A space for women. Weight loss surgery, health, body changes, or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. I'm in a contest to be on the cover of Triathlete magazine. To enter I shared my story about how WLS and exercising, specifically triathlons have made me more fit, and I'm happy to say I've made it to phase 1, the top 20! Please vote for me, Julie S., so that I can make it to phase 2. You can vote on all your devices, (desktops, iPads, and your cell phones). Thank you. Voting ends in Monday February 1, 2016. http://triathlon.com...-1-women_127517 Here is the essay I submitted: In August 2011, I had weight-loss surgery. Like many, I had tried to lose weight on my own with diet and exercise, but I wasn’t successful. After the surgery, was it easy to lose weight? Ye…

Hi ladies. I'm 36 years old and am 2 weeks out so unable to have sex with the hubs yet. My surgeon said for me to wait until I'm a month out. But I've been trying to figure out what a good birth control would be. I have PCOS so I've never been pregnant and have never had to use birth control. I know losing weight can cause women to become fertile and the doc doesn't want me getting pregnant for 2 years. I will make an appointment with my gyno next week, but I wanted personal opinions on birth control options. I'm really scared of any type because of the hormones but I have to use something and he hates condoms (I do too actually). Thanks in advance!

Hi Ladies! I may be putting the cart before the horse, since I have my sleeve surgery in 10 days, but I am trying to plan for afterward. As you all lost your weight and had the excess skin to hide, what shapewear (i.e. Spanx, Maidenform, etc.) did you find most effective in holding it in? Did you buy the whole body style, cami, girdle type for bottom? Is Firm hold better or a smoother? Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

I am coming up on my 1 year in March and have lost 77 lbs so far. the dr wants me to be at 155-160 per BMI chart. here is the thing, I haven't lost anything since I hit 175 two months ago. my bone structure isn't meant for 155. I have a body, even though now much slimmer, of a line backer. my dad calls me the Russian beat farmer, but I blame him, since his entire family looks like this. pants, no matter what, except jeggings, fit funny. my hips, and I can feel the bones won't let size 8 up, but my legs need it. when I put on 10s it looks like I am wearing my ex husbands pants. anyone else have this issue?

I'm hoping someone else out there understands how I feel. Since my banding, I went from a size 18 to a size 10 (still have flab up top so maybe went from XLtop to L). Anyway...I'm feeling very good about being a size 10 jeans. I mean, I dont remember the last time I was a 10...I'm not kidding. I remember ten years ago when my sister got married I was a 14. So anyway, I've always had issues with self esteem. And I've been feeling good recently...taking care of myself and my looks. But still cannot get guys interested in me. And then I started thinking...ok so I might feel skinnier but in reality, I'm still "fat" by society's standards. You know? And I know, I shouldn't …

I may have posted somewhere before that I've never had a boyfriend... well now I do! And he loves my sleeve! He's a pretty fit and muscular guy so he likes to eat a lot, meaning finish all my meals. "This is amazing, I get half your cheeseburger all the time!" too funny Just thought I would share that not every guy is going to be judgmental, some will love it for the silliest of reasons.

Hi, I was going to just post this to the end of my "elusive onederland" thread, but I couldn't figure out how to add the picture? The only way I know how is to start a new thread because it has the "attach file" feature. So my patience paid off and as of today, exactly 39 weeks and 1 day since my first appointment and 19 weeks and 3 days since my surgery I have hit ONEDERLAND! I guess I thought it would be more magical.... Don't get me wrong, it's AWESOME, but I still have more work ahead. I haven't been under 200lbs since I was a TEENAGER and that was a while ago. Thanks everyone for all the encouragement and kind words since starting my journey.

I have had a rash on my breast on-and-off for awhile now, even before surgery. I saw another post that said something about it being from yeast - but I don't understand how that works. I thought a yeast infection affected the vaginal area. Is that what the breast rash is from, a yeast infection?? In terms of the breast rash, I thought it was just dry skin. I have a post-op appointment tomorrow, should I show the doctor?? I have gotten them several times!!! Help - sometimes it itches pretty badly!!!

  11. OK I had RNY surgery back in October of this year, after having my band removed. When I lost my weight with the band my drive went through the roof so I was expecting the same thing to happen after this surgery (I gained my weight back). Before surgery my drive was normal, and the hot flashes were gone because i was wearing a hormone patch. Now, 45 pounds down, my hormones are nowhere to be found, and my drive is MIA as well! The patch no longer works. This sucks! I will see my Dr. next week. Any one had a similar experience and if so what did you do? Thanks!

I have lost about 50 pounds and have been going to the gym several times a week. One of the exercises that I have enjoyed and been encouraged to pursue by my personal trainer is jumping rope. I've apparently got a good rhythm and it's an excellent exercise so... The problem lately has been that my belly is flopping around as I jump and has actually been kind of painful at times. Is there anything out there like a sports bra for the belly? I feel silly asking but I don't know if I'll be able to continue with jumping rope/jumping jacks, etc if it's going to be painful like this. Thanks in advance!

Okay Ladies, I am freaking out slightly. Today is my 3 week surgerversary. About 3 days post-op, I started my period. It wasn't fun, but what could I do? It lasted about 5 days. On yesterday, I started feeling cramps in my stomach, only to go to the bathroom and see that I was bleeding again! It has not been 20 days, let alone 28 days. Today, I am passing huge blood clots. I have been to the bathroom at least 6 times in the past hour because I can feel them trying to pass. My periods were very irregular pre-surgery. Should I be concerned or is this just my body responding to the weight loss? Thanks for your help!

At what point did you finally get fed up enough to make a change in your life and do WLS? My breaking point was when I had an opportunity to go rappelling down a tower used to train the Army how to fast rope out of helicopters. I am scared to death of heights. But with the encouragement of some great instructors at the Air Assault school I rappelled down the rope that was several stories off the ground. Talk about having a 'I feel like a bad ass' moment. I didn't realize that anyone was taking pictures of this event. So months later I showed up to a work function that I was being recognized at. My parents even came for the luncheon. I used to have cute clothes, when I was thinner, but I'm much older now. As a heavy person, I've done my best to dress attractively and with style. But three factors have led me to not love the clothes I've worn for the last many years. First, feeling so bad about myself has taken away my desire to dress well. I guess I've felt that very little I could do made me look really cute or attractive. Even when I was happy and confident with an outfit, I'd always second-guess myself. Or see a dreaded photo or …

Hello ladies! I had my RNY almost 4 months ago and I've lost almost 70 pounds since then. Part of the reason I chose RNY is because it has been shown to reduce the symptoms of PCOS more than any other weight loss surgery, and the thought of my awful symptoms reducing is incredibly appealing to me. My question here today is 3-fold: Did any of you with PCOS notice a change in your symptoms for the better or worse? How far out were you when these changes began? Did your PCOS affect your weight loss in any way? I've had two periods and one really weird spotting incident since surgery. Both periods have been painful beyond anything I've experienced. I have been miserable after surgery trying to juggle new tummy (had a stricture and had that fixed 2 days ago), new job, hubby's new job, kids, house....been overwhelmed and very emotional. Hi there, Any thoughts on Estrogen and weight loss, appetite signals, etc.? I am banded and just recently started on an Estrogen Ring (yes,I have two foreign objects in my body, lol). I have been feeling a lot of restriction and wonder if this could be related to the ring. It also triggered a period after seven months. I sort of don't mind that as I'd like to get another 10-15 pounds off prior to true menopause as I think it's harder to lose weight after that (I'm 54 and surely getting there). Thanks for any input and happy Sunday all.
