I was sleeved on July 29th and am still having a hard time believing that it's finally been done. I've had a wonderful experience and feel very fortunate. My surgeon was/is great, the hospital I had the procedure at is top notch and the nurses and LNAs that took care of me were great. If there is one thing I can recommend is to start walking as soon as you can. I started walking 8 hours after I got to my room and it helped tremendously. I didn't end up needing any pain killers but wished I would have been drugged up when my surgeon removed my drain as that was the worst pain I have ever felt. To date I have lost 9 pounds since surgery. It's really great seeing the sca…

Hello, i wanted to know if you're from NY ? This is last month of my requirement journey. ( my around visit with my surgeon on June 4th ) what is to be expected that day ? I'm just so nervous.. Millions of thought racing through my head and no way of putting them on here lol.. I'm just a little worried about the approval. Everyone tells me not to worry I'll be fine.. But heck there's always a little preoccupation ... What do you think .. I have Healt First. My BMI is at 47.. I weigh 253.. I gained maybe 10 lbs since I started in December.. Which I doubt would be a problem being that I need to lose a little weight before surgery..,

Hello I am having some issues with wanting to revert back to my old ways. It is so stupid but I find myself going against the rules. I was able to eat normal food today . Which excited me! But after I ate I took a large gulp of diet coke! I don't know why I did that ....but I will tell u it was the worst feeling I have ever had! The pain was horrible and it lasted about an hour' the craving was totally not worth the pain . Just wondering if I was the only one who did something like that and how you handled it. I want desperately to loose the weight and I am done 37 pounds! But I don't want to gain or stay the same. Anybody have suggestions The newbie

Hi, My name is Jen, I am 45 years old and I just had surgery July 12th, 2014. I did my surgery in Mexico with Elias Ortiz.(he is amazing). I had thought about many alternatives to this surgery. As I checked each one out I realized they weren't going to work for me. I initially contacted Dr. Ortiz thinking of the sleeve but in reading and learning about the surgeries I learned that the sleeve would most likely make my reflux worse, and I already had it severe. Thus I opted for the bypass. This was all done through A lighter Me. I seriously was so impressed. I want to work for them. Your drivers, and helpers and nurses were all so wonderful. Dr. Ortiz, is just amazing. The …

My name is Shauntrell and I was banned 3/10/14. After the first 2 weeks of my liquid diet I had lost 18 lbs. I thought I was on the right track. After my 6 week post-op visit I was down a total of 22 lbs. I rcvd my first fill which was 3 cc's on 4/23/14. Afterwards, I felt no restriction at all and was hungry all the time. 12 week check up I rcvd a fill of .5 cc's and had only lost 4 lbs. 18 week checkup was 7/16...still feeling hungry and had only lost .5 lbs. My dr gave me another 1.5 cc's. I am currently at 5 cc's but still feeling no restriction at all. Any advice? My next appt is 8/27.

Hi everyone, First post here, located in Canberra, Australia. I go in for surgery on 15 September, so about 6 weeks out. Currently 172cm and 160kg (which I think converts to 5'7" and 352lbs). Half excited/half scared. I've lost a lot weight before but then put it all back on once I dropped off the food plan. At 42 years old and with two young sons I decided I needed to take full control of my weight and take what is really my final chance to get healthy and be there for my family. Not sure what else to put so, "hi" and happy to answer questions etc.

Had my sleeve done on Monday, the 4th, and will be discharged from the hospital in a couple hours. For me, the gas pains and nausea have been the worst of it. The PCA pain medicine made me very nauseated, almost to the point of vomiting, but my nurses have been a wonderful support and help. Switched to a liquid narcotic painkiller and that did the trick with the nausea. Gas is still inside me, and that's been a struggle to get rid of, but doc said it should go away in the next day or so. Fingers crossed! My surgeon was wonderful and has come to check on me frequently after the procedure. So glad I did this, and the procedure is finally done. Now looking forward to t…

Arnold, MD - My GBP surgery was Wednesday 7/30 The surgery was 4 hrs and my recovery was 2 1/2 hrs. I do not remember being wheeled to surgery and I have no memory of recovery at all. I just remember sitting up in bed in my room. I had no pain just feeling sore and bruised my pain meds work great. I came home Friday I feel very tired. I have been walking around the house to relieve the gas. Tomorrow I will take a walk in the morning. I have my first post-op appt Wednesday 8/7 my dr is wonderful and so was the hospital. I would highly recommend him. So far this journey has been great. I love reading all the forums and learning new things on this site.

I'm only POD #5 and I'm feeling great. Walking, starting to get my liquids in easier, much less pain. When I stepped on the scale this morning it was all affirmed that I did the right thing by having the sleeve. I started crying happy tears because maybe I'll finally be able to live the life I want!! So thankful!

I had my surgery June 18, 2014. I've lost 40 lbs so far. I'm happy about the weight loss but I don't feel good a lot of the time. I'm very tired, making it hard to exercise. I usually get sick when I eat, regardless of what it is. I'm hoping it gets better as it's still new. Wish me luck. Any meal tips are appreciated.

Had my sleeve done on Weds! i didnt do well with morphine or anestesia- aside from that, i am home now on my clear liquid diet until sunday. Not for nothing, it is not an easy recovery as people think- its tough and im sore. But it should all be worth it in the end! any encouragement?

Sigh. I don't know if I'm right or wrong here. So I was sitting down talking to my mom about my surgery, and she says "we're going to get through this as a family". So I think cool, they want to help me, I start explaining to her about how I'm going to be on a clear liquid diet for a while and other things and I ask her if she could stop buying certain foods (Cookies, ice cream, and muffins) because it will help me not be tempted and she starts freaking out, like I shot her or something. She said I was self-centered, that I'm not the only one in this house, that I need more self control, that I'm ungrateful ect. I can't believe someone would react like this over some…

I am a 63 year old woman who is facing a gastric bypass on 9/2/14. I was originally going to have a gastrectomy, but my endoscopy showed a small area of Barratts esophagus, and so onto to Plan B. I currently weigh just under 300 lbs. The main reason I am having this done, well--besides being morbidly obese and having hypertension and sleep apnea is I need a knee replacement and there isn't a surgeon that would do it at my current weight. Hopefully, after weight loss I won't knee a replacement. I am wondering though if there are any other "older" indiduals who have had the gastric bypass and if they would share their experience with me?

I do not remember seeing one here, so I am going to start a thread on what we can come back with a sting when someone makes a derogatory comment about our weight loss or accuses us of taking the easy way out. We can keep it tame, like Say, "If you're not on board with my weight loss plans, let's change the subject." Or we can go after them hard with something like "Well then, you should never get on an elevator or drive your car ever again! Oh, I just found a three page thread on this topic from 2012. Here is the link. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/202970-need-comebacks-for-easy-way-out-crack/ What else can we add to it?

Hi y'all! I joined this forum 5 years ago this November. I originally joined for support after my doctor referred me to have the surgery. A few unfortunate events and I had to set it on the back burner (appointment flub up, surgeon going on medical leave followed by my loss of job and consequent insurance). It's now five years later, I've got a steady job and am looking to start the whole process all over again (October 4 will start the ball rolling again!). I'm pretty excited! Weight has been a struggle for me since middle school. I'm now 25, Im 5'3" and weigh 298, my highest was 325 which was less than a year ago now. Ive been pretty lucky and haven't had any chronic …

Hi all! I am hoping to have RNY in November. I am checking out the benefits section at work for short term disability. It says there that they will not approve disability leave for "elective or cosmetic surgeries"...I know wls is technically elective but this could really save my life. Is there any way I can get around this? Any and all input will be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

I just saw a mouthwatering commercial for Denny's Red, White, and Blue pancakes. So, since I don't eat at restaurants hardly any at all, I thought I would look up their alleged nutrition. An 11 ounce serving has 490 calories of which 80 are fat calories, 1280 grams of sodium, 94 carbs, and 36 grams of sugar. In my pre-sleeve life I would have so gone for that without even considering the nutritional values. I am so glad for my new post-op plan. I am not sluggish from sugar or ready to fall asleep at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I do not mind at all to eat at home where the ingredients of any meal can be controlled. That's not a burden - it is a release from the influ…

I'm over 5 weeks post op. I was eating some Light & Fit vanilla Greek yogurt, when I had one of those forehead slapper moments. If I can only eat a cup or two of food per day, I am not going to waste it on anything I don't enjoy. Ever again. The yogurt went into the trash. So will most of the Protein powders and shakes taking up room in my kitchen. No more EGG BEATERS, nasty stuff. I want to savor my food and not just get my protein grams. I've spent much of my life eating things because they were supposed to be better for me. No more. So...now what? I'm gonna have to put some thought into this. I go grocery shopping on Saturdays. We shall see.

Hello, I am 21 & I am 2 days post op for the gastric sleeve surgery. I went under July 30, 2014. The main issue I am having is the gas. It is creating a HUGE DISCOMFORT. Every time I take sips of my sugar free juice it feels like it created more gas in my stomach. I'm not really hungry but I can go for a burger. I'm also afraid to fart. When I farted in the hospital I had loose poop all over myself. Sorry for the information. I haven't burped yet, burping is so difficult. Drinking is difficult, farting is difficult, sitting down, laying up, lying down, they are all difficult. I'm walking around my house as much as I can but it's not pushing the gas out like I want. I …

I am down 50 pounds and many clothing sizes since March 4th surgery - no longer diabetic and off blood pressure medication. I feel fabulous and have so much energy! Visited my grandsons last week in Florida and was the "nanny" for 4 days. We stayed in a hotel most of the time and while it was a little challenging food-wise, the room had a fridge so I stocked up on cheese sticks, hummus, bottled Water, Greek yogurt, etc. Breakfast was included but I stuck to my fat free plain Greek yogurt and added a little honey and almonds (courtesy of the hotel). I ran around with the children for four days and never got tired. No seat belt extender on the plane, walking was no e…

Hi everyone, I have been a silent and non-registered reader on this site for a while, so I decided to officially register today. I am almost at my one-year anniversary for my surgery, and I have to say that one year ago, I never thought I would be this close to my goal weight. As I was deciding to have lap band surgery, I made some serious life-changing decisions including rethinking my whole way of eating and my attitude about food. I didn't expect to get thin per say. I just wanted to be healthy and be able to move better. Now, having lost 130 pounds, I not only feel healthier, but I am healthier. I have tried to follow my surgeon's eating instructions to a T, and I…
