Hi, So I finished my 3 month pre op. The dr office called me today and said that most likely my insurance will not cover the surgery since I had gained 17pds.. I am devastated!! I explained to them that I had been taking Phentermine for over 3 years and as soon as I stopped taking it I have gained like crazy!!! I feel like I have changed my eating habits.. At times I feel like I was starving yet I still gained??? I am frustrated at this point. I was suppose to have surgery next Friday September 26. But the lady at the doctors office said she is most positive that my insurance will deny it. Has anyone had this problem where they gained weight while at pre-op and what di…

Every time I eat just about anything, my stomach hurts. I am taking an antacid everyday, but it doesn't seem to help. In just a few days I am off of a restricted diet and could eat whatever, but that's not happening. Any advice?.

My surgery is Friday, September 26. I am really hoping to go back to work quickly. I do not do any heavy lifting so the doctor is leaving it up to my own comfort level. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I know to move after this kind of surgery so I'm hoping I won't have bloating and gas issues. Anyone?

These message boards are such a time suck, but in the most wonderful way ever. I recently found this group and love seeing how supportive and informative everyone is. I have my first appointment with my surgeon, nutritionist and psych next week (after waiting almost 2 months for an appointment!) and I'm so excited to get this show on the road! I would like to thank everyone for sharing their stories and offering their support because it's much more comforting knowing what is ahead. I like that I get to see the good and the bad and how everyone bands together to show support! So glad I found you all *group hug*

So last week when I called my insurance to check the status of my case that was still in review I found out that I got submitted for the Lap Band and not the sleeve. I changed my mind since the first dr appt in 9/13 and I thought that my final decision would be when I get approved and meet with the surgeon. So I didn't know they use the 1st set of notes from the first meet and submit for a specific surgery and not just for weight loss surgery overall. So the hospital called and tried to change the procedure but UHC said they need a new letter and notes. So I made a Oct 7th appointment to meet with Dr.Bagloo and talk and decide on the sleeve so they can open a new case. …

Well I'm new here been looking around for a week now. I went to my pre-op final appointment on Monday and was told to start the diet as soon as I can. Today is my wedding anniversary and I wanted to enjoy one last meal out so I will be starting the diet on tomorrow. It's mostly low carb and clean eating. I can get a 1000 calories a day. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday September 23rd after I return from Hawaii for my anniversary. I will be clean eating while on vacation but it will be worth it to have back my self confidence that I loss with the added pounds.

Hey all, I was sleeved on 9/4/14 with Dr. Dirk Rodriguez performing the surgery. My weight at the time of my surgery was 399 lbs and in the week that followed I lost 14 lbs. My journey to word my present situation began back in 2002 when I tore my acl. I had surgery to repair it and soon after I began gaining weight. I've tried diets and exercise but I couldn't keep the weight off. I heard about the sleeve from a co-worker and began looking into it. I then decided it was what I needed to help me change my life. The first week started out a little rough, but I kept working through it and it has gotten easier. The only thing I'm waiting on now is being able to take a normal…

Hi all... I'm 10 days away from VSG. I've waited over 4 years for this. I considered it for a long time before pursuing it. At 31 I decided I was tired of feeling like an old lady and worrying more and more about the impact on my health. I have a strong family history, on both sides, of heart disease, diabetes, and cancers. Considering the weight I was at, my diet, and sedentary lifestyle I was really tempting fate. Luckily, I have had few complications to this point. I was always taller, and bigger than my peers in childhood, but not overweight. Kids can be cruel though, singling out those who are different. Boy, was I different! I was intelligent, imaginative, didn…

I'm nine days post op and on the smushed diet I've been eating cream Soups, broth, shakes, pudding, and the sorts. I tried some mashed potatoes today and I have tried soft eggs. Anything I eat and not drink starts my espohgus to moving and then my stomach and its like its not going anywhere but the moving is crazy busy. Then I have to pause a while I can't even finish my food and wait. Before long I start burping and then it seems to move just as fast but its not stuck. I am curious does this type of behaviors pass? I previous to operation had a severe issue where unlike the normal person I could feel my food being pushed and rushed through all the rout…

So I have my story to tell. I started thinking about weight loss surgery in 2008. I finally did it February 25,2014. It was a ROUGH ride. If there is a 1% chance of something going wrong, I am the 1%!. So I kept throwing up and nothing would stay down. Not even fluids. Finally after 10 days they hospitalized me. They released me after fluids and sent me home. I went back to throwing up so 3 days later the doctor asked for further testing and an EGD. Apparently the bottom part of my stomach was too narrow and was not digesting. So he went in and widened it a little. The throwing up finally quit and I was able to burp. I am not totally miserable now. Don't get me wrong, it …

Hey everyone! Here's a bit of background on my I had my surgery July 25 ( so 7 weeks tommorow ). I started at 336 and am now 293! Which is amazing!! But my problem is I don't get any enjoyment out of food ! Nothing tastes the same as it used to! I have pretty much been able to eat anything. I also find that all I'm eating is protein to try and get my levels up! Any idea how I could get some veggies in or something!! I guess the best way to explain it is I eat cause I know I have to but not cause I want/enjoy it!! Anyone else have this? Does it go away? TIA

Day 6 PO surgery. I have had a dry throat tickle all this week which makes me have a uncontrolled cough especially during sleep hours. I asked my Dr., about coughing he said "don't " as it could cause leakage . How do you not cough? I'm trying to suppress it but it's very hard. It's not a heavy cough but I'm still afraid I'm causing damage. Does anyone have any ideas or experienced this? Also I found a spot of blood on my bed sheets and one on my tee shirt. I think it's from one of my incisions. Should I be concerned. It's Saturday and we are driving back home today. 2 1/2 hour drive. We live in the mountains so things are a little far way. I'm starting to spin my se…

I went into my two week pre-op weighing 311.4 and lost down to 297.8 by the day of surgery. I was very excited for my new journey, but never expected to feel as bad as I did post-op. Sept 8th 2014 was the day! I felt terrible once awake. Horrible nausea that nothing would get rid of, vomiting, chest pain, and dizziness... I hope you all have a better time with this. My chest hurt so bad they called in the cardiologists to run tests! I ended up with round the clock labs being drawn, anti-nausea meds and pain meds being given like clockwork! Nothing seemed to help the chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, stomach spasms, gas etc! I couldn't urinate, couldn't…

I have to start my liquid diet now, even before I have a surgery date because I gained 3 pounds since April. I think mostly from quitting smoking. I have everything done, just an ultrasound because they found gallstones when they did my upper GI. I am really dreading it, but hopefully I can get through it. I am waiting my doctor is sending my paperwork to get approval from the ins company, BCBS of Mass. Does anyone have experience with being denied because of a weight gain? Even just 3 pounds? Dr. Didn't seem to be too concerned, but I have to go to the nutritionist to start my liquid diet now, even before getting a surgery date, who she said could be November!! Don't t…

I'm 5 months in and down 44lbs. With my port flipping and getting another surgery I feel I'm not doing so good. I go to the gym but I'm still not in my green zone I don't think. With all this crap I've had to go through I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel. I've been stuck at the same weight for awhile. Getting frustrating with all of it! He has had problems finding my port sense day one and it's flipped then more problems finding it. When I had my port flipped he put 4cc in my band and when I had it done under x-Ray after him trying to find it and poking me a half dozen time he put 1cc in so I have 5cc in my band and think I need more. Hopefully he can find it …

I am going in on 9/8 for my gastric bypass! I am about to start the 2nd week of my pre-operative diet which isn't all that bad; the hardest part was pretending life was "normal" during my sons 2nd birthday party this weekend. As we have kept the surgery between myself, my husband, my parents, my brother & my aunt as we have a lot of people who wouldn't understand the choice to get surgery; although I have found everyone loves to support weight loss? My husband sadly find my family is more supportive of him then his own family & although my father doesn't understand the surgery he has wished me well & hopes it works for me. I have been doing a lot of reading …

Ok this was my experience: I had surgery in TJ Mexico (best decision ever for me)! On Friday 9/5/14 I arrived to San Diego and taken to TJ Marriott then later we did a group tour which was great and met post op patients, had surgery 9/6/14 with 2 others that day, it was at a med spa hospital wow very upscale and got VIP treatment even my husband loved the service (they spoiled him)! Had surgery around 9:30am and dont really know what time I got out my husband says about 1.5 hours and woke up with blankets on me in a recoop. area didn't really feel pain or anything just needed to cough (sore throat) a few hours later was put in a private room and asked if I wanted to walk …

Hi everyone, I am 5 days post op and must admit I was thinking I would be back to myself within 3-5 days. I'm frustrated that this is not the case. I've been walking 10-15 min everyday and it tires me out but I keep pushing forward. In fact I choose to come back to work three days after surgery (working at home) and then decided to drive to my second job which is about 25 miles each way last night to teach a class at a local college. Now I'm regretting not taking more time off for myself. I feel extremely tired and achy. Last night I sneezed while I was lying in bed (first since op) and screamed and wanted to cry cause it felt like my stitches would pop open. I want the i…

I am currently waiting to have surgery and started this journey at 273 pounds. I have lost 32 on my own and am currently at 241. I am wondering if people who have lost the weight have lost all over? I know it will be specific for every body type but I am so curious to see what it could be like for me! Anyone out they'd start around 275 and have before/after pictures to share? If not...no worries!

I have really been going back and forth as whether to post here or not. I guess I am sort of a "forum person" in my hobbies and areas of interest, but I have to be honest, I have avoided posting on this site or even looking at it for a couple of reasons. I found this site only a few days before my surgery but when I found it I found more negativity and frightened people then I found inspiration. Actually, I have gone here and gotten the (bleep) scared out of me by a few posters, every time I see their posts I get knots in my stomach. The main poster that does that to me has a screen name that starts with the letter "i". Everybody is terrified of leaks and all the neg…

Hello fellow future gastric patients/post gastric patients. I don't even know where to start.... Ok, so let me Alcoholics Anonymous this - Hi, I'm Shell, and I'm an unhealthy eater. I don't overeat, I don't snack. I actually only eat 1-2x a day and it's usually something I can grab quick and shove in my mouth between taking care of my 17 month old, work, or doctor appts/errands. I also tend to eat after 10pm. Not good, I know. Or should I say, I used to eat those ways.... I've gotten better since I started this. Let me organize this a little better::::::: Well, let's start here: I began my journey toward surgery on August 29th. Met with my surgeon, got my b…

Hi everyeone! I'm new here. I just signed up yestreday. I've found a lot of the posts very helpful. My gastric bypass surgery is in two weeks and I've started my phase II liquid diet in prep for the surgery. The foods that I'm supposed to eat aren't bad, but when you work in an office where someone is constantly bringing in Burger King, McDonald's and pizza it can be tough! I know that I have to stay true and follow the diet, but I'm going a bit mad here! If anything I'll have a better willpower after going through this, right? Thanks for letting me vent a little bit.

Been doing everything right. Today marks 3 weeks since surgery. Down 19 (that's with the 4 lb pre surgery shake diet loss) I just feel like it should come off FASTER. my dr seemed pleased. I've been at the gym 19 days straight. Not having more than 800 cal a day. Why isn't it falling off faster? I KNOW it's going to slow down as I get closer to my goal, which is why I assumed the first 30-40 would be quick! Am I a freak? It doesn't hurt in my stomach when I'm full anymore. Could it not be working? Sincerely, a neurotic Jew.

I thought I would start a thread with a timeline that I can reference back to as I go through this life changing event. Outside of this community, I have chosen to only share this with my wife. I have battled the belly bulge since I was a young kid. I was physically active, but always large. I managed to get to my lowest weight when I was in the Peace Corps (213#) however, since my return, the weight came back up. I yo-yo dieted over the years and neglected my health. I went 5 years without seeing a doctor, mostly because I didn't want to hear, want I already knew..... lose weight! I just turned 35, my wife is pregnant with our second child and is due in November. …

I am supposed to go in at 1pm for surgery but things seem to be running behind today. No nerves yet I assume they'll kick in when I get in the room with my gown on it'll be more real.
