You will get there. Only take pain meds if you are hurting because they can actually make nausea worse. Walk walk walk and sip sip sip! The sun will shine again soon!

I also had a terrible first night. Worst night ever, to be honest! I felt so bad for my hubby. He was so sweet and kept getting up with me every time I had to sit up and grab the "barf basin". Some people just react this way to the surgery. (My surgeon says about 1 in 25.) I was ill the entire next day off and on, then was discharged after my second night in the hospital. They didn't let me leave until they saw I could tolerate sips of water so they knew I wouldn't get dehydrated. I'm 1 wk and 2 days postop, and I can say with confidence that although that nausea was NO fun...it's all going to be worth it! I've lost 10lbs since surgery...18 lbs since preop diet!

Often an EGD is called an upper GI. Often a colonoscopy is called a lower GI. An upper GI study (or series) is usually the term for the contrast/gastrograffin swallow/X-ray procedure. I do anesthesia for lots of endoscopic procedures and, yes, upper GI and EGD are frequently used interchangeably referring to the same procedure. (Although EGD would be the more accurate term.)

Just try your best to trust your providers and know that in the long run this will be the best thing for you! They are all professionals, and they will do their best to make everything smooth and as comfortable as possible for you! Try to focus on your postop goals and guidelines. The surgery part is just a tiny blip on a long road of your journey! Get excited! Your life is about to change!

I've seen many laparoscopic surgeries and they always remove things through the largest incision. not the mouth.

Hi! I'm a nurse anesthetist. Please don't worry about these things. (I know easier said than done!) You will probably not even remember that tube being in at all! Most people don't! Also- let the anesthesia folks on the day of surgery know that you are a vocalist. Ask them to use the smallest tube that they can safely use for you. You will do great! My surgery is Nov 6th!

I got my approval yesterday, and scheduled surgery today for November 6th! Preop appt Nov 4th! Woohoo!
