  1. Started by JoJoNYC,

After 57 years on this earth watching my weight go up, down, sideways and all around. Yesterday, I registered to have lap band surgery! I reached the bottom line. All the fad diets, all the no carb diets, pills, HCG injections every Weightloss scam is put to rest and I have finally took charge of "MY" life. I am in the early stages of my journey. Wish me luck and I will check in from time to time with my progress! Have a great day!

Honestly, i've never been so scared or stressed in my life. Back in 2013 I had started planning my gastric sleeve surgery just to find out I was 7 weeks pregnant. My monthly friend has always been irregular and well since I thought that weighing in at 293 I was too "big" to get pregnant, I hadnt really ever payed attention to my cycles. Having my daughter put my plans on hold for a while, now that she's 8 months old, I am on my 2'd required month out of 3, and am currently on day 36 of my usual 28 day cycle.. This can not be happening AGAIN! Like come on, IDK if it's all just because of stress or not but my all my tests and sonos have come back negative. I really want thi…

Hi, My name is Chris, I am 50 years old and had VSG on January 20th, 2014, in LaCrosse, WI. at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital. My surgeon was Dr. Grover and my starting weight was 322# on December 7th 2012, my weight the day of surgery was 295#, as of today, September 14th, 2014, I am down to 217.6#. My reason for surgery was that I was going to be turning 50 years old and was definately not in the best shape and needed to change my life so I could be around for my husband, children and someday grandchildren. The last 8 years truly have tested my faith and wonder for life. I have lost my parents, 2 siblings, but the worst was the loss of my oldest daughter, 2 days before Chr…

My best friend asked me to look into Gastric bypass surgery for 3 reasons 1: he is my brother and loves me 2: i was turning 50 in September 3: lets face i was not getting any thinner. After my research i determined that this was the tool i had been missing. i further checked on insurance and company policy on medical leave.all came back very positive. My name is Amanda and I am 26. It's all moved rather quickly. However the most beneficial has been the pre op class and psychologist visits. My biggest hurdle is myself. I really gave up on myself when I hit 300lbs. It made me feel like a failure. My weight and inability to conquer it frustrates me very much. I'm quite the perfectionist and have trouble not beating myself up or recognizing small successes. So after my last visit with the psychologist, I bought stickers and behavior charts to chart my progress. I made small goals like "start chewing food 30x," "stop drinking 30 min before meals" etc. In order to establish better habits before surgery. They are small and …

I've pretty much struggled with my weight since childhood. It took me two years to decide on having the surgery but my employer pays for it, I thought it would be crazy not to have it. I have a psych evaluation tomorrow and I believe they call it an EDG on September 15th. After that I should get a surgery date. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I know this will save my life.

  7. I've been offline for a week, and a lot happened. I had my final weighin with the nutritionist, and i lost another 5 lbs, bringing me to a total of 10.5 since my first visit. she praised me, and i asked if i would be submitted to insurance now. she started to blather on about maybes and perhapses (the team wanted me to lose 14 total). i was more prepared mentally than i was on my last visit, when she made me feel very bad and kind of like i was in danger of not being approved. (i called my insurance company and found out that they only require NO NET GAIN, so i wasn't taking that from her this time.) i firmly but calmly stated that I knew the insurance company did …

and all went very well! With the exception of MAJOR gas pains across my ribs, I'm not having any other pain, and those are almost completely gone. I'm still on Clear liquids and let me tell you, 64oz ounces has been impossible. Yesterday I got in about half that amount and I'm hoping to do a little better with it today...sipping on diluted lite grape juice and I write. My last meal was Sunday night around 7pm and I am still not hungry in the least. I am allowed to try 4ozs of a Protein shake tonight, then slowing add up to 4ozs three times a day. Monday at noon I got sleeved, I was shocked at how much pain I was in when I woke up. The surgeon described it as a few days of being uncomfortable but this was torture. The pain stayed at a 10 for a long time on day three it settled to a five and now I am home and the pain is mostly an annoyance. I'm having trouble getting all my water down, hopefully I won't regret this surgery. I look forward to reading your posts for motivation and support.

Hi all, I'm Angela. I'm 4 weeks post-op. I had my sleeve on 9/3/14. Lately I have notice that I am irritable, moody and somewhat depressed. Not suicidal depressed but feel down, easily overwhelmed, and have a short fuse. I am very aware that I used food to "feel better" and I am grieving the loss but I think it's more. It is my understanding - that when you eat your stomach releases serotonin (happy feelings). And, when you have most of your stomach removed that the serotonin decreases. Thus, making post-op patients more susceptible to depression. Anyone have knowledge, data, etc with this? What has helped?

  17. Hello everyone. I've struggled with weight almost my entire life. Now, I'm only 19 as of April, but growing up and living in today's society is a struggle. Luckily I was hardly ever bullied on growing up in school. They had the "decency" to laugh behind my back. I'm a social butterfly whenever it comes to people. Growing up I had a lot of friends, and to this day I only speak to TWO of the ten friends I used to have and hang out with. I'm glad that they are still with me and have encouraged me through everything. Whenever I was a Junior(2011), near the end of my last semester I had decided for the first time about having Bariatric surgery. At the time I was at 416 pou…

I need to post this because not many ppl can really understand the excitement of this! I actually wondered if it would ever happen for me or if I was meant to always weigh over 200. This week has been so good for me hitting goals. On Sunday, I went to Old Navy and was able to put on a size 12 (curvy fit but still) pair of skinny jeans. I couldn't even shop at Old Navy before. I was a size 24/26. My highest weight was 288. And now today I am 199 (barely but it counts!!) I am so thrilled and thankful that I did this!

I had my six month check up today and I am down 26 pounds total. I know I shouldn't compare my story to anyone else but I just feel like 26 pounds is so low. The nurse says everything is ok. I have a lot to be proud of - 26 pounds of fat gone is a great start and I feel much better than I did six months ago. I see others losing at a much faster rate than me and I am trying to remain positive. Is anyone else losing the weight this slowly?

I got a call from the psychologist today and he needs to meet with me to discuss an er visit I had. First available appointment isn't until October 1st. Told him I had an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow and he said that would be ok. But the surgeon's office called this afternoon and cancelled my appointment until I meet with the psychologist. Hopefully this is only a bump in the road and will be able to go forward with the gastric bypass surgery soon.

I was never a target of bullying but little comments, even comments that were well meaning, over time made me feel like because of my weight I wasn't good enough to be happy or confident. As I grew older, even when I was very confident in other parts of my life, there was still always the voice in the back of my head telling me I wasn't good enough because I was overweight. I had my Lap Band surgery in March of 2011. At that time I weighed 283 pounds at 5'8'. The surgery went fantastically well, however, I had a hard time following the program so it took a year and ten fills to lose 30 pounds. I could never understand what the "sweet spot" was and how it was supposed to work. Then in October of 2012 I had a fill that was a little too much and I was sick to my stomach constantly for two days until I had some of the fill removed. At that time, I just gave up because I read about all of the success stories and I never really felt the Lap Band made much of a difference and I certainly wasn't losing weight like so many others were doing. …

Since I couldn't play sports I became really good at video games and school work. At 12 I had to have a tonsillectomy, during surgery they could not lower my blood pressure. I had my surgery on September 24th with Dr Baranov at Saratoga Hospital. I've been home now for 2days and feeling great. My recovery has been easy, not too much pain and just getting to know the limits of my new pouch. I'm drinking/sipping water, taking in 1-2oz of protein shake 3 times a day and walking at least 30 minutes 2 times per day. I feel fantastic and can't wait for more days to come. My husband, my son and my parents have been a big part of this journey and I think because of their support I'm doing so well.
