So I am just over 24 hrs out of surgery. I didn't expect to be in this much pain. I don't have a low pain tolerance either. I can happily say that I am not hungry! I have a great support system and know I am being loved and cared for

Recently I've joined the may who have opted to have gastric sleeve surgery. As I've said previously, at my heaviest, I weighed 525 lbs. I was getting married at this point to boot. I've since become divorced. Recently I've looked back at what went wrong and one of the bigger things on my end was my overall health. I don't bring this up often but I waited for marriage to have sex. When my wedding night came around, I was so large that I couldn't have sex wife my new wife. I can't tell you how devastating it was to be there with the person you love more then anyone and not be able to give yourself up completely to them. My weight although not the main reason was a contribut…

I definitely get impatient with the rate of my weight loss. I try to remember that I'm 59 years old and have been on synthroid since my thyroid was irradiated years ago (due to uncontrollable Graves Disease.) It has become clear that any white carbs cause me not only to stall, but to actually see a slight gain. However, the reason I chose to post as a success story is that I did the math today and in 2 months I am more than 1/3 of the way to my goal. Now that seems like something to crow about!

Hello! I've been dealing with being overweight for the last 13 or so years. The only time I was under 200lbs in the past 13 yrs is when I was sick and lost almost 120lbs. But that was 4 years ago. I have been on this Gastric Sleeve Surgery journey for about 2 months. I've completed all the things I was required by Humana PPO (Medicare). It wasn't as extensive as I thought it would be. Sooo, as of yesterday, I'm waiting for the results of my psy eval and then insurance approval, etc. I have no ideal how long this wait is going to be, but God knows I'm ready to get this stage over with. I want this surgery so bad. I've tried dieting and working out, phentermine, and nothi…

The surgery is planned for 9pm tonight! So got about another 6 hrs to wait, think that's the hardest keep thinking chin up it will be over with soon.

In my preop labwork my liver function was high. Ultrasound shows some fatty liver but also something else. I'm told a cyst, hemangioma or cancer. Now I'm getting an MRI next week to determine if I need a biopsy. I'm scared to death. Trying to stay positive but I don't even want to pursue my sleeve surgery until I know what's on my liver. I was supposed to get my surgery date this week I go in Thursday am and I don't know if I will keep my appointment. I was so sad this weekend thinking of everything. Now that it's happening this bump in the road....I'm a single mom who put off WLS because of the risks and scared of surgery complications.. My son deserves better. Fina…

I recently had my surgery on August 11th. The first 2 wks the weight basically flew right off. As if right now I am not losing any weight and I am becoming a little discouraged. I've read where it is possibly just a stall and I'm hoping that is all it is. I'm trying to be patient but I guess only time will tell!

Ok guys, I need advice. I had the sleeve on the 12th August, post op I lost about 2-3lb per day after 10 days the weight loss stopped and I've lost nothing for the last 8 days I've lost nothing absolutely zilch ! I guess I was perhaps a relatively low starting weight of 245lb, I'm male and 182cm, currently I'm 222lb, I'm walking / jogging for 30 mins in the morning before work and walking home from work every day (about 45 mins). I have kept a food diary and my average daily intake over the last 10 days has been : calories 650, Fat 16g, Carbs 44g, Protein 80g, drinking 2ltr of water a day, taking all vits etc. So pi$$ed off right now ! What am I doing wrong ! I'm trying s…

I Am new to this forum. I had gastric sleeve surgery on February 25th of this year. I feel that I have been successful so far. To date, I have lost 85!lbs and have 45 more to reach my goal. In addition to my new nutritional plan, I exercise on the elliptical for an hour 5-7 days a week. I have read a lot of the posts on here and find it so interesting to read about all of your journeys. Having this procedure saved my life, literally. There are weeks were I "stall" too, but then I start losing again. I am looking forward to read more on your journeys.

I've been reading the blogs and I keep running across hair loss, sagging skin, dumping. Is there a silver lining in the dark cloud of rny. I have my surgery September 30. Is there anything I can do now to prevent some of this? The good thing (I guess) is that once I gained my weight I never lost it so maybe my skin will not sag.

Hey everyone! First off, I wanted to congratulate you all (and myself) for taking such a huge step. I just had my surgery on August 22, 2014 and I'm starting to feel better. On the day of my surgery, I was mostly sedated but I felt pretty horrible. The second and third day were probably the worst, due to the immense amount of gas I had stuck in my abdomen and shoulder... I began taking Gas-X strips on the third day and it helped. I find that walking around and resting on a recliner help me feel most comfortable. The only thing I'm struggling with now is my difficulty sleeping (I no longer want to take narcotics) and I'm having headaches along with the lingering gas issues…

Hi friends!! I am excited to be down 39 pounds since May 15th. I just went in for a small fill and am finally in the green zone. It took over 3 months and 6 fills to finally find this sweet spot. Along the way I have doubted myself thinking I have been eating too much but with the weight loss I can not deny that I am doing the right things. It is hard to get in enough protein which I need to start making a better effort at. It feels so good to stay satisfied 4 hours after I eat. This is what it is all about!!! I am exercising by walking. Today I walked 50 minutesj even though we have record heat and humidity. I am proud of myself. I am also dating a little. It is scary a…

Hi all, my name is Darlyn and I am 59 years old. I've been battling my weight since 3rd grade. By 8th grade I weighed 175 lbs @ 5'4". Got thin once in my late teens but only for a year or two. Weight Watchers was always my go to because it allowed dessert, cocktails, etc., but I gave up dieting years ago after I had back surgery. I was in an accident at work (I drove a school bus) and I now have constant pain and sciatica. I am also diabetic and was very depressed.. Last Christmas I had to park quite far from the stores and found I needed to borrow a wheelchair to get back to my car after 2 hours of shopping. I then decided that I needed to get my act together before I go…

Being only 19 years old and a month post op, I realize that there are a lot of things that I will not be able to do anymore. Take shots on my 21st birthday, drink soda, enjoy a drink with my dinner, and others. Some of my friends that know were worried for me before the surgery because of these factors. And yes these are things I will not be able to do, but everything comes with a price. In my case, all the things that I gain from this surgery completely outweigh those that I am unable to do. I now can have more confidence in myself, have a smaller chance of developing heart problems, have a smaller chance of developing diabetes, be truly healthy for the first time sinc…

Had my surgery on 6-16-14...As of today, I am officially down 49 lbs!!! I'll take that!!! I was afraid I was gaining because I've been umm let's say "modifying" my diet plan AND I'm not exercising as much as I should. I've been stuck at 223/224 for the past 3 weeks...However, I got on the scale this morning (normal weighing-in day) and I was down to 219.6!! I am officially out of the 20's!! YAY ME!!!!

Hello everyone! I am almost 5 months post op! I'm down 44lbs but I have had a lot of problems! I went the first 3 month thinking I was getting fills but found out my port flipped.. So I had surgery to have it put back in place. Then I went back in to get a fill and he couldn't find my port. So I had to wait 2 more weeks and go in again under x-Ray! He finally found it and put 1cc in it.. I just got that done yesterday and I'm praying it gives me some restriction! Anyone else have these problems? Am I doing good on my weight for having all this?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I had a port revision a little over a month ago. I went in to get a fill and my doctor poked and prodded and couldn't find it. ???? It hurt really bad! I've had problems with him finding it from day one! Well when he did the port revision he removed a little fat to get to it easier. Well like I said above he couldn't find it. So I have to go back the 2nd to do it under x-Ray. I hope nothing happened in there! Has anyone else had this problem?

I know this is strange..... Do you ever look in the mirror and think that I've lost weight here but not there? I guess I was thinking the weight would come off equally in all places. For example, I can REALLY see a difference in my neck/shoulders/upper arms, but my lower arms are still chunky. I am not complaining. I just think it's interesting and wondered if anyone else thought this.

I had my surgery yesterday afternoon and thank God my recovery is going well. I took the advice that I saw posted here and started walking as soon as I could yesterday afternoon. I made myself walk every hour till bed and got up at seven and started again. I am a little sore, still gassy, but I am off all pain relief right now even Tylenol. I am so excited for the journey... I did get on the scale and was five pounds up from yesterday, but that's all the liquids they pumped me with. My liquids are going down comfortably. I can feel the Lap-band inside me which is a weird feeling, but I am sure I will adapt. The only time I feel pain from the incisions is when I g…

Well, I am 10 days until surgery....however that 10 days until VSG surgery, and I don't think I can do it. I waivered back and forth between the band and VSG or almost a year, finally decided on the sleeve, but now I think (I'm pretty sure) I've made the wrong decision. What do I do? Has this happened to anyone? I'm assuming I can call my clinic on Tuesday and tell them I've had a change of heart. But I'm assuming it will need to be resubmitted to my insurance as well.....I just think the sleeve is to drastic. I don't know....maybe I'm just a nut case! I met with the surgeon on Thursday last week and after she explained it all to me (of course I've read, watched videos,…

July the 9th of 2014 I was on a plane to San Diego with all the concerns anyone could possibly have. I was nervous but determined. I had looked into this for 3 years at least and finally made my decision. I decided to go to Dr. Ramos Kelly. He had the most experience of anyone I looked at. Let me go back a few years. Even though I'm overweight, severely depressed and HB pressure my own denied me to have surgery. Without insurance in the states just for the surgeon was over 12k that isn't including hospital or any other test. Out of desperation I chose to go to Mexico. Turns out that was the best choice for me. I'm almost two months out and 30lbs down. I'm doing m…

I am a newbie, but I have been reading the blog since May. My journey started 5 years ago, and after going to several seminars, switching insurances , and finally finding the Bariatric Center I liked I am scheduled for surgery on November 4th of this year. I felt that after 4 months of reading everybody else's story that it was time for me to come out of the shadows and be a fully committed member. I live in Southern New Jersey, and I am having my surgery at Cooper Hospital with Dr. BBrendan McConnell.

Just had surgery on the 28th. Everything went well with the surgery. The surgeon did say he had to put a stitch in my muscle where he took out one of the laparoscopes because it was bleeding more than he wanted it too. Man, the pain in that one area is pretty bad. My other sites seem good and relatively pain free. I'm having some back pain too. All of this normal? I'm having to take hydrocodone every 4 hours to deal with the pain in that one site and the only comfortable position is lying down at this point.

Hello everyone. I think I know how to post now, and I think Im in the right place. I am in the process of losing my pre surgery 10%. Ive completed my long check list and done a lot of reading on the subject. Now I see the doctor on Thurs. And find out about my insurance, whether its been accepted. My doctor is Scott Watson in Johnson City, TN. Feedback would be great. I just hope it will be by the end of the year. That would be great. I just wonder if he will schedule the surgery with 4 to 5 lbs. to go. Anyway, send me good thoughts. Thanks. Debbie
