The Gals' Room

A space for women. Weight loss surgery, health, body changes, or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. I was out with a friend and I excused myself to the ladies room. I saw myself in a full length mirrow for the first time in over a year. There was a thin woman staring back at me with her jaw dropped open. I can't believe how much my body has changed. I have gone from MO to normal in 12 months!!!! Huge NSV for me, also huge mental step, I saw what was really there. I was starting to think I would need counseling to see what everyone else was seeing. I saw it yesterday. WooHoo for me. No point really just wanted to share. ~Mandy P.S. I asked if I could buy that mirror just in case it was the mirror and not really my body. They said no ~M

  3. WARNING: Very Gross. Please be warned. I have had an upset stomach for about 10 hrs now. As in the runs. I have my period as well. About 1 hr ago I felt something weird so I looked down at the paper and there was blood on it. Alot. I figured it was just from my period. Just now I went again because I felt cramps. I decided to look directly in the toilet. It was full of blood and mucus at the bottom. When I wiped it was full of blood again. It looked like I just went blood, alot of it and thick. The blood is red not black. I am so scared. I never had it like this. I haven't been able to eat much the past 3 days. I've read here though and many women tighten …

so, do any other women experience a change in your menstral cycle since being banded? i still feel like i am carrying around 2 watermelons on my chest full of water! and my period came a whole 5 days early this month. i have only lost 17lbs but in the past, when i lose weight my period changes from when i am heavier. does that make a shred of sense? on another note. i seem to be going through alot of emotional changes lately. i don't know if they are band related or just feeling the crunch of pre-wedding stuff. i feel like i should be further along than i am with the band. i know it has been about a month. but, i really wanted to be down by more by now. well, not true.…

  6. My band surgery was in September 2005 and I have been on Seasonale brand birth control for 2 years. I have lost 95 lbs in 10 months. After my last period, I had a week with no issues and then started breakthrough bleeding. The breakthrough has been going on for 3 weeks now from extremely light to somewhat moderate. How annoying! I have 9 more weeks of pills before I should be on my cycle and I do not want to continue this breakthrough for that long. Has anyone experienced this after a big drop in weight? Any thoughts?

Has anyone else had hormone ups and downs. I have started period after abnormal period since I was banded and started losing weight. I am on the pill, but it is a very low dose. I feel like a teenager again. Horrible cramps, mood swings, pimples all the stuff I've outgrown. Has anyone else experienced this? Help me please.

  8. I have a strange and personal question to ask all the women that have had lapband.... My surgery is July 5th and being overweight... I have big boobs. I am concerned because the hang over my stomach and I think that my incisions will get irritated. I really enjoy wearing support bras with underwire but i know that we can't wear the underwire for awhile after the surgery. I am most comfortable when wearing a bra. I heard that we could wear sports bras but I don't find that they support me that much. What should I do about keeping the girls off my tummy?

I Don't know who to talk to and do not want to scare my family just yet.. When I was in the shower today and who knows why I did not notice this before but around the areola place on breast are bumps. Some little some no bigger than a cherry pit. At first I thought it was just a me thing but got to looking at them in the mirror. I took pictures just to compare them a week from now ~ see if they change in any way. I do not have discharge from my nipples and they look fine but it's the bumps that have me worried. Should I worry? I don't know. I also started my period today and do not know if that could have anything to do with it or not. Now I am use to having a few bumps…

Ok, so I am definatley not pregnant. The Doc says my period are wacky from the band surgery. I know some people on here thought 7 months was too long after surgery for the surgery to still be affecting my cycle, but Doc says that's what it is, and that I can expect it to continue for as long as I'm "drastically" losing weight as she put it (I would never define this slow process as drastic, lol). Anyways, just wanted everyone to know that apparently the surgery and weight loss can affect your period for ALONG time. The good news is it's nothing serious.

The premis behind the movie is that Jazmine Biltmore (Monique) is a plus sized lady who works at a department store and lives with her skinny as cousin. She and her best friend are always dieting and feeling left out. Jessica wants to be a plus size fashion designer because she makes her own clothes not being able to find any at the store in which she works (aint that the truth) Through entering a contest she and her best friend and cousin venture to Palm Springs for an all expence paid vacation. 17. Ok, so ever since I got banded my periods have been off schedule. I didn't have one for 3 1/2 months, then I bled for a weel, then like 2 weeks later I bled for like 3 weeks, then another month went by and not I'm having a period that seems to be on schedule (as in it's occuring one month from the last one) but all these periods have been SO SO SO heavy and SO much longer than pre-band (pre-band I was average flow for 4 days). So, what is going on? Is there still build-up from when I missed a few periods? I'm so tired of it! I've had this period for 5 days now and it is so heavy that it is waking me up in the middle of the night.

I was banded 9/19/05 and 3 months ago stopped having periods, no other problems. I told my GYN at my annual visit and just got a nod. Is it possibly connected to the changes in my body with the weight loss? Am I (gasp) hitting menapause ( I'm the big 4-0), or is it stress? Anyone have this happen?

MsJoy was banded on 12/28/05. While in the recovery room she began bleeding and she assumed it was her period. Since her surgery she has had a bit of bleeding almost every day. Not a lot...she uses a light days pad most of the time. She just never knows when it may come around. Her OB/GYN doesn't seem that concerned about it. Her next Dr appointment isn't for another week. Any suggestions or thoughts from any of you ladies?

  22. I've read that some have had their periods cease for a few months after surgery; this question is for those of you who did NOT have that happen. I got my period right on schedule despite the surgery. I'm wondering if anyone has noticed any irregularities in their cycle AFTER the first month. The reason is dh and I use NFP (natural family planning) for birth control and if my cycle might be screwed up in future months, I need to know. Obviously, anything's possible, but I'm just trying to get a general idea of what others have gone through. Thank!

I did a Slumber Party last night and asked a shy girl in a skirt if she'd help me try out a new brand of panties. I asked her to slip them over her panties and wear them for 20 minutes to see if they fit as well as the designer said. She was nice and happy to help. Nobody else knew except my hostess. Five minutes into my demonstration, the girl in the panties turned bright red, threw her head back and started laughing so uncontrollably that I nearly died laughing myself. Hey guys I am new to the board but do lurk around when I have some time. I was just wondering if anyone has the same problem with not being able to eat much at all when you are on your period? I have been banded for 6 months and this is the first month it has been a problem. I usually end up Pbing. I had a fill 2 months ago so it is not a new fill. I am concerned that my band has slipped. I hear people are pretty much on lock down when they are on their period. I would like to hear your experiences. THanks so much, Lisa

Just some info to help me figure this out: I'm still very young (23) I have given birth before, my son is 7 years old. I am pretty heavy, but I have regular excercise and eat good. Not too little, not too much. I am not banded. I am not going through additional stress. Life is pretty normal, except for not having a period. I'm starting to miss having it. Girls, please help me! 33. Hi all. During my menses I get really bad cramps for 2 days. I've taken a combo (after checking w/several dr's) of 2 advil/2 tylenol every 4-6 hours & it's been the only thing to work. Now w/the band I'm worried that's too much advil. Dr. Martinez said occasional advil liquigels are fine, but I think my regimin (sp?) is more than occasional. I've been white-knuckling it for past 2 month & probably taking more advil than I should, even tho he says no evidence to support advil is bad, blah blah...I don't want to take any chances! What she did finally say was: "I'm kinda jealous. You're on here talking to all these hot babes all the time." So, you guys are all hot babes. I knew it all along, but I wasn't about to tell Patty that. She had to figure it out for herself. Of course I had a good response. I said, "I talk to those hot babes, but I married the hottest babe of all". Whew. No couch.

I noticed that yesterday and today my port sight has been hurting a little - not anything unbearable but it's there. I have read a lot of posts that say the sex drive has kind of left but quite honestly it's been the opposite for me. My husband says I am draining what youth he has left!! But my question is: is this something that's normal or should I talk to my doctor about it? Just wanted to get some feedback before I talk to my doctor.

I'm wondering if any of you experienced a change in your cycle after being banded. I'm usually regular as clockwork, I have four children and other than when I was expecting them I have only missed one period in my life. I'm about 4 days late. There was only one time I could have conceived, and that was 3 days ago. I had cramping, the usual back ache, leg aches, all over lethargy and headaches that I normally get, and my face even broke out a little. I had one little tiny bit of spotting. I had my surgery on Nov. 14th and actually had my period then. I'm wondering if losing 25 lbs in one month has interfered with my cycle. The only other factor is that I start…

  40. A friend of mine said that they don't allow you to wear underwear during any kind of abdominal surgery. She said that it's because they don't want them getting in the way, which makes sense, I guess. Was that true for you? I wanted to see if the band was still in place so I took a bite of hamburger, bread and all, and it went down. I could kinda feel it stick a little but then it went down with no problem.
