  1. I have waited nine long months and was finally approved for RNY !!! So excited and I have my pre-ops on Friday. Just wondering how long it takes to have a surgery date? I will be having surgery in indianapolis at st. Vincent's!

  2. Started by jessiquoi,

i wish i could say i'm excited, but i'm just disappointed that it's not for another three weeks when just three weeks ago they told me probably 10/21 or 10/28. well, i'm also in the middle of a horrific insulin attack (low blood sugar) and dealing with multiple production problems at work, so it ain't the best day. yay

I started my journey in June 2014. 90 days of medically supervised weight loss. about a month of waiting for approval. 3.5 weeks of liquid diet. and one surgery date FINALLY scheduled. I had a super hard afternoon on Tuesday. I'm so worried that I am some how going to mess this up that I was teary all afternoon. Being heavy most of my teen and adult life...I feel like I am really good at failing at diets and plans and systems for weight loss. I know in my head that Lap Band can help me...I just need to do the work. I have a very supportive husband and family. But I am the hardest on myself (for most things). I figured I would start here with you guys …

  4. This is something I've pondered over and over. I've been in so many conversations where people have said things like: "She's getting fat" "I'm so fat" "My son and nephew brought home two girls and I was just hoping my son wasn't dating the fat girl" "Don't eat that or you'll get fat" I'm not saying I like being fat. But it certainly isn't the worse thing about me.

Normally I'm falling asleep by 8-9 pm, yep early to bed and early riser. Not that I like it that way, just seems to be how it is. What are all the Oct 27 sleevers doing now?

Hi My name is Helene and I am scheduled to have gastric bypass surgery in Oct. 13,2014. In the past j have tried to get lap band but was not allowed due to my nutcracker esophagus. I couldn't not have the sleeve either due to the same reason. I've had to think long and hard in order to come to this point. I'm to be starting the liquid diet in Sept. 29,2014. I'm hoping it won't be as daunting and my mind is telling me it will be. I wonder if I should stop dating while I am on this weightloss journey. I went on a date last night with this nice guy who is looking for a BBW. I am thinking that next year this time I may not have this body type and that's when a…

My question is, what is my next step? I am looking into going to Mexico and getting this done since I will be self paying, but I don't know how or what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Seems that's my limit these days. I'm nervous about the whole process and the surgery itself. It doesn't help when I tell people close to me that I'm going to get the surgery (going with the sleeve) and they always say..."well can't you just eat better and exercise more?" And of course the horror stories about how they know someone who knew someone that died from gastric surgery. I know in my heart that I want this because I'm tired of being the guy who can't do this or that because my back hurts after walki…

I'm new to BariatricPal and it seems like a good outlet for the emotions I am feeling right now. It's nice to read all these posts by people who have survived all the different phases of this process. I decided to begin the sleeve process in December of 2013. I have been overweight my entire life and when I say entire, I mean since I was 2. I am now 28 and at my highest I have weighed almost 500 lbs. Crazy right! I, like others, have tried multiple diets and managed to lose some weight but always gained it back. I decided on surgical weight loss because I need a more permanent solution. I soon found out that it is a waiting game with insurance where I had 7 monthly docto…

Today I am 25 days post op! Yes! I have most certainly struggled the first 2 weeks and today I think I made ground breaking progress for the first time in my life!!!! My body image and looks have always been a concern my entire life. I was pushed into modelling as a child and then came all the food issues and insecurities. It wasn't until I had paid modelling jobs that my weight became an issue. I was never fat but athletic and it wasn't until the company I was doing catalog work for as a child stopped calling me back for more work. My mother told me that it must have been because I looked fat in the last catalogue and if I would stop eating junk food I wouldn't have bee…

I read so many posts and blogs about Weightloss surgery before I had my own(09/30/14). Reading these post scared the HELL out of me. First the dreaded pain, sagging skin, hair loss,&this or that made me run for the hills. I'm here to tell those who will come after me, after my surgery I asked my dr why didn't he do my surgery? He laughed and said you had the surgery. The next day I had a pain level of 6 and that was my worst. I walked the same day if my surgery. I was able to eat my broths on the third day and now it's my fourth day I ate almost a whole can of cream of chicken broth. I have no pain and although I haven't lost weight (I don't think) I am one to say th…

  32. Started by yungshi,

So I've been creeping on this website since around May, just reading posts and comments. But now, that I've gotten approved, I decided it was time for me to share my journey! Ok, so I'm only 19, from the New Orleans area, and my surgeon is none other than Dr. Lavin. I started this journey in June. I have aetna so I had to go through the 3 month supervised visits with the NP & NUT. Let me just say, Dr. Lavin's staff is AMAZING! Makes you feel completely comfortable. Anyways, I was worried I wasn't going to get approved because in August, I gained 2.4 pounds and aetna usually denies you if you have a gain. But on my last checkup I had lost 6 pounds, so that was goo…

I will be changing for the better. Because who I am now is not who I want to be. And if i dont change right now, i will never be the person i see myself as. I want to be a happy teenage girl. That wont happen until I get this surgery. I am so over weight its depressing. im 16, im young, I want to be spending my teenage years having fun, getting out, and meeting new people. But as of right now im not doing that. i hide in my room, but sometimes i do go out with my friend but i want to do more memorable things with my life before i grow up. I don’t know if its because im not a confident person or because im so insecure about the way I look. I come off as a confident but I…

Prior to my sleeve surgery, I just about lived off carbs and especially sugar. Most likely one of the reasons I became so heavy. After surgery, I really am not fond of sugar much at all. I consider this a blessing! Prior to surgery, I drank Pure Protein chocolate shakes and loved them. It is a great way to get 30 grams of protein. Now I can barely stand the taste of them. I used to use Crystal Light as I hate Water and this helped a lot. Now, I can hardly stand the sickening sweet taste. Really hard for me to get all my water in. Thank God for sugar free popsicles! I just wonder if anyone else has experienced this? Good luck to you all!

I went down to 191 and stayed there for a while. I then move to a new job and I went up to 213 that is where I am. I had another baby in march of 2014 I didn't gain any weight with this pregnancy because I had a car accident and broke my ankle so I couldn't get up much to eat. My ankle never went back to normal and hurts while I exercise. I just haven't been able to losse what I want and I am really considering the gastric sleve. Friday 8/22 was my official 18 month surgiversary. I still cannot believe it's been that long already! Feels like just yesterday I had the procedure. I was sleeved February 22, 2013. My starting weight was 318 and I was wearing a size 24 and 3X. I can proudly say I now weigh 148 lbs and fit into size 6/8 and am wearing all smalls! What a journey it has been! I have worked extremely hard to come this far and I would do it over and over again. I strongly believe in exercise!! I dedicate myself to the gym at least 3 times a week! My BMI went from 52 to now 23.5. I am now, hopefully, anticipating my abdominoplasty surgery in the next month or 2!
