  1. Hi all-- My first posting! I just got my insurance approval and medical clearance this week to get sleeved on July 28! I started my journey in mid-January (I hate New Year's resolutions ) at about 305 lbs at 5'8". I'd packed on over 135lbs over the last 10 years...yeesh! I was pre-diabetic, high cholesterol, severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure, on three medications, and just physically miserable. Walking around the block was a chore. So in mid-January I started back at the gym and eating better. I started the 3-month bariatric nutrition program and counseling in March, both of which were wonderful. It's now two weeks until my surgery and I'm down to 245lbs on my o…

I said that forever....but I finally decided that I wasn't happy with the me I had become. For all of my life I had been obese, and even though my family loved me...I no longer did. So I have taken the step to make this journey to change my life and I have never been more happy! I would like to have the gastric sleeve at St. Mary's in Huntington, WV. Because of insurance requirements, I have about 6 months to go. I'm in this for the long haul.

Okay, so it's really real now! I am 43 and a single mom and my surgery is set for July 7th at 8:00 AM. I am so nervous, and preoccupied, 4th of July, what's that?! All I can think about is what will it all look like. What will I eat? Really? A liquid diet for a month? Will I really feel full? Am I going to be able to do this? What about feeding my kids, there is just so much running through my head, I can't seem to wrap it all up. There are a lot of reasons for the surgery. I am a single mom of two little girls, 4 and 5 and I am their sole source of support. Right now, at close to 260, I can't run with them, I can't go for long hikes, I can't put on a bathing…

The striped shirt is two days before surgery, tight 24 jeans. The blue shirt is yesterday in 16w jeans. I'm thrilled with my sleeve! So glad I didn't chicken out!

I so I have been at this approval process since April. Regular gp visit. Seminar, bloodwork, EKG,endoscopy, psych exam and at least 5 trips @ 120 miles to clinic with time off work. Today I hear that the hospital is not considered center of excellence so I have to start again with new facility. I am heart broken. Anyone else have to start over and do your clearances carry to new doctors? I am not giving up but I am so down.

  23. Hello all, I had my VSG on May 20 and now 6 weeks and 4 days post-op. After a severe illness as a toddler, I became very obese as a small child. This was partly due to a medication I was taking and prtly due to obese parents with horrible health habits. We were clean plate club members, ate huge portions all of the time, and often ate at restaurants or fast food establishments. I lost a lot of weight in middle scholl and became somewhat normal-sized through college. Gradually, through three pregnancies and the stress of being a mom to 3 kids while working and going to graduate school, I gained up to a heaviest weight of 250 lbs. Over the last 3 years, I watched sever…

I am just curious I see posts where people say all they can eat is 4 bites of this or that so tell me how do you expect to get your Protein in especially Fiber from veggies. The whole idea is to get your protein and fiber from natural sources like food. The whole idea is not to continue Protein shakes for the rest of your life. So if you cannot feed yourself adequately how is this a good thing. Because it seems like people are happy they can only fit in 3 or 4 ounces of food per meal. Then people complain they are having constipation well of course you are your not eating enough for the body to produce a healthy bowel movement.

Hello all! I recently had RNY GB (6/11/14). Feeling great so far! I'm 34 and before surgery, I tipped the scales at a studly 346lbs. After weighing in this morning, I'm at 295!!! I had a "castaway" moment where I looked back at the island (300+lbs for over a decade) and just began to choke up. My surgeon was the great Dr. Marema, in St Augustine, Fl. I had no complications and was out of the hospital the next day (not typical apparently). In my opinion, the most important part of all of this was the prep. I had 3 weeks and in that 3 weeks I made the tough decision not to be a slave to food and to exercise, exercise, exercise! I ended up losing 30lbs pre-op…

Hi everyone. I'm relatively new on my journey. After years of visits to my GP, earlier this year I was referred to the dietician. That appointment was in March. She instantly decided surgery was the option for me, and after 3 months of weight tracking and meetings, I am on a waiting list to be referred to a surgeon. Apparently that takes 8 weeks. The hospital I am being referred to only opts for bypass or sleeve surgery. I feel sleeve will be best for me, but apparently that decision ultimately lies with my surgeon! Is anyone else at this stage in their process? Apparently I should be looking to have had the operation early in the new year - should all go well. But …

  34. Dear Friends, I had become utterly dismayed with my band. For so long it was too tight, causing me to become a maladaptive eater. I basically drank sugary liquids instead of eating food. While I didn't gain weight, I didn't lose either. Finally, I saw the lap band nutritionist and I've lost 15 pounds in a couple of weeks by cutting sugar and counting calories on MyFitnessPal. The app has helped me tremendously and I am back on track. Just had my band tightened a tiny bit (had it loosened a lot a few weeks ago) and now I feel I am FINALLY in the green zone. Not too loose, not too tight. I am getting full sooner but not throwing up. Feels good to be starting ov…

So I am living with this band for almost 5 years and have only lost 50 lbs bringing me to 330 lbs. Have arthritis in hips and knees and need cane to get around. But was told if I can lose weight that the mobility would be much better. I live on Fage yogurt and Boost protein drinks/ NO more. Anyone else have a similar problem?????????????
