Hi guys, this is my first thread. I was banded back in February and have had a number of personal issues, which have caused my band to be extremely tight thanks to stress. I've only lost a stone and half so far which to be honest is good I feel a little bit of a failure. My band is a 10ml. So I'm hoping weight loss should start coming off. Can anyone offer me advice with this as the internet just provides generic answers and I'm grateful to all fellow genuine banded people. Thank you xx

Hello everyone! I had gastric bypass on April 2nd, 2014. I was self pay so the whole process took just about a month from initial visit to going under the knife. During that time I read a lot on the process and tried to mentally prepare myself for the monumental event I was about to undertake. No amount of preparation could have got me ready for this journey I have begun. It has been the most difficult thing I've ever done and there are days when my head screams for the days when I could rely on my old addictions. But I look at the pain I felt everyday before my surgery and know the new hardships are worth it and that I have to be successful if I want to live healthy and …

Hi all! I am new here so let me introduce myself a little. My name is Roxanne, I am currently 30 years old. I live in Utrecht, The Netherlands with my boyfriend Huib and our 3 cats. I have a bachelor in communications, but am still searching for a job. So at the moment I spent my time working out, doing some volunteer work and reading books. it would be nice to meet others who are going on the same journey. My whole adult life I have been overweight. It was always hard to lose weight and when I was feeling bad and didn't really care I would gain again... Until I was nearly 340 lbs, then I was done. I called my health insurance and asked them which steps I had to t…

I had my RNY surgery on May 4th, 2004 to be exact. Like everyone on this site, my weight had been an issue for many, many years and this surgery seemed to be the only option I had left. In fact, a close friend of mine had the surgery before me and it was due to her positive experiences that I began looking into it. Ironically, at the time time I began investigating this surgery, my mother was a nurse working in bariatrics, working for the doctor I would later have the surgery from. I will be the first to tell you, that choosing surgery is a very personal choice. I do not think it is for everyone and feel one should look at all options before choosing surgery. I have n…

I am 28 y/o & from Peoria, IL. I'm married with 3 beautiful daughters and am a RN in the NICU in my area. My surgeon was Dr. Stephen Marshall. I had my surgery on Wednesday and came home today. I am moving well just sore and tired. Hoping to get guidance along the way and get ideas from others on staying on track and staying positive on hard days! I don't like depending on my husband for nearly everything right now so I am looking forward to recovering and getting into a routine!

Had my surgery on 7/21 at Amerimed Hospital in Puerto Vallarta by doctor Armando Joya. I'm 35 and have been curvy/plump my whole life. The last five years have seen me go from plump to outright fat. I'm 4'11 and XL sizes were getting snug. My mom had been hinting at me that I needed help. I knew I had to do something I realized when my neck and chin were so fat I had neck sweat and it was physically bothering me. Yet my BMI was only 35, not enough to be covered by insurance. So I went the self pay route. I conversed via email with Dr. Joya and the nutritionist and along with the questionnaire we decided on the sleeve. I had lost about 10lbs on preop diet when I wen…

I read on here about the Bariatric Choice website where you can order tons of stuff that is high in Protein. I ordered Vegetarian Joe (like sloppy joe), Spicy cheese and Pasta, chicken and Vegetable Cream Soup, and a variety sample package. I love the Vegetarian Joe, but haven't tried anything else yet. It came in 2 days and was reasonably priced. I just wanted to let anyone interested know that they sent me to a link where I can refer people and they (and me) can get $20.00 off their first purchase. If you're interested, send me your email address and I'll send you the referral link. Less than 2 weeks until my surgery! Can't wait!

I am now under care by my general doctor for low blood sugar. I've been having symptoms for months and we finally came to the conclusion that I have low blood sugar levels and have to be watched for the next couple of weeks with recording everything I eat and take my blood sugar levels 4 times a day or when I feel symptoms. I have now carry hard candy for if I'm out and about I have something with me to bring the blood levels back up quickly. This is unnerving to say the least and if you are having the same problem what are you doing about it? I hope this is going to be manageable and not get worse. This is crazy because I had type 2 diabetes and that's one of the re…

As a 20 year old trying to figure myself out, I have to say gastric bypass was the best decision I ever made for MYSELF. For the first time I decided to help me, & boy has this decision turned my life in a completely different direction. I am stronger as an individual because of the hardships I endured after this surgery. I have gotten to know myself in so many ways now that I cannot hide behind mountains of food. Doing this took such courage, & having no support was the hardest part. To this day I still get criticized but guess what? I DONT CARE! & I've never actually meant it when I say that, but this time I do. The confidence I have can't be shut down. I fe…

So I have been thinking about this for a while now. Prior to accepting the fact that I need bariatric surgery, I was of the mindset that surgery was the "easy way out". Yes, a 140 pounds overweight person thought this - a traitor in your midst!! JK. As I started this process, during orientation I had thoughts like "I can lose weight, I've done it before and I can do it again, so why am I here" and "I don't have any serious co-morbities so why am I here?" Then, after more thought I came to the conclusion that I have been overweight for most of my life, so if I could have/would have done it, I wouldn't be even contemplating such things. If I stay the way I am I WILL d…

What a roller coaster of emotions this whole journey has been. All my records were given to insurance on July 3. Denied on July 15 for gaining on my 6 month of dr visits. My surgeon Dr Todd Eibes of Iowa Speciality Hospital did a peer to peer with my insurance Aetna today and he got it changed to ACCEPTED. start my pro op diet tomorrow and surgery on Aug 4th. Wow is all I have to say. Prayers answered!,

...I'm starting to get a little nervous. I took a lot of time and weighed all my options before finally deciding to undergo the sleeve. I know this is the right choice for me. I'm not worried about the surgery. This is more about how I will deal with how quickly I will (or won't) lose the weight, how obsessed I have always been with the scale (I weigh myself no fewer than three times a day), and whether I'll be satisfied with my progress. I have every reason to believe this is the very best thing for me. And I'm excited. I just hope I don't let my head interfere. I've been quietly reading the forums for several months now. Seems like a supportive group of people, I loo…

My exercise has been lacking but today I got myself to our hiking biking trails. I walked 55 minutes which is about 3 mines. It was 96 degrees out and hot but I did it!!!! My lap band was put in May 15th and I have not consistently been exercising. Today was different. I knew I would feel good about myself for the rest of the day so I got to the trail and walked at a good brisk pace. I am so proud of myself. This morning my weight was up 3 pounds and I was not going to let that bring me down. Walking was the perfect thing to do to keep myself from feeling like I was starting to fail. I am so proud of myself. Just had to share!!

I have went through everything he has requested me to do.. He had me visit psych, I did that for a month and a half and the psych doctor approved me for surgery. He had me meet with several people over the last year to get things ready for surgery. I even have been doing calls with health partners for coaching..... His concern is that surgery will mess with my mental health..... I feel like in all reality it will help my mental health. I feel so discouraged that I did everything I was asked to do just to be rejected my my own surgeon. I have a seminar to go to at a different hospital in the cities area on Tuesday at 6pm..... Wish me luck!!

I had my last pre-op visit with my surgeon on July 15th and I was informed that everything would be submitted to my insurance company that day. However,I have been calling my insurance company and as of this morning they don't have anything submitted nor pending from my surgeon office. This afternoon the surgeon's office called me and said they were getting ready to submit to the insurance but their were some red flags that may possibly (strong chance) result in me being denied because my A1C is 13.7 and that's pretty high...so I will have to bring it down before they will approve me. I'm praying that I don't have to start this process over again. I feel so discouraged????…

I haven't been on a bike in probably 12 years. She's never seen me ride a bike. We just rode around on our street and went around the circle. Not a long ride because I need to get the seat raised, it's set for a shorter person. I might go on a trail with my step son sometime this week. I was so excited to not have to worry about being off balance, blowing a tire or looking like the Michelin man on a tiny bike.

Today I had a few tiny bites of chicken and got that pukie feeling again. This time I took slow deep breaths and the feeling left. Is anyone else feeling this way? Am I always going to feel like this?

Hi, my name is Sheri. i originally joined BariatricPal in 2007 before Lap Band surgery in Mexico (Nov. 2007, Dr. Acevez) but I didn't really get involved with the forum here, opting instead for a yahoo forum. I did lose quite a bit of weight with the band but I got way too tight and my fill nurses quit their services during that time and my husband lost his job, making a visit to a band doctor at $350 per fill impossible. So, I proceeded to eat around my band for the next 3 years and managed to stretch my pouch but good. I am now looking into revision surgery (Steven Hunter, Virginia Mason, Federal Way, WA) and I am trying to get my head in the game this time. I did learn…

So I went for a fill today and she only gave me .2 cc, so I am currently at 5.1 cc. I was really hoping to get at least .5 cc, but she refused. Said that she is afraid to over fill me. She wants me to cut out carbs completely and increase protein intake. I'm just so frustrated. I managed to go down to 153 from 288. Now I am back at 218. I want to lose the weight I gained because being sick and being given steroids in high dosage twice.

So I am 3 days out from my sleeve and have a few questions: Did anyone else have spasms after drinking liquids, especially cold liquids? The protein shakes that I loved before surgery are now repulsive. I tried yogurt this morning and did okay with it, what did everyone's immediate post op diet consist of? No one has told me how much I should be 'eating' at one time, does anyone know? How much weight did you lose your first few weeks post op? How long were you sore from your larger incision? I had 5 incisions, one of them larger which is the most tender.

So tomorrow marks one week since my surgery. I had the gastric sleeve done on last Thursday, July 24. I also had to have my gallbladder removed. The recovery has been horrible. I was released from the hospital on Saturday and three hours later had to go right back because of the pain. I wasn't expecting this to Be but in no way did I feel it would be this difficult. A coworker of mine had her sleeve done on July 11 and was back to work 10 days later. My doctor says that the reason I can't drink anything normally (post gastric sleeve normal )is because my sleeve is tight and there is a lot of swelling. I know I'm not hungry but my brain is telling me I want food! In the fa…

I hadn't told her because I only wanted those close to me to know. She can have trouble keeping secrets and I didn't want to burden her with that. And if she let it slip I knew she would feel guilty. Almost everyone in my family knows now, and my ex and his girlfriend know because they hacked my email. Long story there but I don't have to worry about them finding out now. So I told her, she was a little upset because she thought that I had a bad stomach disease even though I never said that. I'm just glad it's out in the open now and that she can ask me questions and I can tell her why I don't eat certain things. I feel relieved.

I am so excited and overcome with joy. This has been a journey of ups and downs. It is the absolute craziest ride I've EVER been on. It is becoming more and more worth the "bad" parts everyday.
