! I got the lap band 3years ago and lost about 80lbs and felt pretty good but was unable to eat food got stuck all the time and due to food getting stuck and getting sick my esophagus swelled up so the dr had to unfill the band and I gained all my weight back and feel so uncomfortable. Well I decided to have a revision and get the bypass I am currently waiting for insurance approval. .they are deciding if they will just approve it due to complications with the band or if I have to do a 3month supervised diet. I am so nervous since I hear some bad stories about the bypass and I feel that my family i…

Hi. I am new. I had my sleeve in Puerto Vallarta Mexico on Oct 9th/13. My surgeon was Dr. Castenada. I am doing pretty well surgery was a breeze and not painful. The drains were the worst part. I am slowly starting puréed foods and soft foods and tolerating it well. I just started taking my pills whole instead of crushing, thankfully as they were nasty. I am happily down 19lbs! Well, just thought I would say hello!

My Top Ten list for my first month sleeved: #10): The difference between weeks 3 and 4 are incredible. Week 3 still had some gas and incisional "pinches and twitches". At 4 weeks - almost nothing. #9): Glad I waited 4 weeks to go back to work since they frown on nap-time. I really enjoyed my 3 pm snoozes. #8): Eating is minimally interesting. Seriously- I can take it or leave it. My Fitness Pal keeps me honest. #7): I am starting to understand "eat to live, not live to eat". Without the sleeve, that saying just pissed me off because I didn't get it; especially if I was hungry! #6): Single serving envelopes of unjury fit great even in the smallest of purses so I hav…

My surgery is Tuesday the 29th. I am getting excited and nervous, but the excitement of being healthy sure out ways the nerves. It's taken 25 years to get from 159 to 264. I am 5 foot 8 and everyone cannot believe I weigh this. Little by little it just sneaks up on you. My doctor told me not long ago, if I did not get this weight off I might not make it to 62. I am 57 now. I had to take a trip and got into my seat and the belt almost did not fit. I was so thankful I did not have to ask for an extension. With that it was enough is enough. My husband has always said he loves me no matter what but he knows how miserable I am. He says I look uncomfortable in my clot…

I'm not a frequent poster...actually have been so busy I'm not even a frequent viewer lately. But it occurred to me today that yesterday was my 3 month mark, so I thought I'd check in. Crazy how time flies. I started my journey at 244, and am now down to 193, total of 51 pounds. Weight loss has definitely slowed down, but I'm eating differently now than I was right after surgery, so it's not surprising. Generally losing about 2 lbs a week, though. Still no regrets and no problems. I was in India in late September for a business trip. I'd generally stick with Protein shakes and bars during the day, then would have some local food for dinner with my coworkers. I tried t…

I'm new here, but decided to get plugged in because I scheduled my VSG TODAY for 11/6/3! I was so excited when I got the call from the surgeon's office that my insurance had faxed approval! I hadn't even gotten a letter in the mail, and they just submitted everything last week! No complaints here! I was a little nervous to tell my employers that I would be out, but they took it very well! I did not tell them what surgery I was having. Just that it was a laparoscopic procedure and that I would need 2-3 weeks off (my job is quite physical). So a little about me... I'm 29, married to a very sweet, supportive man, and we have a sweet dog named Charlie. I have always strug…

I was banded on 9/13. I use my fitness pal religiously, started a gym 2 weeks ago. Was going to the gym every other day - but this week I've been every single day!!!!! My calories are around 750 to 850 per day - had my first fill on 10/15 and I haven't lost a single pound in about a week and a half. I'm frustrated !!!!!!!!!!!! I have about 65-70 pounds left to go. I've lost about 23. I was losing about a pound a day in the beginning, then about 1/2 pound a day then nothing. I know that this is a process and I'm not looking to get smaller overnight - but jeez this is freakin killing me!! I did lose .4 pounds for my October weigh in, but gained it back. Just frustrated! …
