Well I'm sitting in my hospital room writing this with the grogginess of the pain meds but the biggest smile ever! I'm so happy my new journey has began ! Pain and nausea coming out of surgery was HELL! But I burped about 10 times and then continually punched my pain med button! Now that I'm controlling my pain its not so bad and I'm so excited for the rest of my life!!

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes four years ago with an a1c of 15. The doctor told me that it was the highest she had ever worked with. With diabetes came the high blood pressure, high cholesterol and acid reflux. I was started on insulin right away and hated it. I was able to come off the insulin in 6 months and was happy. This last year has been a struggle. I'm back on insulin with an a1c of 13. My doctors told me that I would be a very sick women if I don't get this under control. There starts my journey into wls. I started at 240 pounds and am now at 228. While losing the weight will be great losing the disease will be better. I believe that God is working in my f…

Okay, hello everbody! Our dear friend Alex Brecher (dude from the first msg) told me I should introduce myself so here I am! My name is Sarah! I'm 22 and have a BMI of 53! Not good at all, I know! My mother is also obese and we recently decided to both get sleeved. We just decided this about a week ago and since then I've been trying to do as much research as I can about the enitre process! I'm so happy that I stumbled across this fun and helpful community! So I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer for - How long will the process take from now (just making the decision, attending info seminars etc) until the actual surgery? I know that we'll hav…

Start weight 259, surgery date weight 238, today's weight 205 goal is 140. My hubby was not in favor of me having this surgery. We have been together for over seven years. I turned double nickels 55 this summer. My surgery was a planned open surgery due to lots of scar tissue on my stomach. We arrived at the hospital at 8:00 am, I was taken back, they weighed me and I remember thinking goodbye fat Donna. They started the IV the gas doctor came and talked to my husband and I, and off I went to surgery? now you should know that there was a chance They could not do the surgery because of the scar tissue. I do not remember waking up in recovery, I do remember waking up in …

I had my surgery on September 25, and couldn't be more pleased with how things have gone so far. I've been reading posts on this forum forever to prepare myself for the good, the bad, and the ugly, and really tried to prepare myself for a tough journey, but I have been so blessed! I had minimal pain after surgery, and will be going back to work (two jobs) on Monday. Once I got home, I didn't have any problems getting fluids in. I realize that so many people struggle getting in fluids in, but just wanted to let people are thinking of having this surgery that sometimes things aren't so bad. It's definitely a huge adjustment, but even two weeks of the post-op liquid diet…

I am, however, writing on this website because I have a lot of confusion about certain symptoms and things thats going on with my band. First of all just to have you guys up to speed about myself: I was banded over a year ago (August 2012) and have been doing great ever since. I am about 10 pounds away from my target weight. I have had no complications along the way thank god... until now First mystery: Basically, for some reason, I can only take up to 1.5cc for me to be in the green zone with my band. Anything more than that a…

Hi, I am just starting my journey to health and weight loss. I have my first appointment on Tuesday and I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I've been heavy all my life. Losing weight has been a struggle for me my whole life. Lost some, gained more!!! I also know depression has played a part in my weight. I have never been as big as I am now at 305lbs. I've always been overweight-Obese and now I'm morbidly obese, which is really taking a toll on my life and emotional health. I gained an extreme amount of weight, over 125lbs, and started drinking heavy during the years of my abusive marriage. It's been 4 years since my divorce and I've become a hermit in my own home…

I am 3 days out now and can finally stand up straight lol. I had a pretty good experience with it all. And my Dr... he was awesome!!! Dr Felts in Las Cruces NM I would recommend him to anyone!!!!

Ok guys so my job does not offer insurance, however, I have school insurance which is great but it does not cover management loss wright programs. So then I was really upset and now my dad, mom & sister will ask their insurances to add me so i can have this surgery ASAP. Although they don't want me to have since my BMi is only 34.4 I still want it and they are supporting me to get this done. Plus worse comes to worse I can purchase a private insurance so it's great that I have 4 other chances to make this happen woohoooo I am so happy that I can't study lol.. Please pray for me because I want this so bad like there is nothing else better

  13. I had my lap band in 2003, I started at 215 & within the first year I lost 157lbs, & reached my goal weight, I had great success. At the end of my 9th year, i was vomiting quite often, couldn't get much food down, I had an esophagram & my lap band had slipped, so I had emergency surgery with my original surgeon & unfortunatly the damage was realy bad & it had to come out. So now I'm on month 3 without it & up 15 pounds. I have been eating healthy & exercising. I am very frustrated & so afraid of gaining any more weight back. Any diets known for those who had to have thier band removed????!!!! HELP

I don't know that I have a big story (or at least one that I can type quick) but basically, was 278, insurance paid for my surgery, and I didn't have to fight that thank God. I finally broke the news to my mom that I'm going to have the surgery, she wasn't exactly jumping for joy, over the years she has always advised me that its not worth the risk, however, this is coming from a woman who was a single parent with me as an only child (and not to mention she is a size 8), I'm a single parent with one child as well, so I completely understand where she is coming from as a concerned parent. I told her that my weight has discouraged me, has not allowed me to live up to my full potential and has caused unnecessary avoidable health issues all of my life and she, in a round about kind of way, said that I was over exaggerating, so with that being sai…

All of your posts helped me through every step, two years ago I was a very unhappy seventeen year old, in a horrible relationship that I was scared to leave because I thought no one else would want someone like me, I weighed 110 kilos (242 pounds) and had incredibly low self esteem, but now, thanks to all of your support and my lap band i've lost 52 kilos (114 pounds) and now weigh 58kg (127 pounds), and I have found that its not that people don't look at me anymore, they just don't curl their lip in disgust when they do. And like so many of you, I've been that way most of my life. When I look at myself in a mirror I can't help but be slightly disgusted at myself for letting it get to this. Today is my 31st birthday, and I know if I continue as I have the past 31 years, there's no way in heck I'll see another 31. Or if I do, I'll likely be miserable, and a drag on my family. I've always known this on some conceptual level, but having a 2-year-old running you ragged has a way of pointing out how…

  34. In my first 7 days being sleeved, the top 10 things I have learned : 1) In the world of competitive sleeping, I am a Gold Medalist. I can (& do) nap anytime, anywhere. 2) I am hanging up my stethoscope. My new fulltime job is to "sip, sip, sip". Staying hydrated is hard work. 3) The sounds coming from my new stomach are not lady like. 4) I am no longer a bashful burper. 5) Daytime TV sucks. 6) Not every belly twinge is a potential leak. I am a nurse, so I always look at the worst case health scenarios first. Hard habit to break. 7) Isopure gags me, but is tolerable if made into SF Jello. 8) Old Navy makes super comfy yoga pants, even if I never assume a "Lotu…

Diary of a Fat man. All my life I have been heavy, fat, overweight. It's simple, I eat too much and I stay fat. What's not simple is changing that pattern. I've dieted many times and they work each time, but eventually they don't and the cycle continues. I have tied exercising regularly until my overweight body said no more! So here I am I'm my Mid 50s father of an active 2 year old. My large body aches it creaks and weighs the same as 2 over weight 20 year olds. So what do I do? get another diet because the next time "it will work"? Exercise until I injure myself and can't recover? That's why I decided to look into an alternative way. On Tuesday Octob…

Therefore, this year in June we were able to change our medical plan to Kaiser Permanente who offers the surgery. I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I was downsized from my job about 4 years ago. I lost my mom during that time and went into a depression. I picked up weight because of my depression, a surgical procedure and my age, which has been very difficult to loose. I recently started a new training and speaking business. I stand on my feet for hours and because I saw numbers on the scale…
