Family support....

Everyone in my family has been VERY supportive of my choice to have the gastric sleeve except my Mother. I've been talking about the surgery for the last 4 months and preparing for it. Today I was at my parents house and I printed off some diet info about the gastric sleeve. My mom asked me what I was reading and when I told her she acted all surprised and said "oh so you're going to do that surgery??" And then looked annoyed about it. Ummm I've been talking about this for 4 months. Why is she acting like she didn't know?? I guess she didn't think I was serious....

My mom doesn't support it at all!! But the heck with her! You have to do what you need to do to make your life healthy and make yourself happy! :) Good luck!

Good luck sometimes people handle things in their own way all you can focus on is ourself. Maybe once you have the surgery she could come around if she doesn't surround yourself with those that do support your choices!!!

It can be very hurtful, when the very ones we feel SHOULD be on our side is NOT! We have to still love them, but yet do what is best for us! I'm sure mom loves you dearly.....but EVERYONE will not always be happy for you, as you are for yourself. You have support on bariatric.pal!! Good luck! :)

My mom is the same way with me. My husband and father called her on it. She still has her moments that I want to hit her with a chair. But I have learned to ignore it. While I am bettering myself she still at times is holding her self back by acting the way she does. I say learn from what she does and use it as an example on how not to act. That's what I do.

But congrats on making the decision of getting the surgery.

Thanks for all of your responses. I'm happy about my decision and I feel at peace about. I'm doing this for ME, not her or anyone else. So I'm just gonna stay focused and stay positive. :)
