Hi Everyone! I am on my way to a healthier lifestyle by choosing to have the Gastric Sleeve procedure done. I am scheduled to have surgery on August 15th 2014, my BIRTHDAY of all days. I have dubbed it my re-birthday. I have some anxiety as whether I have chosen the right procedure for me. My surgeon gave the option of choosing the Sleeve or Bi Pass. If there is any information or stories that you could share with me... please feel free to do so. Much appreciation in advance.

At just under 16 weeks post op I am happy with how things are going for the most part but I constantly find myself looking at other people and trying to guess how much they weight lol don't worry it's all in my head I'm not doing it out loud.. I guess the reason is, it can be very hard to know how much some one weighs by looking at them, I have had work mates and friends tell me how much they weigh and I was shocked to find out I weigh less than them, I am very short so ANY extra weight I carry makes me look "fat" so right now I weigh 191 lbs and I can be stamina next to someone who weighs 210 lbs and they look smaller than me because of my ridiculously short height lo…

  8. How long did it take you to reach your goal weight? I'm at 4 months and only about 45% to my goal weight. I feel like a lot of the people's posts that I've read had them reaching near goal at 6 months. I'm thinking that's not happening for me in 2 months time.

  11. I'm new to this site so I thought I would share my learning experience this far! My surgery was on 4/17/14 so I'm 13 weeks out. I had my first fill at the end of May but didn't need a lot at that time. I felt great with small portions and not feeling hungry very often at all! I have lost 29 pounds so far (started at 205 and now at 176). I was thinking wow, I must be one of the lucky ones who won't require a ton of fills. My surgeon suggested I wait in my second fill because I was feeling good, able to tolerate normal proteins but getting full on small portions and not having annoying hunger issues! Well, that all ended about 3 1/2 weeks ago. It's like all of a sudden a sw…

Hi all! It's about week before my surgery in Tijuana and I'm starting to worry about my skin after all the weight loss. I am hoping that I am young enough (almost 20 years old) that I have enough elasticity in my skin to not have "skin flaps" due to rapid weight loss. I wouldn't be able to have a corrective/ cosmetic surgery to "fix" it until later in life because I don't want to hinder my chances for having children in the future. My mom just had her surgery yesterday and ended up having her unknown urnea repair too! She's very nauseous but good! Help?

I was told not to use Advil or Aleve but Tylenol. However, Tylenol does nothing for me. I normally use Advil for my headaches and I have a really bad headache now. Just wondering if anyone was told thus initially but are able to use now? I am just about 2 weeks out...11days to be exact. Anything else I can take for my headache?

  16. "This time will be different!" she said. Sigh. I spent three weeks gradually cutting down on my caloric intake, cutting out poor food choices, and allowing myself to experience hunger again. I was very proud of the way I handled it, received a lot of praise from my sweetie, and lost 7 lbs! The nutritionist wanted me to lose 14 (5%) over three months, and here I was halfway there in one month. Then came this past week. Saying I strayed is an understatement. Although I know that I ate less than I would have normally if I binged, I definitely went off my plan for 4 days in a row. Greasy, fatty foods and ice cream, both of which I had pretty much weaned myself off…

  22. I've read a lot about different doctors requiring different things for the pre-op diet, some Clear liquids for 2 weeks, a month, one meal, no meal...all different, however, I haven't heRd much about post op. What does your post op diet consist of. I would like to see how different it us as well. My doctor has me on a 2nd week liquid diet, 3rd week soft food, 4thweek soft food and introduce myself to soft meats(ex.fish), 5th week and beyond....enjoy my new small tummy! How about you? Is there anyone out there different than mine? Are just about the same? Are you hungry? Easier pre or post?

I worked on this as I knew sometimes it takes time for your stoma to come around to the restriction. my problem didn't go away and I started to suffer reflux really bad. I told both my pcp and wls . both recommended and prescribed me medication. I did exactly what I was supposed to do. The mistake I made was when it got worse I thought I was having heart trouble. I had so much pain in my chest that over the 4th of july weekend I was popping nitro for chest pain. I could see my heart pound by just looking down. I went and saw my pcp who had me do a…

Hello all Feeling very anxious this evening. Went through all the hoops only to discover my chosen hospital and surgeon would not be covered by insurance. Be careful when you talk to insurance reps! Center or excellence and center of distinction are not the same thing. Now I am traveling a good ways tomorrow to meet with new surgeon and nut. Hoping all my hoops will transfer and they can get me submitted to insurance this week. I think new venue will be for the best but I am nervous and probably will be until I get an actual date. Been at this since April. Wish me luck!

My decision: I knew I was self pay because of my low bmi and lack of insurance covering this. I went in thinking lapband was my only option but changed to sleeve because of the anxiety I had over fills and slips etc with the band. I had horrible labs, ridiculous high numbers in so many areas, hiatal hernia and ulcers on my stomach. My family is super supportive and they are so excited to me to get healthy and active. Yes. I have a cleavage problem. I was once told that v-neck shirts elongate the neck and I have no neck. So now that I have lost 50 lbs my problem is the v is too low. I guess I'll have to invest in some camisoles because I can afford to give up on all these shirts quite yet. This time I am losing so funny, my shoulders,my lower arms,my butt and legs. 33. Hello all! I was awakened from my sleep by severe pains in my upper left shoulder and neck. After taking pain meds an Gas-X, with hopes it was nothing more severe, I started searching online for anyone who could confirm that he pain was gas. I had my procedure done July 14 after spending most of my life with body image issues that ballooned into a bigger body imaged each time I looked in the mirror. So far, my recovery has gone well; with the exception of these severe pains in my left shoulder and neck. It hurts when I take a deep breath, try to burp, swallow... you name it. Since this is pai…

Hi everyone I am new to this forum. I had By Pass surgery on Monday (July 14th,2014). I actually converted to the By Pass after I had my Lap Band Removed (that was placed in 2005) and the surgeon said he saw my problem when he removed the band and the tubing was broken in two. I am in my Clear liquid stage about to move to full liquids in the next day or two. My weight on starting was 316 but I kept some off after the 10% weight loss go round and weighed in at 298 for my Pre-op appointment. I am doing well(I think). I am still taking the Lortab Elixer about 2-3 times a day - is that where others were at this stage or should I be backing off the narcotics already? …

So I finally did it. I backed out in March and April but finally went through with it 4 days ago. I am back home now and feeling pretty good. I had my surgery done at Stanford my Dr. Morton and his extensive team. My stay at the hospital was overall positive. I did get pretty frustrated with how long it took for them to clear my swallow test. Other than that it was a lot smoother then I expected. I was able to get up and start walking an hour after being put in my recovery room. I walked a lot. Probably too much but everyone told me how it would relieve gas pain and I got bored laying in bed all the time. I ended up driving myself home 3 days after the surgery from Hayw…

I'm 27, BMI 33, during the initial consultation my surgeon (Dr Fris in Auckland) felt that it would be a good idea to go ahead and get the blood tests, pysch & dietician consult etc. and everything was very positive. Whichever it was, it was like in my chest, maybe stomach and back....HARD TO DESCRIBE, but it only lasted a second. My guess is it BC my food hasn't had solids in a while or my new tummy not ready, or doesn't like it. Has anyone experienced this?
