Hi out there in WLS land. I'm so looking forward to becoming a new resident. I hope your all nice neighbors, although I do understand that there is always one @$)(:&@@. My surgery date is July 30th. I'm 54 years old and a RN. So that just makes me to smart for my own good. I have to say though that reading all your post has made me feel a lot better. So here is my question. What do I need to pack for my trip to WLS land? And what do I need to expect after becoming a new neighbor. I would assume Cookies at the door won't be happening! Honestly, I'm scared but determined. So many years wasted. I am 5'9 and weigh 256lbs. I have Type I I DM, HTN, Restless leg synd…

I had gastric bypass done on 6/24/14. Have any if you experienced anxiety or tearfulness after surgery? I think physically I am progressing well but my emotions are a mess. Sometimes I am so anxious I can't leave the house to even go walking. Has anyone else experienced this? I just feel so tired, overwhelmed, and ill equipped to handle all the changes taking place. I'd appreciate any insight anyone has as I'm feeling pretty sad & overwhelmed.

I am in my last month of insurance required diet. My final appointment is on July 28th, and it can't get here soon enough. This has been a long hard journey to get insurance approval (been denied twice). I've switched hospitals, and feel a lot more confident with my current surgery coordinator. I'm in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Stahl is my surgeon @ UAB. My surgery will most likely be in September. I have PCOS and insulin resistance resistance, and finally getting the weight off will hopefully increase my chances of conceiving. I would love to hear from other sleevers.

Hi all!! Quick question...what can I expect if my band has slipped or is corroded? If it has slipped, will they reposition? If corroded...they would remove it? If they remove would it be replaced? Thanks for the information!

My sad devestaion with Weight! Many happy moment that I can recall surrounded my weight; such as meeting the love of my life that makes me happy and many other solid blissful memories. The saddest moment were that I couldn't enjoy the simple things in life due to weight restrictions. People avoided my line at grocery stores because they couldn't manuevere around me. I got a lot of stares and nasty comments through the years! As I hardened myself to the negativity I put up a barricade. I figured I could brush off the remarks on my size and stay comfortable where I am at. Then it dawned on me, I have stomach pain that presses on internal organs and bl…

Hi! My name is Samantha. I am a little over 2 weeks post-op.let me start off a bit about me. I weighed almost 500 lbs before surgery. I felt horrible going out in public cause people would stare at me and sniggered as I walked by or rode a motorized cart in Wal-Mart or Krogers. I am disabled by the state. Since the surgery I get around a lot better. I went shopping just this past week and I wore make-up for the first time in several years. I felt good, I was smiling and talking to people like crazy. I do not regret my surgery even though I miss Taco Bell and other fast food. But I look in the future and look at the long term. I advise anyone who wants the surgery, should…

I'm attempting to get a whole protein drink in today..my goal is to get 3 in a day which would be my 90g of protein, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Sipping on water and G2 when I'm awake. Pretty painful so taking my meds every 3-4 hours makes me pretty sleepy. Don't even wanna try taking all my meds blah. Trying to stay optimistic though that this will all get better every day

I am a wife and mother of two boys. I am a leukemia patient in remission since 2004 but still underwent two years of chemotherapy with no relapse occurrence. I love camping, cooking, reading and racing. My husband and I spend most of our time with our children. We rarely eat out as we live in rural area outside of our local towns. I do most of the cooking in our home. I have been heavy all my life. After my 2nd son, my weight gain has been significant and have worked with doctors/diet programs to try to control it without success. Since then my health has been declining and in the last year, more rapidly. I have severe asthma despite treatment with severe attacks and the…

Ok guys I'm 1 week & 1 day post op. I went for my follow up yesterday & was told I could move on to mushies. Yay! So super excited I came home & fixed me some instant mashed potatoes. Big mistake! I felt like heck after eating them. I think it's bc I prob ate too fast, they may not have been "thin" enough & I didn't drink anything with them. So finally around 9:30 this morning (that was at 3:00 the day b4) I was able to tolerate an instant Carnations breakfast drink. I did fine all day & thought I would try the potatoes again. Even bigger mistake!! I thinned them up really good, drank some water with them & only had maybe 5 bites. Omgosh! Y'all I t…

So I had my sleeve done may 30 and she saw how successful I've been so far, she's also overweight and my dad kept on telling her it would be a great idea for her to do it as well and she agreed. She just wanted to see on me how did it go the first month. so now its her turn. SHES HAVING IT TOMORROW.. She asked me if I can please ask all of you what are some recommendations you give her? Since many of you are around her age, (I'm only 20 years so the process is way different) Also a list of things she must have in the hospital. She's going to be in the hospital 2 nights and 3 days. Thank you all for your support!!!

i am a 59 year old female from NYC. I was so psyched to get the surgery for better health as well as appearance. I have been a registered nurse for 40 years and work as a director of nursing. HOPEFULLY YOU CAN HELP ME OUT. I HAD THE SURGERY A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO AND IT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AS A LAPBAND WAS PUT IN THAT ONLY GOES 3/4 OF THE WAY AROUND. I AM AFRAID TO HAVE IT RECTIFIED BY THE SAME PHYSICIAN AGAIN. MANY OTHER DOCTORS DO NOT WANT TO TOUCH ANOTHER DOCTORS WORK. I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP AS THE WEIGHT IS OUT OF CONTROL AND AFFECTING MY HEALTH AND EVERYDAY TASKS. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP. I WILL BE ON VACATION FOR 2 WEEKS BUT WILL BE CHECKING MY EM…

In 5 days, I will be having a vertical sleeve done. I have been overweight my entire life. And food was a comfort zone. Unfortunately, as a child these habits were born through my mother. I have no blame or I'll feelings towards her, she battled obesity her entire life as well as her mother. It's a lovely family trait... Any who.. Fast forward to 3 years ago. My fiance and I became a couple. Relationships and I are not friends when it comes to my health. I get lazy, I eat out with my boyfriend, I eat more food than I should, more often than I should. I was stupid, I didn't pay attention to what I'm doing. I gained 70 pounds and ended up at 320 pounds which I then su…

Tomorrow will be one week since I had RnY Gastric Bypass...to say I'm struggling is a total understatement. I have this tightness/pressure in my belly (still have my drain in...pulled Tuesday hopefully), diarrhea (how does that happen when I'm barely putting anything in my body), and nausea...really, it's only when I try to get my Protein shake down which is unbearable. I can't finish one. I'm tired and weak too. Is this normal? Tell me it will pass! I need some light shed. Everyone tells you their horror story and I'm tired of hearing them because so far, I feel like I'm living in one. I'm sure much of this is emotional too. I worry I'll never eat normal food …

I am posting this to encourage anyone that has had or is thinking of having roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery. I had my surgery at North Florida Regional Hospital by Dr. Alex McGregor in 1994. He has passed since then, but I will forever remember what he said to me at my goal weight appointment when I thanked him. He said no, it wasn't him. He just gave me the tool...I am the one who did all the work. Wow.... I had many health issues that were resolved because of the surgery. I started at 229 lbs. 5'2". It took me about 9 months to lose 110 lbs. I had a good support system including a friend who also had the surgery back in 1988. I will be 59 years old this comin…

7 years go I decided to make the move to get the lap-band. I was able to successfully lose 40 lbs. However, the tool that I thought would help ended up not working with me. I was very good restricted and not getting in enough proper nutrients. A lot of vomiting which in turn plays a head game of great I can eat today get in as much as you can because tomorrow you could be back to starving because nothin will go down. I also had constant reflux and all combined made any social outing hard. I made the decision to have my band removed. I am one week post op and feel incredibly free!! I started to giggle when I burped as I haven't done that in 7 years! I ate my first scram…

I have literally fought, cried, prayed, and sought after WLS for 8 years. My first attempt was in 2006 and was denied because my insurance required 5 years of documented weight history (that I couldn't provide), plus a 6 month waiting period. After that I went on my own personal journey to lose the weight, and regained it of course. Then i attempted again in 2010 and paid for cobra for 6 months to only find that they had made a revision to my insurance after the new year, and no longer covered WLS. So finally after all of my attempts, and failed natural attempts at keeping the weight off, i received an approval from BCBS and have my surgery date of July 25th. I have …

Dec. 3, 2013 was the day I had the opportunity to start regaining my life back. I chose to have the gastric bypass performed and had to endure the infamous 2 day pre-op diet. I must say that that was the hardest thing ever for me. On surgery day, all was well until the actually procedure began. During the procedure it was revealed that I had a hiatal hernia and my stomach had been positioned in my chest area. Nevertheless, he took care of those issues and everything was fine from that point. Now, I'm 5 days post-op and I'm sore without any pain. I've lost 6 celebrated lbs. since my surgery and plan on checking again during my first post-op apt Dec. 16th. The only challeng…

Hi. I was sleeved June 27, 2014 in Juarez, Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez through the BeLiteWeight.com program. I just wanted to tell you my experience thus far, and I am also a nurse so I was very observant during my hospital stay. I was advised to be there on June 26, 2014 and was picked up by a taxi at the El Paso, TX airport. I was scared to death when I saw the taxi which was a bright orange van, very dirty, with hardly no air-conditioning. The driver was pleasant, courteous, but did not speak English. I was pleasantly surprised when another lady from Arkansas boarded the van with her young daughter and we immediately bonded and my nerves were eased up. The trip across the …

However, I'm out 23 days and have lost 22 pounds, so with all the info I get here and all the support I've seen others receive, I know it's NORMAL!!! And I'll get through it and I'm not through losing weight and I'll be fine next week and the week after and I will reach my goals! Thanks to all of you who help! Ginger

Such nice people, all of them, all kindred spirits, and so supportive. I can't wait for the next one! So only my CPAP reading on Monday left and then all my prereqs are done! Only delay will be anemia... A month of iron pills. Oh well, I'll be stronger and really ready to go by then! What an exciting journey we are all on!

so, I am all set up with my initial appointment so I will add to this thread as I go. I have been overweight for about 20 years. I am 42 and recently within the last two years I have found that while I can starve myself to lose 20 lbs in several weeks, it effortlessly comes back and then some and I have learned that I am somewhat of an emotional eater. I had Kaiser insurance for the last 6 years and I was not covered for WLS so I just accepted that I would be this weight. A recent visit with my new DR, and she talked to me about WLS and I of course said, oh I cant my Ins wont cover it...she left the room and came back with a surprise for me that under my new plan, I …

1 month post op. It's been a roller coaster, I got a intestinal infection my 6th day and I had to go back to the hospital because by mistake I was not drinking a antibiotic I was supposed to. Diarrea for 5 days with out eating nor drinking anything only with serium in the hospital (didn't know where the diarrea came from). Any way, today I cried the whole day to my mom because I am regreting this surgery, I'm 20 years old I don't live in the same country my parents do because I am in college (right now im in Summer so I have until August with them) I feel I'm never going to be a normal person again, I always eat nervous thinking something wrong is going to happen while ea…

Hiya all! Thanks so much for everyone responding to my last post on gas pain! It really helped and thank goodness...I'm 12 days post-op and that pain is gone. Now I have a new concern....I'm hungry all the time...not losing weight, eating only Soup and Water, and no longer feel like I've even had surgery at all. There's no restriction, I'm starved, but even though my max calories are 900 a day, there's just no scale movement. It's miserable and I wonder if people really lose a lot of weight in these first weeks before the first fill? I already feel a bit of a failure as I had wanted to feel a bit more satiated. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks guys xx

It's been one week since I met with my surgeon and his team for my first appointment. I was given a list of habits to adopt pre-surgery to make it an easier transition post-surgery. This list is now hanging on my frig, and my plan is to check them off as I achieve them. Well, I selected what I thought would be the easiest to start with, and I'm having a really tough time. I am trying to take small bites and chew my food completely, and to not drink while eating and take tiny sips when I do drink. These two are proving to take a lot of concentration, and the truth is, I probably should have started with mindful eating. I eat two meals a day at my desk while working…

Well, I got tired of walking and exercising in front of my TV, so I joined 24 Hour Fitness yesterday and went for my first workout today! I was so nervous going in, but quickly saw all the different body shapes and ages. Yes, there were some buffed out guys lifting weights, but they paid no attention to me. Tomorrow I'm going to take the aqua class (it's one of the Super Sports Centers, so they have everything) and next Tuesday I get my free orientation so I can learn all about the big, scary machines, LOL! Anyway, I'm excited for this next new phase in my weight loss journey!
