So about 14 years ago some pretty major things happened in my life to cause infection and need for steriods. This all occurring my freshman year in college. I then stopped exercise and began eating poorly and was on steroids. My boyfriend now husband has always been supportive of me and my endless diet efforts and physician assisted weight loss programs over the years. Unable to conceive Bc of infertility I started thinking about weight loss surgery. After 8 years trying to find out more about the subject and failed attempts to loose weight I finally have a job who's insurance covers the procedure. I immediately prayed about the process contacted the doctor, dr. Willi…

I'm 5 days post op (lap band) and I feel like I still need pain meds even though my doctor only gave me 5 days worth. I've already requested the refill through my pharmacy and my dr. Does anyone have or had pain linger past pain meds? Since I was only prescribed 5 days worth I feel like 1-I'm a wimp or 2-I'm a wimp ???? thanks for the comments. All are welcome ????

Everyone in my family has been VERY supportive of my choice to have the gastric sleeve except my Mother. I've been talking about the surgery for the last 4 months and preparing for it. Today I was at my parents house and I printed off some diet info about the gastric sleeve. My mom asked me what I was reading and when I told her she acted all surprised and said "oh so you're going to do that surgery??" And then looked annoyed about it. Ummm I've been talking about this for 4 months. Why is she acting like she didn't know?? I guess she didn't think I was serious....

I have now lost 50kgs !! Since June 2013 50kgs is a Big deal to anyone who uses the metric system it's like the same deal Americans get when they loose 100lbs FYI my surgery was in April this year I am so happy and it's hard to believe I used to weigh so much more and yes i still have 25kgs (55lbs) to go till I get to my goal weight food ahh food I hate it and love it at the same time, I haven't been sick for a long time now so I feel I know my limitations I still get quite upset when I have 2 mouthfuls of something and am full but hey this is my life for the time being so not much I can do about it . Anyway happy Monday

I had my vsg in July. I'm starting to eat better. But I can't shop for groceries(the right way) for the life of me. Anyone have a meal plan or a small grocery list they would like to share. I'm just like a lost puppy when it comes to this. I've lost 40lbs since I started my liver reduction diet. And 25 since my surgery on the 14th of july.. I'm stuck.

I had my surgery July 30th. I'm having some problems. I was 311 & now 278, but I think I'm at a weight stall. I am in my regular food phase, but I absolutely do not know what to eat. I barley eat at all. I feel hungry but I don't want to eat something that my stomach ends up not agreeing with. I try to map a meal plan & I even lost my focus on that. Protein shakes for some reason I can't not stand anymore. It makes me sick. So far I have eaten pizza (ate the cheese off of it), a few Doritos (I know I shouldn't have ate them but they were the only food that has went down well), I tried a chicken tender (that went down horrible), I accidentally ate Pepper, steak, &a…

Went to Fenway park last night to see tom petty and the heartbreakers! We'll my sister, best friend and her boyfriend all went. The seat were so small we were stuffed like sardines, we are all obese people! It was aweful because I kno people were starring and pointing and laughing! We'll surgery is only 2 days away now, that's all I kept telling myself! Hopefully that was my last " fat trouble" :/ Sarah

Just over two weeks from surgery today (Sept 15). My surgeon wants two weeks of Optifast so I'm doing shakes for Breakfast, bars for lunch and Soup for dinner. I had promised myself I would start today but this morning, when I was making my wife breakfast of bacon and eggs (I do about 90% of the cooking), I was really close to "Well, technically I can start tomorrow...." but caught myself and pushed on with the Optifast. I call that a little victory. So far doing OK, got hungry a bit before lunch but a bit of Water seemed to help me get through. I made the boys some fruit salad this afternoon and caught myselt absent-mindedly eating the odd, very small, cube of appl…

Had my RNY on Monday August 18th in Danville PA at Geisinger. Had some unexpected complications and some annoyances which may someday actually seem funny to me and my family. First off, The Bypass surgery itself went well, the Doctors were very good and the nursing staff...heck even the cleaning staff, made the experience bearable. Now for the bad parts. surgery started at 11 AM on the nose, I was looking at the clock as I took a nice long deep breath. Approx 8 hours later I was finally groggily awake, still in the recovery room looking into the teary eyes of my grandaughter and my husband.Seems i didnt want to breath on my own, every time they turned down the respira…

I am one year out today. Have lost a total of 134 pounds. I went from a size 26 to size 8 pant and am 18 pounds from my goal weight. My blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels are all in normal range. I feel great and have more energy then I've had in years. The past year had its ups and downs. I have had times of failure and times of success. I contoured my emotional eating while assisting caring for and then dealing with the death of my father in law. I walked/ran my first 5k. I spent the summer going to Water parks and doing other activities with my kids I would have not done prior to this journey. I workout 6-7 days a week. I walk anywhere …

Ok guys, I need advice. I had the sleeve on the 12th August, post op I lost about 2-3lb per day after 10 days the weight loss stopped and I've lost nothing for the last 8 days I've lost nothing absolutely zilch ! I guess I was perhaps a relatively low starting weight of 245lb, I'm male and 182cm, currently I'm 222lb, I'm walking / jogging for 30 mins in the morning before work and walking home from work every day (about 45 mins). I have kept a food diary and my average daily intake over the last 10 days has been : calories 650, Fat 16g, Carbs 44g, Protein 80g, drinking 2ltr of water a day, taking all vits etc. So pi$$ed off right now ! What am I doing wrong ! I'm trying s…

I completed my preadmission requirements this morning and I am the first one scheduled for RNY on September 2nd! I have Protein, Vitamins, post surgery meds, and everything I need to drink for the next few weeks. I was nervous earlier in the week but now I am just excited to get this done! The best part, I will stop my diabetes meds the day of the surgery and the surgeon and my primary said the likelihood of me having to start taking them again is VERY low! I can't even begin to describe what a blessing that is to me. I'm about to go pack my hospital bag! Sending positive, healthy vibes to us all! Carol

Today marks 12 weeks since I was sleeved in Tijuana by dr. Corvala. No complications. I'm down 56 lbs. right now but I'm in my second stall. No loss for the last 10 days but I'm trying to be patient! I went from 2x and 3x shirts to size large now. Size 24 jeans to 16. Today I tested my mile time and I've shaved 6 minutes off since my first post op mile. I did a 5k color walk/run a few weeks ago. Crazy! I'm embarrassingly slow but I'm improving! I'm soooo glad I was able to have this surgery!

I had my Laparoscopic RNY Gastric Bypass this morning at 7:30am and all I've been thinking since then is, how incredibly lucky and blessed that it all went so smoothly. I wish everyone's experience could be as great as mine has been. My insurance is great, had no issues getting approval. The surgery itself was straight forward. And, my recovery is going so well so far, even I am surprised. Pain is not bad. The worst pain has been in my back from lying down all day. So blessed. It should be so great for everyone. I went in for my consult weighing 229lbs, weight this morning was 217.5 thanks to 3 week pre-op diet (last week was liquids & veggies only). They only wanted …

Ugh. I'm supposed to be sleeved October 22nd, and the pre-surgery diet is killing me. The doc has me on a modified Atkin's diet to decrease the size of my liver and I've been on it for two weeks now and I hate it. I'm hungry constantly (I keep myself busy with stuff to ignore it) and I have absolutely no energy. It's so frustrating. Has anyone else had to do a modified Atkin's diet before surgery? How did you get through it?

I had the surgery on Thursday afternoon and felt absolutely awful until this afternoon. I couldn't stop vomiting the first day, even though I hadn't drank anything but sips of water and 1/2 Popsicle and 3 or 4 tiny bites of jello. My dr called in a prescription for nausea and so I'm doing much better. I still have to take it a little sooner than 6 hours apart because I feel myself wanting to throw up in about 4-5 hours after I use one. The surgeon also discovered a hiatal hernia so they repaired that. As soon as I woke up from surgery, I regretted the decision to have it and until today I still kind of did. But now, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it'…

Ok, some of you may know me by now (former biggest loser winner) and I'm doing EVERYTHING right. Had my surgery 8/15. Lost 6 lbs prior and 7 lbs post. Scale has not MOVED in 5 days. It's been 3 weeks since I started my "diet" and have not drank, have not had more than 650 cal since the surgery, am trying to hydrate and have been to the gym 10 days straight power walking for 45-60 min daily. As twitter would say: W. T. F. ?? I am 42 and know that metabolism slows, but I assumed it would come off quickly in the beginning. I did this so I wouldn't HAVE to spend 4 hours in the gym. I'm VERY happy with the feeling of fullness and satisfaction with such little and low fat food…

Hello all! I'm new to the site! My name is Antoinette and I'm 29 years old. I'm pre-surgery going through Dr. Kim in Texas. This is not the first time I've attempted to have weight loss surgery. I've tried two other times, but always hit some type of snag with the insurance company. Well since working at my current job, two people told me they successfully had it through our company insurance which is Anthem BCBS. My initial appointment was 03/22/14. I'm 5'1" and my weight was 359.8lbs. I chose the gastric sleeve option. The nurse tried to talk me into getting the duodenal switch but i decided against that. I was told by Dr. Kim he wanted me at 325 or less before he woul…

Hi guys I am 25 years old and about 7 weeks post-op my sw was 286 and current weight is 248. I am happy so far with my sleeve. It was by far the best decision I've ever made for myself. I am horrible at track my protien intake and water as well. My day to day life is hectic just like most I'm sure. I make sure I drink my 50g protien shake throughout the day before eating anything. And when I do eat I have been able to make healthier choices!! I do not weigh out my food like I know we are supposed to. For exercise I am just walking but wondering if I should be doing more? Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated! !!! Sarah

If it were in the Olympics, it would be shoe in for a Gold Medal. If it were a Sports Car it would be a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe. If it were a Planet it would be Jupiter. If it were a Talk Show Host it would Be Oprah. If it were in the Guiness Book of World Records it would be on the Cover. Okay you get what I'm saying here right? Before you think twice please understand that I've had a Lapband... I've had a VSG... and now that I've revised to the RNY Gastric Bypass I finally feel like I've made the best decision for myself. I am 6 weeks post op, lap band imbrication, I was 240 the day of surgery and lost 17 lbs in 2 weeks. Then over the last 4 weeks I have lost 6 more. A total of 23lbs. The biggest misconception for me about weight loss surgery is that I would not be hungry, boy was I wrong!! Lately I have been so hungry I could just EAT!! Like the old way, but I don't my weight loss is going slow and steady I guess, but I sometimes wonder if I could have just done this without the surgery since it is SO hard still, I thought it would be a little easier. I am grateful for the weight that I I have lost and very happy that I have not had any complications anyone else hungry? Anyone else ha…

I have been overweight my entire life, first memory around 11 of someone saying I was overweight or fat. Thankfully, I have always played sports and exercised. I have no "skinny" pictures. I am always the biggest person in family photos. I have always shopped at plus size. For 25 years I have fluctuated between the same 45 pounds, 220 to 265. (One time I got down to 217). In 2011, ate age 39, 1st attempt for insurance approval. It was denied. The insurance company said I was a healthy, morbidly obese person. Then (drumroll please)...... Insurance company requirements change to national standard as of Jan. 1, 2014. Over 40 BMI only qualifies. On 1/1/14, at 1:00 am I s…

Well, Aug 19th was my one year surgeversary. My body has been taking me on new adventures. A few weeks ago I went to Colorado with some friends. This was my first real test since surgery last year. Coming from Louisiana and an altitude of roughly 200 feet above sea level, I made it to about 12,300 feet above sea level before the altitude just got to be to much for me. Physically though, I felt awesome! Knees felt great, heart felt good, everything was great! Only problem was my lungs at that altitude. Last year, I would not have made it half as far as I did. Dang lungs just couldn't handle it...lol Thats ok, gonna try again next year and hopefully have more time…

I'm currently in a holding pattern, waiting for my insurance to give my doc the approval to do my lap band surgery. I started this leg of my journey in April an so far (knock on wood) it's gone fine. I've had my pre-surgery clearance from my internist and my blood work is complete. Now if Cigna will just move their coolies I can get myself scheduled. This is my 2nd procedure. I had my first band done 3 years ago. It was in for 3 weeks and then removed. No physical complications, just mental problems with accepting the band, poor doctor support and general overall bad experience. In a much better state of mind this go around. New doctor, much more down to earth. Not …

I am considering the lap band surgery. I have done my cosult w/my dr. I have had my psych eval. All I need now is my letter of recommendation from my PCP, and my eval w/a nutritionist. If everything goes well I will have my letter of recom tomorrow (please oh please) Most people think I do NOT need this surgery as I hear "Oh please you are not that big, you can do it on your own" Well these people do not know all of my health situation. Im 34 and already on diabetic meds, told I have high cholesterol but was given no meds to help control it. My father (may he RIP) died at 47 from a full blown heart attack, he also had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol.…

They say money can't buy happiness but I've never been happier! I had the gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico with Dr. Ariel Ortiz on August 12, 2013. I've been fortunate that I haven't had any complications. I've lost 80 lbs. I'm not at the goal weight they set for me, 153. I'm actually 162 lbs at 5'8. When I get much below that I hear comments that I'm looking too thin, etc. Im happy with being in a size 8. I just need to tone up! Exercise has not been a strength for me. The past few months I've really had to remind myself that the sleeve is a tool to losing the weight but that I have to work at making healthy choices and making this a lifestyle change. I …

I am 3 months and 6 days post op. and it has been a melting pot of mixed emotions. At 27, being 5'4" and weighing 357 pounds, I knew I had to do something bad. However, my breaking point came when I realized that my heart started palpitating when I laid down. This was scary because I had a DVT and PE 4 years prior and the palpitation was one of the signs and effects. I started researching gastric sleeve after attending a seminar and decided on Medical Tourism using Belite Weight and Dr. Rodriguez in Mexico. Belte service was great up to the point of after the surgery. They generally answered emails right away and answered questions thoroughly. Their pick up se…

Friday 8/22 was my official 18 month surgiversary. I still cannot believe it's been that long already! Feels like just yesterday I had the procedure. I was sleeved February 22, 2013. My starting weight was 318 and I was wearing a size 24 and 3X. I can proudly say I now weigh 148 lbs and fit into size 6/8 and am wearing all smalls! What a journey it has been! I have worked extremely hard to come this far and I would do it over and over again. I strongly believe in exercise!! I dedicate myself to the gym at least 3 times a week! My BMI went from 52 to now 23.5. I am now, hopefully, anticipating my abdominoplasty surgery in the next month or 2!

Well I had my VSG done yesterday August 25. Feeling pretty good yesterday and most of today, in the last couple of I have developed some gas pains in my lower a domen. I have been advanced to full liquids. I don't have any nausea or vomiting. I feel really bloated like I have put on weight that I had lost prior to surgery. (60 pounds) I don't feel any different than I did before...just not hungry. I was pretty much out of it yesterday. Delayed effects of anthesia.

Had my gastric sleeve on 8/25, as well as a repair of a Paraesophageal Hernia (Hiatal Hernia). Was discharged today, 8/26. Was having pain related to the hernia repair in the hospital, but now that I am home, my abdomen is sore and painful. I know, this too shall pass. Having so much trouble drinking this large bottle of Isopure. It's neverending. It will get better. Just have to remember that. Hello to all.

So I just started puréed today and I still have had less than 600 cal all day but since I tolerated it so well I continued to have broth and small 2 oz snacks of tomato soup through the night. Something about it made me feel like old habits (constant eating even though tiny portions) also I didn't feel that FULL feeling when having liquids. ( i did with the purées) is this normal? Is this ok? Will I still lose weight? Tune in tomorrow Or just tell me this is all part of it tonight Thanks in advance.
