My Gastric bypass was August 12 2014. My weight going in was 265lb I was closer to 280 before the pre op diet. I was not expecting the amount of pain I was in. I mean I'm a nurse and have actually worked in surgery, but the pain blew my mind. I'm allergic to Lortab so the med I came home with was much stronger. I was originally afraid to take it. A friend Finally told me I've got to stay ahead of the pain. Take it every four hours regardless. After doing that the pain was much better. I also had days where I would cry uncontrollably. It's still kind of a shock to my system that I actually went through with this. I'm ten days out now. Feeling much better. I have …

Hi: I am home. I got sleeved 2 days ago. I'm tired and without energy. I have little gas pains, but more pain by my incisions in my stomach. My shoulders feel great. It took awhile to "void" as what the nurses say. I would say PEE myself. Most of all, I'm glad it's over. I can't wait to feel better, stronger, and healthier. I'm hoping in 5 days I'm back to normal. I will see tomorrow what the scale says.

Hi Everyone, I am new to this site. I am in the process of preparation and actually almost ready to see the surgeon (still have one more appointment with nutritionist/social worker in two weeks). I read many success stories, and they are encouraging. I have a few fears about surgery itself, especially the fact that this is elective. This year has been about preparation for this, but I am really wanting to know how many of you would do it again (regardless of how long ago) and how many had serious complications. I have read a few of these am really looking for honesty regardless of how brutal that might be. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi All! I'm new to all this and have my surgery in a week and a half (Aug 19th). I have been reading all your posts and you are all so brave and truly inspiring! I applaud you all! Bravo! I have heard many conflicting accounts of what post op will look like that first week. Mostly people are using words like "hard, difficult, etc." I'm just taking one week off work and I'd like to know everyone's personal accounts of how their first week or two went so I know what I'm in for. Please be as specific as possible. Were you tired, weak, in pain, do you have children to care for and what is your profession, how soon did you go back and what was it like, etc, etc. I'm on the tw…

Hey everyone, I am a new sleever and everything is going fine, except I haven't been in pain since the second day after surgery and all of a sudden today I wake up and try to get out of bed and it felt like my blankets were on fire right under my largest incision it feels really uncomfortable and burning when i bend down, get out of bed, or pretty much any movement. Has anyone else experienced this? I hope its nothing major.

Well I got my approval today, UHC took a little less than a week, got the news today. I am really excited but I am really kind of freaking right now, just waiting on the surgery date, I have to have my $250.00 program fees paid before I can get a surgery date, that will be done Friday, then they will call me with a date, and the blood work appointment and schedule the EGD. Now I am getting scared. Any advice would be appreciated. I have already taken several deep breaths, lol.

Hi All--- I was sleeved on 6/27/14, overall it's been a great experience. The hardest thing I'm dealing with is comparing myself to others. I'm almost 8 weeks post op and have lost 35 lbs. Others I know that had the surgery after me are further along in their weight loss. So I'm looking for a little inspiration and other people who feel great but the number on the scale doesn't show it as much?? Feeling frustrated :/

I had my surgery yesterday morning and it went perfect. I started walking last night around 6pm. The Pain wasn't that bad. I had aching in my belly bot no gas pains thank god. Today I've walked several times and the took me off the morphine. The morphine just helped me sleep. Only my right side seems to hurt for some reason it may be where he pulled my stomach through. Any I just wanted to let you all know that the pain is not that bad. Good luck to everyone getting sleeved this week.

Hi everyone, I am searching for anyone who has gone through as much as I have as far as repairs with the lap band. I got my band April 24 2012 lost maybe 35 lbs and by October of the same yr they discovered I had a detached/flipped port that needed to be fixed in order to continue getting fills. During that time I was not getting any restriction after the first few months after surgery. I had that repaired dec 13th 2013. Continued to get my fills as usual and my surgeon never filled me under fluoroscopy and never measured how much fluid was in there after each fill. Fast forward to two weeks ago after firing my surgeon and finding someone else to do my fills and low and b…

Hi Everyone! My name is Lisa and I have started the process for the 2nd time on getting the sleeve. Last year I went through the process to get approved and a few weeks prior to surgery I backed out. I was scared and I didn't feel like I was ready for such a drastic change in my life. Since then I have been working with a therapist on this. I am 29, married for 5 years and have no kids. I am hopping that making this decision will better my health and allow us to have a family in the future. My husband is very supportive and we have a great relationship but I still worry that it may hurt our relationship. We discussed this and he told me that we have been through some t…

Tuesday afternoon I went to the Bariatric Center for my second of three follow-ups with the team. The first month, I lost 5.6 lbs. I knew I didn't do as well this time, but I expected to see some loss, maybe a couple of pounds, based on my at-home weighing. Their scale says I stayed exactly the same. I was fine with that for about 2 minutes, thinking my first month was really good and I'll work harder next month, but every one of the team members (nurse, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, behavior counselor) was concerned and let me know about it during my 15 minutes with them. They all told me there's a chance the insurance won't approve me for surgery if I don't…

I ate SO much today. TOO much. I kept eating after I was full. I snacked when I wasn't hungry. I ate more at lunch then I usually do. I'm stressed (work) and sad (sudden death of a family friend yesterday) and bored (training). I know these emotions are what caused this episode of overeating. I knew when I was eating that it was emotional. But I couldn't stop. And now I'm miserable. My stomach hurts. And I'm worried that I've stretched my stomach out and I'm going to gain weight back. Only 6 weeks after surgery, and I've already messed up! I feel guilty. (Clearly I have food issues. LOL!) I HATE food. And I HATE how much I love food.

I'm 6 weeks post op and lost about 35lbs all together but 25lbs were from the 2 week pre op diet...I'm pretty frustrated but I think I wasn't shedding the weight off because I was not following the post op diet. This doesn't mean I was eating bad stuff but I did start soft foods about a week after. I stayed away from carbs and focused of protein and I drank as much water as I could but working 8 hours a day at my job is impossible to consume the amount of water I SHOULD have a day. I want to know of anyone else has done this and maybe some advice. I was very careful with eating but I know I took a chance on creating a leak, I don't recommend it for ppl but I'm not a fan o…

Today is a great day! Today I hit the 100lbs mark. I had my RNY on May 12th and as of my weight in today I've lost 100LBS. That is just over 3 months time. I'm doing great and eating healthy every day. I'm at around 700 calories per day and walk 2 miles every morning 5 days a week. I've just started to tone and lift light weights at the gym. I feel great and can't believe that i fit into an x-large shirt now..I was 3/4XL before. THis is the best decision I've made and have 0 regrets. I feel great and have so much more energy.

Here it is 6 days post op and I'm feeling ok. The first few days I was having major regrets! But as long as I stay on schedule with my pain meds, I am feeling pretty good. I'm trying to ween myself from every 4 hours to every 8 hours and each time I feel better and better!! The 2 incisions do not hurt at all but my stomach muscles are what hurt the worst! Lol. Trying to get in my protein shakes and water throughout the day is still a struggle, but I have found that if I keep a water bottle and a cup of crushed ice with me, it really helps on the fluid intake. My taste buds have changed and it's hard to get my protein shakes in because they taste so sweet to me now! …

Hi. I had sleeve surgery Aug 11. I came home the 12th around 8pm. I have had alot of pain and still on pain meds. I have been briefly walking around the house and making sure I get plenty of rest. Of course, I am still on the liguid diet with protein shakes. I can't seem to get enough water down though. I am feeling fatigued. I normally heal faster than this. I am scheduled for a post-op appointment on the 19th and go back to work on the 20th. I don't want to push myself but I am getting frustrated because of the slow progress. I am a single mother of two teens. They have been a great help. But I am feeling overwhelmed because I don't have enough energy to even drink. A…

This may sound crazy but I had a band and plication on 12/30 with starting weight of 268 and I started getting fills in March. I had lost about 28 then. I am down to 227 and I have 6 1/2 cc in a 14 cc band. I still don't have a lot of restriction and my weight loss in the last month or so is none or very little, but for some reason I feel guilty like maybe I am just pigging out because I don't feel resistriction. I am eating between 1250-1350 calories a day and to this day I have NEVER had a problem of any kind! I am grateful for that. Is it nuts that in my mind I figure if I haven't hit my sweet spot by now I must be doing something wrong????? Do most people have …

Sooooo, I have only 1 more appt. in Sept. then I should be done. Well, not so much. I was told since I have had prednisone for my neck (degenerative disk disease, arthritic, with a pinched nerve) I have to wait until 6 more months for surgery. HAHAAHAHAHAHAHA! Then they tell me my PCP said that my sugar has to come down (currently at 7.4 a1c) cause it was 346 at the time of testing. Yeah, the prednisone elevated it and what could I do. I was at the bariatric centers doctor and told them this, they did not mention the time to wait. WTF!!!!! That makes for 1 year to wait!!! There are sooo many meds and problems I have, but have been flying through FOR the surgery, I …

Well.. it has been eighteen months since I was sleeved. I started at 420 pounds (of swinging meat) and have lost 120 pounds. YES!!!!!!! I have enjoyed the weight loss... yes it is good to see my feet.. yes, it was even better to see "Mr. Happy again... yes it feels good to slide into cheap clothes at Walmart (imagine just paying 14 dollars for a pair of jeans at Walmart that use to cost me 74 dollars at the big and tall place. But , I believe I should have lost more. I freely admit, carbs happened, I stopped being as regimented as I was in the first year. I thought because I could only eat three ounces of food within a thirty minute time I would be safe with a cup of …

I regret having this surgery I wish I would have never gotten it. I had my sleeve done on August 11th and here it is August 17th and im still in the hospital because nothing stays down. My surgeon found that I had a hiatul hernia and repaired it during surgery. However, I still have not been able to eat or drink after that...so then he does a dialation and what do u know still nothing is going down to my pouch. I now have to get a stent put in my sleeve to see if that allows me to have any kind of success with holding anything down if not then he will perform gastric bypass on me...I dont think anyone can imagine how i feel right now...Have anyone else experienced this o…
