This is my first post and I'm really needing some support! Feeling like a huge failure! Been eating all the wrong foods and can't seem to get back on track! I've decided to start a liquid diet again for a week to see if this helps! Old habits are hard to break after so many years!

Hi all I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this happening I went for my preop and they told me I might not have surgery due to the fact that while they put me on the surgery diet 2 weeks ago I lost 11lbs now my bmi is a 38 and a half instead of the 40?

Hi everyone I am 40 years old and decided to have weight loss surgery in January. I am currently going through my nutrition counseling, which I am on my 5th of 6 sessions. I am having the gastric sleeve because I suffer from lupus and take prednisone daily so this is the procedure that was best for me. I have the support of my loving husband, kids, and close friends. I'm looking forward to sharing my progress and reading about everyone else's journey.

  4. I was doing very well until I noticed that I can swallow larger types of food. I wanted to see exactly what would go down and almost everything prior to surgery could. I am supposed to have my first fill this week. Should I go back to liquids already? I don't think I'm psychologically ready to handle food. TIA for your advice.

I can't believe that my VSG is tomorrow - June 24! Anxious, nervous and all the emotions. Trying to focus on the positives. I'm so proud of making it through the preop diet. Thought for sure I would yell enough! My hubby is very surprised. It hasn't been all the bad and great prep for afterwards! This forum has been a tremendous help! Never afraid to ask a question. Good luck tomorrow to my fellow sleevers! We're going to be fantastic!!!

I am 2 days post op. I just got home from the hospital. My stomach is sore, but what's really bothering me is all of this air in my body. I feel like it's sitting in my chest and stomach. It's quite painful. Did this happen with most people?

  7. Started by over nighter,

Well it finally came time , I had gotten my weight down to 215lbs. I figured it would make my surgery easier . They had scheduled 1.5 hours including fixing my hyiadal hernia. Well the hernia was bigger then expected plus they had problems moving the liver due to the fat stuck to it. They had to call in a second Dr and 5 hrs later it was done. Today is the 26th I am drinking the half full medicine cups of water. But the bloating is killing me. I feel good when I wake up but then once I start drinking I fill up with air again. Any suggestions ?

  9. I am very excited! Due to a myriad of health issues over the last 3 months, I've already had most of the pre-op testing required. I just have to get with my PCP to have the records sent over to the surgeon. I live in MD, and will be using Dr. Kim at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace. I am starting my three-month supervised weight loss with the team. They want me to lose 5% of my weight by surgery. I started following as many of their recommendations as I could yesterday, and by last night I was totally freaking out. My relationship with food is so strong, and so TWISTED. The thing is, I really and truly love healthy food, and always get my nutrients in…

  11. Lost 17# first week- but I was really feeling bad. First 2 days I felt like I was starving but couldn't take anything but liquids in. I have no energy since the surgery and my physician is running blood tests to see if there is anything we can do to giver more energy. I have low testosterone and that could be a major problem. Any suggestion will be appreciated. I live in North Las Vegas by the way.

Hello, My journey began in March 2009. I had researched weight lose surgery for quite awhile before choosing to have the lap band. I wasn't really a candidate, according to most, for the gastric, so this seemed like the most logical choice. I had my surgery 3/9/2009, weighed in at 211 lbs and am 5'1" tall. I was pretty short, so I was pretty round. I didn't have any major complications, most everything was right on track. I lost quite a bit of weight in the first 6 months, by 9 months I had been down 63 lbs. I felt great and I looked great. Then, all heck broke loose. In April 2012, my husband was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He began chemo and then in Novembe…

The word no WLS patient wants to hear (Gasp!!!) I've hit this bad boy head on this week and have stalled my weight loss. I'm averaging 3-4 miles walking a day. At first, I thought that I was building muscle, because the inches were shredding. Getting on the scale today though, and seeing the same 3 numbers staring me in the face (they're giggling at me, too!), I had to revisit my diet and see if I could find where the breakdown is. A big mistake on my part was not keeping a food journal. So I had to go by memory, meal after meal. I'm so focused on Protein and liquid, that I'm not really looking at my caloric in-take. Oops. It looks like that is the problem too.…

  20. Hello everyone! I'm getting banded tomorrow at 10:30. Gosh...it's a bit overwhelming. I had my initial consultation with my surgeon three weeks ago and I'm already scheduled for surgery. I don't know how I feel about it all... I'm very stoked about having the surgery date and am looking forward to a better future... but there are things that weigh my mind. I am no stranger to having surgeries...and....quite frankly, I'm not looking forward to it. It conjures up too many bad memories and I just hope the first few weeks will fly by. My surgeon doesn't do a pre-op diet and I found out two days ago that I'll have the surgery tomorrow. I've been put on a clear liquid …

Hi Everyone, I am starting my journey and I figured I would write about it thinking it will be nice one day to look back and see how far I've come. Yesterday was Day 1 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Let's just say it was rough. I can't lie, I really wanted to eat something. I was supposed to have 4 shakes, and I only had 3. I did have some broth (added some unflavored Protein powder) in between and I had one string cheese. I know, it's not liquid but I was literally starving and figured based on other per-op diets, it was the best choice as it was protein. Anyway, I know today I will definitely have all 4 Protein drinks and see if that helps me. Surprisingly, I am n…

Less two months till I finish with my 6 months stuff. My biggest worry is with insurance. My BMI is 37.5 with comorbidity of sleep apnea and possibly high blood pressure. My question is, has anyone dealt with GEHA or has anyone had any problems with them. If no problem, once six months was met with all requirements, how long did it take for them to approve? My sixth month will me early August and hope to have surgery early Sept. Thank you for any info that anyone can provide.

Had my mammogram and lab work last week. Am scheduled for colonoscopy and EGD on Thurs. I have been really hopeful and excited, thinking I can really get this done and maybe sooner than I'd hoped. Well, got results today. Iron is half what it should be and mammogram is abnormal. So the NUT said I have to take a double dose of iron for at least 30 days, then a retest. And I'll have a diag mammo and ultrasound tomorrow. Remaining appointments are postponed. I don't want to feel sorry for myself. I hate that feeling. But I am still feeling blue and nervous tonight.

I lost over 100 lbs on the Lap-Band within one years time.I managed to keep the weight off for a while then it slowly crept back on. I was finally at a point where the band began to give more so many problems and I had to have it removed. By the time I had it removed I already had gained 60-65 lbs back. When I had it removed I knew that I had to go ahead and inquire about the sleeve because I felt all of my same bad habits falling back into place.. Overeating, always hungry, eating bad foods, …

A new bike seems to be a common reward on Bariatric Pal for staying on track and making the band work. I told myself that when I was 1/2 way to goal (50lbs), I would splurge on a new bike just for me. In the past, I have bought crappy old bikes with squeaky seats and loud breaks. Oh sure, I have spent good money to get my kid the bike he wants year over year, but for myself, not so much. Well this time I splurged on myself! I bought an Electra 7-Speed Cruiser. The base model comes without fenders, so I had them add white fenders to give it a retro feel. Of course I also bought a basket and the required bell to ring "Hello!". Yesterday my friends and I went on an advent…

This is actually my SECOND first surgeon visit lol. Last summer, I started the journey towards banding. I attended the info session at the hospital, but after my first surgeon's visit, I backed out. I thought, if I can follow the 3 month required pre-op weight loss regimen, I should be able to finish it myself. (Um, I was wrong.) Also, the doctor made me a little uncomfortable, because he was insisting that I would be able to stop using insulin after the surgery, and I'm a Type 1 diabetic, and require insulin to live. I spent the last year trying intermittently to lose weight, and couldn't keep it up on my own. Meanwhile, my knees and hips and back started to compl…
