Hello all, my name is Elizabeth. I was banded the morning of 10/2/14 and am now 5 days out. I went back to work today as an RN doing home health, all went pretty well but I am still sore. I feel like the port was placed right in the bottom of my upper fat roll and I get pressure pushing on it when I sit and sometimes a burning sensations. Has anyone else had this after surgery? The other incisions look and feel fine. I am still having a lot of pressure and gas pain that makes me feel like I can't take a deep breath and sometimes radiates to my left shoulder. Hoping that goes away soon. Any tips or pointers would be greatly welcomed. I feel like with all the swelling and b…

So I'm looking for stories from lower BMI patients about their weight loss after surgery. Those people who like me have less weight to lose before hitting goal. Let's say 100 lbs and less. Do we hit a higher % of excess weight? Does it come off faster? Anything that you'd like to share about your journey ......

Hello, I got the gasteric sleeve on July 23rd. Initially I lost 8 pounds with my preop then another 19 the first two weeks of surgery. When I started soft foods my weight loss immediately stopped. Now 4 weeks out I have lost a total of 27 pounds. I'm feeling a little discouraged because for the last 2 1/2 weeks I haven't lost anything at all. I hear of some people loosing 40 the first month. I'm 23 hw 298 sw 291 cw 270 any suggestions would help. How much cardio should I be doing. Also I am able to eat anything including rice and bread. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong

hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this site but I hope to be able to learn some things and make positive connection here. I am on day two of being off of pureed foods and my wounds are healing well. I am being super neglectful of everything I choose to eat because I don't want any post surgical issues. I'm excited to have lost 18.5 lbs. And look forward to getting to my goal weight! Jazer

I guess this is where we say hello and give our history, so here it goes... I have dealt with a great deal of pain for over 10 years now (without medications), and went through a ridiculous amount of test, thinking I had MS. Thank heavens it wasn't, but it was severe Psoriatic Arthritis, PCOS. Still in a great deal of pain from PA; I tried (for a long time) to lose weight. It started off great and slowly drove me to the ground with insanity from the lack of realistic results. I finally (after lots of deep thinking) decided it was time to take extreme measures. I'm going whole hog for the RNY bypass. I'm scared to death. Not so much of the surgery, but of whether or …

I was supposed to get the RNY done on September 29th 2014 everyth I ng was fine until I woke up from surgery. When I woke up from surgery I was informed they could not do the Rny because they found out I have a rare liver disease called sarcoidosis there is no cure for it either. But if I was to have the Rny I could not do the treatment so they called in a specialist while I was still under and the surgen and the specialist decided to give me the sleeve so I can still have treatment. I am now almost a month post op and feeling great so far except I can't stomach the protein shakes.

Surgery is about 3 weeks out. I have to do the liver reduction pre op diet and I know about the post op diet stages. Of course all WLS materials tell you " no alcohol " even later on. I know there's calories but at this stage of my life I really enjoy a glass or 2 of red wine on the weekend nights. Is this gonna be a problem long term?

I started my journey on 2/12/14. After completing all my BCBS requirements on 9/25/14, I was officially approved on 10/14/14. Today 10/20, I met with my surgeon, tomorrow is my ultrasound and nutritionist appointment. On 10/27, I start my pre-op liquid diet and 10/28, I have my pre-op physical. My surgery is November 6th at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park, MN. I am truly astonished at how smoothly this process has been managed. I surely hope my surgery and follow care goes the same. Amazed, excited and a bit nervous!

Well tomorrow is the day that my journey will start. I am beginning my pre op diet with my surgery scheduled for Oct 27th. Originally scheduled for Nov 3rd but the doc had to move a bunch of us around and I was one of the ones that got moved. YIKES!! I started this whole thing back in Jan 2014 with a trip to my general surgeons office to see about getting my ventral hernia taken care of. After talking with her in great length she suggested the vertical sleeve for me. She said since I seem to be able to loose the weight but not keep it off for long periods of time that this might be an option for me. She wanted some of my weight off before she operates on the ventr…

The insurance company submitted my paperwork and two weeks later I am approved! I am so excited but finally the nerves set in. I have been halfway through this process before only to quit for one reason or another. I finally had enough and pushed through the months of testing and craziness. I have never even been close to my ideal weight for my height. I can't even imagine it. I am so nervous for surgery. The biggest surgery I've ever had was getting my tonsils removed. I think what's worse is knowing that my family members are very nervous about it. I think for the first time in my life I am doing something that I want without letting anyone talk me out of it. I know it …

Hi everyone....I'm back....some of you might remember that I wrote a blog every Sunday that followed my weight loss journey for the first year.....like all of you, it was a huge year of transition for me. But even I couldn't imagine how vibrant and incredible and amazing my life would be 3 years later and it would never have happened without WLS. I have created a dream life that works for me (trust me, it would not work for 90% of the readers here in my opinion). But I have decided to start writing my blog again in hopes of inspiring people to have the courage to create and design their own dream life. So if you are new to the forum and want to read what it was li…

Hello everyone, I am in the beginning stages of my journey and am really struggling to stay on track with the Pre surgery weight loss, I was told that if I don't loose 12lbs or close to it I wouldn't be able to meet with the surgeon or get a surgery date..my insurance company does not require any pre weight loss it's the drs which I completely understand.. It just stinks because I know how good I'm going to be after the surgery!!! I'm struggling because I know I've dieted before and nothing has worked for me and I've been trying since I was 14 I'm 27 now, i do the typical lose 30lbs gain 60 back!! I thought this would be easier since I know how bad I want the surgery b…

Hi Guys! I hope that you are all well. And congrats to all my fellow bandits. Well done to us for choosing to sacrifice our love for food for her long term health. My name is Den, and I wanted to share my experience with you all. Well, after months of waiting, I finally had my Lap Band/Plication done at Sydney Adventist in Wahroonga. One minute I am in the theatre breathing into a mask, and the next I am sick as a dog post surgery, thinking "what have I done?" The first couple of days were awful; nausea and vomiting and just feeling icky. I was surprised that I was ravenously hungry by the second evening, so much so that I couldn't sleep at 4am I was so hungry and…

I called my surgeons office last week Friday, told still pending. Called my insurance on Tuesday, left msg w/nursing certification team. They called me back yesterday, said it was APPROVED as of Oct 14. Yay! So I finally get a phn call from surgeons office and she again tells me, "well it's still in pending phase, give it a few more days." So I sure did stop her and inform her of the news she wasn't aware of. Shldnt they be on top of all of this?? I had to tell her to call insurance and get back to me, and she hasn't yet!! I can't be the patient and the surgeons office to make all these calls that she is suppose to be on top of.

I can't finish a protein shake in a day and drink fluids. Premier shakes taste good and have 30 grams of protien in one bottle. I just have not been able to get a full bottle down in twenty four hours. I also tried to walk a bit on day two and started leaking from surgical site so I went to ER and been in bed since. Should I be moving around now?

Hi everyone, Just wanted to check in and post my 2 month progress. It's been a long journey so far but it's also been exciting! When I first checked into the hospital, I joked with my husband that I was going to run for it, IV pole, hospital gown, and all. I was seriously scared to death. But, I went through with it and woke up in a tremendous amount of pain. I felt like I'd done a 1,000 sit ups. 30 minutes later, they had it under control and I was on my way. I was kept 2 nights due to acid but finally released. Wound up hospitalized at 3 weeks for dehydration. However, that was the most serious complication. Today is my 2 month sleeve-versity. I'm 46 pounds lighte…

So I went to my visit yesterday with my wife to get my band scheduled. At 5 ft 7 and 240lbs my main reason for WLS is ridding myself of diabetes. After a long conversation with my surgeon I have decided on a new procedure . The sleeve gastrectomy with single Anastomosis duodenoileal bypass. By bypassing the pancreas it results in diabetes resolution. It's been done in Spain for several years and recently in the US but data is limited. Any info from others is appreciated. BC/BS doesn't consider it experimental. It's approved . I'm actually going to be in a study my surgeon and six others in the US. mostly to gather long term data as the isn't any. Anyone have any knowledg…

Today I went to the doc for my two week post op appointment. Everyone was pleased with my progress and how well I'm doing. The dietitian was surprised at the amount of Protein I am getting, thanks to Premier Protein shakes. I also got my drain out after having it for two weeks. It gave me a bit of pain after it was taken out. I'm do I g better now. I got to eat some mashed potatoes and a small piece of canned chicken. It tasted so good and didn't bother my stomach. I do feel great and I'm glad I got my surgery.

Hello there! I am still in a bit of shock, but my insurance (Aetna) has approved my band-to-bypass surgery, and I am on cloud nine! There is a whole lot to my back story, but short story is, I had band 7 years ago, miserable most of those 7 years with very little success, and here I am gearing up for a whole new life! Insurance approved in less than a week! My PCP put together a lengthy, comprehensive history of my attempts at health and weight loss over the last 10 years, and I'm pretty sure that is the reason I was approved so quickly. I have no hoops to jump through, just routine blood work, EKG, a nutrition counseling session with the dietician, and an ultrasoun…

Today I saw the psychiatrist and also had my final appointment with my doctor. Got all of the paperwork together and added the medical clearance letter. Afterwards, I dropped the paperwork off at the surgeon's office. Now all there is to do is wait. The surgeon's office will call me in a couple of days to schedule the consultation. I sure wish I could have made that appointment today. I am more than ready to do this! Hopefully, I will be able to get in for the consultation by next week. Crossing fingers (cuz I can't cross my darn legs)!

I was sleeved nine days ago. Today I volunteered for bake sale at my children's school to benefit breast cancer awareness. There were all different types of cakes, cupcakes, Cookies and pastries. I am so shocked and amazed that I did not taste of anything. And I was not even tempted. I had absolutely no desire to eat that junk. I sipped on my Water while serving hundreds of kids cupcakes. For me this is definitely a victory this would've been a major challenge prior to surgery. Actually it would not have been a challenge I would've just ate everything in sight .....LOL. I can't believe that I could look at a cookie, smile and say no thank you. This surg…

Ad my surgery on June 26th. On June 28th I was rushed back to hospital and ended up having a twisted bowel. That turned into leaks and 7 surgeries later spent 1 week in ICU. I'm the 1% this happens to. I spent a month in the hospital. Have an appt with my dr tomorrow to hopefully get my 30+ staples out ( they gut me like a fish) and hopefully he will take out my feeding tube. I never thought this would happen. I know I will be happy eventually but my days are pretty depressing. Not saying don't get the surgery, just venting and letting y'all know what can really happen. I almost died for this

It took me one long year to go from wanting a Gastric sleeve to getting one. There were many reasons that I wanted one . The two main reasons were, I was so sick of feeling and being fat and not being able to move well and take care of myself as well as I wanted and a fear of getting fatter as I got older. The second reason and more important reason is my fifteen year old son who is Autistic and will need my support his entire life. I was and am afraid of leaving him too early. After some initial resistance to diet ,I changed my diet and lost thirty pounds before surgery and lost thirty more after surgery and am about half way to my goal already. Surgery went well.…

It occurred to me that not many people who have no problems really tell their story and that people doing their research may need to hear some success stories. I am a lurker, I read some of the posts on some of the threads some of the time! In May 2013 I weighed my heaviest ever at 234lbs. I have spent my life and a small fortune going to various diet groups, mainly weight watchers, but also others that provide food etc. I have also done every diet imaginable. I cannot remember ever feeling thin, I remember my first "diet" at about 7 years of age. My parents were fat and are both now dead from Type 2 diabetes related illnesses, I could see the writing on the wall. …

Had the sleeve done a year and half ago and manage to loose exactly the amount I needed to loose to be healthy and get off all the pills! I also discovered that it doesn't just stop there especially if you enjoy a drink and an occasional nosh... I joined a gym and focused on cardio naturally the treadmill☺ after about a year of on and off not loving the gym but forcing myself to go I hired a trainer to weight train and asked to try boxing????. My new found love with amazing cardio workout. Boxing keeps me not only in shape but also a fit body and I love working out now. Find what you like and if you haven't tried it you'll never know.
