Changing my life. My surgery was an easy decision due to my health; hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol & totally over weight. I started at 219 lbs and managed over a few years of dieting with pills to get to 187lbs. Once I stopped the pills of course I gained a good bit back, like I weighed 207lbs at 5'3. This was not good as I was still piling on the weight constantly eating out. I ddnt have to do the 7-14 diet bcuz my BMI was 36 and my liver wasn't an issue. I did used to smoke but thankfully I quit 2003, yay! Well it's August 26, 2014 and I currently weigh 155lbs. My goal is 145 if which I can't seem to get too. It's easy to fall back into old habits and o…

I had surgery last June. I am down 74 lbs. I was doing very well but an now at a stand still. I have been at a 74-78 lb loss for 3 months now. I know what I need to do but I just can't seem to do it. My goal is to do the pre surgery liquid diet this week to get me back on track. I am hoping some of you will hold me accountable lol. I am happy with my progress but know I can do better .

Hi, I'm having the Gastric sleeve tomorrow and a couple days ago I got a head cold. I called my doc and he said id be fine but I'm still worried. Did anyone have surgery with a cold. I don't have a fever, no sore throat or chest pain and no coughing. But I do feel sick. Just curious if anyone went through with it sick. I have a option to wait, but let's be honest I've done a lot of waiting and I'm ready. Thanks for any help.

I don't want to identify myself YET but let's just say I was on a certain reality show and won money for losing weight on my own. That was 8'years ago. I kept it off for about 5 but then had surgeries and was severely anemic. That coupled with another issue and I gained a bit back. I'm super short so I decided to give myself this gift. I shouldn't HAVE to work out 2 + hours a day to maintain weight loss. I don't even eat poorly. Just too much of the healthy stuff. (Pretty certain my body believes it's a 6'7" NBA player) in any event my surgery is tomorrow and I'm terrified. There's nothing I hate more than throwing up. Tell me I'll be ok. Thanks in advance.

Hello, so today I found out today blue shield is requesting additional paperwork for bar attic surgery. My doctors office re-faxed the info to them today. I was wondering if anyone had exp. With them requesting additional information and how long does it usually take after you re submit? Is it still 5 business or relatively faster? They were missing my doctor notes. Any help would be great as my surgery has already been set for the 23rd of this month and I'm worried I will have to reschedule.

Excited but nervous. Had my funeral meal tonight. One last treat of Louisiana seafood. I'm ready to start this. I'm paying for the surgery and am hoping I don't have to jump through all the hoops the insurance co.requires. What should I expect on this first visit ? I already have current blood work and a car scan of my abdomen. I am starting aquatic physical therapy in the morning for my hip and to get my exercise routine in place. Any other suggestions?

Hi everyone! First off, thank you to all the people who shared their stories on this forum. Your information, personal stories, before/after pictures are what truly gave me the courage to have this surgery. I entered the hospital on Monday Aug 18 weighing in at 398.2 pounds. I felt gross and exhausted. Surgery was scheduled for 11:30am but didn't get started until 1:10pm. By 2pm I was in recovery, whimpering in pain (I'm a bit of a wuss). I had some touch and go blood pressure moments but otherwise all was well. I was released on Wednesday and have been home ever since. As of today, I feel awesome with tons of energy. I have also lost 20 pounds! (In a week!!! unhea…

Have a low BMI. I went for a consult today. The doctor won't do a sleeve. Will only do a lap band. I really want the sleeve. I heard about Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Mexico an read his reviews - all 700 of them. They were incredible reviews. The US doctor says going to Mexico would be suicide and that a doctor who did a sleeve on me would be tantamount to malpractice. What do you think?

They say money can't buy happiness but I've never been happier! I had the gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico with Dr. Ariel Ortiz on August 12, 2013. I've been fortunate that I haven't had any complications. I've lost 80 lbs. I'm not at the goal weight they set for me, 153. I'm actually 162 lbs at 5'8. When I get much below that I hear comments that I'm looking too thin, etc. Im happy with being in a size 8. I just need to tone up! Exercise has not been a strength for me. The past few months I've really had to remind myself that the sleeve is a tool to losing the weight but that I have to work at making healthy choices and making this a lifestyle change. I …

Have a lap band in situ which has NOT been a wild success. I have no desire to dampen people's enthusiasm to be proactive, but where do those who have not been successful go? Or is one just in limbo?

Well here it is the day before my surgery. Planning on getting plenty of exercise today since I normally walk 5-6 miles a day ad I know that will slow for a bit (at least at the pace I have been walking). Have to finish up some housework and finish lacking my bag for the hospital. Not nervous been through a lot of surgeries in the past from having breast cancer. A bit concerned I will never be able to get all the fluids in. I have been on a 10 day pre op liquid diet and only 1 day out of the 10 was I able to get in all my fluids and I can actually take big drinks at this point. That is the part that scares me. I will NEVER be able to do the puréed stage, I wil…

My recovery has been fairly smooth and uneventful (considering the last time I lost weight the nation was watching) but just wondering: I have 1 oz every 20 min (while awake when I can) and no matter how slowly I ingest, I always seem to feel pain (very much like when you have a large gulp of extra fizzy seltzer and you have that gas pain in your belly til you burp) it subsides eventually but is this normal? Will it subside eventually? Just asking bc I'm supposed to transition to purée next week (very small amts) and imagine it will be even more painful. But I NEED to. There is only so much vitamin water whey protein and miso broth a soon to be former fattie can stand!

I've put myself and my health on the back burner for atleast 12 years. Thats the last time i was what i considered thin but i worked really hard to get that way and it only lasted afew years. Life got in the way preventing me for going to the gym. I had more children. Ive pretty much always been the cubby girl. Now im a 32yro mother of 4 +3 wonderful step children. A few years ago i successfully lost 40lb with WW i was feeling great but i had an accident that left me unable to excersise and i put on that 40+40. Immediately following i got pregnant and it was the most difficulty ptegnancy i had ever heard of constantly in the hospital and put on bedrest from the very be…

My surgery is Wednesday august 27... Had my last doctor visit today... Can I get some feedback on the pain pump... I was ok until she told me I can take it out at home . That freaked me out since it goes under the skin and it has to be pulled out. She did say I could come I to the office and have it taken out... How do I know if I am feeling better? I will be still getting pain meds through the pump. Thank you! I am nervous and excited!

Ordered a bra that arrived yesterday. It came in a 10" square box. A BOX!!! I opened it up and saw what appeared to be two giant Soup bowls stacked in one another. I laughed at the size and knew there had to be a mistake. Nope. It fits like a charm. Perky giant breasts today. Gawd, I won't miss this. A "bra in a box" sigh... September 22 can't come soon enough.

Hi all, I am in Melbourne Australia and scheduled to have my lap-band surgery on November 27th. I have been really excited and 100% positive of a successful outcome up until now. Reading some horror stories has allowed a hint of doubt to creep in.. I am trying to assess each story separately, and find a common thread for those that haven't worked so I know what to avoid.. I would be grateful for any suggestions and help along the way. I think I am doing everything I can to help myself by being well informed, accepting help and advice and being realistic about what to expect of myself and the band. Anyway, I have had appointments with a physician, a psychologist and wi…

Hey everyone my name is lizzy I am new to this forum and I am glad I was able to find it. I had the gastric sleeve May 29 of this year. It has been one of the best decisions of my life, being 21 years of age and having acquired type 2 diabetes 3 years prior really opened my eyes that something needed to be done. I am now 54 pounds down and incredibly proud of myself. However, since surgery I do not feel like the same person I was before. I am incredibly emotional and have noticed my anxiety has been getting worse. I feel depressed half the time. I have dealt with depression before but this time it feels a lot different. It has been almost 3 months out and I thought I woul…

I had my sleeve 7 months ago and have lost 106 lbs to date. I have felt run down of late suffering from a mouth ulcer and irritating cough also a Water infection and a rash that looks like a mild dose of shingles. My hair is also very thin. I suffer from Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (an autoimmune disease of the liver, sleep apnoea and fatty liver disease. I take Ursodeoxycholic Acid 600mg and Provigil 400mg for the PBC. I am on a Multivitamin plus Iron once a day. I only manage to eat about 10grams of protien a day. What additional supplements should I take to feel better and get back on track?

Am scheduled for my last visit with my surgeon on Tuesday August 26th. I then only have to wait for insurance approval and schedule a date. I'm 5'3", and weighed 240 at my first visit. I have lost a few, gained a few throughout the 6 month process, so overall I'm only a few pounds from my starting weight. I'm very disappointed in myself for not being able to lose more before. I was talking with a good friend of mine about it, and she said "if you could do it alone, you would. You wouldn't need the surgery." She has a point I guess. I have to stop beating myself up about it. I think in my mind I'm afraid of the things I won't be able to eat after, so I've kind of …

I love my sleeve! I have lost 19 pounds since my surgery July 31st. It is still hard to get all my liquids in. I have started my soft puréed foods and I eat 2-3 teaspoons and I am full, so weird! Trying to find a balance but it's hard to eat then drink all day. I have yet to exercise but plan to go for a walk in the AM. I have energy that I have not had in many years. My body no longer aches when I get up or down, it's fantastic!

Rny 11 months ago. Down 94 pounds and feel great. Have not had any issues with anything. No dumping and have tolerated everything I have ate so far as long as it's not too dry. Going to the gym 3 days a week for 30 minutes of cardio and 45 mins of weights. Best shape of my life!! Absolutely no regrets.

Hello, My name is Yvette Garza and I was sleeved on July 28th. It was a very difficult 24 hours after waking up because I threw up for a whole day. I wouldn't even press for the medication to help because every time I did I would get a massive headache and throw up. Finally, an awesome nurse gave me some Tylenol and other meds in combination with seemed to help. I have to say, just 2 days later I was craving so many different foods..especially what used to be my weakness, sweets! I had a hard time dealing with this new life change and had an emotional breakdown and told my husband that I had no idea how important food was to me or how addicted I was to it. I had been an e…

Hello All! I have been through all the hoops, am approved and have had surgery on the books and cancelled a few times. My hubby and I want another child. Mine is 3 and I don't want the gap to get too far apart but at the same time I want to have surgery too. If I don't have surgery before the end of the year, I have to restart the entire 6 month process all over again. I am just besides myself with decision and don't know what to do. I am totally torn - have surgery first, wait at least a year and then try for baby or have baby first and then hope after I have the baby I can lose weight and or restart the entire process again. Any opinions, insight or suggestions for me?
