Hello All, I'm a newcomer to the blogs. I've been reading different ones for a couple of weeks now and have found them very encouraging and informative. I'm 51 yrs. old and have been struggling with my weight basically all my life. I would say I'm a curvy girl with a lot of "Junk in the trunk"! Lol! When I look at pictures from years past I see how small I was, but yet in still they continued to refer to me a "Fat". My Dr. has been very supportive of me in my life for the past 23yrs, but now due to many health problems he has "Strongly" suggested WLS. I must say he has also been patient, with my weight loss journey, but enough is enough! We are in the process of get…

Hi Everyone, My name is Eli and I am 21 years old. I just wanted to share my amazing journey with everyone and hopefully help anyone that needs it. Since I was a young boy I struggled with weight loss. I put weight on and I took weight off and it didn't seem like I could ever get it right. Growing up, all of my friends were thin so they never understood what it was really like to be overweight, nobody actually understands unless they actually walk a mile in your shoes. I was miserable, depressed, and felt like there was nothing in the world that could help me. As a lineman for my high school football team I justified my extreme weight gain with the fact that I needed to…

Hi to Everyone! I'm one week post-op today, and came across these forums as I while away my recovery time at home. All in all, I think I'm doing pretty well- off of pain meds and out walking 2 miles a day since 3 days post-op. I have to keep reminding myself that I didn't get this heavy in a week...I'm certainly not going to lose it in a week! I've got my first post-op visit with my surgeon on Monday & am hoping like crazy that I can be moved forward to delicious pureed food. I'm pretty sure at this point if I cut myself I'd bleed chicken broth ;p I'm surprised at how well I'm not allowing the enormous bags of Halloween candy's incessant calls to me get under m…

My goal is to lose 38% of my total starting body weight. I state it that way because people (those who I've confided in) tell me "you don't need that surgery." Even my bariatric surgeon (who I think is great) looked at me as they were prepping me for surgery and said "no one would believe you are a bariatric patient." These statements bother me because this is not an easy decision for anyone who makes it. I am 4' 11". I have never been 5' and will never be. My BMI is 35.3. I am 57 yrs old. I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, have joint pains... I can go on. At my highest I weighed 175 lbs. My body knows I'm obes…

Hi, my name is Morgan and I'm looking into having the gastric sleeve surgery. I have my first consultation with a weight loss surgeon November 25. I'm absolutely at my wits end. I've done every diet I can think of, exercised like crazy, starved myself, you name it, I've done it. I'm a 32 year old female who at 5'8 weighs 358. :-( My blood pressure is high & I'm scared that I'm going to die young. I've had 2 miscarriages because of my weight. Can anyone offer me words of advice as I go through this process? I know this surgery is a tool, not a quick fix. I dream of taking up running when I'm at a more comfortable weight. I also do several workout dvds at home. I long …

Am beginning the process for the sleeve surgery. I thought my insurance would not pay but I am finding out that there might be a chance. I have a medical necessity and hopefully my insurance will make the surgery available for me. At every milstone I will post and keep data from beginning to end. I have submitted the paper work as of last week and recived clearance to make an appt with the Phych dept. My appt is Dec 15 2014. The appt person told me I would hear from them if there was a problem with my insurance. It has been three day and I have not heard any thing that would make me think my insurance has denied moving forward with the evaluation. I an excited and nervou…

I'm not sure if Tasha has sent out an email informing everyone that she has placed the pen pal program in my care. With so many things going on in her life, she felt it was essential that she allow someone else to continue the program. Tasha has forwarded me the pen pal email list and I will be using that to send out emails. If you are interested in joining the program, please send me an email at penpalbuddy2014@gmail.com Please note all the information included in the rules. I look forward to continuing this process. Hi, I had my Gastic Sleeve 30/6/2011, was pregnant 6 weeks later and had a beautiful baby boy. Lost weight throughout, baby fine and both of us apparently healthy. In March 2013 I was done to 67kg, from 118kg and discovered I had Colan Cancer. Since then I have had surgery, Chemo and am now tumor free. There is a 15-20% chance of it returning, and if it does then it will be terminal. But my old "friend" weight gain is back and biting me hard, I have gained a lot and am back up to 83kg, and NOT happy. That said my motivation is low, self loathing high. If only loathing = action! I know I am eating too many carbs, sugar craving is high. Salads are perfect co…

It's funny if you had told me a year ago that I would be 177lbs I would have said hell yes and been really happy with that, but now I am more determined than ever to get to my goal weight , so tired of being the "fat" one :-) I don't know what I am anymore that is a bit disconcerting it's like I have been the fat one my whole life now what am I? Anyway I had my eye in this dress it was so beautful and so expensive , so I wated and wated and wated and last weekend I finally brought it when it was on sale :-) I am now worried that my weight loss will mean I won't get to wear this dress for long lol

Hi, my name is Tammy and I live in South Tx, I have had a lap-band since 2007 but 2 months ago it slipped and due to my surgeon from 2007 no longer being on my insurance I had to seek out new surgeon, so after finally seeing him as a new pt and confirming the band slipped, I am preparing to have a revision, removing lap-band and having gastric bypass...I have completed the Cardiac clearance stress test, echo, PFT, psych eval and nutrition class on Wednesday and I have my appt for an EGD on Nov 14. When all the pre-op testing is complete I can hopefully set the surgery date. That's my story so far, I will update when I get more surgery info.

I have officially met my original goal of 142 pounds lost as of today, I started at 352 lbs and now weigh in at 210... Had my surgery last Dec 13 (On a Friday)... I know, Crazy.. But this decision saved my life and career, I am now going back to the hospital to start giving talks at new classes after first of next year. I was needing total knee replacements and have already had a spinal fusion so I was pretty desperate, Not to mention surviving a massive pulmonary embolism after the back surgery.. But I was so successful with the sleeve by following the directions verbatim, No arguing or rationlizing why I had to do what they said to do.. Once I got past the mental hurdl…

After tomorrow appointment, I will have just 2 more meets with my surgeons staff and surgery should take place in early January 2015. While I'm very excited about this, I do come upon some band horror stories. I keep telling myself that won't happen to me and I will get through the surgery fine. But it's always in the back of my mind. Wish me luck!

Well, today is my 56th birthday and it's the happiest one I've had in some time. There are 53 pounds less of me and I know that this time, they are never coming back. I had my surgery on July 28 th of this year and I'm only 3 months out, but I'm rocking my sleeve and the future is bright.. What a blessing to have this chance at a new relationship with food and to regain my health. Has it been easy, nope. Has it been worth it, more than I can say. Good luck to us all!

Three more hours I will be going back to into surgery. I'm hoping to wake up with getting through the procedure this time with no complications. It was truly disappointing and a set back for me the first time due to low heart rate. My whole focus was thrown off and depressing. I'm asking all buddies to please pray that this time around be successful.

So today is my 2 weeks....first off i would like to say the journey has been actually not too bad. I have only threw up a few times and that was as soon as i was discharged from the clinic...i was so darn thirsty...other than that been good. Have not had a fill yet. Does anyone experience hiccups? All the time? Seems like i drink water and get hiccups with a sort of ache in my gut. And how is everyone's weight loss? In two weeks prior to surgery to now i have lost 25lbs. Though i am not quite sure where. My pants aren't as tight. And my weight seems to fluctuate a pound or two from day to day...normal water weight? Well i hope a few of you can chime in i would love to hea…

I started my weight loss journey 2/2014. I weighed in at 345.8lbs my body weight index was right at cut-off point for the doctor to deny me for the surgery. But he had faith in me that I would lose the excess weight, and I did! I had my surgery 9/29/2014! I weighed in @ 325.6lbs and as of 10/25/2014 1 currently weigh 294.6...Because I was so use to over eating this process has been a lot of trial and error. I am still trying to learn how to chew food that long. I get stuffed so quickly that sometimes I feel like eating, is not worth the hassle. I have come to love and appreciate applesauce though. Most foods simply don't stay down and the foods that manages to pass thre…

I had my Roux en y on October 15th. My first weigh in was today and I'm down 25 lbs! We don't have a scale at home so I have been unable to weigh myself but that's how I wanted it. There are so few surprises in life anymore. Now that I've had this weigh in im off to get scales. So far things have gone pretty well. I had a drain for the first 10 days and having it removed was no picnic. I've not thrown up and don't plan on it if I can help it! Started out on this journey on May 26th at 387. On surgery date I was at 380 now I'm down to 355 as of today!

I'm at just over 10 weeks and nothing. I'm stuck at 38 lbs. increased my working out, and even my calories, as my nutritionist said I should (was barely getting in 600 before) I'm trying to get the liquid in...and have been snacking on raw veggies, to get everything "moving along..." Any other advice? This is normal from what I've read. I am such a "now" person, though, that every time I stall I get frustrated and lose faith!

I am never hungry. I do not have cravings. Eating bothers me greatly. I had RNY on 6/19/14, and have not wanted food since. This may sound like a blessing, but it makes getting my protein requirements near impossible. I have tried so many different things and nothing appeals to me. I truly have to force myself to eat. Any one experience this?

Hi everyone I had my surgery a week ago and already have about a million questions. I don't know anyone else, personally, that has had the surgery. I'm hoping someone who has had could help me out. I guess my biggest question is about the pain. I know everyone is different, but I'm surprised I'm still in as much pain. Any tips on how to help once the meds run out? Thanks!

For some reason, I was thinking Sept 29 is my 1 month, but it was actually Sept 26. Started going to the gym about two weeks ago...no lifting yet, just cardio. No problems so far with food intake and no pain anywhere. My pre- surgery weight Sept 24 was 237. As of today I am 197! So far it's been a smooth ride... Especially the weight loss! I think at week 3, I thought I was hitting the dreaded "stall", but was wrong! Knock on wood...please no stall soon! My wife and sons are now noticing that I'm getting smaller and smaller. Good luck everyone!

Lap band surgery. I have my first consultation tomorrow and I pretty much know what to expect as I have doing my own research into this. I am a 46 yr old woman who has had a child late in life at 38. I struggled with my weight a lot but never to the extent that it is now. I gained a lot of weight with the pregnancy and 6 months after my son was born I had my first back surgery. It really took a toll on my body and losing weight was practically impossible. Exercise was very difficult and the next year I had a second back surgery. I am hoping that this lap band surgery will start me on the path to freedom. Freedom from pain and freedom from this weight that is taking over m…
