  1. Started by runt,

Well, I did it. I went to see the surgeon to discuss LB. He thinks I am a. Excellent candidate for it... The office staff was very nice in answering questions. I have a physical and appt for RD scheduled next week. Provided insurance approves everything my surgery could be as early as the end of August. I have looked forward to this for over 5 years. Why am I so scared? Fear of failure?? Like all other attempts to loss weight. Fear of surgery? What if Something goes wrong. I am not telling my family I am doing this (obviously hubby knows... Not kids, my mom or anyone else) No one can "I told you so" if it doesn't work. Are these normal feelings?

Today is day 6 post op and I have my first doctors appointment. Can't wait to see how much I've lost and if I'm ok to start the next food stage (even though I've kinda already started).

I haven't lost weight in almost 3 weeks. I'm barely 4 in a half weeks out and I'm getting afraid that what I lost will be all that ill loose. It's hard to see the future of something finally working when you've tried over and over . Is there any time where ppl just don't lose at all? I'm not eating terrible either and just started at the gym.

I am a band to sleeve patient and had a lot of issues with my band. I basically had to live on soups for 3 years because solid foods would get stuck and come right back up. I'm just wondering if I will be able to eat "normally" once I've started my "food for life" stage? How many of you can eat a couple bites of pizza, burritos, turkey burgers, steak, ribs, even a little pasta or maybe even a bite or two of a dessert around the holiday's? I guess I've gone so long without real foods that I just want to be able to have a small couple bites of the foods I loved. Please no negative comments as I have suffered on soups for 3 very long years. Any feedback would be great, I jus…

  5. Hello my name Bandits!! My name is Chaundra. I started this journey in Feb 2013. I have cigna and they required a 4 months visit plus the addition testing. My paperwork was finally turned in June 18th to the insurance and i have been playing the waiting game every since. I have called everyday to check the status lol. Yesterday was teh first day the status changed to pending need associate assistance. And of course they tell me they have up until 30 days and will hear something no later then next week.

  6. I have no before photos. I just couldn't do it. I cried every time I saw myself. But now, I'm feeling great! I love my band. I love you guys! I can't imagine how I will feel after another 20 , 30, then 40 lbs.

Today is my 6th day since surgery. I'm feeling so much better. The pain is almost all gone. I'm still pretty tired and weak but everyday I'm improving. I'm down 21lbs since the first day of my pre op diet, which was July 9th. I'm just taking it day by day. Any questions, feel free to ask or email me @ jenray83@yahoo.com

I am one week out after having surgery last Monday. The instructions my doctor gave say I should drink very small sips and about 4oz of Protein drink over a 20 minute period. Water should go equally slow. The problem is that I can greatly exceed this (I had a 12pz shake last night in about 15 minutes). It's like liquids go straight through my pouch and directly to the intestines. The concern is that I am feeling hungry most of the time (unless I constantly sip on water or something). Anyone know if this is normal?

  16. So as of today I am 6 weeks post weighing in at 204 from 244 to start. My husband was admitted to the hospital yesterday and once I made it home I found myself snaking. What was I snacking on? I had 1 small chocolate chunk cookie, and a half of a dounut. Then I caought myself and realized what I was doing and broke down and started crying. I have been doing really well today by logging and staying on track, I weighed in this morning and was down 2 lbs. I have to admit I was really surprised. Right now it just feels so hard with everything that's going on in my life, but I know I have a new life style and I have to make it work.

Hello all. I have been looking around on the site for a while and finally decided to join. I think it will keep me better on task to interact with others who have gone through the journey, and help keep me more accountable. I had my sleeve surgery in December of 2012 and have never regretted it. I am currently down around 85 pounds and feel so very good. I love all the discussions on the site and the wealth of information I have gathered from here.

Hi everyone, Had my band fitted on Saturday in Birmingham with Professor Favretti. Was only a day case so I was home by the evening. Basically just been sipping Water & trying to walk about a bit to relieve some of the gas pain. I've already lost 7 pounds but it's only going to be because of the liquid diet, however I do feel really confident & positive. Just can't wait to get onto food. Finding it a challange to stay hydrated in this weather with a small cup of water pushing me over the limit but seem to be okay ATM. Looking forward to my weight loss success once I'm through the first 2 weeks

Today marks 14 days since my sleeve surgery and I am happy to report I have lost 20 pounds! I started this journey 12 months ago when I was weighed by my doctor's office during a routine check-up and weighed 288. I am 6 feet tall. That was the most I had weighed in my life and I decided it was time to take action. I was referred to a local sleeve surgeon who immediately put me on the South Beach Diet to lose weight pre-op. Because of insurance I was required to wait a certain time and follow certain guidelines. Well, two weeks ago I had the surgery and despite some complications afterward that required a second procedure I am home now resting and recovering. I am pain fre…

Dat 2: I slept in a recliner on our couch last night. My XL heating pad has been a lifesaver! Sore across my shoulders and upper back and under left armpit. The great advice that I have read here really has helped. I am concerned that yesterday I only took in 25 g protein and a total of 127 calories. I can't figure out how to get the calories and protein up. I can't dring my red prrotein shakes per hospita (said it would be harder to detect blood that way). So I have my lemonade flavor protein drink that burns as it goes down my esophagus (dr. fixed a rather large hernia) Any advice? I hope todo better today.

Got my date: August 12. I started the process in early April, went to the big presentation by my doctor, psych eval, pre-op tests, waited for insurance, and finally got my clearance. Meanwhile, I'm stocked up on different protein powders trying to find one I think I can live with LOL, learned a lot from people on this forum, and can't wait to get going. If anyone is interested, I have United Healthcare and they were great. My plan is particularly generous, so no pre-diets or anything like that, just needed at least one co-morbidity for my BMI (I've got a bunch, so that was covered!) 28. I just took my 'before' photos and HOOOOLY CR AP! If I weren't going into surgery in 3 days I'm pretty sure I would have smashed the camera (which is very expensive) and used the strap to hang myself from the nearest light fixture. Then again, I doubt the light fixture would hold me! Wow, wow, wow. If I wasn't sure before, I AM NOW! No wonder I have avoided the camera for the last few years! (funny thing is my fiance and I are both photographers) It's a lot easier being on the back side of the camera. Which is exactly where I will stay until I loose at least 50 lbs. Goodness sakes. SMH.

No problem. Then, it's time to order dinner. On the appetizer menu was 3 skewers..... one chicken, one shrimp, and one beef. It had a price, or, $2.50 each. Perfect! So, I ordered one shrimp skewer for dinner. The waiter informed me I could have 3, and I said no thanks, one shrimp please. Then, he told me if I didn't like beef or chicken, I could have all 3 shrimp. I said no thanks, just one shrimp is fine. He took the order and after he left we had a great laugh at the lo…

It has been almost two months since the surgery and I have been feeling like I can do lots of things that I was not able to do before. Last year, I went to the Kaiser Permamente Options Program in Fontana to start my surgery program. In the beginning, I weighed almost 420 pounds. I could not walk, eat, even be happy. I was scared at first, because I thought that other people would laugh and make fun at me. But a few weeks passed, I have started to lose a few pounds at a time. There are things I know now about metabolic surgery that I did not know before, really that none of us knew, that are only just being realized now. For example, the fact that a super low calorie diet isn't necessarily responsible for your honeymoon weightloss and that staying on a super low calorie diet after the honeymoon won't necessarily ensure continued significant loss.
