Until I had the surgery, until I lost 42 pounds when I did laundry I had three piles, darks mostly black, whites mostly towels and sheets. Today when I did laundry I had four piles darks mostly blues as in blue jeans sizes 14 -16s thank you very much, then colors such is purples and greens and blues and pinks. And of course towels and sheets. I never really thought about how much black I wore until I saw three items in that dark pile that were black and I was surprised. I looked at old pictures of myself from last summer, the very few I was actually in, All I used to wear was black. I love colors!

I am 5 days post-op and between my pre-op diet and my surgery, I have lost 21 lbs. in 3 weeks. I am finally starting to feel like this was worth it. I had a few days wondering if this was a good choice to make at 23, but I have come to realize that I need this. My future depends on this. I am struggling with fluid intake, but trying to stay positive and do my best!

I am 5 months post op next week. I began my journey at 315 and am about 225 today. Most importantly, I feel wonderful. I had a sleeve performed by Dr. Thomas Umbach in Las Vegas. I used BridgeHealth for insurance purposes though I have BCBS of Illinois. BridgeHealt flew my wife and myself out, provided a beautiful hotel which happened to have free continental breakfasts, they gave us $800.00 for food and incidentals, paid 100% of my surgery costs and when all was done gave me a $1000.00 credit on my healthcare spending account. If they could have done more, I sure do not know what it would have been. Dr. Umbach and his staff at Blossom Bariatrics in Henderson (sout…

I was banded in 2008. Weighed in at 223lbs, by 2010 I was down to 162lbs. Didn't make goal, but was feeling great and very happy with the loss I had so far. In 2011 I was pregnant with my first child and up to 174lbs a gain of 12lbs, my pregnancy went well, I gained close to 20lbs and lost it in 2 weeks after giving birth. Suddenly without warning my band got so tight I had reflux and could not get much food in. I decided an adjustment was in order and I had my band adjusted (unfill) I thought I was doing great and felt happy that I had lost the baby weight. Slowly I started gaining weight again. It was tough and it didn't seem like I had control over my eating, the band …

Hello, everyone! I was sleeved on 4/15 and have had much success. As of today, I am down approximately 70 lbs. It was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. My energy level bounced back, my back pain is subsiding. I am going back to the person I once was. However, it seems we've hit a bump in the road. My kids have had a nasty virus/cold turned into upper respiratory track infection. I got the same thing. It appears mine settled into a bronchitis. My asthma acted up and I was given Augmentin for the infection. My surgeon encouraged me to ask my PCP for Levaquin as the augmentin would be too much for my stomach to handle.. So, I've been taking the Levaquin.…

June 25, 2014, is my surgery date. Today as I am getting ready to order mexican for the last time for a long time, I am disturbingly sad. I am sitting here thinking about all of the foods I am going to miss so much including Jersey Mike's Subs, Papa John's pizza, McDonald's double cheeseburgers, potato salad, ribs, spaghetti and meatballs. My goodness, I am pathetic, my list could go on and on. I know I need to get it together. I keep asking myself if I am doing the right thing. Could I do this on my own? I was skinny once. Surely I can do it again without something this drastic. My emotions are all over the place. I am curious if anyone else out there has/had the same em…

It's true that people take advantage of the small things in life. I read on here that some one just wanted to shop at Wal-mart. It's amazing to me that it's all about perspective and that achievements are achievements no matter how seemingly tiny. I can officially cross my legs like a girl. I also posted a full body pic on Facebook. Anyone else have things like this?

Today is day one after having my laparoscopic sleeve done yesterday. I guess you can't count the first day (or so the nurse has told me). I am currently writing from my hospital room and I can't tell you the pleasure it brings me to be up and around, feeling good and seeing a very bright future. Its been a long road to get to this point but I gained the knowledge and the courage with the time. I was not super open about having this done with friends or family for the first part of this journey due to the fact I really didn't want to hear their opinions, horror stories they have heard, or even their praise until I myself was secure with the decision. Its a tough fact …

I'm so frustrated right now and just need to vent. I started this journey at the beginning of the year with hopes that I could have my surgery this summer. I got the last of my clearances done on May 28th. My Bariatric Advocate said she would submit the paperwork to insurance the next day. Well, I called Anthem 12 days later (June 9)to see if the insurance had made a decision yet. They said they were still waiting on a final form from the surgeon's office. So, I called the surgeon's office and she said they were waiting on a form from insurance, but she was "just getting ready to call them" and would submit it that day. She said if they approved in the next 3 weeks,…

I am wondering how do we treat others that are overweight when we are overweight vs how we treat people when we lose weight. I see a lot of people who become Conceded and not Confident....Do you notice once people lose weight that they treat other obese or overweight people different? sometimes in a good way or sometimes in a bad way?

Hi everyone, I am recovering currently from my third surgery to do with my lapband. After my first band I had a lot of success losing weight, however it reached a point after about a year where I was unable to eat and was vomiting almost immediately every time I ate. I lost about 30kgs this way, but was (obviously) very miserable, exhausted an tired all the time vomiting up coffee ground-like blood and in and out of hospital. People thought I had an eating disorder and it affected my relationships, moods and ability to complete my job properly. The band was moving only when full so the first few attempts to find the issue were unsuccessful. Once we did an x-ray swallo…

I'm new to this site and looking for all the support I can get (tough love is welcomed, I can handle it)! My story started nearly 13 years ago when I had a VBG (vertical banded gastroplasty). At the time I was committed to living a healthier lifestyle (making good food choices and exercising everyday). Over the first 18 months I lost 114 lbs and gained a new baby. Yes, four months after wls I became pregnant (that's a whole other story), and a little over a year from the date of surgery I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Needless to say, my focus became all about taking care of a new baby. Over the years the weight crept back on (poor eating choices, no exercise, …

I went to the County Fair today and did not sample ANY fair food! Not a deep fried Oreo, funnel cake, or hand dipped corn dog passed these lips! I brought my own lunch, as did my 20 month old grandson, and we ate together while his mom and dad ordered their lunch, then we went exploring while they ate. Not only am I proud, my wallet is SO happy with me! I'm counting this as a big NSV!!

I have been meaning to come and post for so long but hadn't had the time. I want anyone who is considering the Sleeve to stop worrying and just do it. I am almost 9 months out and have lost close to 130#. It's not an easy road by any means but when people say it's the best thing they have ever done for themselves, they mean it. I always thought they were nuts to say how much they loved their sleeve, but it's a life saver. I started at 278 pounds, 5'8" and just like most people I had tried everything in the book to lose weight. When you get to a certain point it's just so difficult and discouraging to stay on track. July 8th will be my 9 month and I am now at 157 …

Here is a cute bedtime story that I found on-line. When my two grown daughters were little tykes, I used to read this to them.. This story was is in a collection. It was in a book "Believe and Make Believe, by the Sherman Reading Series. Anyway, the moral of the story is about how picky eaters should try new things. Goodfor the kids and a good reminder for us to expand our culinary horizons. Story is atached.cheese AND PEAS AND chocolate pudding story only.docx

I have now followed this forum for a while with great interest. I have had lapband surgery 7 years ago, lost 35kg (77 pound) had major problems got that fixed and major problems again. So here I am, morbidly obese, the 77 found me again and then some and I am in extreme agony and pain. Everything hurts, back, feet (especially), hips, ego and dignity - name it. It also does not help that I am extremely short. Tonight is a bad night and I need some support. I have made the decision to change to bypass and see the dr on 16 July. I cannot go on like this. I cannot walk 100 metres without crying out in pain. A question to all of you that had more than 150 pounds to lose, were …

To start with I found this site helpful and full of info... Or so I thought I have now learnt that everyone is told a different thing by their surgeons and nurses & that everyone thinks they know best and that everyone feels the need to share that with everyone ... So this is my last post .. I'm not even sure it will be read becUse I am going to delete my account.. It's my fault I hate this site because for some reason I expected people to be different on here.. Turns out this is just like every other site out there ... Shit !!

Well....I just had my surgery on Tuesday and here it is Saturday evening and I am afraid to go to sleep. I was asleep earlier to night but then was woke up violently coughing. Those of you who have already had the surgery know that coughing is not your favorite thing in the world. It hurts!!! I means, really hurts! Anyway, so because it's the weekend and I'm not going to go back to sleep until I am sure it isn't going to happen again, I call the on-call doctor. Turns out that it is re-flux. Hmmmm...didn't see that coming. So - the on-call doctor just told me to sleep sitting up. So, after a while here I will once again try to go to sleep. Feeling a bit silly for calling t…

Here I am, sitting in my hospital bed the day after surgery. All went well with the surgery, and I have been feeling better then expected so far. Some small problems with nausea last night after my walks. I attribute that to the anesthesia, and morphine. Waiting for my leakage checks, and then seeing what my new stomach will tolerate. So far........exceeding expectations.

I got my sleeve two months ago today! I know compared to many, I still have a long way to go, yet I feel like I have already come so far! As of this morning I have lost 25 lbs. since my surgery and 76 lbs. since I began my Pre Op program November 1st, 2013. I am 91 lbs. from my goal weight, which I am planning to be at by my birthday on April 2nd. I haven't been at a "normal" weight since before I had my children 24 years ago. I have struggled with my weight and body image my whole life and even when I was at a "normal" weight, I always felt fat. In addition, food has been a reward, celebration, and boredom fighter for as long as I can remember. I don't come from a …

Hi, My name is Brandi, my journey began in 2010, I had been looking at different weight loss options for a while and I decided to attend an information seminar, I started the process but decided to try and loss weight on my own with the help of my doctor and some weight loss medication. I did great and lost 80 pounds on to gain it all back and then some, I got so out of control and I was to a point that I couldn't walk up steps with out gasping for air, I no longer wanted to go to movies, amusement parks, or even out to the store with my husband because my body hurt so bad. I remember the day that I thought if I don't do something I am going to die, I had been sick so …
